  • MIL-OSI Russia: With the support of Rosneft, the main spring festival of indigenous peoples was held in Yugra and Tyumen

    Translartion. Region: Russians Fedetion –

Source: Rosneft – Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

With the support of Rosneft enterprises in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Yugra and in the Tyumen Region, the indigenous people of the Khanty and Mansi celebrated the most revered national holiday of the arrival of spring – Raven Day (“Vorna Khatl”).

Samotlorneftegaz, one of Rosneft’s largest production assets, organized a celebration in the “capital of Samotlor” – Nizhnevartovsk. About three thousand people from different regions of Yugra came to the Ecoethnopark tourist center for a symbolic meeting of spring. Five thematic areas were open for guests.

A camp with a tent, a storage shed, a sledge stand, fishing equipment and rowboats – oblas – was set up in the ethnopark. In an authentic setting, folk craftsmen held master classes for everyone interested in making amulet dolls and souvenirs dedicated to the holiday.

Experienced mushers took guests for a ride on reindeer sleds along specially laid tracks. Fans of active recreation competed in games of the peoples of the North – jumping over sleds, archery, pulling a stick on reindeer skins. The festive atmosphere was supported by performances by folk groups. Guests were treated to northern delicacies, an exhibition-fair of wild plants, exclusive fur products and handmade souvenirs was held.

In Tyumen, the traditional venue for the celebration was the ethnocultural center “House of Northern People” (“Uvas Mir Hot”), which was created and is being developed with the support of Rosneft’s enterprise – “RN-Uvatneftegaz”. The celebration began with the performance of traditional rituals of welcoming spring – tying multi-colored ribbons on birch branches and fumigating guests with smoke. The rich concert program consisted of vocal and choreographic numbers, playing national musical instruments – flute, tambourines. In the year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, most of the concert was dedicated to patriotic works.

Competitions in national sports were organized for adult guests. Craftswomen of traditional crafts presented decorative and applied arts products made of beads and fur at the exhibition-fair. The culmination of the “Raven Day” was the tasting of national cuisine dishes – fish soup from northern fish, porridge, tea on taiga herbs, berries and nuts.

Preservation of the national culture of the indigenous peoples of the North and their traditional way of life is one of the significant areas of Rosneft’s social policy. The Company’s enterprises implement many projects in the regions of their operations, develop the infrastructure of northern villages, improve the material and technical base of educational institutions and social facilities in the areas of original residence of indigenous peoples.

Samotlorneftegaz, within the framework of the agreement between Rosneft and the regional government, is implementing projects aimed at improving the quality of life of the indigenous peoples of the North. Since 2020, the company has been supporting a unique program to equip national camps with modern information and communication technologies. Currently, the project covers more than 3.6 thousand people – more than 70% of the indigenous people of Yugra leading a traditional way of life. With the support of the company, a reindeer herding skills competition is organized annually in Yugra. This year, more than 1.5 thousand people attended the large-scale event in the district capital.

RN-Uvatneftegaz supports representatives of the Khanty, Mansi and Evenki of the Tyumen Region, provides comprehensive assistance in preserving their unique culture and way of life. In recent years, RN-Uvatneftegaz has transferred more than 160 units of equipment to Khanty families – snowmobiles, boat motors, gasoline generators.

To preserve the culture and traditions of the northern peoples, the festival “Wealth of the Uvat Taiga” is held with the support of the enterprise. The winter festival originated as a fair of folk crafts, but thanks to the support of oil workers, it acquired the format of an ethnocultural festival. This year it became the most numerous – about 1.5 thousand guests from all taiga settlements of the Uvatsky district visited it.

Students of the Higher School of Automation and Robotics Nikolay Kiz and Georgy Makarov spoke in the sections “Integrated inertial and satellite systems” and “Artificial intelligence technologies in navigation and traffic control problems”. Nikolay presented a report on the topic “Research and development of a calibration algorithm for a four-diode sensor for the orientation of a small spacecraft”, and Georgy – “Detection of road obstacles on a digital terrain model”. Following the conference, their work was recognized as the best in the sections.

For Georgy and me, this conference was the first such experience, so the result surprised us both. It is very nice that the experts appreciated our reports. This experience will certainly help in the upcoming defense of the diploma work, so the presentation at the conference can be considered excellent training, – Nikolay noted.

The conference of young scientists marked the beginning of my scientific career. Nikolay and I really liked the level of organization on the part of the Central Research Institute “Elektropribor”, the involvement of the participants. All the reports were informative and interesting. • MIL-OSI Russia: Everything about admission to GUU: answers to the most important questions

    Translartion. Region: Russians Fedetion –

Source: State University of Management – Official website of the State –

The 2025 admissions campaign will begin in June. Information for applicants is available on the official website of the GUU Admissions Committee and in the Telegram channel “Applicant’s Assistant”.

However, we decided to get answers to the most frequently asked questions directly from the head of the department for organizing admissions of applicants at our university, Vadim Dikikh.

What applicants need to do now

At the moment, applicants do not have much time left before the start of the admissions campaign, so it is important to start preparing a portfolio for admission now.

Applicants to bachelor’s degree programs can pass the GTO, participate in tournaments held by universities and various organizations, and receive volunteer hours.

Applicants to Master’s programs can take part in SUM tournaments and also publish articles in the Russian Science Citation Index and Higher Attestation Commission.

Applicants to postgraduate programs can participate in all-Russian and/or international student Olympiads and competitions, publish articles in journals included in the core of the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI), in the list of the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC) categories K1, K2, K3, monographs indexed in the RSCI database, and also undergo professional retraining.

In addition to the above, it is necessary to choose the direction and university in which the potential will be best revealed.

What areas are recruited at the State University of Management?

In 2025, recruitment is underway in 16 bachelor’s degree programs, 13 master’s degree programs, and 14 postgraduate research specialties.

How many budget and contract places are provided in 2025

I would like to note that this year the innovations affected places for training under a contract: now their specific number is set at the beginning of the campaign and does not change anymore, so the competition here may become stricter and you should not postpone the conclusion of the contract until the last days of the campaign.

In 2025, the State University of Management has allocated 188 budget places and 2029 contract places for undergraduate studies, and 37 and 1206 places for graduate studies, respectively.

In 2025, 15 budget places and 98 contract places are provided for in scientific specialties of postgraduate studies at the State University of Management.

Who can apply using the Unified State Exam, and who will have to take entrance examinations

For applicants to bachelor’s degree programs who graduated from Russian schools and do not have benefits, admission will be based solely on the results of the Unified State Exam; no additional entrance examinations need to be taken.

For graduates with secondary vocational education (colleges, technical schools, etc.), there is the possibility of admission based on the results of the Unified State Exam and/or based on the results of entrance examinations in a specialized field, conducted by the State University of Management independently.

Other categories that have the right to take general education entrance examinations (in subjects and assignments of the Unified State Exam), conducted by the State University of Management independently:

disabled persons; applicants entitled to a separate quota (participants, children of participants of the Secondary Military School); foreign citizens who have not passed the Unified State Exam; graduates of schools located in the territory of foreign states and who do not have the Unified State Exam results.

Applicants to master’s and postgraduate programs, regardless of category, take entrance examinations.

What entrance examinations will you have to take and in what form?

In 2025, entrance examinations at the State University of Management will be held online using neural networks and a proctoring system.

What individual achievements are taken into account and for what period

Infographics with ranking of achievements have been prepared for applicants to the bachelor’s degree. In addition, applicants to targeted training can receive 5 points for participating in career guidance events of customers of targeted training.

It is important to note that the All-Russian and list Olympiads of the Ministry of Education and Science are taken into account exclusively for the 11th grade, and all other things being equal, the average grade point average will play an important role.

You can also find out what individual achievements are taken into account on the website of the Admissions Committee of the State University of Management.

What individual achievements provide the greatest advantages when applying

The most obvious individual achievement that gives the highest score at all levels of education is an educational document with honors.

In addition, scientific activity and participation in tournaments and olympiads provide a great advantage in both undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate studies.

“Today is exactly the time when applicants can get additional points and increase their chances of admission.”

What documents must be provided to confirm achievements

The document confirming an individual achievement may vary, depending on the type of achievement.

Since 2025, most individual achievements will be verified and confirmed through the public services portal when submitting documents.

For example, to receive additional points for graduating from an educational institution with honors, you must provide a scanned copy or receive confirmation on government services when submitting documents.

For reliability, we recommend that you attach all documents that confirm individual achievements (diplomas, certificates, etc.).

An agreement on targeted training will be sent to your personal account, sign it in the Gosklyuch application. The terms of the contract can be changed by agreement with the customer. If the terms of the contract are not met, you will have to pay a fine – the details will be specified in the contract

What documents are needed for admission?

    How to submit documents

Documents can be submitted in any convenient way:

in person; online through the unified portal of public services; online through the university’s personal account; via a postal operator.

Is it possible to submit documents online: pros and cons

Submitting documents online has many advantages:

Submission of documents without being tied to a specific location; step-by-step and convenient procedure for submitting documents; the ability to track the status of document processing; a convenient procedure for concluding an agreement on the provision of paid educational services.

One of the disadvantages is the lack of live communication with university representatives.

What to do if an applicant is in another city or country and cannot submit documents in person

In 2025, applicants located in other cities and countries have an excellent opportunity to submit documents for admission to the State University of Management remotely in two ways:

online through the unified portal of public services; online through the university’s personal account.

It is important to know that if an applicant does not have a SNILS, application can only be submitted through the university’s personal account.

The most common mistakes of applicants

    Critical

changing a passport right before the day of the entrance exam; submitting documents through State Services without having a full account in your personal account; typos in certificates that no one checked when they were received at school.

    Simple but inconvenient

travel time to the university (if you live in the Moscow region, the university will not be able to provide a dormitory right away, since applicants from distant regions will be given priority); loss of SNILS, passport or even a volunteer book; refusal to take the Unified State Exam in specialized mathematics.

Frequent changes in statuses on the State Services portal, which can lead to a technical error in the service and universities simply will not see changes in priorities or documents that have changed more than 5-8 times in an hour.

Advice for applicants for successful admission this year

Do not miss the admissions campaign checklist dates and get into the desired university. Do not be afraid to participate in the budget competition, use any opportunity to get a higher education. While there is an opportunity, try to participate in Olympiads and competitions, and even if you have not yet tried to engage in volunteer activities, do not waste a minute, you can still manage to gain the necessary 100 hours to qualify for individual points in most universities in the country. Upload all the achievements that you have, and the admissions committee staff will check the entire set of documents and select those achievements that give additional points. Do not make emotional and ill-considered decisions that can only be changed during the next admissions campaign, and thereby lose an entire year of study.

The most important thing is to make a conscious choice of higher education institution and the field of study. Try to understand the profession now, and if you have any questions, come to the Open Days, we will definitely help you make the right choice.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Global cooling may have caused the Neolithic revolution in the ancient Volga region

    Translartion. Region: Russians Fedetion –

Source: Novosibirsk State University – Novosibirsk State University –

Scientists from NSU together with colleagues from Samara State Social and Pedagogical University and the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences studied artifacts from Mesolithic sites in the Volga region using radiocarbon and isotope analysis methods. Human and animal bone fragments, tools and even soil were studied at the NSU-NSC Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Shared Use Center. These studies are intended to shed light on the history of the development of the forest-steppe by ancient human populations and to identify the connection between fluctuations in human activity and major climatic events. The result of this work was the creation of an absolute chronology of Mesolithic complexes in the forest-steppe Volga region.

    — The work was interesting for us for several reasons. First of all, the wide range of dating centers that analyzed the presented samples and the combination of results from two different radiocarbon dating methods: scintillation and accelerator mass spectrometry. It is impossible not to note the diversity of objects for dating and the results of the accompanying analysis of stable isotopes (isotopes C-13 and N-15) in the entire set of samples. We described 28 samples dated in six centers, of which 6 samples were analyzed by the scintillation method (one in Moscow, five in St. Petersburg), and 22 samples by the accelerator mass spectrometry method. Scientists abroad worked with six samples (1 in Belgium, 2 in Finland, 3 in the USA), in Russia — with 22, of which 16 were dated here, at the NSU-NSC UMS Collective Use Center.

All the results fit into a single theory of the development of forest-steppe by ancient human populations, which suggests significant fluctuations in human activity associated with major climatic events of the Holocene, namely, with pronounced cooling phases against the background of general climate warming. These short periods are called the “preboreal oscillation”, which occurred 11.3-11.15 thousand years ago, the “event of 10.2 thousand years ago”, the “event of 8.2 thousand years ago”, etc. For example, it is known that in the Upper Volga basin in the European territory of Russia during the cooling period corresponding to the “event of 8.2 thousand years ago”, the average annual temperature dropped by 2-3 °C, and on average in Europe – by 1 °C. The probability distribution obtained on the basis of the dates presented in the work demonstrates approximately the same fluctuations as the average annual temperature, said Ekaterina Parkhomchuk, Director of the UMS NSU-NNC Collective Use Center and Candidate of Chemical Sciences.

The set of objects studied included human bone fragments and bone items (parts of a knife, a chisel, a bow overlay). There were also teeth of bears and elks, antlers of aurochs and elks, bones of beavers, horses and even soil. Ekaterina Parkhomchuk explained that the diversity of materials and full isotope analysis ensure the reliability of dating, since they allow taking into account various interfering factors, such as the characteristics of the human and animal diet or the so-called reservoir effect. It occurs, for example, if a person eats fish. As a result, the isotopic composition of his bone collagen (isotopic shifts in C-13 and N-15) can differ significantly from the indicators of those people and animals that live and eat mainly on land. Obviously, the same phenomenon will be observed for C-14 – people and animals with a marine diet will show an older radiocarbon age compared to land creatures that lived at the same time. Therefore, it is so important to conduct the most complete studies of a wide variety of archaeological objects. Moreover, determining not only the radiocarbon age, but also the isotopic and chemical composition of the material.

    — In addition to interesting technical aspects, this work is also important for us because it was carried out jointly with specialists from the European part of the country. Our center conducted most of the research on radiocarbon and isotope analysis and provided a tenfold increase in the database on the chronology of the Mesolithic forest-steppe Volga region. It is encouraging that the work continues, there are still many historical discoveries ahead! — Ekaterina Parkhomchuk summed up.

Associate Professor of the Department of Russian History and Archaeology of the Samara State Social and Pedagogical University, Candidate of Historical Sciences Konstantin Andreev noted that within the framework of this study, an intermediate result of many years of work on establishing the absolute age of the existence of Mesolithic complexes of the forest-steppe Volga region was summed up, which found support in the projects of the Russian Science Foundation (No. 19-78-10001 and No. 23-78-10088).

    — Up until the beginning of the 21st century, we did not have a single absolute date for these materials, and we had a very general understanding of the time of existence of this or that cultural tradition in the region. Thanks to the efforts of the last five years, about 30 age estimates have been obtained for many artifacts, which made it possible to date the region’s reference sites. Moreover, more than half of them were made at the NSU-NNC Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Collective Use Center. The earliest estimates of about 30 definitions of the appearance of new people in the forest-steppe Volga region include the period of the third quarter of the 9th millennium BC. At this time, population groups first from the Southern Urals, and then from the Southern Trans-Urals penetrated into the forest-steppe Volga region, with which contact was subsequently maintained until the end of the Mesolithic era in the first half of the 7th millennium BC. These population groups, in all likelihood, practiced hunting large ungulates – elk and horses. Judging by the short duration of their stay at the sites, they made frequent transitions following the beast. The basis of their stone industry was the tradition of obtaining plates and making a few tools from them (scrapers, piercers, etc.). Bone was also used, but it is rarely preserved in the cultural layer, – said Konstantin Andreev.

According to the obtained dates, scientists were able to establish that from about the middle of the 8th millennium BC, individual groups from more northern (forested) territories penetrated the forest-steppe Volga region, which led to the spread of chopping tools and a few arrowheads. Thus, the thesis about active contacts of different cultural groups in the forest-steppe is confirmed, and thanks to the conducted determination of the absolute time of existence of the region’s support complexes, it became possible to tie these contacts to a chronological scale.

In the future, Samara scientists plan to continue their collaboration with the NSU-NNC Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Collective Use Center, since the data obtained as a result of their joint work allowed them to significantly refine their understanding not only of the Mesolithic era, but also of later periods and cultures of the Middle Volga region.

Associate Professor of the Institute of Intelligent Robotics of NSU Petr Menshanov explained that modern archaeological research does not end with simply determining radiocarbon dates for found artifacts – scientists must reconstruct the course of events that took place in the distant past. To do this, they actively use machine learning and artificial intelligence methods that build chronological models based on dates obtained, among other things, by the Novosibirsk Center for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry.

    — Using a chronological model created using machine learning methods for radiocarbon dates obtained from the ancient Volga region, we determined periods of high and low activity for the Stone Age people who inhabited this territory. And then we compared the time boundaries of the activity of the people of the ancient Volga region with global data on climate changes that occurred on Earth after the end of the last ice age. It turned out that the ancient people who inhabited the Volga region in the Stone Age did not differ much in behavior from modern people. If the living conditions of our ancestors were satisfactory and stable, then they stayed in one place for a long time, fished, hunted, raised children. And with sharp climate changes, the ancient inhabitants of the forest-steppe Volga region preferred to change their “apartment” and move to more comfortable conditions, where there was still prey and water.

During the most difficult periods, ancient people actively invented and mastered the innovations of their time, which led to a change of eras. In our case, after the Global Cooling Event 8.2k, people of the ancient Volga region were forced to think about the future, – said Petr Menshanov.

Konstantin Andreev explained that the global cooling event of 8.2k had the most significant impact on the Mesolithic communities of the forest-steppe Volga region and led to the extinction of their cultural tradition. The Mesolithic people were replaced by new migrants, who, in addition to specific stone processing skills, also brought to the region one of the innovations of the next archaeological era (Neolithic) – ceramics.

Scientists are confident that further research will allow them to more accurately establish the course of events that influenced the life and everyday life of the ancient people of the Volga region, the Urals and Siberia in the Stone and Bronze Ages.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: The government has approved a six-year plan for road development

    Translartion. Region: Russians Fedetion –

Source: Government of the Russian Federation – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

By 2030, Russia plans to build and reconstruct more than 3.7 thousand km of highways. This is envisaged by the six-year road activity plan, which was approved by order of the Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. The document will become one of the main instruments for implementing the new national project “Infrastructure for Life”.

In 2025–2030, the country plans to build and reconstruct over 1,900 km of federal and 1,700 km of regional roads, including about 900 km of roads in rural areas. As part of the President’s instruction, the construction of 50 bypasses of populated areas on federal and regional highways will be completed by the end of 2030. In the new regions – the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, Zaporizhia and Kherson Oblasts – it is planned to restore highways with a total length of over 1,500 km.

Among the major projects announced in the plan are the construction and reconstruction of the following highways: M-2 “Crimea”, M-5 “Ural”, M-7 “Volga”, M-8 “Kholmogory”, M-9 “Baltia”, M-10 “Russia”, R-21 “Kola”, R-22 “Caspian”, R-217 “Caucasus”, M-4 “Don”, R-255 “Siberia”, R-258 “Baikal”, R-280 “Novorossiya”, R-504 “Kolyma”, A-121 “Sortavala”, A-181 “Scandinavia”, A-370 “Ussuri”.

The funding volume for the planned activities will amount to 9.2 trillion rubles.

“The Ministry of Transport must strictly monitor the expenditure of funds, the progress of work and the deadlines for their completion. After all, the accuracy of logistics and the comfort of citizens’ movement directly depend on this. And most importantly, it affects the safety of pedestrians and drivers, their lives and health,” Mikhail Mishustin noted at a government meeting on April 2.

As a result of the plan’s implementation, the share of federal highways, backbone roads and roads of the largest urban agglomerations that are in good condition should increase to 85%, and roads of regional or inter-municipal significance – to 60%.

“Approval of the road activity plan is a very important stage. It determines how we will work and develop the road framework of our country in the coming years. I would like to note that we have applied six-year planning for the first time. This will allow us to synchronize all the tasks that we face within the framework of the national project “Infrastructure for Life” until 2030 with the forecast until 2036, to tie everything into a single mechanism. The road plan is necessary for a broad understanding of the entire situation and comprehensive work. People do not care who is responsible for the road – federal, regional or municipal, but it is important to quickly and safely get there on good roads, without thinking about who they belong to,” said Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.

    The document will be published.

Dmitry Chernyshenko thanked Ricardo Cabrisas for the warm welcome of the Russian delegation in Havana and stressed that Russia expects the visit of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in May 2025. Earlier, the President of the Republic accepted an invitation sent on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“I would like to note with great satisfaction the regularity of the meetings of the intergovernmental commission. This allows us to work effectively to advance key issues on the bilateral agenda. We highly value the trusting and constructive political dialogue at all levels, including the highest. We intend to further strengthen Russian-Cuban relations in a wide range of areas: in the field of industrial cooperation, trade and humanitarian cooperation, exchange of experience and transfer of Russian technological developments, joint scientific research,” noted Dmitry Chernyshenko.

The Deputy Prime Minister spoke about the support provided to Cuba, including the emergency measures program to minimize the consequences of the energy crisis that occurred on the island at the end of last year.

In addition, according to Dmitry Chernyshenko, the educational sphere is an integral part of bilateral cooperation. Last year, over 60 agreements were concluded between Russian and Cuban universities. From 2023 to the present, eight open education centers for the study of the Russian language have been operating on the island. In 2024, Russian universities opened two geological classes in Cuban universities, as well as a Center for the targeted training of specialists in the field of energy and electronics. As part of the current visit of the Russian delegation, the work of the branch of the Southern Federal University in Havana will be launched.

It is planned to continue work on expanding the portfolio of bilateral investment initiatives, the total number of which currently exceeds 100. The Deputy Prime Minister also noted the resumption of deliveries of Russian cars to Cuba. In 2024, over 180 units of mechanical engineering products were exported to the island.

Within the framework of agro-industrial cooperation, a project for processing Russian wheat at a Cuban flour mill is being implemented for the second year in a row. The possibility of Russian business participation in the modernization of the sugar industry in Cuba is being considered.

The tourism industry continues to develop. In 2024, the Russian tourist flow to Cuba remained at the level of the record 2023 and amounted to 160 thousand people. At the same time, the number of Cuban citizens who visited Russia last year increased by more than 50%.

“To solve the challenges we face today, it is extremely important to have the support of reliable partners and allies, such as the Russian Federation. The current meeting of the intergovernmental commission is a suitable platform for studying the proposals that are on the negotiating table. I am confident that the meetings will yield concrete results that will help strengthen the relations between our countries,” said Ricardo Cabrisas.

On the Russian side, representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Digital Development, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture and other departments also took part in the meeting of the IPC.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: The Scarlet Sails graduation celebration won a prestigious award.

    Translartion. Region: Russians Fedetion –

    Source: Graduation Celebration “Scarlet Sails”

The Scarlet Sails Graduation Festival was recognized as the absolute winner of the XIII annual national award “Event of the Year”. The prestigious award was received in the nomination “Best Direction and Production of the Event” in the category “Innovative Solution of the Year”. The award ceremony took place at the Vladimir Mayakovsky Theater.

The Scarlet Sails graduates’ festival, which has become a calling card not only for St. Petersburg but for all of Russia, has once again confirmed its uniqueness and significance. This award once again emphasizes the highest level of organization and creative work of the team.

The Leningrad Graduation Ball appeared in 1968, and was discontinued in 1979. In 2005, on the initiative of Joint-Stock Bank “ROSSIYA”, the Government of St. Petersburg and Channel Five, the holiday was revived. A ship with scarlet sails reappeared in the waters of the Neva.

All this time, Channel Five has been providing its live television broadcast without fail. For several years in a row, Channel Five’s team has been organizing a colorful water-pyrotechnic show. The main director is Mikhail Kolpakhchiev. The production of the concert part on Palace Square is provided by the event agency “ERA”. In 2024, Vladislav Kabanov and Maxim Akhtyamova acted as directors.

Every year, the organizers of the legendary graduation try to surprise graduates and spectators, using innovative approaches and modern technologies. So last year, the stage complex used many technical means, lifting devices, platforms and suspended mechanisms, scenery hovering in the air, complex art objects. An unprecedented step by artists and designers is the high-altitude arrangement of multimedia screens and the creation of a wave-like non-linear form from them. This has never been done in the world before.

The shape of the structure itself was more airy and open compared to previous years. A minimum number of walls were used. This allowed increasing the viewing angle to 270 degrees. The stage had the shape of a tree with a huge crown, with which various metamorphoses took place. The organizers paid special attention to the lighting component of the concert. The audience was presented with unusual experiments in the form of clear synchronization of computer graphics on LED panels and physical effects of light beams, as well as the work of pyrotechnic devices during the performance of Russian pop stars.

The water-pyrotechnic show in the Neva River water area unfolded in ten locations. Under the salvoes of fireworks and a firefall, the audience, together with the heroes of the show, saw how true love is born and what power it has: it helps to overcome life’s trials. The culmination of the holiday was the appearance of the snow-white brig “Russia” with scarlet sails. A flock of dolphins gliding along the water, which accompanied the ship, added magic to the moment. They were flyboarders in luminous suits. During the final song “There are millions of us”, a crystal opened on the ship – a symbol of true love.

In 2024, the festival was seen by almost 37 million people worldwide. The live broadcast of the water-pyrotechnic show on Channel Five took first place in the federal broadcast in the key audience of the channel “All 25-59” with a share of 11.4%. Over the past 17 years, the festival has been watched by a record number of Russian TV viewers – 7.7% aged 25 to 59. The water extravaganza was also broadcast by other federal channels. Its combined share on the air of four channels is 26.6% in the audience over 18 years old.

The total television audience for the holiday in Russia and the CIS countries reached 25.5 million people.

The fifth also broadcast the legendary graduation online on its website and official social media accounts. In 2024, the show was watched online by 11.3 million people, which is almost 12% more than in 2023.

    Reference*

The Event of the Year award has been presented since 2011. During this time, it has gained an audience and fame among professionals in the event industry. The award traditionally identifies the best practices in Russia and covers all event formats, allows you to identify trendsetters and gives a well-deserved assessment of their achievements.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: “People often don’t understand what’s going on around them, but we can explain it.”

    Translartion. Region: Russians Fedetion –

Source: State University Higher School of Economics – State University Higher School of Economics –

Georgy Stalinov is engaged in field social research and created a video podcast in which guests talk about unusual social phenomena based on field materials. Episodes about garage workers, Anastasia residents, informal economy in the provinces, Orthodox parishes, and seasonal workers are already available. In an interview with the Young Scientists of the Higher School of Economics project, he told how he hitchhiked with truck drivers, why it is bad to work as a taxi driver, and whether poaching has been defeated in Kamchatka.

    How I got into science

Our program “Public and Municipal Administration” has the strongest group of field workers at HSE, that is, people who do field social research. My teachers Simon Gdalevich Kordonsky And Yuri Mikhailovich Plyusnin have been taking students of public and municipal administration to the fields since the 2000s to show how local government (LGU) works in a broad sense. This tradition has grown into a program of student expeditions “Rediscovering Russia“, through which I came to science. At first I became interested in the field part, and then in the methodological, theoretical and fundamental.

In my second year, as part of a course on MSU, I went to Lipetsk Oblast for three days and then began signing up for two-week expeditions “Discovering Russia Again” with our teachers. I became interested in social anthropology and entered a master’s program, also in public administration.

How Public Administration Relates to Field Research

In the Russian Empire, field research was started by government officials – officials on special assignments. The first socio-anthropological report can be considered the book “Description of the Land of Kamchatka” by Stepan Krasheninnikov, written in the 18th century. And then, for various reasons and in various circumstances, people affiliated with government departments traveled to study different territories, social and ethnic groups, territorial communities.

    What am I studying?

Communities, economic and labor practices, self-organization practices.

What was my first big study about?

A full-fledged social anthropologist/ethnographer/field researcher is someone who has implemented their own project. When I was a 4th-year student, the Khamovniki Social Research Support Foundation, which is closely connected to our Municipal Management Laboratory, was giving out grants to young researchers. Among the phenomena that interested the foundation were truck drivers. I chose this topic and received a grant.

Truckers in Russia are almost a blank spot. In the US, articles were written about truckers throughout the 20th century: about the problems of trade unions, the aging of the profession, self-organization, etc. We have all of this too, and it is also seasoned with a colorful story about the “Platon” toll collection system, but almost no one was interested in this topic.

To collect data, I started traveling with them. In total, I hitchhiked for about five weeks. I made arrangements on the road: at a truck stop, I approached people and asked them to take me with them. And in the cabin, I explained that I was conducting research, that I would write (at that time) a master’s thesis about truck drivers. We discussed their work, their lives, various things that happened around the road while we were driving. I would ride with one driver for a day or two and then transfer to the next one.

I also did research on the spot. For example, in Dagestan I studied truck drivers for three weeks. There are rural trucker communities there, there are funds from which they can help a trucker if he crashes, or help his family if he dies. And in one place we found that a lot of men leave the village during the period of active import of fruits from Azerbaijan and Iran, and the drivers pay for the work of the patrol service, which consists of their fellow villagers, so that everything is calm.

    What interested me most

Informal self-organization. An example is the black market for fuel, which exists on almost all federal highways. Truckers who work for large transport companies have their fuel paid for by their employers. And they can carefully drain it and sell it to another trucker – an individual entrepreneur.

My postgraduate dissertation is devoted to those connections between drivers, invisible to an outside observer, which constitute their mobilization potential. When the Platon system was introduced in 2015, thousands of drivers were able to coordinate in a matter of days outside the trade union, after which they created an alternative association. Subsequently, the tariffs for travel on federal roads were reduced from 4 to 1.5 rubles per kilometer, and so far the tariff has only increased to 3.34 rubles.

It would seem that drivers are loners and do not belong to teams like office and factory workers, but they are all connected informally, interacting daily at parking lots and gas stations, communicating via radio, exchanging information. Due to weak connections, they very quickly organized their structure throughout the country.

    What else am I studying?

I am quite closely involved in the study of nature management. This is everything related to fishing, gathering wild plants, and commercial hunting.

The largest commercial project I was involved in was researching fisheries in northern and western Kamchatka. We were looking into the issue of unaccounted salmon fishing (poaching) for domestic fishermen based in Kamchatka.

In total, we spent 3-4 months in Kamchatka in small villages, participated in fishing industries, lived in factories, interacted with fishery workers and those who prevent poaching. And traveled a little along the rivers. In particular, thanks to our research, industrial products received certification, and now they are exported abroad.

The international certification company imposes a number of requirements on fishery industry companies, which they must comply with. To do this, they must conduct an audit at their enterprises, and socio-anthropological studies in the fishing zones, which will show that poaching does not pose a risk to the population.

The volume that a commercial fisher can catch is calculated by ecologists based on how much can be taken from the population so that enough fish reach the spawning grounds to continue the species. If a commercial fisher takes this fish to the sea, and then the remainder that should spawn is caught by poachers in the river, then there will be no reproduction of the population. Therefore, it is necessary to assess the volume of informal fishing.

Over the past 20 years, opportunities for poaching have significantly decreased. In the 2000s, poaching in Kamchatka reached half of the total. Including due to the fact that industrialists were engaged in poaching. And then they were completely legalized and allowed to catch all the fish they wanted.

There is currently no anthropogenic threat specifically from poaching in Kamchatka. There are threats associated with industrialists, because not everyone has established fishing and processing processes. And potential harm is also associated with ore mining. Gold and platinum mining pollutes rivers so much that fish cannot survive there.

    What to see in Kamchatka

I am not going to leave Kamchatka, I will go there again. It is one of the exceptional regions on a global scale and the most unusual Russian region. I say this with knowledge of the matter, because I have been to many places: Altai, Yakutia, Primorye, the north of the European part of Russia.

Tourists who come to Kamchatka now don’t see much. Domestic flights in Kamchatka are very expensive. That’s why they are shown typical pictures: blue sky, green grass, volcano. They don’t know what the Koryak tundra and the raging April ocean, all in slush and ice floes, look like. Only rich tourist hunters and geologists who go on business trips see this.

For a mass tourist, visiting the agglomeration of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky will already be a stunning event. It is a small city surrounded by amazing nature. It is not necessary to go inland. You can surf the ocean, on Khalaktyrsky beach, famous for its volcanic black sand. Ride a snowboard from volcanoes, admiring Avacha Bay. See sea lions, which lie right in the center of the city. Go to Paratunka to swim in the equipped thermal springs.

What results I am proud of

My project on truck drivers, because I did it alone. I am also proud that our student reports on the HSE website attracted a cool project on Kamchatka to our team. I am proud that I started the channel “Anthropole“, which is interesting to a wide audience. In the popular science environment, sociology is very weak, losing out to economics, psychology, political science, history and all social sciences in general. Someone had to launch podcast about field research, and I did it.

I have a wide circle of colleagues. We all know each other well from conferences, and with some of them we worked together on expeditions. I invite them, they talk about their research. On camera, I mostly ask questions and rarely add anything from myself. But this is exactly what was needed so that people knew that we can also bring interesting and useful knowledge.

We can produce useful knowledge for business/the state. People often don’t understand what’s going on around them, but we can explain it — conduct ethnographic research and understand all the nuances. We are currently focused on applied projects. Last year, I did an autoethnography of a custom taxi: I registered on the platform, rented a car and worked as a taxi driver for several weeks, recording all my observations in a research diary.

What’s wrong with being a taxi driver

The aggregator encourages people to choose a specific schedule. To earn good money, a taxi driver must go to work at six in the morning, come home at noon, then go to work again at four in the afternoon and come home at night. Moscow rush hours are accompanied by high taxi prices, bonuses from the aggregator. Such a schedule implies life in the car. Despite the fact that you have four free hours during the day, you have nowhere to spend them. I was writing my research diary at this time. But what should an ordinary taxi driver do when his wife is at work and the children are at school or kindergarten?

He comes at night, goes to bed, gets up at 6am and doesn’t see his family either in the morning or in the evening. And the weekends are the busiest hours. And every day you have to pay the rent.

    What I dream about

I am focused on applied projects. When you are commissioned to do a study, you clearly understand who needs it and why. The Faculty of Social Sciences is shifting its focus from fundamental to applied research. I would like our lab to compete with research agencies and take the most interesting studies for ourselves, while simultaneously training students, involving them in research in the classroom and beyond.

Another direction is creative activity, which now inseparably accompanies all my work. This is education, blogging, video podcasts and non-fiction literature. I will write a book about truckers in the style of travel notes.

Science for me is an increase in knowledge. And a system of knowledge that is not absolute. We learn about the world and let our students learn about it. This is our mission. But we are not always right.

Sociology has no basis like Linnaeus’s plant classification system or Mendeleev’s table. We are constantly moving, constantly discussing how society works and whether it exists at all. For us, it is a continuous process of learning.

    If I hadn’t become a scientist

I would still be dealing with people. I worked in HR before I decided to stay at the university. But I didn’t really like it. I would probably end up becoming an entrepreneur because I value freedom and independence. Science and education give me a lot of free time that I can devote to my projects and initiatives. That’s what I like. I guess the only way to have that kind of freedom is in entrepreneurship. I could have become a writer. You can write not only books, but also scripts. I was always interested in cinema, but I somehow didn’t allow myself to step into that field at school. Maybe I would have decided to become a screenwriter or an actor.

Who would I like to meet?

With the greatest travelers, explorers and ethnographers – Nikolai Miklouho-Maclay, Fridtjof Nansen, Vladimir Arsenyev and others.

How my typical day is structured

My day starts with a walk with the dog. Then I can read, write something for the channel, organize a new video for the podcast. Luckily, I don’t have a routine, it would kill me.

Where will I go this year

I will have an expedition to the Arkhangelsk region, to the Pinezhsky district, to study wild plants. With my colleague Artemy Pozanenko We will go to the Irkutsk region to study a rural community that lives on fur trade. We will also go to Transbaikalia on a project of a colleague from the laboratory to find out how people surrounded by national parks interact with nature. In Yekaterinburg, we will shoot a video about the extraction of semi-precious stones in the Urals.

I also wanted to organize the shooting of a documentary film in Kamchatka for my blog, but have not found funding yet. On the west coast there lives a family that organized an enterprise for the collection and processing of fireweed, today every seventh Kamchatka resident drinks their tea. A very beautiful story: tea plantations, the perimeter of which is guarded by dogs and periodically drives away bears – I would like to film all of this.

There will be other trips for filming: Primorye, Vologda region, St. Petersburg, Kologriv, possibly Karelia. The project is financed by the Khamovniki Foundation, and we largely talk about the foundation’s projects.

    Do I get burnout?

Sometimes, when something gets boring, you have to go on an expedition. When I earn money, burnout also goes away very quickly. In fact, I just try not to bother. There was never a time when I was lying around and couldn’t do anything. On the contrary, I constantly had the feeling: something else needs to be done, something else needs to be thought up. At first, I had to do what my senior colleagues were doing: finish my master’s degree, become a teacher, publish an article. Then came the blog, the video podcast, the trips associated with it, working with the audience. Now, most of my attention outside of my duties is directed at it.

What am I interested in besides science?

I love good cinema. Mass cinema, not arthouse. I want to take part in film production someday, maybe in a documentary.

    What I read recently

“Debt: The First 5,000 Years of History” by David Graeber, “Life in the Void: Anthropological Essays on Social Space Beyond the Limits of Government Regulation” and “Love and Elections” by Lana Barsukova. The latter is a women’s novel, but it was written by a professor and doctor of sociological sciences, the book contains a lot of research material, although readers are unlikely to guess about it.

    Advice to young scientists

I would advise not to waste your time on empty, useless work, but to do only things with the prospect of developing yourself and the team. If you are not in the mood, go for a walk: the burnout will go away, useful thoughts will come.

We need to understand the system. Combine science, work with students, prospects for large grants and custom projects in one project.

You have to be enterprising. Otherwise, you do what other people say, and in science, doing what other people say is boring.

    Favorite place in Moscow

I love forests and parks. Once in Teply Stan I found a cow grazing with a calf in a field. And in Moscow I really like the nooks and crannies of Prechistenka. In general, I fell in love with Moscow after I moved there. I used to live in the Moscow region, and now I live on Vernadsky Avenue. When you can quickly get to the university and there is a park nearby, it is nice to live here.

The three most beautiful places I have seen on expeditions

The Vyvenka River, the third largest in Kamchatka. It is located in the north, where the Kamchatka Peninsula ends and the mainland begins. The Timan Ridge in northern Komi: hills, winding rivers and taiga. And also Podkamennaya Tunguska in Krasnoyarsk Krai.
