  • Gradually winding up evacuation exercise after ceasefire: Indian Embassy in Iran

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

The Indian Embassy in Iran on Tuesday evening announced that it is gradually winding down the evacuation exercise initiated during the recent military conflict in the region, following the announcement of a ceasefire.

“The Embassy has closed the contact desk that was opened to register new names for evacuation. At the same time, the Government of India is keeping a close watch on the evolving situation and will reassess its strategy in case there is a renewed threat to the security of Indian nationals in Iran,” the Embassy posted on X.

It advised Indians in other parts of Iran who were planning to travel to Mashhad for evacuation to remain where they are and continue monitoring the news, along with any updated advisories issued by the Embassy.

“Those Indians who have already travelled to Mashhad in the last few days and are staying in one of the hotels arranged by the Embassy are requested to shift to Sadr Hotel today itself, as the Embassy will be releasing rooms in the other hotels. The Embassy will retain rooms at Sadr Hotel for two more nights (until checkout time on June 26). This will also allow citizens time to assure themselves that the security situation in Iran is indeed returning to normal,” the statement added.

The Embassy also noted that Indian citizens needing advice, assistance, or having any special requirements may continue to reach out via the official Telegram channel or the helplines provided earlier. These communication channels will remain active for the next few days.

Giving top priority to the safety and security of Indian nationals abroad, the Government of India had launched Operation Sindhu to evacuate its citizens from Iran as tensions escalated due to the conflict between Iran and Israel.

As part of the operation, the Indian Embassy evacuated 110 Indian students from northern Iran, assisting them in safely crossing into Armenia on June 17. The students travelled by road to the Armenian capital, Yerevan, under the supervision of Indian missions in Iran and Armenia, before boarding a special flight to New Delhi.

On Tuesday, Indian nationals evacuated from Iran on a special flight arrived in New Delhi from Mashhad.

Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita received 281 Indians, along with three Sri Lankans and two Nepalese nationals evacuated from Iran. They arrived in New Delhi on a special flight from Mashhad, raising the total number of evacuees brought home from Iran under Operation Sindhu to 2,576.

India also launched the Israel leg of Operation Sindhu on June 23, repatriating several groups of Indian nationals from Israel. So far, 594 Indians have returned from Israel as part of the mission.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Alaskan Individual Charged with Possessing Firearms and Ammunition as a Fugitive From Justice

    Source: US FBI

Baltimore, Maryland  – Today, a federal grand jury returned an indictment, charging Jack Amadeus LaSota, 34, of Fairbanks, Alaska — aka Andrea Phelps; Ann Grimes; Anne Grimes; Canaris; Julia LaSota; Ziz — with being a fugitive from justice in possession of firearms and ammunition.

Kelly O. Hayes, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, announced the indictment with Acting Special Agent in Charge Amanda M. Koldjeski, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) – Baltimore Field Office.

According to the indictment, LaSota possessed several firearms, including a GM6 Lynx .50 caliber rifle, a black HS Produkt, model Hellcat, 9x19mm handgun, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. At the time, LaSota was knowingly a fugitive from justice and therefore was not permitted by law to possess a firearm or ammunition.

If convicted, LaSota faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties. A federal district court judge determines sentencing after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

An indictment is merely an allegation.  All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

U.S. Attorney Hayes commended the FBI, the Allegany County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office for their work in the investigation. Ms. Hayes also thanked Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared M. Beim who is prosecuting the federal case.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: China Acts as a “Peace Broker” in the Ukrainian Crisis – Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: People’s Republic of China in Russian – People’s Republic of China in Russian –

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

Moscow, June 24 (Xinhua) — China is acting as a “peace broker” in the Ukrainian crisis and is making efforts to facilitate peace talks, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui said in a written interview with the Russian newspaper Izvestia on Monday.

“Since the comprehensive escalation of the Ukrainian crisis, China has been acting as a ‘peace broker’ and has been making consistent efforts to end the fighting and facilitate peace talks,” he said.

The Chinese ambassador stressed that China’s position on the Ukrainian issue is consistent and clear: the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be respected, the purposes and principles of the UN Charter must be observed, reasonable security concerns of all countries must be taken seriously, and all efforts for a peaceful settlement deserve support. “This is the authoritative position and fundamental principle of the Chinese side on the Ukrainian issue,” the ambassador explained, adding that China welcomes and supports all efforts aimed at achieving peace, and will continue to take an objective and fair position, promote consensus building and create conditions for resolving the crisis.

According to Zhang Hanhui, Li Hui, the special representative of the PRC government for Eurasian affairs, has already conducted four rounds of “shuttle diplomacy,” covering four continents – Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America. He visited both the parties to the conflict – Russia and Ukraine – and key European countries, including France and Germany. In addition, deep exchanges of views were held with countries of the Global South, such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Indonesia and South Africa. “These efforts have received wide approval and high praise from the international community, including Russia,” the diplomat noted.

In addition, in 2024, China and Brazil jointly established the Friends of Peace platform through the UN to seek ways to peacefully resolve the Ukrainian crisis, and several meetings have already been held. According to the ambassador, this group has become an important mechanism through which the countries of the Global South express their position on the Ukrainian issue and which reflects the common desire of the international community for a ceasefire and peace. “In its work, the group invariably adheres to an impartial, objective and open position, and is always ready to listen to the views and positions of all parties to the conflict, including Russia. The group adheres to the principle of consensus and focuses on promoting all actions that contribute to a political settlement and the restoration of peace,” the ambassador added.

At the same time, Zhang Hanhui confirmed that China did not participate in the discussions on sending peacekeeping forces to the conflict zone. “The Chinese side believes that three basic principles must be observed when sending peacekeeping forces: consent of the parties to the conflict, impartiality, and non-use of force except in self-defense. At present, there are serious disagreements between the parties concerned on the issue of post-war peacekeeping, there is no sign of an end to hostilities, and the number of casualties continues to rise,” the diplomat noted, adding that China calls on all parties to continue efforts to reduce tensions, create favorable conditions for dialogue, and open a “window” of opportunity for peace.

The Chinese ambassador acknowledged that the causes of the Ukrainian crisis are complex. He recalled the Chinese proverb that “a meter-thick layer of ice does not form in a day,” so “melting” it also takes time. “The end point of any conflict is the negotiating table. The Chinese side welcomes the holding of direct talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul and hopes that all parties can reach a fair, sustainable, binding and mutually acceptable peace agreement through dialogue and negotiations,” he said.

Zhang Hanhui pointed out that following the direct talks in Istanbul, Russia and Ukraine reached agreements on issues such as prisoner exchange, which created favorable conditions for establishing peace and was an important step forward. As the Chinese ambassador emphasized, China calls on the parties to the conflict to demonstrate a desire for negotiations, and also hopes that the parties concerned can provide favorable external conditions for the negotiation process, jointly support the trend towards peaceful negotiations, and ultimately come to a political settlement.

According to the diplomat, China hopes that peace and stability will be restored on the European continent as soon as possible, and is ready to continue to make constructive contributions to this. “Regardless of how the situation develops, China will always stand on the side of peace, on the side of dialogue, and on the right side of history. We will continue to make efforts to resolve the crisis and end the fighting, maintain contact with all parties, and contribute Chinese wisdom and strength to promoting a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis,” Zhang Hanhui assured. –0–

  • MIL-OSI USA: Long-term Satellite Data Reveal How Climate Shapes West Coast Shorelines

    Source: US Geological Survey

The research, led by the Université de Toulouse and partners, highlights how coastal erosion and shoreline movement vary significantly with time and with latitude. By analyzing waterline positions—where land meets ocean—between 1997 and 2022, scientists found that in the Pacific Northwest, seasonal waterline movements often exceed 25 meters, while shifts in Southern California and farther south rarely top 10 meters.

The driving forces behind these changes also vary by region. Wave power is the dominant force in the northern parts of the coast, while farther south, sea-level fluctuations and southern hemisphere swell become important. This reflects a transition in how wave climate affects coastal processes from north to south.

“This paper is the synthesis of [lead author Marcan Graffin’s] many separate efforts, from developing satellite shoreline-detection algorithms, to generating large-scale data sets, and then analyzing them alongside climate data. We’ve learned a great deal about the nuances of shoreline variability on the U.S. West Coast from Marcan’s work,” said USGS Research Oceanographer Dr. Sean Vitousek, a co-author of the study.

In addition, the study examines the outsized influence of the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO), the recurring climate pattern that swings between warm (El Niño) and cool (La Niña) phases in the Pacific Ocean, on shoreline positions. During El Niño years, intense storm tracks shift southward, boosting wave energy and accelerating erosion from Southern California to Baja California Sur. La Niña events, on the other hand, are associated with smaller winter waves and mild shoreline accretion across the subregion.

However, farther north—from Northern California through the Pacific Northwest—the impacts of ENSO are less predictable. There, shoreline response depends on a complex blend of storm path changes, wave-energy intensity, and local geography.

These patterns help explain why some coastlines erode dramatically during strong El Niño winters while others seem to hold steady, demonstrating how regional climate signals interact with local coastal dynamics.

The study is one of the first to examine shoreline changes along such a large, diverse stretch of coast using a consistent satellite-derived dataset. The 25-year archive of shoreline imagery allowed researchers to tease out both seasonal and interannual trends—critical for anticipating how coastlines will respond to future climate extremes.

  • MIL-OSI USA: International Convention Gavels

    Source: US GOIAM Union

This article was featured in the Summer 2025 IAM Journal and was written by IAM Communications Representative Bill Harkum.

The gavels used at the 2024 International Convention in New York City symbolize the diverse crafts and skills of our membership. Four unique gavels were produced by four proud lodges within the Eastern Territory.

The IAM Ritual used at union meetings tells us that by tradition, two raps of the gavel are a call to order for the gathered members. Three raps of the gavel require the members to stand and be silent. One rap of the gavel means members take their seats and maintain order.

THREE RAPS OF THE FIRST GAVEL

One gavel was made by Local S6 members in Maine, home to Bath Tron Works and members who build ships for the U.S. Navy. Derek Bozeman of IAM Local S6 collaborated with Jeremy Tripp, a member of Bath Maine Draftsmen Association Local 3999, collaborated to produce a gavel out scrap ship material and stainless steel. The result is an impressively balanced and weigh ted gavel that looks like materials representing the yard of this ship building facility.

Tripp said “we were able to incorporate a lot of the identity of the yard, the shipyard, into it.”

The shine of the stainless steel against an inlaid TAM brass coin and a brass outline of a Navy ship as a crown piece above the hammerhead shows the skill and creativity to turn a simple tool into a showpiece.

“The pride, execution and talent that went into this gavel speaks for itself when you see it,” said IAM District 4 Business Representative Chris Wiers.

THREE RAPS OF THE NEXT GAVEL

The next gavel is from Local 175 in York, a home of Harley-Davidson motorcycles manufacturing. Using scrap steel, three members of the lodge fashioned a Harley handlebar and throttle into a gavel, and a Harley gas tank into a strike plate.

“The theme was, ‘We make the eagle fly,”‘ said Sam Santiago, one of the Local 175 craftsmen to do the intricate work by hand.

William Anthony IV is the member who artistically trimmed, bent, and hand painted the steel to look like bird feathers. Scott Karaschak produced the handle bar and motorcycle throttle body used in the gavel itself.

“I am in total awe of what our members did at local 175, from the beginning to the finished product,” said TAM District 98 Assistant Directing Business Representative Kermit Forbes Jr.

THREE RAPS OF THE NEXT GAVEL

The next gavel is made by a member of Local 1943 at Cleveland-Cliffs in Middletown, Ohio. This factory is the largest producer of flat-rolled steel in North America, much of which is used in automobile production.

Michael Wilhelm is a maintenance technician, responsible for attending to and fixing the machinery within this steel mill, for over a decade. He’s known for always staying busy, and finding projects to work on, regardless of the rest cycles in the plan. Wilhelm made all the parts and components of this gavel by band.

The gavel is made from flat stainless steel and some brass. It features a rotating center coil, driven by a step down motor that Wilhelm had to specially tweak to appear to be levitating inside the hammer head. It has a micro furnace with burner boxes at the corners, and a blower motor to move the air from the furnace.

“Mike is a real go-getter. No idle time, always working,” said Local 1943 President and Directing  Business  Representative Shawn Coffey. “I knew it would be a success and he would knock it out of the park.”

THREE RAPS OF THE NEXT GAVEL

The final gavel was made by IAM Local 4 member John Wible at the Winpisinger Center in Hollywood, Md. It is the only gavel for this convention made from wood, and the craftsmanship is just as intricate as its steel siblings used at the International Convention.

Wible is a full time maintenance technician at the Winpisinger Center. When not at work he is a life member and volunteer firefighter at this local fire department. “We are so proud of every gavel that’s being made. It showcases the talent our members have, the creativity that our members have,” said IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President David Sullivan. ‘The gavel is very, very important to our process, and anybody who has the honor to swing that gavel, needs to respect that gavel, and respect our members, and always do what’s right for our members.”

All four gavels are now on dis play at IAM Headquarters.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Haverhill Man Sentenced to More Than Three Years in Prison for Cocaine and Firearms Trafficking

Source: United States Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF)

BOSTON – A Haverhill man was sentenced yesterday in federal court in Boston for trafficking cocaine and illegal firearms in and around the Boston area.

Cordell Miller, 29, was sentenced by U.S. Senior District Court Judge William G. Young to 42 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. In February 2025, Miller pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of and possession with intent to distribute cocaine, aiding and abetting and one count of trafficking in firearms and conspiracy to do so. Miller was arrested and charged in November 2023 along with co-conspirators Malcolm Desir and Alan Robinson.

Miller was identified as a firearms and ammunition trafficker in the metro Boston area. In August 2023, Miller arranged for the sale of distribution weight cocaine and several firearms to a cooperating witness. Prior to his arrest in November 2023, Miller and Robinson facilitated the sale of four separate firearms: an AR-15 “ghost gun” rifle; a Polymer 80 “ghost gun” pistol; a HIPOINT 9mm rifle; and a Ruger .38 caliber pistol.

In April 2025, Robinson was sentenced to 10 years in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release. Desir was sentenced on June 18, 2025 to seven years in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release, with the first year to be served in home detention.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Reps. Cherfilus-McCormick and Wasserman Schultz Lead Florida Democrats in Urging NOAA Restoration Ahead of Hurricane Season

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Florida 20th district))

Washington, D.C. ─ Today, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (FL-20) and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-25) led the Florida Democratic delegation in urging Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to reverse recent staffing cuts at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Weather Service (NWS) as Florida enters hurricane season.

Due to the Trump-era DOGE initiative, NOAA has laid off approximately 20% of its workforce—including 9% of the NWS staff. These sweeping reductions come at a dangerous time, undermining the ability of meteorologists to monitor and respond to severe weather. The cuts have resulted in delayed weather balloon launches, critical staffing shortages at Gulf Coast NWS offices, and the elimination of overnight shifts—jeopardizing the timely delivery of life-saving storm tracking data.

“These sudden firings at NOAA and NWS directly endanger the health and safety of my constituents and all Floridians,” said Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick (FL-20). “Florida is one of the most hurricane-prone states in the nation. Our families, emergency responders, and local governments rely on NOAA and NWS for accurate, real-time information. Slashing these agencies just as storm season begins is both reckless and dangerous. I’m proud to stand with my Florida colleagues in demanding these job cuts be reversed immediately.”

“The Trump Administration’s cruel, short-sighted decision to push out NOAA’s critical weather forecasters, data scientists, and storm modelers – just weeks before hurricane season – shows a callous disregard for the safety of all Floridians,” said Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-25). “These are the very experts whose work guides local officials, emergency managers, and families on when to evacuate, when to seek shelter, and how to protect their homes and businesses. Cutting them loose is not just short-sighted, it’s dangerous.”

“The beginning of Hurricane season always stirs a rush into the hearts of South Floridians, especially many of the coastal communities I represent,” said Congresswoman Fredrica Wilson (FL-24). “The firings at the National Weather Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are nothing short of outrageous and reckless—especially for South Florida, which sits on the frontlines of hurricane season year after year. When a storm is brewing, families across our region turn to these centers and services for real-time updates, life-saving alerts, and clear guidance on how to stay safe. Who does this administration expect residents to turn to in these moments of crisis if we allow the very institutions that safeguard us to be gutted? These firings only weaken our emergency response, undermine public safety, and leave Florida more vulnerable at the exact moment we should be strengthening our defenses.”

“We are deeply alarmed by the recent workforce cuts at NOAA and the National Weather Service under the DOGE initiative,” said Congressman Darren Soto (FL-09). “These reductions pose an unacceptable risk to hurricane preparedness and emergency response efforts in Florida. With our state facing increasingly severe and frequent storms, we cannot afford to weaken our frontline defense. All cuts to NOAA and NWS must be immediately reversed, and hiring freezes lifted to ensure Florida communities remain protected and informed.”

“When I was Director of Emergency Management in Florida, I saw firsthand the critical role that NOAA and the National Weather Service play preparing for hurricanes and other disasters,” said Congressman Jared Moskowitz (FL-23). “Putting these agencies at risk puts public safety at risk. That’s why I introduced bipartisan legislation to fill critical vacancies at NOAA and the NWS, and it’s why I’m proud to join my Florida colleagues pushing to lift hiring freezes and restore all cuts at the agencies. With hurricane season already here, Florida can’t afford for NOAA and the National Weather Service to be anything but fully equipped with what they need.”

“Hurricane season already is dangerous and anxiety-inducing enough without Elon Musk’s DOGE cuts undermining the resources and specialists we rely on to keep Floridians safe,” said Rep. Kathy Castor (FL-14). “Gutting NOAA and NWS, cutting forecasters and grounding hurricane hunters leaves our communities vulnerable and uninformed while storms grow more frequent, more severe and more costly. Sec. Lutnick rightfully acknowledged the Trump Administration’s grave error in haphazardly firing essential NOAA and NWS workers. However, much more must be done to lower the risks and costs of the climate crisis and the extreme events tied to it. Firing essential problem-solvers and public servants ends up costing Floridians more.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congresswoman Torres Leads Amendments to protect Americans’ Privacy, Ensure Safe Baby Formula, and Address the Threat of Bird Flu

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Norma Torres (35th District of California)

    June 24, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Congresswoman Norma Torres led three amendments during the Appropriations Committee Markup of the FY2026 Agriculture, Rural Development, FDA, and Related Agencies Bill, offering critical amendments to safeguard tens of millions of Americans’ personal information from DOGE and protect the public servants who work to ensure the safety and supply of infant formula and address the ongoing threat of bird flu from the indiscriminate and lawless firings implemented by the Trump Administration and DOGE.

“I voted against this bill, which, like so much of what the Trump Administration and Republicans have been pushing, throws families and children under the bus, and in this case, our farmers and agricultural communities, too. The bill recklessly cuts vital programs that support our farmers and help hardworking families put food on the table, all under the hypocritical reasoning of “responsible spending” as Republicans push for trillions in tax breaks to billionaires,” said Congresswoman Torres. “But Republicans also rejected three amendments I led that aimed to improve the bill, from protecting Americans’ privacy from DOGE, protecting those who work tirelessly to ensure infant formula that many mothers rely on is safe, and ensuring the Trump Administration and DOGE can’t recklessly fire these critical public servants.”

The House Republican FY26 Agriculture-FDA Appropriations bill cuts overall funding by more than $1 billion, underfunding programs that support farmers and ranchers, lower costs for consumers, and help families put food on the table.

For example, the Republican bill underfunds the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), which helps pregnant mothers and babies not only access free healthy foods, but also receive breastfeeding support, nutrition education, and connects mothers with resources like medical, dental, and mental healthcare. On top of this, the bill included an additional 10% cut on WIC benefits for fruits and vegetables, making it harder for women and children to have access to healthy, nutritious foods. The bill also cuts rural wastewater funding, even though many communities in California struggle with water issues.

Congresswoman Torres led three amendments to help improve the bill that Republicans rejected:

No Sharing Personal Information with DOGE: This amendment prohibits agencies from sharing personally identifiable information with DOGE. It protects the privacy of tens of millions of Americans by preventing USDA, FDA, and other covered agencies from providing sensitive data to DOGE, safeguarding families’ personal information from unnecessary exposure.

No Infant Formula Employee Firings: This amendment prohibits the firing of employees who work to ensure the safety and supply of infant formula. Congresswoman Torres is committed to protecting the dedicated public servants at the FDA who work tirelessly to maintain a safe, reliable supply of infant formula for families and babies nationwide.

No Bird Flu Employee Firings: This amendment protects employees working on bird flu (also known as highly pathogenic avian influenza or HPAI) issues by prohibiting their dismissal. Bird flu continues to threaten poultry, livestock, and frontline workers, and these employees play a crucial role in addressing this ongoing threat. As of June 20, 38 of the 70 human cases in America have occurred in California.

“These amendments reflect my commitment to protecting families’ privacy, ensuring the safety of mothers and babies, and defending our communities against bird flu. We must prioritize funding for programs that prevent families from going hungry, safeguard our food supply, and invest in our communities — not fund tax breaks for billionaires.”

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. House Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) released the following statement:

“Once again, President Trump is launching a dangerous attack on our public lands. This disastrous decision puts millions of acres of forests on the chopping block to serve his billionaire cronies in the mining and logging industries. By rolling back the popular “Roadless Rule,” the Trump administration is putting corporate profits over the long-term health of our national forests and the communities that depend on them.

“This reckless move opens the floodgates for clear-cut logging, road-building, and mining in some of our last untouched forests — threatening clean drinking water for millions, accelerating the climate crisis by destroying vital carbon sinks, and trampling on the rights of Tribes and local communities. Our national forests are not mere woodlots; they are invaluable natural treasures that safeguard clean water, preserve critical wildlife habitat, and provide essential spaces for recreation and solace.

“Americans and future generations deserve healthy forests, clean water, and a livable climate — not the wreckage left behind by Trump’s reckless giveaways. We will not let this stand.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Three years after the end of Roe, Governor Newsom, First Partner sound the alarm on Trump’s “Big, Beautiful” plan to defund Planned Parenthood

Source: US State of California Governor

    Jun 24, 2025

What you need to know: Three years after Roe v. Wade was overturned, Governor Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom warn that Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” would defund Planned Parenthood and strip millions of Americans — especially low-income women — of access to basic reproductive care.

SACRAMENTO – Three years ago today, the extreme conservative supermajority on the U.S. Supreme Court ended the constitutional right to abortion care in this country by overturning Roe v. Wade. Following the decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, conservative states across the U.S. passed crushing abortion bans and Republican leaders began working to eliminate access to other reproductive rights, including contraceptives, Mifepristone, and even IVF. Governor Newsom also warned that President Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” would effectively defund Planned Parenthood.

“Conservative majorities – from the United States Congress to red states across the country – continue their attacks on reproductive freedom, empowered by the President and Secretary of HHS. Now, they’re trying once again to defund Planned Parenthood and make it even harder for low-income people to get basic health care. In California, we will always fight to protect access to care so those who wish to control their own futures can do that here.”

    Governor Gavin Newsom

“Women are being attacked on so many fronts by this Administration, from reproductive freedom and access to care, to cuts to the public institutions that support families—like our parks, libraries, and schools. Without reproductive freedom, a woman’s autonomy—and her family’s future—are no longer hers to shape. California will continue to stand up for all women, because when women have control over their own lives and bodies, kids, families, economies, and entire communities thrive.”

    First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom

Dangers in the “Big, Beautiful Bill”

According to Planned Parenthood, passage of the Congressional Republicans’ budget bill would put nearly 200 Planned Parenthood health centers at risk of closing, block 1.1 million patients from essential care like birth control and cancer screenings, and decimate abortion access in all 50 states.

Newsom actions to protect abortion access

In the years since the Dobbs decision, California has stepped up to lead the way in protecting access to reproductive freedom for people in California and for those who travel to California to access this essential health care:

    • May 2025: The 2025-2026 May Revision proposes expanding the authority of CalRx to purchase brand-name drugs. This change gives the state more tools to respond to supply chain disruptions, market manipulation, or politically motivated restrictions that could threaten access to essential medications — including medication abortion.

    • May 2024: Governor Newsom signed SB 233 with the Legislative Women’s Caucus to allow Arizona abortion providers to temporarily provide abortion care to patients from Arizona who travel to California for care following the Arizona Supreme Court’s ruling to reimpose a regressive 1864 law imposing a near-total abortion ban in their state.

    • January 2024: The Reproductive Freedom Alliance, led by Governor Newsom, filed an amicus curiae brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Food and Drug Administration, et al., v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, arguing that, if the Court allowed the Fifth Circuit’s decision rejecting FDA’s approval of mifepristone to stand, it would undermine Governors’ ability to provide adequate healthcare services and would have far-reaching implications beyond reproductive healthcare. The Supreme Court sided with the FDA in June 2024.

    • May 2023: First Partner Siebel Newsom spoke with the California Legislative Women’s Caucus about the State’s efforts to protect reproductive freedom.

    • April 2023: Governor Newsom procured an emergency stockpile of Misoprostol, a safe and effective medication abortion drug, as legal challenges continue to move through the courts in an attempt to block Mifepristone.

    • March 2023: Governor Newsom joined 13 other Governors in calling on major pharmacies to clarify plans for dispensing Mifepristone and other actions they plan to take to safeguard access to reproductive health care drugs.

    • February 2023: Governor Newsom launched the Reproductive Freedom Alliance, a coalition of 22 Governors fighting together to protect and advance reproductive freedom.

    • January 2023: First Partner Siebel Newsom joined reproductive rights leaders on the steps of the California Capitol to talk about the importance of storytelling, uplifting voices, and sharing lived-experiences when it comes to the fight for reproductive freedom.

    • November 2022:

      • Governor Newsom posthumously pardoned California abortion provider Laura Miner as a powerful reminder of the generations of people who fought for reproductive freedom in this country.

      • Voters pass Governor Newsom and the Legislature’s Proposition 1, an amendment to the state constitution to enshrine the right to reproductive freedom – including abortion care and contraception.

    • September 2022:

      • Governor Newsom launched Abortion.CA.Gov to ensure people across California, and the country, can access essential information regarding reproductive health care, including resources available to support access to care.

      • Governor Newsom, working with the Legislature, ensured California passed the largest reproductive freedom bill package in state history, building firewalls around California as a reproductive freedom state.

    • June 2022, Governor Newsom:

      • Signed legislation to help protect patients and providers in California against radical attempts by other states to extend their anti-abortion laws into California, on the same day Roe v. Wade was overturned.

      • Invested over $200 million in reproductive health care. A large amount of these funds have already been disbursed for a variety of community efforts to maintain and increase reproductive health care services.

      • Issued an Executive Order protecting all state-held data and information from being used by out-of-state anti-abortion groups to target providers and patients.

Summer 2025 Use Cases: From Coast to Coast

As per official website reports show ChillWell 2.0 being adopted in various American climates:

    • Southwest States (Arizona, Nevada): Residents praise the device’s humidification feature during arid heatwaves.
    • East Coast Cities (New York, D.C.): Apartment dwellers appreciate its portability in buildings with strict AC regulations.

    2. Fill the water reservoir with cool tap water
    3. Choose your fan speed and direction
    4. Recharge using the USB-C cable provided

The water cartridge can be reused for weeks with regular rinsing, and users can add ice cubes to enhance the cooling effect in especially hot environments.

How ChillWell 2.0 AC Works: A Simple Yet Effective Hydro-Cooling System

According to official website, At the heart of ChillWell 2.0 is a hydro-chill evaporative cooling process—a method engineered to deliver rapid, focused comfort using water-based airflow mechanics.
Unlike conventional air conditioners that rely on chemical refrigerants, ducts, or compressors, ChillWell 2.0 leverages natural water evaporation to lower air temperature in a compact zone around the user.
    Here’s how the technology works:

    1. Water Tank Activation – The user fills the built-in reservoir with cold tap water. For enhanced effect, ice cubes can be added to intensify cooling during extreme heat.
    2. Cooling Cartridge Engagement – The replaceable hydro-cooling cartridge absorbs the water and allows air to pass through its moisture-rich filter.
    3. Airflow & Fan Control – Once the device is powered on, an internal fan pulls in warm air from the environment and passes it through the wet cartridge.
    4. Evaporative Cooling Effect – As air moves through the damp filter, evaporation draws heat away from the air, lowering its temperature and re-releasing it as a cool, moistened breeze.
    5. Adjustable Climate Comfort – Users can choose from four fan speeds—Low, Medium, High, and Turbo—to adjust intensity, direction, and coverage based on their needs.

Because it does not cool the entire room but rather creates a microclimate in a 3–5 foot radius, ChillWell 2.0 is ideal for personal spaces such as desks, bedsides, kitchen counters, RV tabletops, or reading nooks.
The entire process uses minimal electricity and no chemical refrigerants, making it both eco-responsible and cost-conscious—a practical solution for modern users seeking immediate relief without increasing their power bill.

When positioned near outdoor seating or under covered gazebos, ChillWell 2.0 delivers a focused cooling zone that enhances comfort during peak heat—without requiring noisy generators or invasive installations.
In a market flooded with large, power-hungry equipment, ChillWell 2.0 offers a minimalist alternative tailored for the modern, mobile lifestyle.

Why College Students Are Choosing ChillWell This Summer

In university dormitories and off-campus housing across the country, ChillWell 2.0 is rapidly becoming a seasonal essential among college students navigating the challenges of extreme heat in compact, shared living spaces.
Many dormitories restrict window AC installations for safety or energy policy reasons, leaving students with limited cooling options during peak summer terms. ChillWell 2.0 provides a compliant, non-disruptive alternative that allows students to cool their personal zones without violating building guidelines or disturbing roommates.
The appeal is rooted in its plug-and-play functionality and low power requirements—perfect for crowded desks, bunk beds, or study nooks with limited outlets. With rising awareness of climate impact and cost-consciousness among Gen Z consumers, students are gravitating toward ChillWell 2.0’s sustainable design, rechargeable battery, and water-based cooling mechanism.
Beyond the dorm, the device travels easily to libraries, shared kitchens, summer internships, or co-working lounges—empowering students to create a comfort zone wherever they go. Compact enough to fit in a backpack and versatile enough to operate via laptop USB, ChillWell 2.0 is redefining how students approach summer survival on campus.
As universities prepare for another record-hot season, ChillWell 2.0 is emerging as a must-have accessory for academic comfort and personal climate control.

NEWTON, Mass., June 24, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — HAProxy Technologies, the company behind HAProxy One, the world’s fastest application delivery and security platform, today announced a landmark achievement in the G2 Summer 2025 Grid® and Index Reports, showcasing unprecedented momentum and sustained leadership. The company was named a Leader in 24 Grid® Reports and five Momentum Grid® Reports. Along with an exceptional Satisfaction Score of 99 and badges including Best Results, Best Relationship, and Best Usability, HAProxy was recognized across multiple G2 categories with Leader positions in Load Balancing, DDoS Protection, Web Application Firewall (WAF), Web Security, API Management, Container Networking, and DevOps.

HAProxy has the distinction of being named a Leader in every G2 category where it is listed, demonstrating the breadth and depth of the HAProxy One platform in comparison with traditional load balancing appliances, single-purpose security or API tools, and products that are available only as-a-service and in the cloud. HAProxy One is perfectly positioned to enable significant cost reduction, enhanced privacy and security, and new use cases such as LLM routing and cloud mesh.

“HAProxy’s industry leadership tells a unique story of a company and community that are dedicated to user satisfaction, continually adapting to a changing tech landscape, with performance and security in the DNA of everything we do,” said Dujko Radovnikovic, CEO, HAProxy Technologies. “As a result, our unified platform delivers unbeatable value – as shown in the hundreds of user reviews on G2.”

G2 category leadership builds on 2025 momentum

These impressive results wrap up an outstanding Spring season for HAProxy Technologies, in which the company continued to build momentum in cloud native and security categories, while pushing the limits of performance at scale.

HAProxy was created in 2001, and next year will celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary. Speaking in his keynote at HAProxyConf earlier this month, Kelsey Hightower, a well-known technologist and cloud computing expert, said, “When you do something really well, for a really long time, you become legendary.”

Also at HAProxyConf, Ben Meidell, Sr. Site Reliability Engineer at Roblox, showed how the immersive gaming and creation platform uses hundreds of HAProxy instances to manage and secure millions of requests per second. Commenting on the performance impact of HAProxy Enterprise WAF, Meidell said, “One of the big points about scaling up a web application firewall is the potential impact. We have been extremely impressed with the performance of HAProxy Enterprise WAF. When we first activated it, CPU increase was so negligible that I wondered if I’d made a mistake somewhere. But then I saw all the violations it was catching and realized just how effective it was.”

  • MIL-OSI China: Alert renewed as scorching heat persists across several regions in China

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

Scientists have uncovered evidence indicating that humans extensively used fire to transform environments as early as 50,000 years ago — far earlier than previously believed.

During the day on Wednesday, parts of Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Xinjiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, Guangdong and Guangxi will experience scorching weather, with temperatures reaching over 35 degrees Celsius, according to the National Meteorological Center (NMC).

High temperatures ranging from 37 to 39 degrees Celsius are expected in some of the aforementioned regions — with certain local areas even set to experience temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, the NMC said.

The center suggested that people take protective measures to prevent excessive exposure to the sun.

China has a four-tier weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.

  • MIL-OSI China: Iran’s death toll from Israeli attacks surpasses 600: ministry

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

The death toll from Israeli strikes across Iran over the past 12 days has reached 606, with 5,332 others injured, Iran’s Health Minister Mohammad-Reza Zafarghandi said on Tuesday.

Zafarghandi described the past 24 hours as witnessing the “most horrific attacks and aggressions” by Israel since the start of the aerial conflict on June 13, resulting in 104 deaths and 1,342 injuries.

Meanwhile, Israel’s Health Ministry has reported 28 fatalities and 3,238 injuries on its side since the onset of the conflict.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced late Monday night that a ceasefire between the two sides would begin around 0400 GMT Tuesday.

Although both Iran and Israel accepted the ceasefire, violations were reported by both sides hours into the ceasefire, and both sides vowed to retaliate.

  • MIL-OSI China: Trump tells Israel not to drop more bombs on Iran

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

U.S. President Donald Trump told Israel on Tuesday “do not drop those bombs” on Iran, saying that this would be a “major violation” of the ceasefire.

“ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO, IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW!” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform.

Israel said on Tuesday it had identified missiles from Iran, shortly after the Israeli authorities said they had accepted a ceasefire proposed by Trump.

Iran had rejected reports of having launched missiles towards Israel following the ceasefire declared between the two sides earlier in the day, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement that he had “instructed the military to respond forcefully to Iran’s violation of the ceasefire with intense strikes” against targets “in the heart of Tehran.”

The missiles triggered air raid sirens across the Haifa area before being intercepted by the Israeli air defense systems, the military said. No injuries or damage had been reported.

Meanwhile, the Israeli Air Force continued its strikes in Iran, unleashing another wave of strikes in western Iran, with the military saying they had targeted missile launchers.

The latest escalation came shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday that Israel had accepted a ceasefire proposed by Trump and had achieved its war goals against Iran.

Trump had earlier announced that a ceasefire between the two sides would begin around 0400 GMT, with Iran expected to halt its operations first.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said earlier that there was no “agreement” on a ceasefire between Iran and Israel. However, he suggested Iran would be prepared to halt further retaliation if Israeli attacks stopped by 4 a.m. Tehran time (0030 GMT).

“If Israel stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 a.m., Iran has no intention of continuing its response afterwards,” Araqchi wrote in a post on X, adding that “the final decision on the cessation of our military operations will be made later.”

The conflicting narratives raised questions about the implementation and durability of any potential ceasefire. It remained unclear whether the reported deal had been communicated through diplomatic channels, or whether either side intended to follow the terms.

Trump announced Monday evening that Israel and Iran have reached a formal agreement to implement a complete and total ceasefire, marking what he called the end of the “12-Day War.”

In a post on his Truth Social platform Monday, Trump said the ceasefire would initially last 12 hours, during which the opposing sides would maintain a posture of “peace and respect.”

  • MIL-OSI China: AIIB’s first decade marks a path of multilateral, sustainable development

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

As the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) marks its 10th anniversary, the multilateral development bank is playing an increasingly prominent role in advancing connectivity, green growth, and sustainable development across regions.

Founded in 2015, AIIB has grown from 57 founding members to 110 across six continents, covering 81 percent of the world’s population and 65 percent of global GDP.

Over the past decade, it has approved over 60 billion U.S. dollars in financing for 320 projects, leveraging more than 200 billion U.S. dollars in infrastructure investment.

From electrifying rural Bangladesh to building roads in Cote d’Ivoire, AIIB-supported projects are narrowing infrastructure gaps and improving lives across continents.

    Infrastructure transforming lives

In Padmo Para village near Dhaka, Bangladesh, local resident Najma Aktar recalls a time when her family studied by the light of a kerosene lamp. That changed in 2016, when the AIIB provided a 165 million U.S. dollar loan to upgrade the local power grid.

As the bank’s first standalone financed investment, it brought electricity to 12.5 million rural residents, transforming their daily lives.

By the end of 2024, AIIB has supported over 51,000 kilometers of transport infrastructure — enough to circle the Earth more than once — and benefited more than 410 million people.

In Indonesia, AIIB supported the upgrading of urban slums, improving the lives of nearly 10 million people. In China’s Yunnan Province, airport expansion enhanced flower exports and boosted farmers’ incomes by 25 percent. In Uzbekistan, AIIB helped extend access to clean water for 660,000 residents.

“AIIB’s concrete actions have effectively helped bridge global infrastructure investment gaps, advanced regional development, and contributed positively to global economic growth,” said Lu Feng, professor at Peking University.

    Multilateral platform for cooperation

“AIIB was established on the principles of multilateralism and high international standards,” the bank’s president Jin Liqun told Xinhua in a recent interview, noting that these principles have enabled the bank to earn broad trust and participation across the globe.

AIIB’s investments span not only Asia but also Africa, Latin America, and beyond, reflecting its commitment to promoting global sustainable development.

“Asia cannot thrive in isolation,” Jin said, noting that while the bank’s primary focus is Asia, its work also supports broader cooperation that contributes to meaningful development outcomes around the world.

Reflecting this vision, AIIB has actively expanded its global partnerships and collaborative financing efforts. It is now the largest co-financing partner of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, and has built partnerships with over 100 organizations, including multilateral and regional institutions, policy banks, private sector players and philanthropy foundations.

On the capital markets side, AIIB had issued over 54 billion U.S. dollars equivalent bonds in multiple currencies as of the end of May, and has consistently maintained triple-A credit ratings from Moody’s, S&P, and Fitch. Moody’s, for instance, credited the bank’s top rating to its strong financial footing, well-performing assets, and ample liquidity.

“AIIB has become a new model for multilateral cooperation through its innovative operations and collaborative approach,” said Bai Chong’en, dean of the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University, noting its flexible and pragmatic support for infrastructure development in developing countries.

    Investing in infrastructure for tomorrow

Amid rising global challenges, AIIB is positioning itself as a future-oriented development bank that supports both traditional and digital infrastructure for the long haul.

In 2020, the bank launched its corporate strategy themed “Infrastructure for Tomorrow,” with priorities including green infrastructure, technology-enabled infrastructure, connectivity and cross-border cooperation, and private capital mobilization.

By 2025, at least 50 percent of its approved financing was expected to support climate-related projects, a target the bank achieved in 2022, three years ahead of schedule.

In Cote d’Ivoire, an AIIB-financed rural road project approved in 2023 has made it easier for villagers to reach hospitals and sell cashews and cocoa, even during flood seasons. Local project coordinator Gilbert Ekpini said residents were thrilled with the changes.

By the end of 2024, AIIB-supported projects had added 21.3 gigawatts of installed power generation capacity of renewable energy, helping to reduce nearly 30 million tonnes of CO2-equivalent greenhouse gas emissions annually.

The bank is increasingly helping its members embrace the digital era. Last year, AIIB launched InfraTech Portal, a digital platform that shares comprehensive, neutral and free information on infrastructure technologies.

“Artificial intelligence holds vast potential and offers developing countries an opportunity to leap ahead in their development,” Jin said.

“That’s why our infrastructure investments must evolve with the times. We should ensure that emerging technologies like AI help narrow, but not widen, the digital divide, especially for the developing world,” he added.

  • West Asia ceasefire unravels within hours as Israel and Iran exchange strikes

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

The ceasefire between Israel and Iran unraveled within hours of its announcement, as both sides launched fresh attacks and accused each other of violations. Israeli officials confirmed a strike on a radar installation near Tehran in response to three missiles reportedly fired by Iran, one at 07:06 and two more at 10:25 local time, after the truce had taken effect.

Explosions were reported in Iran’s northern Mazandaran province, including the cities of Babol and Babolsar, prompting the activation of air defense systems. Tehran denied launching any new missiles, while Israel cited precise timings to assert Iranian non-compliance, resulting in conflicting narratives and casting doubt on the ceasefire’s enforceability. However, no further incidents were reported after U.S. President Donald Trump spoke directly with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The ceasefire, brokered with Qatar’s mediation following intensive negotiations and U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, had been announced by President Trump on June 23. Both Netanyahu and Iranian state media publicly acknowledged the agreement, raising initial hopes of de-escalation. However, the swift breakdown revealed fundamental disagreements over the scope and terms of the truce.

Trump, visibly frustrated, condemned both sides: “Iran did. Israel did, too. I’m not happy with Israel. Don’t go out first hour. Not happy with Iran, either.” In a pointed warning, he added, “DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW!” Israeli officials later confirmed they had refrained from further attacks following Netanyahu’s call with the U.S. President.

The breakdown of the ceasefire coincides with the opening of the NATO summit in The Hague, Netherlands, where the conflict has already overshadowed the alliance’s traditional focus on defense spending and unity. President Trump arrived at the summit just hours after announcing the truce, only to see it fall apart soon after. The renewed violence in West Asia has forced NATO leaders to address the region’s rapidly deteriorating security situation while continuing to grapple with ongoing challenges such as the war in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, regional air traffic is gradually resuming. Air India Express announced the restart of its services to West Asia from June 24, with flights resuming today on the Delhi, Muscat route, and additional services to Muscat, Riyadh, and Jeddah from Mumbai, Kozhikode, and Jaipur. Flights to and from major UAE cities, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain, and Ras Al Khaimah, are scheduled to resume tomorrow.

  • MIL-OSI Europe: ASIA/CAMBODIA – Apostolic Prefect of Battambang on the closure of the border with Thailand: “The crisis affects ordinary people above all”

Battambang (Agenzia Fides) – The government of Cambodia has confirmed that the Thai army unilaterally closed all border crossings with Cambodia on the night of June 23. According to the Thai army, border crossings in six Thai provinces bordering Cambodia have been closed, with few exceptions for students or people receiving medical treatment. All other human or vehicle traffic is currently prohibited. The closure is the latest in a series of reprisals that have intensified since the border incident on May 28, in which a Cambodian soldier was killed in gunfire in the so-called “Emerald Triangle,” a small green area on the border between Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos.It is one of several disputed regions that both Thailand and Cambodia claim as part of their territory. The two armies accused each other of firing first. On June 7, the Thai army temporarily closed the border and then reduced its opening hours. On June 12, Cambodia announced the suspension of electricity imports and closed the international border at Daung, in Battambang province, for “security reasons.”Thailand and Cambodia are separated by a border approximately 820 kilometers long, which runs through several disputed territories. “This dispute has existed for more than a century and dates back to the time of the French colonial empire,” explains Bishop Enrique Figaredo, Apostolic Prefect of Battambang (Cambodia), in an interview with Fides.”The parties involved are basing their decision on a map from 1907, which France, which occupied Cambodia as a colonial power until 1953, first used to draw the border between the two countries. Thailand argues that the map is not binding. Cambodia has appealed to the International Court of Justice to determine the territorial ownership of four disputed territories. Thailand also does not agree to appeal to the Court,” the Prefect said.”It should be noted that this crisis,” he added, “is causing hardship and inconvenience for ordinary people. The border between Cambodia and Thailand is indeed very porous and is constantly crossed by a lively trade and workers. The closure of the border blocks the flow of people and goods, so vital to social, economic, and cultural life.” Bishop Figaredo says that many people in the province of Battambang, the territory of his apostolic prefecture, are affected by these flows. “The local people are experiencing this phase with great disappointment, surprise, and confusion,” he notes. “There are also hundreds of displaced people, people stuck on the other side of the border who cannot return home,” he says. The dispute has aroused nationalist sentiments in both countries. Thailand has banned tourists and Thai citizens from visiting or working in Poipet, a Cambodian city whose economy relies on the presence of eight casinos frequented almost exclusively by Thai citizens. In this context, Thailand has also included security measures to paralyze transnational criminal activities in the dispute with Cambodia, as declared by Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The measures against fraud centers were implemented in early 2025, when Thailand cut off electricity, internet, and fuel supplies to some areas of Myanmar where cyber fraud activities were taking place. Thailand and Cambodia jointly dismantled a fraud center that housed hundreds of trafficked foreign workers in the city of Poipet. Cyber fraud and so-called “scam cities” have spread throughout Southeast Asia, especially in Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar. (PA) (Agenzia Fides, 24/6/2025)

  • MIL-OSI USA: Pingree, Langworthy, Wied Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Support Organic Dairy Farmers

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (1st District of Maine)

Today, Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine), a longtime organic farmer and member of the House Agriculture Committee, Congressman Tony Wied (R-Wisc.), and Congressman Nick Langworthy (R-N.Y.) reintroduced bipartisan legislation to support organic dairy farmers in Maine and across the country. The Organic Dairy Data Collection Act would enhance data collection at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to better understand the costs associated with producing organic milk.

“Organic dairy farmers across the country are continuing to grapple with volatile markets, persistent inflation, and unfair trade practices that drive up costs and squeeze already-thin margins. Without targeted action, we risk more farm closures, weakened regional food systems, and fewer organic choices for consumers,” said Congresswoman Pingree. “That’s why I’ve teamed up with Congressman Langworthy and Congressman Wied to introduce the Organic Dairy Data Collection Act—a bipartisan bill that would give USDA the tools it needs to better understand and address the unique challenges organic dairies face. As Congress works to reauthorize the Farm Bill, I’m fighting to make sure this commonsense fix is part of a broader effort to strengthen the organic sector and ensure it remains a resilient and competitive part of our food system.”

“I am proud to introduce the bipartisan Organic Dairy Data Collection Act with my colleagues, which will provide much-needed transparency and support for New York’s organic dairy farmers,” said Congressman Langworthy. “New York State is home to hundreds of organic dairy operations that are vital to our rural economy and food supply. By directing the USDA to collect and publish accurate data on costs and milk prices, this bill ensures our farmers have the information they need to make informed business decisions and stay competitive. I’m grateful to the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York and other advocates for championing this effort.”

“Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District is home to many incredible organic dairy farms, and I am proud to support them by co-leading the Organic Dairy Data Collection Act with Reps. Pingree and Langworthy,” said Congressman Wied. “This bipartisan legislation will provide organic dairy farmers with the tools they need to increase market choice, and continue to thrive for years to come. This is a common sense bill and I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to get it passed and benefit our great farmers.”

The bipartisan Organic Dairy Data Collection Act:

    • Directs USDA to collect and publish cost-of-production data for organic milk, including the costs of major organic feedstuffs, domestically produced or imported.
    • Directs USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) to gather and report monthly data about the amounts that organic dairy farmers are being paid for organic milk.
    • Directs USDA NASS, the Economic Research Service (ERS) or Agricultural Research Service (ARS) to publish reports on the cost of production data by state, regional data on the quantity of organic milk production and prices.

This legislation is supported by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association, Organic Trade Association, Organic Farmers Association, National Organic Coalition, Organic Farming Research Foundation, Northeast Organic Dairy Producers Alliance,Western Organic Dairy Producers Alliance, and the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York.

“Improved organic data collection and reporting, bolstered by this bill, is going to provide more reliable and consistent information on organic dairy production costs and markets. The reality is that this type of information can vary region by region so this effort can help farmers like me plan for the year and make decisions on what actions I need to take on my organic dairy,” said Annie Watson, organic dairy farmer and owner of Sheepscot Valley Farm in Whitefield, Maine. “Representative Pingree continues her life’s work to advance organic agriculture with this bill – big thanks to her and Representatives Langworthy and Wied for introducing this targeted but meaningful bipartisan legislation.”

“We are thankful to Congresswoman Pingree and Congressmen Langworthy and Wied for taking the lead and acknowledging the lack of data we have accessible for organic dairies. This is a nationwide issue affecting organic dairy farmers of all sizes and backgrounds. Our hope is that this information becomes the conduit to many necessary conversations that the sustainability and succession of our industry hinges upon,” said Lia Sieler, Executive Director of the Western Organic Dairy Producers Alliance.

“Family run organic dairy farms provide healthy food and environmental stewardship to rural communities across the country. The Organic Dairy Data Collection Act can provide valuable data collection to inform future support for an industry facing economic crisis,” said Kate Mendenhall, Executive Director of Organic Farmers Association. “We applaud Representatives Pingree and Molinaro for championing this important work.”

“The famous business adage “You can’t manage what you don’t measure” applies to the organic dairy market. The Northeast Organic Dairy Producers Alliance supports the Organic Dairy Data Collection Act as it will provide that necessary measurement by requiring the collection and publication of data that will shed light on the state of the organic dairy sector. Representative Pingree’s leadership with this Act will help facilitate understanding and improvement in the market,” said Kathie Arnold, a New York organic dairy farmer and chair of the Northeast Organic Dairy Producers Alliance’s policy committee.

“Organic dairy producers and consumers in Maine and across the country are grateful to Representative Pingree for her introduction of the Organic Dairy Data Collection Act,” said Sarah Alexander, Executive Director of the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA). “A perfect storm of adverse effects, including escalating costs of production, low pay-prices, a labor shortage, unstable international supply chains, and dramatically shifting weather patterns have created a crisis for the organic dairy sector. This legislation is a critical component of an urgently needed rescue plan for organic dairy. Having a clear national picture of all costs associated with organic dairy production in each state, regional production data and pay prices will help ensure that technical and financial assistance goes where it is needed most.”

“Farmers, like all business managers, depend on solid and trustworthy data to make decisions. With the continued fluctuations in market conditions from global events impacting domestic organic dairy farmers, it is more important than ever for producers, stakeholders, and USDA to have access to accurate data. The Organic Trade Association is grateful for the vision and work of Reps. Pingree, Langworthy and Wied in introducing this important legislation, which will result in better and more useful regional organic dairy data collecting and reporting. We look forward to working with the sponsors in the House of Representatives to ensure its passage,” said Matthew Dillon, Co-CEO of the Organic Trade Association.

    Background:

As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, Pingree is working to support Maine dairy farmers in the upcoming Farm Bill.

Maine is home to a number of organic dairies and June marks Maine Dairy Month in honor of the dairy farmers, students, researchers, and Maine people behind a cornerstone of Maine’s agricultural economy and rural communities.

In December 2023, the House passed the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act, which Pingree co-sponsored, to help students thrive at school and support local dairy farmers and local economies.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Speaker Johnson: President Trump is Showing What “Peace Through Strength” Actually Means

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04)

WASHINGTON — This morning, Speaker Johnson joined Fox News’ Fox and Friends to react to the ceasefire deal between Israel and Iran and discuss the July 4 reconciliation deadline.

    Watch the full interview here.

On the success of American strikes in Iran and their nuclear program:

We’re under no illusion that you can just kill all their nuclear ambition overnight. But I think reality has set in over there. We have decimated the upper echelon of their military command as well as their nuclear scientists. I mean there’s not much for them to rebuild upon, but the idea that they would put out a statement like that at this fragile moment is very frustrating. It goes to show you why Iran has always been an irrational actor. They are not to be trusted, but we’ve got to use force. I mean, this is what peace through strength really means. You’ve got to forge the peace through the exercise of strength. That’s what decisive leadership, strong leadership that President Trump has provided here, allows the opportunity for. So, we’re going to be consistent. Our message and our actions are going to be consistent. We are going to bring this to a close one way or the other.

    On Iran rebuilding nuclear capabilities:

I think you’ve got to react, and cooler heads need to prevail. So obviously this is rhetoric. Iran is really good at that. There’s a lot of bluster, that’s what you would expect. They have been decimated, and they’ve been embarrassed on the world stage. So, some of this is to be expected. I think it’s more talk than action over there. But we’re going to have to verify that. This is very serious thing. I mean, we’ve been brought to the brink. It should be only a 12-day war. It should be over now. And we’re going to be consistent in our message and our action to ensure that that happens. We have to do that.

On the July 4 reconciliation deadline:

If the Senate does its job, not if, but when, I believe they will, I believe Leader Thune has his steady hand at the wheel, they’re going to deliver that product through the Senate, and we’ll have to take it and act upon it. The July 4th deadline is an important one. The President is insistent about it. I have been from the very beginning, and I think we can get this job done. I remain very optimistic that we will.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Man Brandishing Firearm at “No Kings” Protest Charged with Federal Firearms Violation

    Source: US FBI

NASHVILLE – Elijah Millar, 19, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was federally charged on Friday, June 20, with the unlawful possession of a firearm, announced Robert E. McGuire, Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee.

According to court documents, Millar went to a “No Kings” protest near Bicentennial Mall in downtown Nashville on June 14, 2025. Millar was dressed in all black, wearing a mask, and was, according to witnesses, carrying a firearm. Witnesses reported to law enforcement that Millar told the protestors that he had a firearm, spat at them, yelled at them, and brandished the firearm. Officers with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) then approached Millar, disarmed him, and arrested him. According to court documents, MNPD seized a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol from Millar at the time. Days later, officers of the Murfreesboro Police Department encountered Millar and recovered another loaded 9mm firearm from his waistband.

According to the federal criminal complaint, in 2023, the Chancery Court in Rutherford County, Tennessee entered an Order appointing an emergency conservator for Millar finding that he was “at risk of substantial harm to his health, safety, and welfare” and prohibiting him from receiving or possessing a firearm. In September 2024, a Chancery Court Judge in Rutherford County issued an “Agreed Order of Limited Conservatorship” for Millar finding him to be a “disabled person needing care” and significantly restricting his access to firearms.

“The right to peaceably protest government action is guaranteed by the First Amendment and cannot be infringed upon by armed individuals whose actions put people in danger,” said Acting United States Attorney Robert E. McGuire. “Our efforts to hold firearm offenders accountable are designed to keep all members of the public safe from potential violence.”

If convicted, Millar faces a maximum of 15 years in federal prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.

This case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Nashville Field Office, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, and the Murfreesboro Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joshua A. Kurtzman and Kathryn Risinger are prosecuting the case.

A complaint is merely an allegation. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Met officers foil drug gang murder plot

Source: United Kingdom London Metropolitan Police

Two drug kingpins have been found guilty of importing and dealing a tonne of cocaine and plotting a murder, following one of the largest EncroChat investigations in history led by Met detectives.

The Met’s investigation uncovered the two men’s plan to commit a murder, as well as their role in delivering millions of pounds worth of drugs across the capital and beyond.

The evidence of the offences were identified after officers trawled through thousands of messages on encrypted communication service EncroChat.

Thought to be impenetrable by law enforcement, Met officers accessed chats between James Harding and Jayes Kharouti.

It was identified that James Harding, 34 (01.01.1991), of Alton, Hampshire, was the head of a sophisticated organised drug dealing network, turning over an estimated £5 million profit in just 10 weeks. Harding resided in Dubai at the time of his arrest.

Harding was found guilty by the jury of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs and conspiracy to commit murder on Tuesday, 24 June at The Old Bailey, following a seven-week trial.

Kharouti, 39, (09.02.1986) of Depot Road, Epsom, previously admitted to his role in supplying drugs on Friday, 8 November 2024 at The Old Bailey. He was also found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder alongside Harding on Tuesday, 24 June at the same court.

Chats on the encrypted messaging site unveiled they both spoke, in detail, about their plan to kill a suspected drug courier from a ‘rival crime network’.

Detective Chief Inspector Jim Casey, who led the investigation, said: “This conviction sends a clear message: no matter how sophisticated the methods, criminals cannot hide behind encrypted software.

“This operation dismantled a major supply chain and is a testament to the relentless work of our officers.

“We monitored their drug-dealing activity but then we saw the group discussing the contract killing of a rival.  We moved fast to protect those in danger.

“Harding and Kharouti planned to kill, we stopped that and put them before the courts.”

This case is part of a wider operation to take down those who utilised EncroChat, after the National Crime Agency (NCA) passed information onto the Met after European agencies cracked the encrypted communications platform.

So far, Met investigations have led to more than 5,000 years-worth of prison sentences for criminals on the site.

Detective Inspector Driss Hayoukane QPM, who oversaw the Met’s EncroChat operation, added:

“Thanks to the tenacity and commitment from Met officers, over 500 criminals have been successfully convicted since the EncroChat platform was cracked back in 2020, leading to well over 5,000 years of sentences being handed down to those involved.

“This represents our commitment to combatting illegal drug supply, as well as the serious violence that comes with it.

“Our work doesn’t stop here – we will continue to pursue those who profit from bringing harm to our communities and will continue to deliver our mission of reducing crime.”

    The investigation

Following the thorough investigation into a series of conversations on EncroChat, the Met discovered Harding used the handle “thetopsking”, while Kharouti used “besttops”. They used the platform to confidently communicate with each other about their vast criminal enterprise.

The Met spent hundreds of hours reviewing and analysing these messages. Among them were clear conspiracies to carry out a murder of a rival drug gang member with detailed plans, involving recruiting paid hitmen, arranging firearms and getaway vehicles. They had also discussed times, dates and locations.

This was on top of plans to coordinate deliveries of hundreds of kilograms of cocaine across the country, manage their vast finances and discuss security threats.

The court heard that approximately 50 importations were made into the UK, with a total weight of one tonne, between April and June 2020.

This allowed Harding to live a lavish lifestyle in the United Arab Emirates, where he conducted his criminal enterprise.

    The arrests

Harding was arrested on Monday, 27 December 2021 at Geneva Airport, Switzerland. On Friday, 27 May 2022, he was extradited from Switzerland to the UK when he was arrested by Met officers.

Kharouti’s home was searched in 2020 after he was linked to the messages. Police found a handset with the same number he gave to Harding. He fled the country shortly after this, before being found in Turkey and extradited back to the UK.

They are both due to be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Thursday, 26 June.

  • MIL-OSI Security: ICE Arrests 11 Iranian Nationals Illegally in the U.S. Over the Weekend

Source: US Department of Homeland Security

Criminal illegal aliens arrested include an individual with admitted ties to Hezbollah, a known or suspected terrorist, and an alleged former sniper for the Iranian army

WASHINGTON — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 11 Iranian nationals illegally in the United States over the weekend. ICE also arrested a U.S. citizen who threatened to kill ICE law enforcement while harboring an illegal alien from Iran. The weekend arrests reflect the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) commitment to keeping known and suspected terrorists out of American communities.

“Under Secretary Noem, DHS has been full throttle on identifying and arresting known or suspected terrorists and violent extremists that illegally entered this country, came in through Biden’s fraudulent parole programs or otherwise,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “We have been saying we are getting the worst of the worst out—and we are. We don’t wait until a military operation to execute; we proactively deliver on President Trump’s mandate to secure the homeland.”

    • On June 22, ICE Atlanta arrested Ribvar Karimi in Locust, Alabama. Karimi reportedly served as an Iranian Army sniper from 2018 to 2021 and at the time of his arrest, in his possession, he had an Islamic Republic of Iran Army identification card. He entered the U.S. on a K-1 visa, which is reserved for aliens engaged to be married to American citizens, in October 2024 under the Biden administration. Karimi never adjusted his status — a legal requirement — and is removable from the United States. He’s currently in ICE custody, where he’ll remain pending removal proceedings.
    • On June 22, ICE Houston officials arrested Behzad Sepehrian Bahary Nejad, an alien with a final order of removal, who was carrying a loaded 9mm pistol at the time of his arrest. Sepehrian entered the U.S. in Houston on Dec. 9, 2016, on an F-1 student visa. On Aug. 19, 2017, Harris County police arrested him for assaulting a family member by impeding breathing; his wife told the local assistant district attorney that Sepehrian was threatening her and obtained a restraining order against him. She also alleged he was threatening her family in Iran. On July 23, 2018, the University of Texas terminated Sepehrian’s status after he was placed on academic suspension. An immigration judge ordered him removed on Oct. 10, 2019, after he was released on an immigration bond; he filed a motion to reopen his case, which a Department of Justice immigration judge denied. Sepehrian is in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
    • Also in Houston, ICE arrested Hamid Reza Bayat, an Iranian national an immigration judge ordered removed nearly 20 years ago, on Aug. 4, 2005. Twice convicted of drug crimes and once convicted of driving on a suspended license, Bayat served time before receiving his final order of removal. He’s now in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
    • On June 22, in Tempe — a Phoenix, Arizona suburb — ICE agents arrested Mehrzad Asadi Eidivand, an Iranian citizen with a final order of removal convicted of threatening a law enforcement officer and being an alien in possession of a firearm. Eidivand entered the U.S. in San Ysidro, California, in June 2012. In August 2013, an immigration judge granted him a voluntary departure, which allows an alien to leave the country without a formal ICE removal, but he never left. Eidivand will remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
    • At the same residence, officials arrested Linet Vartaniann, a United States citizen, for threatening a law enforcement officer and harboring Eidivand, an illegal alien. Vartaniann threatened to open fire on ICE officials if they entered her home, then said she would go outside and “shoot ICE officers in the head.” ICE officials obtained a search warrant for the residence and arrested the pair, who are now charged with federal crimes.
    • On June 22, in Gluckstadt, Mississippi, ICE officers and agents arrested Yousef Mehridehno, an Iranian national and former lawful permanent resident. The U.S. government terminated Mehridehno’s residency in October 2017 after determining he lied on his original visa application and committed potential marriage fraud. In February, Mehridehno was listed as a known or suspected terrorist, and he’s now in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
    • On June 22, in Colorado Springs, ICE officials arrested Mahmoud Shafiei and Mehrdad Mehdipour — two illegally present Iranian nationals living together. Immigration officials first encountered Shafiei in Seattle, Washington, in January 1981; a judge ordered him removed in January 1987. His criminal history includes state and federal convictions for drug crimes and arrests for assault and child abuse. U.S. Border Patrol encountered Mehdipour in June 2023 during the Biden administration near Rio Grande Valley, Texas, and processed him as an expedited removal. Both men are in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
    • On June 22, in St. Paul, Minnesota, ICE arrested Mehran Makari Saheli, a 56-year-old Iranian national. • MIL-OSI USA: Bioinspired Materials Can Take a Punch

Certain creatures have unique microstructures in their exoskeletons that enable them to withstand heavy impacts continuously over time. These Bouligand structures can be found in the mantis shrimp, blue crab, glorious beetle and many more (shown here).

Some of the most innovative and useful inventions have been inspired by nature. Take the Shinkansen bullet train in Japan, whose aerodynamic design is modeled after the kingfisher bird. Or Velcro, which a Swiss engineer invented after observing that the burrs that stick to a dog’s fur have tiny hooks in them.

Now, scientists have turned to a small underwater predator for inspiration. The mantis shrimp is a colorful invertebrate that packs a powerful punch. It can crack clamshells with the force of a .22 caliber bullet, thanks to unique structures that make its exoskeleton surprisingly strong.

Researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) have made synthetic versions of these structures and tested their impact performance by blasting microprojectiles at them. They discovered that adjusting specific parameters of the structures changed how they absorbed and dissipated the impact energy.

“The results and insights of this research mark an important advance in bioinspired materials design with applications for aerospace, such as helping spacecraft survive the impact of micrometeoroids and protecting orbiting satellites that collide with debris,” said NIST materials research engineer Edwin Chan.

Other potential applications include better bullet-resistant glass, blast-resistant building materials, and more protective helmets.

Chan and his colleagues published their findings in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

This research idea came from Sujin Lee, who came to NIST as a National Research Council (NRC) postdoctoral fellow. Lee wanted to understand why the mantis shrimp’s appendage didn’t break as it smashed the shells of other creatures. Chan was also intrigued by this concept, and the two developed a research project to find out.

“When a person punches someone, their hand hurts, but with a mantis shrimp, it doesn’t,” said Chan. Or it doesn’t seem to, anyway. Lee and Chan already knew that this was related to microscopic “Bouligand structures” in the shrimp’s exoskeleton.

“Bouligand structures are a universal material platform for impact resistance in nature, and we wanted to learn more about them, so we produced and tested them in the lab,” said Chan.

Lee and Chan synthesized the structures from cellulose nanocrystals, which are found in plant fibers. The nanocrystals self-assembled into plates, which layered on top of each other like rotating stacks of plywood.

Those stacks formed their synthetic Bouligand structures. Researchers then modified the crystals using high-frequency sound waves before assembling them into thin films that served as their test material.

Next, they tested the impact resistance of the thin films by firing microprojectiles at them at speeds of up to 600 meters per second. The microprojectiles, made of silica, were propelled toward their target by a high-intensity laser. The researchers recorded images of the microprojectiles impacting the thin films with an ultrafast camera.

    Microprojectile Hitting CNC Film

NIST researchers tested the impact performance of synthetic versions of structures found in the exoskeleton of mantis shrimp. They used high-intensity lasers to fire microprojectiles made of silica at thin films of these synthetic structures.

Based on those images, the researchers observed that a microprojectile can leave a permanent indentation while also bouncing back like a tennis ball hitting the ground. The degree of indentation and the amount of bounce-back depended on how the energy dissipated or spread out in shockwaves after the microprojectile’s impact.

The researchers discovered that they could adjust how the energy dissipated by fine-tuning various factors that affected the sample’s mechanical properties, such as making the nanocrystals thicker or changing their density. They found that the microprojectiles left permanent indentations in the thinner films, but the thicker films excelled at redirecting the shockwaves from the impact.

NIST worked on this project as part of its mission to develop advanced measurement methods that can be useful to U.S. industry. Researchers can use the measurement methods developed for this project to further develop impact-resistant materials based on Bouligand structures as well as other types of advanced materials with special properties.

“These findings suggest that there are different ways to design materials to absorb impact, and we can use this knowledge to create more resilient and longer-lasting materials,” Chan said. “If you’re a boxer in the ring, you want to fight nine rounds, not just one.”
