Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

Cargo throughput at ports in China rose steadily during the first four months of 2025, signaling continued resilience in the world’s second-largest economy despite external uncertainties.

The country’s cargo throughput at ports totaled 5.75 billion tonnes during the January-April period, up 3.7 percent year on year, data from the Ministry of Transport showed.

Container throughput, a leading gauge of trade health, increased 7.9 percent year on year during this period to reach 110 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), according to the ministry.

In April alone, the country’s cargo throughput at ports climbed 4.8 percent from a year earlier to 1.53 billion tonnes — with the pace of growth slightly down from an increase of 4.9 percent registered in March.

Separate data from the National Bureau of Statistics on Saturday revealed that China’s purchasing managers’ index (PMI) for the manufacturing sector had edged up to 49.5 in May from 49 in April, with the sub-index for new orders rising to 49.8 from 49.2 — as production accelerated and market expectations strengthened.

Communities across New Zealand marked the traditional Chinese Dragon Boat Festival over the weekend with vibrant celebrations in both Christchurch and Auckland, reflecting the enduring cultural heritage of this ancient festival.

The Dragon Boat Festival, celebrated annually on the fifth day of the fifth month in the Chinese lunar calendar, was recognized by UNESCO in 2009 as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

In Christchurch, a cultural event was held on Friday in commemoration of the festival, featuring traditional activities such as making zongzi, the sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves, cultural shows and games, and other customs symbolizing family unity, remembrance, health, and hope.

Chinese Consul General in Christchurch He Ying said the Dragon Boat Festival is deeply tied to Chinese values, and the tradition is rooted in the cultural respect for the past and hope for a better future.

“As we often say in China, ‘With many hands rowing together, the boat sails far.’ This spirit of unity is what brings us together today, to share stories, traditions, and goodwill across cultures,” she said.

Meanwhile, in New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland, the Epsom Community Center hosted a day-long celebration on Saturday with a variety of interactive workshops, performances, and cultural showcases, welcoming families to immerse themselves in traditional customs.

Activities included martial arts demonstrations, calligraphy and painting sessions, a dragon boat card-making workshop, and a lively lion dance performance.

Visitors also participated in hands-on experiences such as dumpling-making and face painting.

Dragon boat festival celebrations were also staged in other parts of Auckland as people celebrated locally with traditional food and cultural activities.

A dragon boat race event is also planned on Sunday in Eastern Auckland on the Tamaki River.

Organizers highlighted the growing enthusiasm for the festival among diverse communities in New Zealand, underscoring the importance of cultural exchange and mutual appreciation.

The festival has become a bridge for cross-cultural understanding, strengthening connections between communities and fostering a deeper appreciation of Chinese heritage in New Zealand.

“The Dragon Boat Festival is no longer just a Chinese event, it’s a celebration of unity and shared traditions among all people,” said an event organizer.

  • MIL-OSI China: Fiscal, financial reforms to boost China’s development zones: Expert

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

China’s national-level economic and technological development zones (ETDZs), long recognized as crucial drivers of economic growth and technological innovation, are set to undergo a significant upgrade, according to Luo Weijie, an economist focusing on macroeconomy and fiscal policies.

On May 21, the Ministry of Commerce released a work plan aimed at deepening reform and innovation in the country’s ETDZs. The plan outlines 16 targeted measures across four key areas, including encouraging foreign investment in sectors such as biomedicine and high-end equipment manufacturing, and supporting the export of digital services.

Luo Weijie, associate professor of economics at Beijing International Studies University, pointed out that the new fiscal and financial support measures for ETDZs are expected to play a greater role in driving economic growth, attracting investment and promoting innovation. Once in place, the measures will facilitate the ETDZs to achieve high-quality development and contribute to China’s broader economic strategy.

One of the key measures is supporting entities that are involved in the construction and operation of development zones in going public to raise funds. According to Luo, this will provide the entities with more capital to accelerate infrastructure construction and improve the carrying capacity of the zones. He cites the Suzhou Industrial Park’s development entity, China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park Development Group Co. Ltd.’s successful public listing on the A-share market, as a prime example of how such financing can provide robust support for the development of ETDZs.

Another measure outlined in the plan is providing more precise financial support to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) based on their contributions to innovation, which is important because SMEs frequently face difficulties in obtaining financing, despite often serving as the driving force behind innovation and job creation. Luo emphasized that through targeted financial support, these SMEs will have more resources to invest in R&D, technology upgrades and market expansion, thereby enhancing their competitiveness and contributing to the overall innovation ecosystem of the development zones.

The plan allows local governments to use special-purpose bonds and other funds more flexibly to support the development of national-level ETDZs. As such, local governments will be able to allocate these funds to key areas such as infrastructure construction, public service platforms and major industrial projects within the zones, which Luo explained will boost the overall investment environment and attractiveness of the zones. For instance, in the first three months of 2025, local governments in China issued new bonds worth nearly 1.24 trillion yuan, including around 960 billion yuan in special-purpose bonds. This kind of financial support can significantly boost the development of ETDZs by providing them with the necessary capital for projects that can drive economic growth and job creation.

In line with China’s commitment to green development, the plan encourages ETDZs to develop green financial services to support the growth of green, low-carbon and circular industries. By integrating green finance into the development of ETDZs, China aims to promote sustainable economic growth while addressing environmental challenges. According to Luo, this will not only help to reduce the carbon footprint of the zones, but also create new opportunities for green industries and technologies in the global transition toward a low-carbon economy.

On May 27, the State Council Information Office hosted a policy briefing on the work plan, providing detailed data regarding the achievements of the zones. At the briefing, Ling Ji, vice minister of commerce and deputy China international trade representative, highlighted the critical role that ETDZs are playing in opening up and development.

Ling pointed out that China has so far established more than 230 national-level ETDZs. In 2024, these zones collectively achieved $27.2 billion in actual foreign direct investment (FDI), or 23.4% of the national total, which demonstrates the significant role these zones play in attracting investment and driving economic growth.

As China continues to leverage ETDZs as key platforms for economic development, Luo anticipates that these zones will likely have a profound impact on both the domestic and global economic landscapes.

  • MIL-OSI China: China’s auto industry association warns against destructive ‘involution’ in NEV market

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) has announced an industry-wide initiative urging automakers to avoid disorderly competition in the country’s booming new energy vehicle (NEV) market.

The statement emphasized that while China’s NEV industry has seen rapid growth, with new energy vehicles accounting for over 40 percent of new car sales, the industry has experienced declining profitability recently, largely due to the rise of “involution-style” competition marked by disorderly price wars.

Continuous investment is essential to ensure product support and drive innovation, yet disorderly price wars are severely disrupting business operations, threatening the stability of industrial and supply chains, and dragging the sector into a vicious cycle, the CAAM said.

The CAAM noted that recent sharp price cuts, initiated by a major carmaker on May 23 and subsequently followed by others, have sparked market panic.

Such price wars, the association warned, are squeezing profit margins, undermining service quality, and putting the industry’s development at risk. They also endanger consumer rights and could lead to broader safety issues.

All companies should strictly adhere to the principles of fair competition, while leading enterprises should not seek to squeeze the space of other players for the purpose of gaining monopoly, the CAAM continued.

Apart from lawful price adjustments, firms must not sell their products below cost, engage in deceptive marketing practices, or disrupt market order in ways that harm the fundamental interests of the industry and consumers, according to the CAAM.

Companies are also encouraged to conduct self-inspections in line with relevant national laws and regulations, it added.

  • Trump pulls Musk ally’s NASA nomination, will announce replacement

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

The White House withdrew on Saturday its nominee for NASA administrator, Jared Isaacman, abruptly yanking a close ally of Elon Musk from consideration to lead the space agency.

President Donald Trump said he would announce a new candidate soon.

“After a thorough review of prior associations, I am hereby withdrawing the nomination of Jared Isaacman to head NASA,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social site.

“I will soon announce a new nominee who will be mission aligned, and put America First in space.”

Isaacman, a billionaire private astronaut who had been Musk’s pick to lead NASA, was due next week for a much-delayed confirmation vote before the U.S. Senate. His removal from consideration caught many in the space industry by surprise.

Trump and the White House did not explain what led to the decision.

“It may not always be obvious through the discourse and turbulence, but there are many competent, dedicated people who love this country and care deeply about the mission,” Isaacman said in a post on X.

“That was on full display during my hearing, where leaders on both sides of the aisle made clear they’re willing to fight for the world’s most accomplished space agency.

“I am incredibly grateful to President Trump, the Senate and all those who supported me.”

His removal comes days after Musk’s official departure from the White House, where the SpaceX CEO’s role as a “special government employee” leading the Department of Government Efficiency created turbulence for the administration and frustrated some of Trump’s aides.

    Semafor reported the news earlier.

According to a person familiar with his reaction, Musk was disappointed by Isaacman’s removal.

“It is rare to find someone so competent and good-hearted,” Musk wrote of Isaacman on X, responding to the news.

It was unclear whom the administration might tap to replace Isaacman.

One name being floated is retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant General Steven Kwast, an early advocate for the setting-up of the U.S. Space Force and Trump supporter, according to three people familiar with the discussions.

Isaacman, the former CEO of payment processor company Shift4, had broad space industry support but faced concerns from lawmakers over his ties to Musk and SpaceX, where he spent hundreds of millions of dollars as an early private spaceflight customer.

The former nominee had donated to Democrats in prior elections. In his confirmation hearing in April, he sought to balance NASA’s existing moon-aligned space exploration strategy with pressure to shift the agency’s focus on Mars, saying the U.S. can plan for travel to both destinations.

As a potential leader of NASA’s roughly 18,000 employees, Isaacman faced a daunting task of implementing that decision to prioritize Mars, given that NASA has spent years and billions of dollars trying to return its astronauts to the moon.

On Friday, the space agency released new details of the Trump administration’s 2026 budget plan that proposed killing dozens of space science programs and laying off thousands of employees, a controversial overhaul that space advocates and lawmakers described as devastating for the agency.

Montana Republican Tim Sheehy, a member of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation committee, wrote on X that Isaacman “was a strong choice by President Trump to lead NASA” in response to reports of his departure.

“I was proud to introduce Jared at his hearing and strongly oppose efforts to derail his nomination,” Sheehy said.

Some scientists saw the nominee change as further destabilizing to NASA as it faces dramatic budget cuts without a confirmed leader to navigate political turbulence among Congress, the White House and the agency’s workforce.

“So not having (Isaacman) as boss of NASA is bad news for the agency,” Harvard-Smithsonian astronomer Jonathan McDowell said on X.

“Maybe a good thing for Jared himself though, since being NASA head right now is a bit of a ‘Kobayashi Maru’ scenario,” McDowell added, referring to a no-win situation cadets face in the science fiction franchise Star Trek.

    Source: Government of India (4)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday virtually inaugurated the newly constructed Satna Airport and the upgraded Datia Airport in Madhya Pradesh, marking a major step towards enhancing regional connectivity and infrastructure development under the UDAN scheme.

The inauguration events were held simultaneously at both airport sites in the presence of state and local officials. The development is expected to significantly benefit the Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand regions by providing improved access to air travel and boosting regional growth.

Satna Airport: A New Regional Hub
Developed by the Airports Authority of India at a cost of ₹36.96 crore, the Satna Airport is designed to serve as a key regional hub in the northeastern part of Madhya Pradesh. Known for its cultural and industrial importance, Satna will now have enhanced connectivity to important centres such as Chitrakoot and Maihar.

The airport features a terminal building spread across 768 square metres, capable of handling 50 passengers during peak hours and accommodating up to 2.5 lakh passengers annually. The facility includes a recarpeted runway, parking bays for Dornier-228 aircraft, an Air Traffic Control tower, and a fire station.

The airport is equipped with sustainable features such as 100% LED lighting, solar-powered streetlights, and a treated water reuse system for horticulture.

Datia Airport: Boosting Religious and Cultural Tourism
The upgraded Datia Airport has been developed at a cost of ₹60.63 crore. It connects the historic town of Datia—known for the Peetambara Peeth and the Datia Palace—to the national aviation network.

The terminal building, also measuring 768 square metres, can accommodate 150 peak-hour passengers, with a projected annual capacity of 2.5 lakh passengers. The airport is currently equipped to operate ATR-72 aircraft, with future plans to support Airbus A-320 operations.

Key infrastructure includes a recarpeted runway, apron bays, ATC tower, and firefighting facilities. Sustainability measures such as rainwater harvesting systems and energy-efficient lighting have also been incorporated.

    Driving Economic and Social Growth
The operationalisation of both airports is expected to bring considerable economic and social benefits, including enhanced mobility, job creation, and growth in sectors such as tourism, hospitality, retail, education, and healthcare.

The projects reflect the Government of India’s commitment to making air travel accessible to all, as envisioned under the Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN) scheme, and to ensuring balanced regional development by strengthening last-mile infrastructure.

  • MIL-OSI China: Top amateur golfer Zhou wins third CLPG Tour title in Xiamen

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

Zhou Shiyuan, China’s top female amateur, captured her third CLPG Tour title against a pro field on Saturday, when the Chongqing teenager carded a four-under 68 to win the Zhu Chun Strait Cup Women’s Open by two strokes in Fujian Province.

After starting the third round with a one-stroke lead at Orient (Xiamen) Golf and Country Club, the 15-year-old, 43rd in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, closed with a bogey-free round featuring four birdies to finish on 10-under 206.

At 15 years, five months and 14 days old, Zhou becomes the youngest person to win three times on the CLPG Tour. She broke the previous record set by Yin Xiaowen who was 16 years, five months and 15 days old when she won the Wuhuanxing Women’s Challenge on May 22, 2021.

“Many people have congratulated me, saying that winning three times is incredible and that I have a bright future. But I feel like I’m still the same person. Nothing has changed,” reasoned a humble Zhou.

“Even though I broke Yin Xiaowen’s record, I don’t think much of it. Yin is an outstanding player who’s already competing on the US LPGA. Though I don’t know her well, I respect her greatly.”

Jeong Seulgi claimed the RMB 75,000 winner’s purse as the South Korean veteran carded her fifth birdie of the day at the last hole to finish with a 67, one shot ahead of Chinese amateur Wang Xinyu (65).

Thai veteran Sherman Santiwiwatthanaphong (70) was fourth, four shots back, at the tournament featuring a field made up of CLPG Tour and TLPGA Tour players in an event created to promote “friendship” across the Taiwan Strait.

Zhou, who last year won in Chongqing and Jiangsu Province, opened with consecutive birdies to quickly get to eight-under. She picked up another stroke at the 405-yard sixth before making her last birdie at the 375-yard 10th hole. She would then par the final eight holes.

She called this victory “harder” than her previous two wins.

“This time, I felt tense throughout. My form in the first half of the year wasn’t great, especially in handling small details. The pressure was real in this event because the Thai players were chasing me hard,” said Zhou, who is considering turning pro at the end of the year.

“But I’ll assess my form first. I also hope to play in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur again. This year’s tournament left me with regrets. I missed the cut. Next time, I want to make it to the weekend and compete alongside the world’s top amateurs. I want to learn from them.”

Jeong, who won a Monday qualifier for a second time this year to get into the tournament, started the final round three shots off the lead and came out firing with birdies on the first three holes. She then picked up another shot at the 372-yard ninth hole before sinking a 25-foot birdie putt at the last to secure the runner-up finish.

“I felt I had a chance to win. Lots of great shots today, but I need more birdies,” said the former KLPGA Tour regular. “But it’s great for me. It’s a good finish. I’m not disappointed. I gave it my best efforts today.”

Guangdong-based Wang secured a top-five finish for the third consecutive tournament with a scorching final round featuring an eagle three at the 488-yard second hole where her approach shot from 114 yards out found the cup followed by five birdies.

“I’m certainly very pleased with this finish, especially since I played the final 36 holes without a single bogey. My game was solid overall today. Both my iron play and putting were on point,” said the 17-year-old Hunan native, who matched her personal best lowest score.

“My goal is to earn my professional status by year’s end. For the second half of the season, I’m aiming for a tournament victory, that way I can bypass the qualifying school process altogether.”

Rookie pro Wu Chun-wei crashed out in her CLPG Tour debut as the 2024 Asia-Pacific Women’s Amateur champion was never in contention this week, closing with 79 to finish 58th.

  • MIL-OSI China: UNICEF launches campaign to empower children as climate leaders

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

The “Step Up for Climate” campaign is launched in Beijing, May 30, 2025. [Photo provided to China.org.cn]

UNICEF launched a six-month climate awareness campaign in Beijing on Friday aimed at encouraging Chinese children and adolescents to adopt low-carbon lifestyles and take active roles in addressing climate change.

“Children are least responsible for climate change and the most affected by its impacts. But the right support is available. And children have the power to lead change,” said Amakobe Sande, UNICEF representative to China, during the launch ceremony of the “Step Up for Climate” campaign.

The initiative, jointly organized by UNICEF China, the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (NCSC), the Center for Environmental Education and Communications of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (CEEC), and the Chinese Meteorological Society, will focus on empowering youth to become climate leaders at home, in schools and throughout their communities.

Sande emphasized the increasing impact of extreme weather events on children’s health and well-being, as well as the growing risks for pregnant women. She highlighted UNICEF’s global and local initiatives to address these challenges, including efforts to reduce carbon emissions and prepare children to adapt to a changing climate.

“UNICEF is working with China’s Ministry of Education to integrate green skills into technical and vocational education,” she noted. “We are also collaborating with the Ministry of Ecology and Environment to advocate for the incorporation of a child focus in the China National Climate Change Health Adaptation Action Plan (2024-2030).”

Ding Ding, deputy director of the NCSC, spoke about the critical role young people play in tackling climate change.

“Young people possess a keen awareness of global issues and a strong sense of responsibility,” she said, adding that rather than passively experiencing the impacts of climate change, they should actively shape solutions with their creativity, vitality and unique perspectives.

Yan Shidong, director of the CEEC, noted that the initiative supports both China’s carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals and serves as an essential platform for youth participation in global climate governance.

“In recent years, university environmental groups in China have consistently developed innovative climate solutions,” Yan said. “At COP29 in Azerbaijan, Chinese youth delegates shared the story of China’s ecological civilization, presenting solutions inspired by Chinese wisdom.”

During the launch event, young climate advocates showcased their projects. Student Ye Lisiqi introduced a school-based carbon market that rewards students with carbon credits for sustainable actions. The program includes competitions both within and between schools and has already cut carbon emissions by 880 kilograms.

The “Step Up for Climate” campaign will run for six months, continuing through COP30, the 30th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

  • MIL-OSI China: China’s railway travel surges as Dragon Boat Festival holiday begins

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

China’s railway network is expected to handle 17.8 million passenger trips on Saturday, the first day of the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, according to the national railway operator.

To meet the surge in travel demand, a total of 1,029 additional trains have been scheduled on Saturday, said China State Railway Group Co., Ltd., adding that 15.78 million passengers were transported on Friday, with operations running smoothly and safely.

Top destinations include Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Zhengzhou, the railway company said.

  • MIL-OSI China: China vows to tackle “involution-style” competition in auto sector

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said Saturday it will intensify efforts to tackle “involution-style” competition in the country’s auto industry, vowing to strengthen oversight and safeguard a fair and orderly market environment.

The announcement came after the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) launched an initiative calling on companies to maintain fair competition and foster healthy industry growth.

In response, the MIIT voiced support for the proposal and warned that recent disorderly price wars have significantly disrupted normal business operations and posed a threat to the industry’s healthy and sustainable development, according to an official with the ministry.

Noting that while the ministry encourages enterprises to reduce production costs through technological and managerial innovation and deliver higher-quality and cost-effective products to consumers, the official stressed that disorderly price cuts undermine research and development investment, erode product and service quality, and may even lead to safety issues that harm consumer rights.

Such competition is a classic case of involution, the official said, adding that it will only weaken the momentum for industry development over time. “There are no winners in a price war, nor is there any future,” the official warned.

To address the issue, the MIIT will ramp up efforts to rein in involution-style competition in the auto sector. Measures include promoting industrial structure upgrades, strengthening random inspections for product consistency, cooperating with relevant authorities in combating unfair competition, and adopting necessary regulatory actions.

The official also called on companies to enhance their innovation, improve their product quality and service, and fulfill their social responsibilities.

The CAAM earlier announced an industry-wide initiative urging automakers to safeguard fair and orderly competition in the country’s booming new energy vehicle (NEV) market.

The statement emphasized that while China’s NEV industry has seen rapid growth, with NEVs accounting for over 40 percent of new car sales, the industry has seen declining profitability recently, largely due to the rise of involution-style competition marked by disorderly price wars.

The CAAM noted that recent sharp price cuts, initiated by a major carmaker on May 23 and subsequently followed by others, have sparked market panic.

All companies should strictly adhere to the principles of fair competition, while leading enterprises should not seek to squeeze the space of other players for the purpose of gaining monopoly, it said.

Apart from lawful price adjustments, firms must not sell their products below cost, engage in deceptive marketing practices, or disrupt market order in ways that harm the fundamental interests of the industry and consumers, according to the CAAM.

  • MIL-OSI China: Chinese medical team, peacekeepers donate essentials to orphans in South Sudan

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

The 12th batch of the Chinese medical team, in partnership with the 11th Chinese peacekeeping infantry battalion in South Sudan, on Friday donated essential goods to orphaned children at the Confident Children out of Conflict (CCC) Orphanage.

The group donated milk powder, mosquito nets, maize flour, washing powder, books, school bags, soap, flip-flops, tables, and chairs, among other items.

Robert Bida Samson, executive director of the CCC, a charity organization, said support from the Chinese medical teams over the past years has helped ease the burden of taking care of these children.

“The Chinese medical teams have stood with the CCC, making sure that all the children receive medical services, screening them both here at the center and also in Juba Teaching Hospital when the sickness is too serious,” Bida said during the donation ceremony in Juba, the capital of South Sudan.

The ceremony, held under the theme “One Sky One Dream,” coincided with the celebration of the 100th visit of the Chinese medical team to orphanages in South Sudan.

Established in 2007, the center is home to orphans, abandoned children, and survivors of revenge attacks and gender-based violence.

Bida commended the regular visits by the Chinese medical team, noting that these are critical to their longstanding partnership, which has empowered many vulnerable children at the center.

“Some of these children are soon finishing school. I urge that through your empowerment, some of them could get employed at Juba Teaching Hospital to share responsibility with you,” he said.

Gift Gibson Natana, deputy director general at Juba Teaching Hospital, commended the Chinese medical team for their dedication to providing medical services to orphans and communities in remote areas.

“These programs benefit tens of thousands of vulnerable people,” Natana said.

The 12th batch of the Chinese medical team, prior to visiting the CCC, also visited Juba Orphanage and Rock City Orphanage.

Liu Hongyong, commander of the Chinese peacekeeping infantry battalion to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), expressed hope that the support provided to the children would empower them to realize their future dreams.

“We wish the children of the orphanage a joyful International Children’s Day. May this contribution add color to their lives and wings to their dreams. May they grow up healthy and strong,” Liu said.

Huo Ying, deputy chief of mission at the Chinese Embassy in South Sudan, expressed her gratitude to the Chinese medical team and the Chinese peacekeeping force for their contribution toward peace and development in South Sudan.

“These contributions made by the Chinese medical team have been a valuable legacy in bilateral friendship,” Huo said.

She noted that the Chinese peacekeeping forces are participating in the UN peacekeeping operations in South Sudan, while the Chinese medical team is protecting the public health security of the South Sudanese.

Huo also commended the contributions of Chinese companies toward the development of South Sudan, stressing that the Chinese people will always be the friends of the South Sudanese people.

Washington – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas) visited Sierra Vista, Arizona yesterday to tour the Joint Task Force-Southern Border Command offices, thank members of Kansas’ own 1st Infantry Division from Fort Riley, participate in tours along the southern border, receive briefings, and take an aerial tour of the border near Arizona with several Kansas law enforcement officials.
Below are photos from Senator Marshall’s visit. Click HERE and HERE for b-roll videos.

From left to right: Sheriff Billy Tomasi, Director Brian Peete, Sheriff Jeff Easter, Sheriff Scott Braun, Senator Roger Marshall, Chief Karl Oakman, Director Tony Mattivi, and Chief Courtney Leslie.
“Having visited the southern border multiple times under the Biden-Harris Administration, I witnessed chaos, lawlessness, and a system overwhelmed by over 10 million illegal crossings –including individuals on the FBI’s terrorist watchlist,” said Senator Marshall. “But during my most recent trip, the difference was clear. Since President Trump returned to office, we’ve already seen a dramatic shift with illegal border crossings dropping 93% compared to last year. What I’ve witnessed firsthand at the border proves that President Trump’s bold leadership is delivering results, and he is keeping his promises. To continue delivering on the President’s agenda, the Senate must pass the ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ – legislation that will provide critical funding our border agencies need to keep America safe.”
Since President Trump took office in January 2025, the number of illegal immigrant crossings at the southern border has dropped dramatically. In April 2024, there were 128,900 crossings at the border, while in April 2025, there were only 8,400.
The Kansas law enforcement officers who accompanied Senator Marshall included Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) Director Tony Mattivi, Director of the Riley County Police Department Brian Peete, Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeffery Easter, Crawford County Sheriff Billy Tomasi, Ellis County Sheriff and Kansas Sheriffs’ Association President Scott Braun, Hugoton Police Chief and Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police President Courtney Leslie, and Kansas City, Kansas Police Chief Karl Oakman.
“I was honored to join Senator Marshall and several sheriffs and police chiefs in experiencing firsthand the challenges at our southern border,” said KBI Director Tony Mattivi. “We know every fentanyl pill sold in Kansas is trafficked by Mexican drug cartels through this border. Every single pill that kills a Kansan enters the country here, so we must continue the fight to keep dangerous and violent criminals out.”
“Senator Marshall champions law enforcement and public safety efforts. He understands the unique role the Riley County Police Department plays in protecting national security and operational readiness because of our ties to NBAF and Fort Riley,” said Riley County Police Department Director Brian Peete. “This opportunity has helped the department forge new strategic plans and procedures to keep our county safe from narcotic and human trafficking, as well as foreign terrorist organizations. My sincerest thanks to both he and his team.”
“The experience was very informative. It was amazing to me to see what 4 years of an unsecured border looked like and the issues it created for the United States,” said Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeffrey Easter. “This trip highlighted the absolute cooperation between the U.S military, Border Patrol, and the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office. These men and women are on the front lines protecting Kansans from the fentanyl and methamphetamine scourge that has gripped Sedgwick County. I am very appreciative of Senator Marshall inviting me to observe and understand the situation at our border.”
“We’ve learned where it’s coming in from, we’ve learned where it’s being transported to, and this is a hub where it’s coming out of,” said Crawford County Sheriff Billy Tomasi. “Like I told the voters when I came on, that I am going to learn about this and I’m going to start taking it off the streets, and that’s my goal. And I appreciate the opportunity from Senator Marshall allowing me to come down here with him to learn this, to bring back to our community.”
“Our visit to the Arizona border with the dedicated military – including soldiers from Fort Riley –and border agencies, was eye-opening. The fight against illegal immigrants and the deadly flow of fentanyl is real.  It’s happening on the ground, and it’s impacting Kansas communities every day. The brave men and women on the front lines deserve our full support as they work to protect our borders and save lives back home,” said Hugoton Police Chief and Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police President Courtney Leslie. “I am extremely grateful to Senator Marshall and his staff for the opportunity to see firsthand the fight against the cartels that are trafficking fentanyl across our border daily. The fight against these cartels is not just a border issue – it is a fight for the safety of every Kansas community.”
“I would like to thank Senator Marshall for the opportunity to see firsthand the great work being done by our men and women of law enforcement, border patrol, and the military,” said Kansas Police Chief Karl Oakman. “Eliminating drug smuggling is still a major challenge at the border, and additional resources are needed.”
    Background:

Senator Marshall spoke out against Joe Biden’s reckless border policies continuously during his four disastrous years in office, calling it the “number one” most immediate national security threat.
Senator Marshall supports President Donald Trump’s ‘One, Big Beautiful Bill,’ which includes the largest border security investment in history, empowers ICE to deport the millions of illegal immigrants who entered under the Biden-Harris Administration, and provides funding for at least one million annual removals.
Recently, Senator Marshall reintroduced the Justice for Angel Families Act, legislation that would amend the Crime Victims Fund (CVF) to expand financial coverage for Angel Families – the immediate relatives of victims killed by illegal aliens.
In 2024, he introduced legislation the Demanding Citizenship in D.C. Elections Act, which would require anyone who votes in a municipal election in the District of Columbia to be a U.S. Citizen and require proof of citizenship.
In 2024, Senator Marshall also went to the Senate Floor demanding the immediate passage of his resolution declaring an invasion at the southern border.
In an op-ed for FOX News in 2019, then-Congressman Marshall detailed his border visit with fellow doctors in Congress stating, “Our systems are simply overwhelmed, and there appears to be no break in the near future… until we build a wall, and until we turn off the laws that only serve as magnets, all the money in the world will not have a huge humanitarian impact.”

  • MIL-OSI Asia-Pac: Smart devices slash water waste

    Source: Hong Kong Information Services

With the launch of the Water Smart Taskforce Programme, the Water Supplies Department (WSD) is on track this year to save a large amount of precious water with the use of smart meter readers and data analytics.

The department knows that water is an integral part of our daily lives given that each Hong Kong resident currently consumes an average of about 130 litres of water per day.

    Detecting waste

In order to strengthen the promotion of water conservation, the WSD has commissioned the Centre for Water Technology & Policy at the University of Hong Kong to carry out the programme, from February this year until early next year.

The department is inviting about 1,000 domestic and non-domestic customers of high water consumption in phases to join the programme that enables a taskforce to conduct detailed “water-usage check-ups” for such customers, helping them to understand their water consumption habits.

According to department’s big data analytics, about 1% of domestic customers account for over 15% of the city’s total domestic water consumption.

WSD Senior Engineer (Water Conservation) Peter Fung explained how the programme detects such water wastage.

“To analyse the causes for high consumption, the taskforce uses a smart water meter reader with high precision and artificial intelligence (AI)-powered technologies to analyse customers’ water usage data. For example, the taskforce can identify whether domestic water usage is mainly for cooking, laundry or showering, and compare these findings with the averages of other households.”

He highlighted that the programme will help customers understand their water usage habits or even identify potential leaks, enabling them to take early and appropriate actions to reduce their water bills. The programme aims to reduce water usage by 500,000 cubic metres this year, which is equivalent to 200 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

    Precision diagnostics

Customers participating in the programme will engage in an eight-week water conservation campaign. The taskforce will install smart water meter readers on the existing meters, without requiring any pipe modifications or affecting the water supply. The data will then be transmitted to the University of Hong Kong (HKU) for AI-driven analysis, detecting abnormalities and potential leaks.

HKU’s Centre for Water Technology & Policy Executive Director Fredrick Lee shared more information on how the programme works.

“In the third week of the water conservation campaign, we will make use of AI technologies to analyse the water usage data that we have collected by the smart water meter readers, and should we determine any abnormalities in the water usage pattern, we will make use of an algorithm developed in-house to look into the root causes and problems. We will give midterm reports with personalised water-saving advice to the programme participants and they can then change their water usage behaviour accordingly.”

By the end of the eight-week programme, final reports will be provided to the participants, from that they can understand clearly how their water conservation efforts are taking effect.

Mr Lee emphasised that among the first batch of the programme participants in the domestic sector, more than 80% of them were able to reduce their water consumption.

    Corporate participation

A company with three hotels, which consistently experiences high water consumption, has been invited to participate in the programme. The head of the company’s sustainability department believes the programme can help them to gain a more comprehensive understanding of their hotels’ water consumption patterns and distribution.

Property & Hotel Group Sustainability Department General Manager Amie Lai described their experience as a win-win once they put the programme to the test.

“The smart water meter readers continuously monitor the water consumption in the hotels, providing granular data for analysis and visualisation on the cloud platform. The system facilitates improvements and allows our colleagues to implement specific and effective actions promptly.”

She added that the programme empowers their hotels to uncover water-saving opportunities, slash utility costs and enhance sustainable water management, thereby advancing their sustainability goals.

  • MIL-OSI Global: Forecasters expect a busy 2025 hurricane season – a storm scientist explains why and what meteorologists are watching

Source: The Conversation – USA – By Colin Zarzycki, Associate Professor of Meteorology and Climate Dynamics, Penn State

U.S. forecasters with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are expecting an above-normal 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, with 13 to 19 named storms, and 6 to 10 of those becoming hurricanes.

But, how do they know what’s likely to happen months in the future?

I’m an atmospheric scientist who studies extreme weather. Let’s take a look at what Atlantic hurricane forecasts are based on and why those forecasts can shift during the season, which runs from June 1 to Nov. 30.

What goes into a seasonal forecast

Think of the preseason hurricane forecast as the 30,000-foot view: It can’t predict if or when a storm will hit a particular location, but it can offer insight into how many storms are likely to form throughout the entire Atlantic, and how active the season overall might be.

These outlooks rely heavily on two large-scale climate factors.

The first is the sea surface temperature in areas where tropical cyclones tend to form and grow. Hurricanes draw their energy from warm ocean water. So when the Atlantic is unusually warm, as it has been in recent years, it provides more fuel for storms to form and intensify.

Once water temperatures are 79 degrees Fahrenheit (26 degrees Celsius), hurricanes can form. Most of the Gulf was above that by late May 2025.
    NOAA/NESDIS

The second key ingredient that meteorologists have their eye on is the El Niño–Southern Oscillation, which forecasters refer to as ENSO. ENSO is a climate cycle that shifts every few years between three main phases: El Niño, La Niña, and a neutral space that lives somewhere in between.

During El Niño, winds over the Atlantic high up in the troposphere – roughly 25,000 to 40,000 feet – strengthen and can disrupt storms and hurricanes. La Niña, on the other hand, tends to reduce these winds, making it easier for storms to form and grow. When you look over the historical hurricane record, La Niña years have tended to be busier than their El Niño counterparts, as we saw from 2020 through 2023.

We’re in the neutral phase as the 2025 hurricane season begins, and probably will be for at least a few more months. That means upper-level winds aren’t particularly hostile to hurricanes, but they’re not exactly rolling out the red carpet either.

At the same time, sea surface temperatures are running warmer than the 30-year average, but not quite at the record-breaking levels seen in some recent seasons.

Taken together, these conditions point to a moderately above-average hurricane season.

It’s important to emphasize that these factors merely load the dice, tilting the odds toward more or fewer storms, but not guaranteeing an outcome. A host of other variables influence whether a storm actually forms, how strong it becomes, and whether it ever threatens land.

The smaller influences forecasters can’t see yet

Once hurricane season is underway, forecasters start paying close attention to shorter-term influences.

These subseasonal factors evolve quickly enough that they don’t shape the entire season. However, they can noticeably raise or lower the chances for storms developing in the coming two to four weeks.

One factor is dust lofted from the Sahara Desert by strong winds and carried from east to west across the Atlantic.

These dust plumes tend to suppress hurricanes by drying out the atmosphere and reducing sunlight that reaches the ocean surface. Dust outbreaks are next-to-impossible to predict months in advance, but satellite observations of growing plumes can give forecasters a heads-up a couple weeks before the dust reaches the primary hurricane development region off the coast of Africa.

Dust blowing in from the Sahara Desert can tamp down hurricane activities by shading the ocean over the main development region for hurricanes and drying out the atmosphere, just off the African coast. This plume spread over 2,000 miles in June 2020.
    NASA

Another key ingredient that doesn’t go into seasonal forecasts but becomes important during the season are African easterly waves. These “waves” are clusters of thunderstorms that roll off the West African coast, tracking from east to west across the ocean. Most major storms in the Atlantic basin, especially in the peak months of August and September, can trace their origins back to one of these waves.

Forecasters monitor strong waves as they begin their westward journey across the Atlantic, knowing they can provide some insight about potential risks to U.S. interests one to two weeks in advance.

Also in this subseasonal mix is the Madden–Julian Oscillation. The MJO is a wave-like pulse of atmospheric activity that moves slowly around the tropics every 30 to 60 days. When the MJO is active over the Atlantic, it enhances the formation of thunderstorms associated with hurricanes. In its suppressed phase, storm activity tends to die down. The MJO doesn’t guarantee storms – or a lack of them – but it turns up or down the odds. Its phase and position can be tracked two or three weeks in advance.

Lastly, forecasters will talk about the Loop Current, a deep river of warm water that flows from the Caribbean into the Gulf of Mexico.

When storms pass over the Loop Current or its warm eddies, they can rapidly intensify because they are drawing energy from not just the warm surface water but from warm water that’s tens of meters deep. The Loop Current has helped power several historic Gulf storms, including Hurricanes Katrina in 2005 and Ida in 2021.

The Loop Current stretched well into the Gulf in May 2022. The scale, in meters, shows the maximum depth at which temperatures were 78 F (26 C) or greater.
Nick Shay/University of Miami, CC BY-ND

But the Loop Current is always shifting. Its strength and location in early summer may look very different by late August or September.

Combined, these subseasonal signals help forecasters fine-tune their outlooks as the season unfolds.

Where hurricanes form shifts over the months

Where storms are most likely to form and make landfall also changes as the pages of the calendar turn.

In early summer, the Gulf of Mexico warms up faster than the open Atlantic, making it a notable hotspot for early-season tropical storm development, especially in June and July. The Texas coast, Louisiana, and the Florida Panhandle often face a higher early-season risk than locations along the Eastern seaboard.

These are generally the busiest areas during each month of hurricane season, but that doesn’t mean hurricanes won’t make landfall elsewhere.
    NOAA

By August and September, the season reaches its peak. This is when those waves moving off the coast of Africa become a primary source of storm activity. These long-track storms are sometimes called “Cape Verde hurricanes” because they originate near the Cape Verde Islands off the African coast. While many stay over open water, others can gather steam and track toward the Caribbean, Florida or the Carolinas.

Later in the hurricane season, storms are more likely to form in the western Atlantic or Caribbean, where waters are still warm and upper-level winds remain favorable. These late-season systems have a higher probability of following atypical paths, as Sandy did in 2012 when it struck the New York City region and Milton did in 2024 before making landfall in Florida.

At the end of the day, the safest way to think about hurricane season is this: If you live along the coast, don’t let your guard down. Areas susceptible to hurricanes are never totally immune from hurricanes, and it only takes one to make it a dangerous – and unforgettable – season.

Colin Zarzycki’s research lab receives funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

BEIJING, May 31 (Xinhua) — Chinese and foreign scientists have called on the global scientific community to unite and make greater contributions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by further exploring the frontiers of science and technology.

This was announced on Saturday in Beijing at a symposium on “Sustainable Development and Inclusive Cooperation: Responsibility of the Scientific Community,” organized in honor of the 70th anniversary of the academic departments of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

As ANC President Hou Jianguo noted, global challenges such as climate change, environmental pollution, resource scarcity and food security are becoming increasingly interconnected, and the opportunities and challenges of the new technological revolution are profoundly reshaping the landscape of global sustainable development.

He said that ANC, as a national scientific research institution of China, has been steadily enhancing its research activities in fields such as environmental conservation, life sciences, health care and energy technology for many years, exploring new ways and solutions to apply emerging technologies for sustainable development.

Looking ahead, Hou Jianguo stressed that the CPC will continue to adhere to the principle of opening up to the outside world, and work closely with partners and leading scientists around the world to deepen international cooperation in key research areas. He assured that the CPC will also expand talent exchanges and joint training, conduct consultative assessments on sustainable development, promote open data sharing to ensure sustainability, and harness the power of artificial intelligence (AI).

Reflecting on five decades of personal engagement with Chinese scientists and the development of institutional links between Australia and China, Australian Academy of Science President Chennupati Jagadish, for his part, highlighted the enduring power of inclusive bilateral and multilateral scientific cooperation.

He particularly noted the potential of science to overcome geopolitical boundaries and enhance global cooperation, especially in transformative areas such as quantum technologies and AI.

Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Sergey Chernyshev, in turn, stated that RAS gives priority attention to cooperation with China. According to him, future cooperation between RAS and ANC will be key to overcoming global challenges and strengthening bilateral relations.

International Science Council (ISC) President Peter Gluckman noted that the ISC has become a true leader in global science not only through its research contributions but also through its strengthened partnerships and commitment to science as a global endeavor.

As P. Gluckman pointed out, the WNC is also committed to promoting international scientific cooperation, protecting the principles of science and ensuring its further progress to solve global problems.

The event was attended by more than 60 people, including heads of national academies of sciences and responsible persons of international scientific organizations from 14 countries and regions, as well as domestic and foreign members of the ANC. –0–

  • MIL-OSI: PFM CRYPTO Launches New 2-Day XRP Cloud Mining Contract in Response to The Surge in Demand from Short-Term Income Investors

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

Farington, England, May 31, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Against the backdrop of a significant increase in demand for short-term crypto investment, PFM CRYPTO, a global cryptocurrency cloud mining platform, today announced the launch of its first 2-day short-term XRP cloud mining contract. The contract is open for a limited time from today until June 30, 2025, and each user is limited to one purchase, providing a new option for XRP investors who want to quickly obtain passive income.

As the practicality of the XRP ecosystem in the fields of payment and cross-border settlement continues to increase, more and more investors hope to achieve a balance between asset liquidity and returns without long-term lock-up. According to the latest report from Messari, the number of active addresses on the XRP chain increased by more than 18% in the first quarter of 2025, and short-term speculative capital inflows were obvious.

PFM CRYPTO said that the launch of this short-term contract product is the first time that the platform has tailored a mining strategy for “short-term investors”, aiming to provide a more flexible and low-threshold value-added method in the current volatile market. At the same time, PFM CRYPTO offers a limited-time bonus of $10 for each new user.

“We have observed that a large proportion of XRP holders are users who seek daily cash flow and quick returns,” said PFMcrypto’s product director. “This new contract not only meets their requirements for security and sustainability, but also captures the market’s blank spot for flexible cloud mining solutions.”

    Main features of the contract:

    • The cycle is only 2 days, suitable for short-term investment testing and quick arbitrage;
    • Daily income distribution mechanism to enhance liquidity;
    • Buy now and return reward mechanism to improve capital utilization efficiency;
    • Access to PFMcrypto’s global 20+ green energy mine network to achieve sustainable mining;
    • Zero threshold for operation, suitable for novices and experienced users.

    Industry trend background:

In recent years, crypto mining has been shifting from high-investment, high-threshold physical mining to a “lightweight, green” cloud service model. Especially in the context of ESG (environment, society, governance) standards continuing to affect the crypto industry landscape, cloud mining platforms with renewable energy capabilities are gaining more favor from investors.

PFMcrypto’s green mining network currently covers 190+ countries and regions around the world, all of which have passed third-party renewable energy certification, becoming one of the few mining platforms in the industry that has achieved “zero-carbon electricity input“.

    About PFM CRYPTO:

PFM CRYPTO was founded in 2018 and is headquartered in the UK. It is a technology platform that focuses on providing cloud mining and crypto asset management services. The platform has currently served more than 9.2 million users and continues to expand its global mining network, committed to building a “safe, transparent and environmentally friendly” next-generation cloud mining infrastructure.

    Registration and participation methods:

This 2-day cloud mining contract can be purchased through the official website. All contract users can start mining immediately after purchase, and the income is settled on a daily basis. PFMcrypto said that the product will only be open for a limited time in June 2025, and whether it will be continued in the future will depend on market feedback. Now visit [ https://pfmcrypto.net ], new users can get a $10 reward.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Cantwell, Colleagues Urge Additional Funding to Keep Communities Safe

    US Senate News:

Cantwell, Colleagues Urge Additional Funding to Keep Communities Safe
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and senior member of the Senate Finance Committee, joined 29 Senate Democratic colleagues in urging the Senate Committee on Appropriations to fund the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Hiring Program at a minimum of $270 million for Fiscal Year 2026.
In Fiscal Year 2024, six police departments in Washington state received a total of $3.75M to hire 31 police officers.
Amid a nationwide shortage of police officers, the COPS Hiring Program is critical for keeping communities safe and reducing taxpayer costs related to crime by providing funding directly to law enforcement agencies to increase their community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts.
“The COPS Hiring Program represents a fiscally responsible solution to ensure that our communities remain safe. CHP provides funds directly to law enforcement agencies to hire new or rehire additional career law enforcement officers and to increase their community policing capacity and crime-prevention efforts,” the lawmakers wrote.
“When officers establish a presence on their patrols using community-policing principles, they can develop positive relationships with the communities they serve.  In turn, these relationships increase law enforcement’s ability to solve local crimes and resolve public safety problems,” the lawmakers continued. “This proactive approach to policing prevents crime from occurring, saving taxpayers the high societal costs associated with crime, incarceration, and services for victims.”
Sen. Cantwell is a longtime champion of the COPS program and the Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants (JAG) program, which help equip and enable local law enforcement to address drug trafficking.
The National Fraternal Order of Police, National Association of Police Organizations, the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, and the Major Cities Chiefs Association support the Senators’ funding request.
Led by Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-NM), the letter was also signed by U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV), Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), Tina Smith (D-MN), Raphael Warnock (D-GA), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Mark Warner (D-VA), Angus King (I-ME), Ron Wyden (D-OR) Michael Bennet (D-CO), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Brian Schatz (D-HI), Jack Reed (D-RI), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Chris Coons (D-DE), Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Andy Kim (D-NJ), Richard Durbin (D-IL), Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), Ed Markey (D-MA), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Alex Padilla (D-CA), and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).
The full text of the letter can be found HERE and below:
Dear Chairman Moran and Ranking Member Van Hollen:
As you consider funding levels for Fiscal Year 2026, we urge you to fund the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Hiring Program at a minimum of $270 million.
The COPS Hiring Program represents a fiscally responsible solution to ensure that our communities remain safe. CHP provides funds directly to law enforcement agencies to hire new or rehire additional career law enforcement officers and to increase their community policing capacity and crime-prevention efforts. When officers establish a presence on their patrols using community-policing principles, they can develop positive relationships with the communities they serve.  In turn, these relationships increase law enforcement’s ability to solve local crimes and resolve public safety problems.  This proactive approach to policing prevents crime from occurring, saving taxpayers the high societal costs associated with crime, incarceration, and services for victims.
To date, the COPS Office has been appropriated more than $20 billion to advance community policing including grants awarded to more than 15,000 state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies to fund the hiring and redeployment of more than 136,000 officers. In 2024, the program awarded 235 grants across all 50 states and the District of Columbia. In total, the program allowed for the funding of 1193 officer positions. COPS Hiring plays an essential role in our federal government’s support for local law enforcement and should therefore receive the highest possible level of funding.
We are supported in this request by law enforcement organizations including the National Fraternal Order of Police, National Association of Police Organizations, the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, and the Major Cities Chiefs Association.  We appreciate the hard work and leadership that you have shown on these issues. Ongoing crime and violence across the country demonstrates the vital need for increased police protection in our communities.  Therefore, as you determine the funding levels for this program, we ask that you support funding for the COPS Hiring Program at the highest possible level.
Thank you for your consideration of this request.

  • MIL-OSI Europe: ASIA/PAKISTAN – “Justice, peace, truth: the Jubilee for Christians in Pakistan”

Source: Agenzia Fides – MIL OSI

    Diocese of Islamabad-Rawalpindi

Islamabad (Agenzia Fides) – “We are living in critical times in Pakistan, where everything seems at risk. The economy is in a difficult situation, the cost of living has skyrocketed. At a social level, people are very worried: Christians are among the poorest segments of the population, who are suffering the most. Unemployment is high, and people are emigrating. In a situation where everything seems negative, the Jubilee of Hope brings us back to the heart of the faith and gives us consolation,” says Fr. Asif John Khokhar, Vicar General of the Diocese of Islamabad-Rawalpindi and National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Pakistan, in an interview with Fides, where he also shares how the country’s Catholic communities are living the Jubilee Year.In Pakistan, according to the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, all dioceses, parishes, and communities have organized spiritual initiatives aimed at people of all walks of life, adults and children. “People,” he emphasizes, “are trying to fully embrace the spirit of the Jubilee: This time leads us to convey hope, and we fully recognize ourselves in this expression. In the challenges of each day, amidst difficulties, poverty, and suffering, we are pilgrims of hope, that is, we walk through them carrying Jesus Christ in our hearts.””Today, the Pakistani faithful look in particular to Pope Leo XIV, who, with his particular attention to the Church’s social teaching, offers us three words: justice, peace, and truth, which encourage us to penetrate to the heart of the Gospel,” the Catholic priest said. “We believe that his words and his teaching will have a significant impact on our situation: he emphasized the Church’s social teaching, and for us Christians who find ourselves in a minority situation, we adhere to the three words he emphasized – justice, peace, and truth – in order to be able to live in our context.”Father Asif explains: “We are ready to protect justice, which is the foundation of every nation. We believe and demand that justice and equality must be established and respected in all situations and at all levels in Pakistan. We believe and hope that everyone – the institutions, the religious leaders, and civil society – will promote this.”Regarding “peace,” he notes: “We are promoters of peace, within and outside the nation.” In this context, Father Asif particularly addresses the current tensions between India and Pakistan, which stem from the disputed region of Kashmir: “It is very sad to see violence, clashes, and deaths again. We must find a way to create a peace that respects the rights of both nations, with a lasting agreement that brings reconciliation,” he hopes, “because people, societies, and economies suffer from war. It is better to sit down at the table before war than after war.” “Furthermore, as Christians, as a small community, we are always promoting dialogue between communities, cultures, and religions, thus contributing to social peace in Pakistan,” he emphasizes.Regarding the Christian concept of “truth,” the National Director says: “We stand firmly by the truth of our faith, which gives us an identity in a country with an Islamic majority. As Christians, we proudly and humbly contribute to Pakistan. We love our homeland. No one can deny or dispute that we have been involved in building the nation from its very beginning and have made a significant contribution to its growth and development. We want to continue to make our contribution, and we do so in exemplary fashion through many educational and social projects, always working for the unity and harmony of the nation, for the prosperity and well-being of all.”Among the initiatives that give new hope to Pakistan’s believers, the Vicar General said, is the laying of the foundation stone for a new church dedicated to the Holy Rosary in Gujrat, in the Diocese of Islamabad-Rawalpindi. In recent days, Archbishop Joseph Arshad presided over the celebrations, as the local community celebrated the faith event, praying in particular “for the progress, stability, and peace of Pakistan.” The archbishop expressed his gratitude to God and the local authorities for making it possible to build a new church for the community in Gujrat, which is home to “a vibrant, educated, and competent Christian community,” with many young people who wilol be able to “contribute to the development of their families and the nation.” (PA) (Agenzia Fides, 31/5/2025)

  • MIL-OSI USA: Safeguarding Long Island’s Public Hospital

Source: US State of New York

overnor Kathy Hochul today announced four appointments to the newly restructured Board of Directors for the Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC), which oversees the Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC), Nassau County’s only public hospital. The appointments coincide with the implementation of a new state law, taking effect June 1, 2025, that significantly reforms NHCC governance, enhances state oversight and sets a path forward for strengthening NUMC’s financial and operational stability. Governor Hochul also designated Stuart Rabinowitz, Esq., former President of Hofstra University and a longtime leader in higher education and public policy, as Chair of the Board.

“NUMC is a vital lifeline for so many on Long Island, and today we are taking long-overdue steps to ensure it has the leadership and oversight it needs to thrive,” Governor Hochul said. “These new appointments, and the new authority granted to the state and NIFA, will help ensure accountability, responsible fiscal management and high-quality care for the communities NUMC serves. Stuart Rabinowitz is a respected and visionary leader, and I can’t think of a better person to help lead this next chapter for NUMC.”

Nassau University Medical Center Board Chair Stuart Rabinowitz said, “NUMC is a critical safety-net institution that has suffered from years of dysfunction and mismanagement. I’m grateful to Governor Hochul for the trust she’s placed in me, and I’m eager to get to work with my fellow board members to restore public confidence, implement long-overdue reforms and put this hospital back on a path to stability and excellence.”

About the Governance Reforms Taking Effect June 1:

    • The NHCC Board of 11 members will include six appointed by the Governor (one each upon recommendation of the Assembly Speaker and Senate Temporary President), two by the Nassau County Executive, two by the majority of the Nassau County Legislature, and one by the minority.
    • The Governor will designate the Board Chair.
    • The Nassau County Executive will no longer have approval authority over the NHCC CEO.
    • The Nassau Interim Finance Authority (NIFA) will have enhanced oversight, including the power to approve NHCC contracts exceeding $1 million and, under specific conditions, the authority to declare a control period over NHCC.
    • NHCC is required to conduct and submit a study by December 1, 2026, exploring options to strengthen NUMC.

Governor Hochul’s two remaining appointments, one each recommended by the Speaker of the Assembly and the Temporary President of the Senate, will be announced in coordination with legislative leaders. From a high level, Trade 350’s pitch is simple: eliminate guesswork, automate trade execution, and maximize risk-adjusted returns. But ambitious marketing claims warrant a closer look—especially when unregulated brokers are notorious for opacity.

How Trade 350’s AI Engine Works
At the heart of Trade 350 is a multi-layer neural-network engine trained on years of historical price data, technical indicators, and real-time sentiment signals (social media trends, news headlines). Key components include:

    1. Data ingestion layer
      • Feeds: Tick-level order-book snapshots, minute-bar OHLC data, macroeconomic calendar events, social sentiment APIs.
      • Refresh rate: Sub-second for price data; 1–5 seconds for sentiment.
    2. Feature engineering & pattern recognition
      • Technical filters: Moving-average crossovers, RSI divergences, Bollinger Band squeezes.
      • Seasonal factors: Day-of-week and month-of-year patterns.
      • Sentiment overlays: News-driven volatility spikes, Twitter-derived bullish/bearish sentiment.
    3. Signal generation module
      • Ensemble of classifiers (random forests, gradient boosting, LSTM networks) votes on entry signals.
      • Risk scoring: Each signal is given a probability score (0–100%) and a recommended position size.
    4. Order management & execution
      • API integration with partner brokers for sub-100 ms order execution.
      • Smart order routing to minimize slippage.

    Why it matters:
A genuinely robust AI engine can adapt to shifting market regimes—bull cycles, bear markets, sideways consolidations—whereas static rule-based “signal” products often fail under stress. Users should, however, be mindful that no AI can predict “black swan” events (e.g., flash crashes, geopolitical shocks).

    Working of Trade 350 App

Trade 350 App is an online platform for trading in cryptocurrencies. It has dedicated tools to ensure that trading is fast, highly regulated, and profitable. The data accumulation software of this platform is brilliantly crafted to gather price movement data for all cryptocurrencies from all the exchanges in the world. This big data is then analyzed and compared with historical transaction data to generate profitable transaction signals for users. They can follow these signals to make profitable trades manually or via automated trading robots. This only takes a few milliseconds, so members of this trading platform can trade before the market takes the next step.

The software’s built-in time-hop function allows traders to advance 0.01 seconds in the cryptocurrency market. This software allows them to predict future market positions with 100% accuracy and offers reliable trading opportunities.

How to use Trade 350 App?

Step 1: Sign up for the Trade 350 App platform

There is a registration form on the platform’s homepage. People need to fill in and fill in the details such as their name and email address. The program verifies the personal information provided, and they are the latest members to join this platform. They can log into the members’ area and continue adding funds. The developers don’t charge a subscription fee, so users can sign up immediately.

Step 2: Add money to the trading account

Once traders have access to the private members’ page, they can add funds to their trading accounts. This is the money the software spends on making profitable trades. With a minimum deposit of just $ 250, one can start with small orders and gently increase their investment.

Step 3: Check the personal information

If members provide their payment information, the program will confirm it before deducting their initial investment. This is done to ensure that the trading account is safe and free from unwanted scams.

    Step 4: Practice, Explore, Learn

A demo account is available with Trade 350 App. Individuals can use their accounts to place virtual trade orders. They can also explore the trading platform’s features and services to see if it suits their taste. Accounts will help people gain experience in the cryptocurrency market, which will help them when they start a real trade.

Step 5: Change the trading parameters and select the trading mode

The first step in making a real trade is to adjust the parameters of the trade according to one’s needs. This includes the risk traders prefer for each order, the money they are willing to invest in, and the time interval between trades. They can change and adjust the transaction parameters at any time. Setting the parameters to one’s liking keeps one in control of one’s operations.

Then select a trading method. People can select manual mode or assisted mode. If they want the program to transact on their behalf, select the Help mode. Otherwise, switch to manual trading.

Step 6: Get the exact trading signal and execute the trade

Trade 350 Apps provide people with useful trading signals. Conduct thorough market research to discover trading opportunities that fit their trading profile. If people trade in assisted mode, the software will perform these trades. With a success rate of over 99%, one can profit from every trade.

Step 7: Transfer the profit to the bank account

The platform supports smooth and easy withdrawals. To transfer all earnings to the bank account, people need to fill out a withdrawal form. Upon approval, they will receive their profit in their savings account.

    RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH FUTURES TRADING
Futures transactions involve high risk. The amount of the initial margin is low compared to the value of the futures contract, so that transactions are “leveraged” or “geared”. A relatively small market movement has a proportionately larger impact on the funds that you have deposited or have to pay: this can work both for you and against you. You may experience the total loss of the initial margin funds as well as any additional funds deposited in the system. If the market develops in a way that is contrary to your position or if margins are increased, you may be asked to pay significant additional funds at short notice to maintain your position. In this case it may also happen that your broker account is in the red and you thus have to make payments beyond the initial investment.
    RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH ELECTRONIC TRADING
Before you begin carrying out transactions with an electronic system, you should carefully review the rules and provisions of the stock exchange offering the system, or of the financial instruments listed that you intend to trade, as well as your broker’s conditions. Online trading has inherent risks due to system responses/reaction times and access times that may vary due to market conditions, system performance and other factors, and on which you have no influence. You should be aware of these additional risks in electronic trading before you carry out investment transactions.
