  • MIL-OSI Russia: Water performances and multimedia shows: what awaits guests of the Park of Light festival at the Northern River Terminal

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

The Northern River Terminal will host the “Park of Light” festival for the first time on July 4 and 5. The program includes light and multimedia evening shows, theatrical water performances, thematic installations, lectures, master classes and much more.

“We are developing transport sites as cultural facilities according to the task of Sergei Sobyanin. After a large-scale reconstruction, the Northern River Terminal has become a center of attraction for residents and guests of the capital. On July 4 and 5, the Park of Light festival will be held here for the first time, where visitors will be treated to themed installations, interactive entertainment and video projection shows on the facade and embankment of the station,” said Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry

    Maxim Liksutov.

Moscow is considered a port of five seas, because the capital is connected through a system of canals with the White, Baltic, Black, Azov and Caspian Seas. In this regard, the festival site will be divided into five thematic zones dedicated to history, art, technology, nature and emotions. At the same time, the entire park space, the embankment and the facade of the river station will become a single light installation. Light paths will pass between the thematic zones, which will symbolize rivers and canals.

Master classes and thematic lectures on the history of water transport, sailing and navigation, as well as the waterways that surround the capital will be held for city residents. In the evening, light shows will be shown on the facade of the Northern River Terminal and on the embankment. Guests will also enjoy a large-scale theatrical show on the water.

In addition, visitors will be able to take souvenir photos near the light installations, and the most active kids will receive gifts from the heroes of Moscow transport Rechkin, Metrosha and Electrobus.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: More than 28 thousand contracts with entrepreneurs from the regions have been concluded on the supplier portal

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

From January to May, capital city customers concluded over 28 thousand contracts with entrepreneurs from the regionsSuppliers portal. The total amount of contracts amounted to 7.2 billion rubles. This is 10.8 percent more than for the same period in 2024. This was reported by Maria Bagreeva, Deputy Mayor of Moscow, Head of the Moscow Department of Economic Policy and Development.

“Over 12 years of operation, the supplier portal has become an indispensable resource for businesses from various constituent entities of the Russian Federation. Over the first five months of this year, more than 28 thousand contracts worth over seven billion rubles were concluded with suppliers from the regions on the portal, which is almost 11 percent higher than the contracting volume for the same period in 2024. Most often, Moscow government agencies ordered construction, medical, household goods from the regions, including household appliances, as well as office supplies, communications equipment and software. Almost half of the contracts with regional suppliers fell into these categories,” said Maria Bagreeva.

Currently, the supplier portal has over 58 thousand state and municipal customers. Every day, about 1.5 thousand contracts are concluded on the platform. More than 90 percent of entrepreneurs on the site are small and medium-sized businesses.

“In early June 2025, the number of registered entrepreneurs on the supplier portal exceeded 375 thousand, since 2021 the figure has increased by 51 percent. The portal attracts businesses with the opportunity to supply their goods and provide services in different regions, as well as a high level of digitalization of processes and the efficiency of transactions. The key regions – suppliers of the capital in the first five months of this year were the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Ryazan, Nizhny Novgorod and Sverdlovsk regions. 17.2 thousand contracts worth 4.9 billion rubles were concluded with them. This is 61.4 percent of the total number of transactions with regional suppliers on the portal,” added the head of the Moscow City Department for Competition Policy

    Kirill Purtov.

You can register on the supplier portal in two ways: using email or an electronic signature. It is free. Simplified registration via email allows you to view information on the portal, but does not allow you to participate in purchases. You can tell about your products, services and work on the platform. The information will be available to all users, even those registered without an electronic signature.

As noted in the capital Department of Information Technology, regular updates and development of new services and tools of the platform optimize and improve the convenience of work on the supplier portal. For example, thanks to the automatic bid bot, entrepreneurs can effectively participate in several quotation sessions at the same time, the mechanism for determining the reference price in the product card helps to create competitive offers for the selected region, and the calendar reminds about important regulated deadlines for signing offers and contracts. The portal services make it an attractive and convenient tool that is chosen by entrepreneurs from all over the country.

The supplier portal has been operating since 2013. Last year, the volume of purchases on the platform reached 121.7 billion rubles, exceeding the 2023 figure by 20 percent. And in the first five months of 2025, customers have already made more than 237 thousand purchases worth 46.8 billion rubles.

Moscow’s contract system consistently demonstrates high efficiency. The capital is the leader inNational Procurement Transparency Rating. Thanks to the standardization of procedures, the introduction of digital technologies and the involvement of small businesses, the capital saves at all stages of public procurement.

The technical development of the supplier portal is supervised by the capital’s Department of Information Technology. The functional customer of the supplier portal is the Moscow City Department for Competition Policy.

Development of electronic services for business corresponds to the objectives of the national project “Data Economy and Digital Transformation of the State” and the regional project of the city of Moscow “Digital Public Administration”.

Natalia Sergunina, Deputy Mayor of Moscow.

The Priority: Digital Award has been presented since 2015. This season, participants sent more than 200 applications. The best of them were selected by industry experts.

“The first driverless tram in Russia, which we launched on behalf of Sergei Sobyanin, opened a new era of urban transport. This technology, unique to the whole world, belongs to the Moscow Government. And the SberTroika ticket system today operates in more than 30 regions of Russia. The recognition of these projects confirms the success of our strategy for the implementation and development of domestic IT solutions,” added the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry

    Maxim Liksutov.

The Moscow platform Mos.Oblako, which automates the work processes of city departments, won in the nomination “Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems”. Here you can plan a budget, keep accounting records, manage personnel and property. Mos.Oblako combines and structures data for all institutions, providing detailed analytics for making management decisions if necessary.

In the category “Infrastructure solutions for a smart city”, the Mos.Tech technology platform was the best. • MIL-OSI Russia: China Establishes Research and Cooperation Alliance on War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression Air Combat History

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: People’s Republic of China in Russian – People’s Republic of China in Russian –

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

BEIJING, June 26 (Xinhua) — To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, China recently established an Alliance for Research and Cooperation on the History of Air Combat in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

The decision was made at the first joint meeting of representatives of China’s memorial sites dedicated to aerial battles in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, which took place in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, East China.

The alliance was initiated by the administrations of 12 memorial sites across China dedicated to aerial combat in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, including the Nanjing Anti-Japanese War Airmen’s Martyrs’ Memorial Museum, the Eling Park Management Center in Chongqing City, southwest China, the Quzhou City Museum, east China’s Zhejiang Province, and the Kunming City Museum, southwest China’s Yunnan Province.

The alliance will carry out exchanges and cooperation mainly in the fields of inheriting and developing the spirit of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, promoting a correct view of the history of World War II, protecting historical archives of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, conducting research in topical areas, and strengthening efforts to train personnel to promote research in China on the history of aerial combat in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.

After the outbreak of China’s nationwide war against Japanese aggression, the Soviet Union was the first to provide China with air support. According to historical records, during the war, a group of Soviet volunteer pilots participated in 25 battles to defend the cities of Nanjing, Wuhan, Nanchang, Chongqing, Lanzhou and other areas of China, shooting down 539 Japanese aircraft and sinking more than 70 Japanese ships. Of these, more than 200 people died in China.

Let us recall that in November 2024, the Nanjing Anti-Japanese War Pilots’ Martyrs’ Memorial Museum for the first time fully published a revised list of 236 Soviet pilots who died in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. In May of this year, it again published updated data on 18 Soviet volunteers who died.

In addition, in Chongqing’s Elin Park there is a grave and a monument to two Soviet hero soldiers. The names of Storf and Katnov indicated on the monument are in fact the pseudonyms of Colonel Petr Lavrentyevich Skokov and Major Vasily Dmitrievich Kotolupenko, who died on May 1, 1941 and November 15, 1940, respectively.

According to incomplete statistics, there are about 20 memorial sites related to the aerial battles in China’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. They are mainly located in Jiangsu, Guangdong, Yunnan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Gansu, Chongqing, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the northeast region. -0-

NAIROBI, June 26 (Xinhua) — Kenyan President William Ruto called for calm and restraint after protests erupted in major cities of the east African country on Wednesday.

“I call on all citizens to renounce violence and the destruction of public property. We have only one Kenya to build and its progress depends on our collective restraint,” Ruto said.

  • E-Commerce to drive India’s $1 trillion digital opportunity by 2030: report

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

India’s online commerce sector, which stood at $30 billion in 2020, is projected to grow tenfold to $300 billion by 2030, playing a pivotal role in shaping the country’s $1 trillion digital economy, according to a new report released on Thursday.

The report by Bessemer Venture Partners highlights that online commerce is no longer a niche sector catering to a select few but has evolved into a dominant force within India’s retail ecosystem, serving an expanding and diverse consumer base.

“India presents a $1 trillion digital opportunity. The emergence of multiple consumer marketplaces, platforms, and new-age brands over the past decade reflects the growing aspirations of a rising India. This makes us exceptionally optimistic about the potential for many more consumer-focused ventures to emerge,” said Anant Vidur Puri, Partner at Bessemer Venture Partners.

According to the report, a “tailwind trifecta”—comprising rising internet penetration, evolving demographics, and supportive policy reforms—has laid the foundation for this growth. Going forward, the continued evolution of commerce marketplaces, content platforms, and consumer behavior will drive the next wave of innovation and opportunity.

Quick Commerce: A New Retail Frontier
India’s booming online commerce landscape has recently seen the rise of quick commerce (q-commerce), reshaping consumer expectations around delivery speed and convenience. Platforms like BigBasket, Blinkit, Swiggy, and Zepto are leading the charge, validating the demand for ultra-fast delivery models.

The report also points to the emergence of verticalised q-commerce, with startups such as Snabbit, Swish, and Slikk targeting niche consumer needs, further diversifying the sector.

D2C Brands and the Rise of Aspirational Consumers
India’s direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands are increasingly serving a mass-premium audience—consumers seeking high-quality, affordably priced, and innovative products. These brands are capitalizing on rising demand for goods that align with modern lifestyles and preferences.

    Content, Microtransactions, and Monetisation Trends
The report also underscores a “content revolution” in India, driven by growing demand for entertainment, education, and gaming content. With shorter attention spans and a wide range of accessible content across languages, genres, and price points, user engagement is surging.

Short-form video platforms, in particular, have seen 3.6X growth in daily active users over the past five years, competing directly with mainstream digital platforms.

Monetisation models are also shifting. The rise of UPI-based microtransactions, including virtual tipping and autopay subscriptions, is enabling new revenue streams for content platforms. This segment is expected to reach $1.5 billion by 2029, marking a significant shift from ad-based models to more diversified income strategies.

Wellness and Health-Driven Consumption on the Rise
Spending on organic food, protein supplements, fitness gadgets, preventive healthcare, and wellness services is on the rise. Health-focused food and beverage (F&B) consumption has increased from 11% to 16% of total F&B spending, with brands quickly adapting to this evolving demand, the report noted.

  • MIL-OSI New Zealand: EIT master’s graduate comes full circle after starting studies offshore

    Source: Eastern Institute of Technology

When Vanessa Santos first studied with EIT through a screen in the Philippines, she never imagined she would one day be sitting in one of those classrooms in person as the guest speaker.

The EIT graduate returned to EIT’s Auckland campus this month to speak to students in the Sustainable Organisations course that helped reshape her career direction and reignite a lifelong passion.

Vanessa Santos returned to EIT to speak to current students after graduating with a Master of Digital Business two years ago.

Vanessa began her Master of Digital Business in May 2021, studying online during the COVID-19 pandemic while borders remained closed.

After arriving in New Zealand in October 2022 with her husband Jeffrey, she completed her studies on-campus and graduated the following year.

“Just two years ago, I was one of those students, uncertain whether a mid-career pivot into sustainability was even possible. Being invited back to speak felt like a full circle moment.”

The 41-year-old’s path to sustainability wasn’t a straight one. With a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a background in human resources for IHG Hotels and Resorts, Vanessa initially worked in the corporate sector in the Philippines before shifting to freelance work with US-based clients in e-commerce, podcast production and various other digital projects.

“I’ve always been interested in tech. If I hadn’t gone into HR, I probably would’ve studied IT. Freelancing allowed me to explore that while building a flexible, remote career.”

She first visited New Zealand in 2012 with her husband and friends.

“We thought it would be a great country to live in. Our same friends actually moved here five years later and encouraged us to join them, but at the time we weren’t quite ready.”

Years later, a webinar about study options in New Zealand changed everything.

“EIT was one of the featured institutions. I was impressed by what they presented. I also had a friend who studied at EIT, so I thought, why not?”

It was during her studies at EIT that her passion for sustainability moved from personal lifestyle to professional goal. A paper on sustainable organisations, led by Associate Professor Dr Pii-Tuulia Nikula, became a turning point.

“She’s very inspiring. When she taught the class, it rekindled my passion for environmental sustainability and that’s when I thought that I wanted to try and pursue a career in sustainability.”

In February 2024, Vanessa joined Reclaim, New Zealand’s largest privately owned processor of recyclable materials, in a part-time communications role to help mark the organisation’s 50th anniversary.

She is now working full-time at the company as a Sustainability Advisor in Auckland.

Returning to EIT to share her story with current students felt “pretty special”.

“Back then, I didn’t know if I’d find work in a new country or if I could ever break into sustainability. To be able to stand there now, as someone who’s done it, it felt pretty special.”

Vanessa encouraged students not to be afraid of change or late pivots. “It’s never too late to pursue your passion.”

Associate Professor Dr Pii-Tuulia Nikula, School of Business, said: “It’s incredibly rewarding to see our EIT graduates step into professional sustainability roles and return to share their insights as guest speakers”.

“Vanessa’s experience is a testament to the transformative power of education. I’m humbled to have mentored her on this journey and look forward to celebrating her continued professional success in the years to come.”

  • MIL-OSI: Tryg A/S – Q2 2025 pre-silent newsletter

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

Tryg will conduct pre-close analyst calls and meetings starting on 26 June, ahead of the Q2 2025 results, which will be released on 11 July. This newsletter aims to inform capital market participants of the key factors influencing the company’s recent financial performance.

    Insurance revenue growth

Tryg maintains a balanced distribution of insurance revenue across the Scandinavian countries, with approximately 50% of revenue generated in Denmark, 30% in Sweden, and 20% in Norway. In Q2 2024, Tryg reported insurance revenue of DKK 9,545m.

The commercial segment will experience a smaller spillover effect into 2025 of the derisking of the corporate portfolio carried out in 2024. In general, the group revenue development remains in line with recent development. Tryg reported a growth measured in local currencies of 3.7% in Q1 2025.

When converting earnings from local currencies to DKK, Tryg’s reporting currency, the expected average value of SEK 100 is DKK 68.5 (64.5 Q2 2024), and NOK 100 is DKK 64.5 (64.2 Q2 2024).

    Claims environment

    Underlying claims development
Tryg operates a stable business and recent trends in underlying performance should thus be considered reliable indicators for short-term trends. The Group’s underlying claims ratio was 66.8% in Q2 2024. At the capital markets day (CMD) on 4 December 2024, Tryg mentioned that it expects a broadly stable to slightly improving underlying performance in the new strategy period towards 2027. In Q1 2025, the Group underlying claims ratio improved 30 basis points and the Private underlying claims ratio improved 10 basis points.

    Weather claims
For Q2, normalised weather claims amount to 10% of the annual DKK 800m guidance, equating to DKK 80m. As a reminder, the annual expectation for weather claims is split as follows (in percentages terms): 40% in Q1, 10% in Q2, 20% in Q3 and 30% in Q4. At the time of writing, weather claims expectations for the quarter remain in line with the guidance for the second quarter of the year.

    Large claims
On an annual basis, Tryg provides guidance for large claims amounting to DKK 800m, evenly distributed across quarters. Occasionally, information about large claims may be available in mass media or local press.

    Interest rates development
For Q2, it is expected an approximate discount rate of 2.5%. The discounting percentage was reported at 2.3% in Q1 2025.

    Run-off expectations towards 2027
    At the 2024 CMD, Tryg stated a long-term run-off expectation of ~2% towards 2027.

    Investment activities

Tryg has divided its investment activities into a match portfolio (approx. DKK 46bn at Q1 2025) and a free portfolio (approx. DKK 16bn as per Q1 2025). As announced at the 2024 CMD, the free portfolio was derisked during Q4 2024 and now mainly consists of Scandinavian covered bonds and government bonds (approx. DKK 12bn) and the real estate portfolio (approx. DKK 3bn). As a rule of thumb, the return on bonds can be modelled with the following Bloomberg tickers, 50% NYKRCMB2 and 50% NYKRCMG2. For the real estate portfolio, a normalised annual return of 6.5% is assumed. The buyback program of DKK 2bn started in December will impact the size of the free portfolio accordingly over the quarter.

The return of the match portfolio mainly consists of the return on premium provisions, which is expected at DKK 75m per quarter with the current level of interest rates.

Additionally, the line ‘Other financial income and expenses’ is guided at DKK -90m per quarter and mainly consists of costs related to currency hedges, general balance sheet items and costs related to running the investment operation.

    Other income and costs

Other income and costs are originally guided between DKK -350m and DKK -370m on a quarterly basis. This is primarily driven by amortisation of intangibles related to the RSA Scandinavia acquisition. The intangibles are booked in SEK and converted to DKK (the reporting currency of Tryg). The SEK strengthening experienced this year (while positive for the insurance service result and thus the overall Group result) impacts this line negatively, and therefore an additional FX-related impact of approx. DKK 15m should be added to the original guidance.

    Number of shares

At the end of Q1 2025, Tryg reported 607,059,826 outstanding shares. In the second quarter, Tryg bought back a total of 4,091,106 shares, thus lowering the number of outstanding shares during the quarter. The DKK 2bn share buyback programme ended on 19 June 2025.

Outlook statement from annual report 2024

Tryg reported an insurance service result, adjusted for the more favourable-than-normal large and weather claims outcome, of around DKK 7.2bn in 2024 and it is now targeting its highest ever insurance service result of DKK 8.0-8.4bn in 2027. The insurance service result is expected to increase gradually throughout the strategy period.

As announced in the newsletter dated March 2025, please note that 2024 financials have been restated due to changed inflation hedging. The newsletter can be found here: https://tryg.com/en/downloads-2025

Tryg will publish the Group’s Q2 results for 2025 on 11 July 2025 at around 7:30 CET.

    Conference call

Tryg will host a conference call on the day of the release at 10:00 CET. CEO Johan Kirstein Brammer, CFO Allan Kragh Thaysen, CTO Mikael Kärrsten and SVP Gianandrea Roberti will present the results in brief, followed by a Q&A session.

The conference call will be held in English.

  • MIL-Evening Report: As one of Shakespeare’s least performed plays, Coriolanus is startlingly relevant under Trump 2.0

Source: The Conversation (Au and NZ) – By Kirk Dodd, Lecturer in English and Writing, University of Sydney

    Brett Boardman/Bell Shakespeare

Coriolanus is one of Shakespeare’s least performed plays; perhaps because the hero is so pugnacious and classist, impressive in his strident vehemence, but lacking the vulnerability of a Macbeth or Othello.

Set in the turbulent early Roman Republic (490s BC) – about 450 years before Caesar’s death – the play follows the glorious rise of Gnaeus Marcius Coriolanus, a terrifying war machine on the battlefield who could carve his way through enemy regiments.

According to one site, the play has not been professionally staged outside the United Kingdom since 2000. This is only the second time Bell Shakespeare has performed Coriolanus, with their other production staged 29 years ago, in 1996.

Directed by Peter Evans and starring Hazem Shammas, this Coriolanus delivers Shakespeare’s most consciously political play with an explosive energy that charts the hero’s psychological downfall.

Published as a tragedy in the 1623 First Folio, Coriolanus can loosely be described as a history play. But it is more commonly recognised as one of Shakespeare’s Roman plays, alongside Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra, and Titus Andronicus.

    War and exile

Renamed “Coriolanus” after the town he most recently conquered (Corioli), occupied by the arch enemies of Rome (the Volsci), Coriolanus is a devoted son to his fiercely ambitious “tiger mum” Volumnia (Brigid Zengeni).

Shakespeare was never shy about the feats of his warrior protagonists, describing Coriolanus’ ability as a war machine most memorably as:

    His sword, Death’s stamp,
Where it did mark, it took; from face to foot
He was a thing of blood, whose every motion
Was timed with dying cries. Alone he entered
The mortal gate o’ th’ city, which he painted
With shunless destiny; aidless came off
And with a sudden reinforcement struck
    Corioles like a planet.

But Coriolanus, who was brought up to win every contest, is also an upper-class patrician, dismissively scornful of the common people’s plebeian rights in the burgeoning Roman Republic.

Hazem Shammas as Coriolanus is a force to be reckoned with.
    Brett Boardman/Bell Shakespeare

Coriolanus’s absolute refusal to flatter the plebeians – and so refusing their political influence – ignites a brutal conflict between populism and elitism that results in the people’s sway.

Coriolanus is exiled from Rome, the very homeland he fought so valiantly to protect.

Incensed, Coriolanus joins forces with Rome’s greatest enemy, the Volscian Aufidius (Anthony Taufa) and marches against Rome. This forces Coriolanus to confront his own loyalties to his formidable mother and to doting wife Virgilia (Suzannah McDonald), with tragic consequences.

    Wonderful performances

Evans has loosely set this production in Europe in the mid-1990s, following the fall of the Berlin Wall, though this creates a vibe more than a direct correlation to events.

Evans also designed the set, making dynamic use of a traverse stage that forces audiences to see each other across the divide. This enhances the sense of a sprawling populous while prompting reflections on our own political milieu. Audiences are told as they enter whether they will sit on the “plebeian” or “patrician” side: a fun ploy, but perhaps unnecessary.

Stealing the show is a wonderful performance by Peter Carroll as Menenius, a sagely Roman senator who uses his charm and political tact to mediate between the patricians and the plebeians. Carroll brings great irony to the role, using eye-rolls and tutting even as he attends dutifully to the new political expectations of the tribunes.

Peter Carroll as Menenius steals the show in a wonderful performance.
    Brett Boardman/Bell Shakespeare

The tribunes Sicinius (Matilda Ridgway) and Brutus (Marco Chiappi) are performed as shabbier left-wing agitators pitched against the conservative patricians in formal dark suits (costumes by Ella Butler). This makes familiar the political and class tensions, and the layers and dramatic dimensions explored by Shakespeare.

Zengeni brings tremendous heart to Coriolanus’s mother, Volumnia. She is especially good at applying a tiger mother’s pressure of unrelenting standards. There is no doubt that the shining elitism of her son was roughly forged by her sharp expectations.

Shammas as Coriolanus is a force to be reckoned with. His rigid athleticism perfectly suits the superman heroics of this Roman warrior. His unabashed gesticulations are a welcome contribution to the sense of the lines he delivers.

The shabby dress of the tribunes pitches them against the conservative patricians in formal dark suits.
    Brett Boardman/Bell Shakespeare

Following a scene that ends with one of Coriolanus’s unleashed tirades against the plebeians, Shammas’ performance is so dynamic, and his invective so rigorously conveyed, it seems to remain on stage after he exits.

    A timeless tale

There is some reluctance to physically depict the pitched battle of Corioli, which falls a bit flat and misses an opportunity to heighten the dramatic stakes. But this production does very well to animate the complex political and familial drivers that compel Coriolanus toward his inevitable end.

As President Trump drops f-bombs because his real bombs did not make people do his bidding, this rare Shakespeare play becomes timeless.

There has always been need to explore the tragic consequences of leaders who subjectively refuse the offers of diplomacy. Bell Shakespeare’s choice of scheduling war plays this season offers countless ways to reflect on our own world, and the populations of real people connected to the decisions of those in power.

Coriolanus is at the The Neilson Nutshell, Sydney, until July 19, then touring to Melbourne.

Kirk Dodd does not work for, consult, own shares in or receive funding from any company or organisation that would benefit from this article, and has disclosed no relevant affiliations beyond their academic appointment.

  • MIL-OSI New Zealand: Passion for Computing leads student from Africa to EIT Hawke’s Bay

    Source: Eastern Institute of Technology

An interest in computing sparked by a South African teacher has led Terrence Charamba to pursue study at EIT in Hawke’s Bay after relocating to New Zealand with his family.

Terrence began his studies in July 2024 and is now nearing the end of his first year in the Bachelor of Computing Systems. The 23-year-old is pursuing a future in data analytics and says EIT has offered the practical foundation and support he was looking for.

EIT student Terrence Charamba is studying the Bachelor of Computing Systems and hopes to build a career in data analytics.

“I’ve always been curious about how computers work,” Terrence says. “But one of my teachers, who had studied computing herself, really encouraged me to take it further. That was the start of it.”

Originally from Zimbabwe, Terrence completed his schooling in South Africa before moving to New Zealand with his family. He says EIT stood out for its smaller class sizes and personalised approach to learning.

“I didn’t want to be just one of thousands. At EIT, it’s easy to talk to lecturers and ask for help, even outside of class. During study week we came in and they were there, ready to support us. That’s made a big difference.”

This semester’s paper on data concepts has been a highlight, aligning closely with his goal of working in data analytics or data engineering.

“It’s been practical and really relevant,” he says. “We’ve also had guest speakers from industry, including people who studied this same degree at EIT and are now working in the tech sector. That gives me confidence in the path I’m on.”

Terrence had previously begun study in networking systems after high school in South Africa but paused his studies when relocating. He says picking up his learning again in Hawke’s Bay was an easy decision.

“I didn’t want to stop learning. I wanted to continue, but with something that would lead to real opportunities.”

Now settled in Hawke’s Bay, Terrence says he appreciates the region’s climate and lifestyle and hopes to stay in New Zealand after graduating.

“The culture here is welcoming and the weather’s great. I’d love to build my future here.”
For those considering computing or tech-related study, Terrence says the support and structure at EIT make it a strong option.

“If you want to study something that matters and be in an environment where people want to help you succeed, this is a good place to start.”

Geoffrey Mather, Head of School of Computing, said: “Terrence has demonstrated resilience and commitment in his BCS studies and has built great connections with colleagues and peers alike”.

  • MIL-OSI Australia: Interview – Sky News with Kieran Gilbert

    Source: Murray Darling Basin Authority

KIERAN GILBERT: Let’s turn our attention to education. And the nation’s education ministers will hold their first gathering tomorrow since the Federal Election, that is. I want to go live to Adelaide. The Education Minister, Jason Clare, joins me.

A big part of the lead-up to the election. I know that you and the Prime Minister were focusing on the deals done with the states on education funding arrangements, those Gonski reforms, as they’re known. But you’ve said you want it tied to reform, what sort of thing are you talking about on that?

JASON CLARE, MINISTER FOR EDUCATION: Yeah, it’s important to make the point, this isn’t a blank cheque. The agreement that we’ve struck with every State and Territory over the course of the last 12 months represents the biggest extra investment by the Australian Government in our public schools ever. Something like an extra $16.5 dollars billion invested in our public schools over the next decade to finish the work that David Gonski started. But, I’ve been at pains to make the point that it’s not a blank cheque, that we want to tie this funding to real practical reforms, really to make sure that more kids finish high school.

Over the last decade, we’ve seen a drop in the number of kids finishing high school, particularly in public schools, from about 83 per cent down to 73 per cent, and we need to turn that around. And that requires reform not just at high school, but at primary school. One of the things we want to do is roll out a phonics check or a literacy check for kids in Year One, and that’s already underway, a lot of states are doing it this year, the others will roll it out from next year and that’s a 10 or a 15 minute check. It’s not a test, it’s not like NAPLAN, but it’s a tool for teachers to help, to make sure that they know where the children in their classroom are at and whether they need more support. And the next cab off the rank is a numeracy check, a similar sort of check, a tool for teachers to make sure that children are up to speed, where they need to be in Year One when it comes to numeracy adding up and counting.

Now, New South Wales have rolled out a pilot this year for about 169 schools of a check they’ve developed and they’ll roll that out across all public schools next year. We’re going to have a chat tomorrow about whether other states might be willing to pick that up as well next year.

GILBERT: One of the other things I know that’s been out and I’m very interested, I think a lot of parents will be very keenly awaiting this bullying review. Give us an update on where that’s at. Will that be before the ministers tomorrow? Because, as you well know, this is something that everyone’s ultra sensitive about, particularly when you’re talking about social media these days and all the risks inherent with that.

CLARE: I think that’s the big difference between what bullying was like when we were kids at school and what it’s like now. Bullying is cruel. It doesn’t just leave physical scars, it can leave invisible scars that can last a lifetime. And we’re not just talking now about push and shove in the playground or stealing someone else’s lunch money. At its most insidious, we’re talking about people using AI and deepfakes where they might take a photograph of a friend at school or someone at school, cut and paste their face and put it on the naked body of someone else and then splash that across the internet. And the impact of that can be extraordinarily harmful. We’ve seen recent examples of this applied to fellow students, but also to teachers and this review about what we do to tackle bullying in our schools needs to look at that as well as what happens actually in the school grounds. We’re never going to stamp it out entirely, but what this is about is making sure that where we can prevent it, we do. And what are the right responses for schools where there’s evidence of this sort of bullying happening.

GILBERT: And on the issue of childcare centres, there have been reports recently about the mistreatment of children in care. I know that personal phones, for example, have been banned from childcare centres. What other reforms would you look at now off the back of this New South Wales response, led by New South Wales? But are you wanting to make it national and what other things you’re putting in place to ensure kids in childcare are receiving the protection they need as well?

CLARE: Yeah, this is really serious. There’s more than a million families who’ve got their kids in childcare and early education at the moment. And the number one priority is to make sure that their children are safe. This is personal for me. I’m one of those parents who have my children in early education and care.

In response to the arrest of that serial paedophile in Queensland a couple of years ago, we introduced some significant changes, including the banning of personal phones in childcare centres and beefing up, toughening up mandatory reporting, making that a requirement within 24 hours of where a serious event has occurred. But Four Corners had a report earlier this year which exposed some pretty terrifying and horrific examples of abuse in centres. In response to that, we announced that we’ll introduce legislation into the Federal Parliament that’s designed specifically to basically pull the money away from centres that aren’t up to quality standards or stop them from expanding, but also stop some of the bad actors that might be failing kids in childcare from then moving to another part of the care economy like the NDIS.

And when that Four Corners report came out, two more things happened; the national regulator was asked to provide us with advice on what further steps we need to take. And NSW commissioned their own review by a former Deputy Ombudsman of NSW, Chris Wheeler. He delivered his report that was released today that sets out a number of things that we could do better, including more information for parents and beefing up penalties. And Chris Wheeler, as well as the national regulator, Gabrielle Sinclair, will brief ministers on their reports tomorrow so that we can build a roadmap for further steps and more reform to make sure that we keep our kids safe in early education and care.

GILBERT: Yeah, indeed. And I know they’re a minority, but yeah, just ensure the dodgy operators do receive the appropriate penalties. Well, that’s good that that is a focus of that report.

I do want to conclude though, on tertiary education, there’s been a big focus on the salaries of Vice-Chancellors and suggestions that you might end up putting it in the hands of the remuneration tribunal as opposed to leave it up to university boards. What’s your thinking on that? Are you open to that?

CLARE: This is one of the things I’ve asked an expert council on university governance to look at. They’re going to report to education ministers when we meet in October in a couple of months’ time. On its face, it makes sense to me when you think about it when it comes to politicians or judges or public servants, the remuneration tribunal plays a role in setting salaries there. So, it is the sort of thing that does make sense on its face. But we’ll wait to see what this expert panel recommends. We’ve asked them to look at that, as well as wage theft in our universities and ways to improve governance of our universities, full stop. You know, our universities do terrific work and this is all about setting them up..

GILBERT: But it’s a way to ensure Vice-Chancellors pay doesn’t get out of hand.

CLARE: I think that’s right. It’s about meeting community expectations. But it’s just one part of improving the governance of our universities and to be fair to the leaders of our universities I think they get that, and they’re leaning into this reform to make sure that we’re setting our universities up for the future.

We’ve got data that we released yesterday that showed some good news that there are more Aussie students starting a degree at university this year than ever before when you take out those two COVID years, which are a bit of an anomaly. We think that we’re going to need more people in the years ahead to finish school and go to TAFE or go to university. So, more people going to university means universities are going to be even more important in the years ahead than they are today, and we’ve got to make sure that they’re fit for the future.

GILBERT: Education Minister Jason Clare, thanks for making the time ahead of that important roundtable tomorrow with your colleagues. Appreciate it.

    CLARE: No worries. Thank you.

At least 38 Palestinians were killed on Wednesday across the Gaza Strip by Israeli gunfire and airstrikes, according to medical sources, as Israel’s military reported the deaths of seven soldiers in combat in the south of the enclave.

Witnesses and local medics said Israeli forces opened fire on a crowd of Palestinians waiting near a U.S.-backed aid distribution point in the Netzarim corridor, in central Gaza. Al-Awda Hospital said it received 10 bodies, some unidentified, and treated 53 wounded from what it called a “direct targeting” of civilians waiting for food assistance.

In a separate incident, one person was killed and six others wounded by Israeli gunfire in the Al-Shakoush area, north of Rafah in southern Gaza, medical sources said.

Gaza’s civil defense said seven members of a single family, including women and children, were killed when an Israeli airstrike hit a building at a gas station in al-Shuja’iyya, east of Gaza City. It reported further casualties in strikes on Deir al-Balah, the al-Nuseirat refugee camp, and Jabalia, with at least 15 dead and others missing.

Another strike west of Gaza City, near the Ansar Government Complex, killed five people, including a woman and a child, and wounded several others, according to the civil defense.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military on the reported incidents.

Separately, the Israeli army said seven soldiers were killed on Tuesday when an armored vehicle was hit by an explosive device during combat in southern Gaza.

Israel resumed its military campaign in the enclave on March 18. Since then, 5,759 Palestinians have been killed and 19,807 others wounded, according to Gaza’s health authorities. The overall death toll since the war began in October 2023 has risen to 56,077, with 131,848 others injured, they said.

  • Trump says US to hold nuclear talks with Iran next week

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he would likely seek a commitment from Iran to end its nuclear ambitions at talks next week and credited U.S. strikes on Iran with bringing a swift end to the war between Israel and Tehran.

Trump said his decision to unleash huge bunker-busting bombs in Sunday’s attack had devastated Iran’s nuclear program and called the outcome “a victory for everybody”.

“It was very severe. It was obliteration,” he said, shrugging off an initial assessment by the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency that Iran’s path to building a nuclear weapon may have been set back only by months.

Meanwhile, anxious Iranians and Israelis sought to resume normal life after 12 days of the most intense confrontation ever between the two foes and a ceasefire that took effect Tuesday.

Speaking in The Hague where he attended a NATO summit on Wednesday, Trump said he did not see Iran again engaging in nuclear weapons development. Tehran has for decades denied accusations by Western leaders that it is seeking nuclear arms.

“We’re going to talk to them next week, with Iran. We may sign an agreement. I don’t know. To me, I don’t think it’s that necessary,” Trump said.

“I’ll tell you, the last thing they want to do is enrich anything right now. They want to recover,” he said, referring to Western accusations that Iran has been enriching uranium to near-weapons-grade purity.

Later on Wednesday, U.S. Central Intelligence Agency Director John Ratcliffe said in a statement that the U.S. air strikes had “severely damaged” Iran’s nuclear program, but he stopped short of declaring that the program had been destroyed.

The agency confirmed a “body of credible evidence” that several key Iranian facilities were destroyed and would take years to rebuild, he said.

Israel’s nuclear agency assessed the strikes had “set back Iran’s ability to develop nuclear weapons by many years”. The White House also circulated the Israeli assessment, although Trump said he was not relying on Israeli intelligence.

Trump said he was confident Tehran would pursue a diplomatic path towards reconciliation. The president gave no details on the discussions next week such as the venue and participants.

If Iran tried to rebuild its nuclear programme, “we won’t let that happen. Number one, militarily we won’t,” he said, adding that he thought “we’ll end up having something of a relationship with Iran” to resolve the issue.

The head of the U.N.’s nuclear watchdog, Rafael Grossi, dismissed what he called the “hourglass approach” of assessing damage to Iran’s nuclear programme in terms of months needed to rebuild as besides the point for an issue that needed a long-term solution.

“In any case, the technological knowledge is there and the industrial capacity is there. That, no one can deny. So we need to work together with them,” he said. His priority was returning international inspectors to Iranian nuclear sites, which he said was the only way to find out precisely what state they were in.

IRAN PRESIDENT HINTS AT DOMESTIC REFORMS

Israel’s bombing campaign, launched with a surprise attack on June 13, wiped out the top echelon of Iran’s military leadership and killed leading nuclear scientists. Iran responded with missiles that pierced Israel’s defences in large numbers for the first time.

Iranian authorities said 627 people were killed and nearly 5,000 injured in Iran, where the extent of the damage could not be independently confirmed because of tight restrictions on media. Twenty-eight people were killed in Israel.

Israel claimed to have achieved its goals of destroying Iran’s nuclear sites and missiles; Iran claimed to have forced the end of the war by penetrating Israeli defences.

Israel’s demonstration that it could target Iran’s senior leadership seemingly at will posed perhaps the biggest challenge yet for Iran’s clerical rulers, at a critical juncture when they must find a successor for Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, now 86 and in power for 36 years.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, a relative moderate elected last year in a challenge to years of dominance by hardliners, said it could result in reform.

“This war and the empathy that it fostered between the people and officials is an opportunity to change the outlook of management and the behaviour of officials so that they can create unity,” he said in a statement carried by state media.

Still, Iran’s authorities moved swiftly to demonstrate their control. The judiciary announced the execution of three men on Wednesday convicted of collaborating with Israel’s Mossad spy agency and smuggling equipment used in an assassination. Iran had arrested 700 people accused of ties with Israel during the conflict, the state-affiliated Nournews reported.

During the war, both Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Trump publicly suggested that it could end with the toppling of Iran’s entire system of clerical rule, established in its 1979 revolution.

But after the ceasefire, Trump said he did not want to see “regime change” in Iran, which he said would bring chaos at a time when he wanted the situation to settle down.

    RELIEF, APPREHENSION, EXHAUSTION

In both Iran and Israel, residents expressed relief at the end of the fighting, but also apprehension.

“We came back after the ceasefire was announced. People are relieved that the war has stopped, but there’s a lot of uncertainty about what comes next,” said Farah, 67, who returned to Tehran from nearby Lavasan, where she had fled to escape Israeli bombing.

In Tel Aviv, Rony Hoter-Ishay Meyer, 38, said the war’s end brought mixed emotions: relief that children could return to school and normal life resume, but exhaustion from the stress.

“Those past two weeks were catastrophic in Israel, and we are very much exhausted and we need to get back to our normal energy.”

  • MIL-OSI United Nations: Secretary-General’s message on the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking [scroll down for French version]

    Source: United Nations secretary general

The global illicit drug trade continues to exact a devastating toll: claiming lives, ravaging public health services, and fueling violence and organized crime.

Drug trafficking is tearing through communities with substances that are more potent, more dangerous, and more deadly than ever. Meanwhile, criminal networks prey on the most vulnerable – particularly women and youth – as they rake in hundreds of billions annually through the illicit drug trade.

This year, we shine a light on prevention as the most essential strategy for halting the flow of drugs that fuels organized crime worldwide.

We must reduce demand through investing in education, treatment, harm-reduction measures and care; target the machinery of production by eliminating illicit laboratories and offering farmers viable alternatives; and sever trafficking networks by strengthening global trade routes and choking the financial flows of criminal networks, while always ensuring respect for human rights.

Let us recommit to ending drug abuse and trafficking, uniting to dismantle criminal networks, and breaking the cycle of suffering and destruction once and for all.

    ***

  • MIL-OSI USA: Kustoff Honors Frederick W. Smith, Founder of FedEx, on House Floor

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative David Kustoff (TN-08)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman David Kustoff (R-TN) honored the founder, chairman, and CEO of FedEx Corporation, Frederick W. Smith, on the Floor of the House of Representatives.

Click here for a downloadable link to his speech.

    Remarks as prepared:

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor the life and legacy of Frederick W. Smith. Who left us this past Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the age of 80.

Mr. Speaker, if I were to stand and speak at this podium all day, I would barely be able to scratch the surface of Fred Smith’s extraordinary life, his influence on the country and the world, and his profound impact on the City of Memphis.

To many people, Fred Smith will likely be remembered as a titan of industry and the founder of FedEx. To my constituents, he will be remembered as a champion for the City of Memphis. Personally, I will remember Fred Smith as a man who loved his country and devoted his life to the American dream.

Born in Marks, Mississippi and raised in Memphis, he was very proud of his country. Fred Smith was a true patriot – serving honorably as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam. After that service, he returned home with a bold idea – a company that could deliver packages overnight around the world. Fred Smith turned that idea into a global enterprise: revolutionizing international supply chains, transforming how businesses operate, and changing how people connect.

Fred Smith not only directed and dominated the modern logistics industry, he created it. For more than 50 years after the conception of FedEx, he continued to lead it.

Today, FedEx operates in over 220 countries, but its heart and headquarters remain in Memphis, Tennessee. Through FedEx, Fred Smith turned Memphis into a global logistics hub – driving economic growth across the region, while employing tens of thousands of Tennesseans. Today, the FedEx world hub at Memphis International Airport is one of the busiest and largest cargo airports in the world. FedEx is the largest Fortune 500 company in the state of Tennessee.

Fred Smith’s commitment to Memphis went far beyond business. In fact, upon Fred’s passing on Saturday, former Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland said, “Fred Smith was the most significant Memphian in history. He gave them a fair shot at their American dream and his philanthropic work helped support countless organizations”.

Thanks to Fred Smith, Memphis acquired the NBA’s Grizzlies in 2001 when he committed to purchasing the naming rights for the future home of the basketball team: the FedExForum. Two years ago, when the University of Memphis was ambitiously pursuing stadium upgrades for the football team, Fred Smith and his family committed $50 million to help the school achieve its financial goals.

Fred and Dianne Smith, and the Smith family, have donated to so many worthwhile causes in the Memphis area, including the world-class Memphis Zoo. Memphians can also thank Fred Smith for saving the FedEx St. Jude Golf Championship when it lost its previous title sponsor.

Yesterday, when discussing the life of Fred Smith, I talked with my good friend, Chris Richards. She was the General Counsel at FedEx and a close advisor to Fred Smith. A little over 25 years ago, Fred came to Chris with an idea he told her she would not like. He wanted FedEx to be involved in a major motion picture in which the plot involved crashing a FedEx plane. Fred thought that the script for “Cast Away” was a great read and could be a good movie that benefited the company.

As FedEx’s lead attorney, Chris told Fred there had never been an airline who willingly participated in a movie where they gave permission to crash their plane. Chris advised against all of it, but Fred wanted to think outside the box. He signed off on the idea. He was really impressed with the production staff and the movie star, Tom Hanks. That would be important years later.

At the request of former Senator Bob Dole, Fred became involved in the creation and fundraising of a World War II memorial to honor and remember our nation’s Greatest Generation. Fred would become a major factor in getting that memorial constructed. It would cost a lot of money to raise and build such a monument, but as a result of that movie, Fred turned to his friend, Tom Hanks, for his help and public support to help raise funds for the memorial. Indeed, that movie ended up being good for FedEx, and in turn, good for the World War II memorial and our nation.

With his passing, we honor and celebrate a lifetime of inspiring service and leadership.

We celebrate a Marine, a Memphian, and a really good man.

To Dianne and the entire Smith family, Roberta and I mourn with you.

To our nation, we lost an innovator, a job creator, a trailblazer, and a leader.

We are all better off for the remarkable life that he led.

With that, Mr. Speaker, I yield back.

MATTESON, ILL. – U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly (IL-02) released the following statement recognizing Juneteenth, which marks 160 years since enslaved Black Americans were officially freed:

“Juneteenth is a powerful day to reflect on the progress Black Americans have made to overcome racial barriers. This country was built on the backs of Black people, and then we continued to bleed and fight for our civil rights – from Selma to Little Rock to Pullman in Chicago.

“Right now, our basic rights are under attack by a king-wannabe in the White House who wants to erase our history, our legacy, and our civil rights heroes who died for our freedom. Our healthcare is on the chopping block, costs of living are too high, gun violence kills far too many, police brutality threatens public safety, and our immigrant neighbors live in fear of illegal deportation and detention. This Juneteenth, I bear in mind that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere – and we have work to do to achieve freedom for everyone.”

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly (Il-02) forcefully questioned Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. today as he appeared before the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee. She challenged his guidance change, announced through a video on X, ending COVID-19 vaccine recommendations for pregnant women and children.

“It is clear that Health Secretary Kennedy received no serious input from medical experts in his unilateral decision to reverse COVID-19 vaccine recommendations,” said Rep. Kelly. “What concerns me is his lack of care for the consequences of his decision. Pregnant women are especially vulnerable to COVID – we saw that firsthand just a couple years ago when maternal deaths spiked during the pandemic.  Vaccines are safe, effective, and the best medicine to prevent outbreaks.”

“Secretary Kennedy’s actions are proof that he is not fit for the job,” continued Rep. Kelly. “To the American people, take what Secretary Kennedy said to heart: do not take medical advice from him.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Kelly introduces bill to protect access to birth control

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Robin Kelly IL

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly (IL-02) introduced the Access to Birth Control Act, which would guarantee patients’ timely access to prescribed and over-the-counter birth control at pharmacies. Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade three years ago tomorrow, refusals in pharmacies to fulfill a birth control prescription or purchase have increased.

“Birth control is safe, effective, and essential for healthcare,” said Rep. Kelly. “No pharmacy employee or politician should weigh into such a private decision as to if or when to start a family. My bill removes barriers that obstruct a patient’s right to birth control so everyone can access birth control without intimidation, harassment, or discrimination.”

According to the National Women’s Law Center, pharmacists have refused to fill prescriptions for birth control or provide emergency contraception over the counter to patients in 26 states and the District of Columbia. These refusals are based on personal beliefs and can negatively impact a patient’s health. Additionally, these refusals disproportionately affect people of color, low-income people, LGBTQ people, and those who live in rural and other underserved areas.

The Access to Birth Control Act has over 40 original cosponsors in Congress. It has been endorsed by 10 organizations including the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the National Health Law Program.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Kelly rejects deadly cuts to Medicaid at health center

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Robin Kelly IL

Rep. Kelly, Cook County Health, healthcare leaders gathered at Blue Island Health Center to condemn the Republican tax bill

BLUE ISLAND, ILL. – U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly (IL-02) gathered elected officials, healthcare leaders and those who would be directly affected by Medicaid cuts at Cook County Health Blue Island Health Center.

“President Trump’s Big, Ugly Bill is deadly. House Republicans passed a bill that will rip away Americans’ healthcare, overwhelm emergency rooms, and close hospitals, threatening whole communities,” said Rep. Kelly. “I will continue to raise the alarm on all the harmful effects of this legislation. Healthcare leaders, public servants and community members are speaking out in one voice: cuts to Medicaid will cost people their lives.”

“Blue Island knows all too well what it means to lose a hospital and the impact it has on a community,” said Mayor Fred Bilotto of Blue Island. “Cuts to Medicaid would push more hospitals to the brink and strip essential care from those who need it most. We stand with Rep. Kelly in fighting to protect healthcare access and keep our communities healthy and strong.”

“People across the Southland and Illinois rely on Medicaid for access to health care, and I’ll continue to fight against this disastrous Republican bill,” said State Rep. Robert Rita (HD-28). “We cannot cut coverage and care for people who can least afford to lose it.”

“Study after study shows that uninsured people are more likely to forgo or delay necessary medical care due to cost, leading to advanced diseases and premature death. This means that instead of treating diabetes and high blood pressure we will end up treating more heart attacks and strokes,” said Dr. Erik Mikaitis, Cook County Health CEO. “Cuts to Medicaid will affect every health care consumer, not just those who rely on Medicaid for coverage. Costs to care for more uninsured and sicker patients end up coming full circle in all of our health care premiums, as well as Medicare and Social Security expenses. Reduced reimbursements will impact hospitals, doctors, and nursing homes, and potentially cause closures and service reductions, worsening access and wait times for everyone.”

“Being a healthy society means ensuring everyone can access care,” said Dr. Kiran Joshi, chief operating officer of Cook County Department of Public Health, and family medicine physician at Cook County Health. “Medicaid cuts don’t just affect individuals—they would destabilize entire communities, deepening health inequities and setting the stage for a public health crisis driven not by new diseases, but by the deliberate dismantling of access to care.”

The House-passed bill cuts Medicaid by $698 billion and would result in 16 million Americans losing healthcare coverage, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office report. Nearly half a million Illinoisans would lose healthcare coverage, including over 38,000 people in the Second District. The historic cuts to Medicaid would also lead to a rise of $1.3 billion in uncompensated care costs in Illinois, threatening nine at-risk rural hospitals in the state.

The second flagship office of “My Documents” in a residential area of the capital appeared next to the metro station “Teply Stan” in the South-West Administrative District seven years ago. Since its opening, more than 1.3 million citizen requests have been recorded.

One of the most popular services was the registration of property rights — it was used 160 thousand times. In addition, the service of issuing a driver’s license on the day of application is popular with residents. Over seven years, it was ordered 75 thousand times. The office provided the service of issuing a social card more than 67 thousand times.

In all flagship offices, city residents can receive unique government services that are not provided in district centers. Among them are vehicle registration, state registration of legal entities and individuals as individual entrepreneurs and peasant (farming) households, legalization of documents, as well as guardianship and trusteeship services.

Thus, at the flagship office of the South-West Administrative District, young Muscovites can receive their first Russian passport at a special presentation ceremony, and newlyweds can register their marriage in a non-ceremonial setting.

Additional services also do not go unnoticed by residents. For example, over eight thousand people used the “My Photo” service, having their ID photo taken by a professional photographer. More than 12 thousand city residents also contacted the “My Health” office.

In addition, in the office you can choose a travel package in the service “My Travel” and see the exhibition dedicated to outstanding figures of culture, science and history of our country.
