  • MIL-OSI USA: Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene Applauds DOJ’s Decision to Drop Charges Against Dr. Kirk Moore

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA, 14)

Today, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA-14) is taking a victory lap following the Department of Justice’s announcement that all charges have been dropped against Dr. Michael Kirk Moore—a U.S. Navy veteran and physician who faced up to 35 years in federal prison for refusing to administer the experimental COVID-19 vaccine during the Biden Administration.

Congresswoman Greene sent a formal letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi on July 12, urging the DOJ to immediately dismiss the politically motivated charges against Dr. Moore. In that letter, Greene called Dr. Moore “a hero, not a criminal” and highlighted his medical service, opposition to coercive mandates, and commitment to medical freedom.

“Dr. Kirk Moore was targeted by a weaponized government because he refused to inject an experimental vaccine into people who didn’t want it,” said Congresswoman Greene. “He put his patients and principles first—and for that, the Biden regime tried to destroy his life. I’m thankful to Attorney General Pam Bondi for doing the right thing and bringing this political persecution to an end. This is a huge win for medical freedom and for every American who stood up to the COVID tyranny.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi also publicly thanked Congresswoman Greene for bringing this case to her attention, saying:

“The Department of Justice is grateful to Congresswoman Greene who has been a champion for Dr. Moore and so many other Americans who have been unfairly targeted by the government. We are committed to restoring trust in our justice system by ensuring fairness, integrity, and equal treatment under the law so no American lives in fear of their own government.”

Congresswoman Greene remains committed to exposing the abuses of power carried out by the previous administration and advancing legislation that defends medical freedom, transparency, and accountability.

  • MIL-OSI USA:  Amo Led Discussion with Rhode Island Manufacturers Struggling because of Trump’s Erratic Trade Policy

Source: US Congressman Gabe Amo (Rhode Island 1st District)

85% of Rhode Island manufacturers say Trump’s tariffs are hurting their businesses in a new survey.

PAWTUCKET, RI –  Monday, June 30th, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) led a roundtable discussion with six small, local manufacturers from across Rhode Island’s First Congressional District about the impacts of Trump’s chaotic tariff policy. Business leaders from LNA Laser Technology (Pawtucket, RI), Katrinkles (Providence, RI), Beehive Handmade (Warren, RI), Ward’s Manufacturing (Warren, RI), and S.K. Grimes (Woonsocket, RI) voiced fears that Trump’s sweeping, chaotic tariffs would irreparably harm their companies. The leaders shared they were less likely to hire Rhode Island workers or invest in research and development due to these policies.

“Rhode Island manufacturers, workers and consumers are paying the price for Trump’s tariff chaos,” said Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI). “Thank you to the small businesses from across the First Congressional District who shared their stories at last week’s roundtable in Pawtucket. They made crystal clear Trump’s all-encompassing, volatile tariffs are having disastrous consequences on their companies – they can’t hire, invest, or plan for the future. Small businesses and their employees need clear, consistent policy to thrive. Republicans talk a big game about reshoring American manufacturing, but their extreme policies are undermining American job creators. I took these stories back to Washington to keep fighting for a commonsense trade policy that empowers Rhode Island workers and businesses.”

“It was an honor to meet with Congressman Amo at last week’s roundtable event, and to experience firsthand how hard he is working on behalf of Rhode Island’s manufacturers,” said Katy Westcott, owner of Katrinkles in Warren, RI. “At Katrinkles, we’re seeing customers now purchasing elsewhere to avoid extra fees, or avoiding ordering from the United States altogether. It was heartening to discuss the impact of tariffs on the industry at large, as well as effective strategies for response, with so many insightful fellow manufacturers.”

“LNA Laser Technology supplies high quality lasers and systems for part identification and traceability to manufacturing industries across the country,” said Dan Gold, President and CEO of LNA Laser Technology in Pawtucket, RI. “Many components of our systems are sourced from abroad because they are not available domestically. The new tariff policies are driving the costs up significantly of critical components that ultimately gets passed on to the manufacturing end users. This not only impacts our ability to be competitive, it also punishes the US companies who are trying to invest in technology to improve and grow. My goal in talking with Congressman Amo was to share these real consequences and impacts so that he can hopefully work with his colleagues in Congress towards common sense exceptions in tariff policy that will promote investment in domestic manufacturing. If the goal is to help bring back manufacturing industries and jobs to the US, the current administration sweeping tariff policy is having the complete opposite effect.”

“I’m grateful to Congressman Amo for taking the time to gather us, listen to our concerns, and genuinely engage on the challenges we face,” said Adam Dau, President of S.K. Grimes in Woonsocket, RI. “What struck me during the roundtable was that, despite the wide range of products, materials, and clientele we served, every business at the table was feeling the weight of a tariff system that is inconsistently applied—or in some cases, applied without clear rationale. That uncertainty makes it incredibly difficult to plan for the future or invest in growth. The current system stands in the way of continuing to strengthen Rhode Island’s already strong manufacturing base, and we’re encouraged by the Congressman’s efforts to change that.”

“The tariffs are hurting American manufacturers at every level of the supply chain. Our material costs are increasing while our manufacturing customers are buying less,” said Kelly Ward, President of Ward’s Manufacturing in Warren, RI. “Businesses cannot make decisions when policies change every day and without warning. Many manufacturers are pausing projects until the federal government comes up with a definitive plan. The uncertainty is hurting the U.S. economy. My metal fabrication company, Ward’s Manufacturing LLC, has experienced a cost increase of up to 4x as a result of the tariffs. We have only two choices – either my company pays the tariff or the consumer pays the tariff. Either way, it’s Americans who pay.”

“Rhode Island’s small manufacturing ecosystem is strong and vibrant,” said Matt Watson, Center Director of Polaris MEP, Rhode Island’s Manufacturing Extension Program. “We’re grateful to Congressman Amo for highlighting the real impacts these companies are facing and for exploring potential solutions to help ease future headwinds.”

    Background

As Vice Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Congressman Amo, worked to force a voteto end the ‘so-called’ national emergency Trump is using to justify tariffs. If passed it would end reciprocal tariffs.

In May 2025, Amo led 30 colleagues, alongside Congressman Greg Casar (D-TX) and Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT), in calling on the Acting Inspector General of the State Department to review potential corruptionin trade negotiations with countries facing tariffs benefiting Elon Musk and Starlink.

In April 2025, Amo signed an amicus brief in Oregon v. Trump supporting the argument that the Trump Administration abused emergency powers under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to unlawfully impose reckless, across-the-board tariffs.

He also joined Congressman Steve Horsford (D-NV) in April 2025 to express alarm that Trump may be using trade policy to enrich insiders with advanced knowledge of pending trade actions or inactions.

Amo signed a letter led by Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-CA), and Congresswoman Linda Sanchez (D-CA) in a April 2025 addressed to Secretary Lutnick, Secretary Bessent, and USTR Ambassador Greer expressing concern about the Trump Administration’s tariffs opening the door to corruption.

In February 2025, Amo joined Congressman Jim Costa (D-CA) in urging Trump to reconsider the proposed 25% tariffson imported building materials from Canada and Mexico.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Amo and Lofgren Demand Commerce Secretary Lutnick Appear Before Committee to Answer for NWS Staff Shortages

Source: US Congressman Gabe Amo (Rhode Island 1st District)

The demand for testimony comes as search and rescue efforts continue in Central Texas after horrifying flooding devastated the area.

Washington, DC –  Yesterday, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI), Ranking Member of the House Science, Space, and Technology Environment Subcommittee and Science, Space, and Technology Ranking Member, Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) sent a letter to Department of Commerce Secretary Lutnick demanding he testify before the Committee to explain his plan to address staff shortages at the National Weather Service (NWS). The letter comes after the devastating flooding in Central Texas that has since called into question whether the Trump Administration’s mass firing and intimidation of federal employees may have impaired the ability of the NWS to carry out its mission.

“We write to you to demand your testimony before the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology regarding staff shortages at the National Weather Service (NWS) and your plan to address them,” said the Members in the letter. “The NWS is a critical public safety agency. In addition to its role as the source of everyday weather data for the country, the NWS is charged with forecasting extreme weather events and communicating those forecasts promptly to the public in order to save lives and livelihoods. Americans rely on the NWS every single day to keep us safe. But the NWS is only as strong as its people. And under your leadership, the Department of Commerce (DOC) has overseen an indiscriminate wave of firings, deferred resignations, and early retirements that has thrown the NWS into crisis. The dangers arising from that crisis have been laid bare in the wake of the horrifying, tragic flooding that struck parts of Central Texas on July 4th. While it is too soon to draw definitive conclusions about what happened, it is already clear that this is precisely the type of situation in which the existence of a short-staffed, depleted NWS heightens the risk of tragedy. There will be more such extreme weather events – there always are. You must appear before the Committee immediately and explain to us how you intend to restore the NWS to full strength as quickly as possible so that the agency will be fully prepared to carry out its lifesaving mission when the next disaster strikes.”

“It will take time to fully understand whether any part of this past weekend’s tragedy in Texas could have been avoided,” the Members continued. “We cannot rush to judgment based on the limited information available to us now. But it is apparent to us, Secretary Lutnick, that your actions to drastically slash staffing at the National Weather Service have increased the broader risks to Americans of extreme weather events by impairing the ability of the NWS to do its job. Simply put, you cut too deep. You refused to listen to the warnings from experts, from Congress, and from the NWS itself. And the flooding in Central Texas illustrates, in the most terrible fashion, the disastrous risks you invite by taking the lifesaving role of the NWS for granted.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Ranking Members Amo and Stanton Slam Trump’s Staffing Cuts to FEMA and NWS After Tragic Texas Flooding

Source: US Congressman Gabe Amo (Rhode Island 1st District)

With 120+ dead and 150+ missing, tragic Texas flooding highlights extreme danger of Trump’s staffing cuts to FEMA and the National Weather Service

Providence, RI –  Yesterday, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI), Ranking Member of the Science, Space, and Technology Committee Subcommittee on Environment and Congressman Greg Stanton (D-AZ), Ranking Member of the Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management Subcommittee of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure hosted a virtual press conference to highlight the potentially deadly consequences of President Trump’s staffing cuts to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Weather Service (NWS).

“My thoughts are with the families and survivors of the flash floods in Texas. Despite a lack of support from the Trump administration, National Weather Service staff kept local officials and the public informed throughout the deadly flooding. ” said Ranking Member of the Science, Space, and Technology Subcommittee on the Environment, Gabe Amo (D-RI). “I’ve kept raising the alarm about the costs of cuts to our nation’s weather workforce and our ability to research and respond to climate-fueled weather disasters. Refusing to study extreme weather and purging our scientific workforce isn’t going to stop disasters and help families, it’s just going to undermine our ability to be prepared and save lives.”

“My heart breaks for the families in Texas who have been devastated by these horrific floods,” said Congressman Greg Stanton (D-AZ). “Extreme weather is only becoming more frequent and more severe, from wildfires to extreme heat in Arizona to flash floods in Texas, the federal government must be fully staffed, fully funded and fully prepared to respond to these disasters. Texans and all Americans deserve a FEMA that is strong, capable and ready on day one, not one deliberately undermined by its own leadership. As we continue to pray for all of those affected, House Democrats will continue to relentlessly demand transparency and accountability for and on behalf of the American people, especially those experiencing unimaginable tragedy.”

Watch the full press conference here.

    Background

On July 4, after heavy rain in the Texas Hill Country, the Guadalupe and other rivers breached their banks causing catastrophic flooding leaving more than 120 dead.

Ranking Member Amo and Ranking Member Stanton alongside Science, Space, and Technology Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) and Transportation and Infrastructure Ranking Member Rick Larsen (D-WA) sent a letter to the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) and the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) seeking answers on federal activity in preparation for and in response to the tragic floods.

Amo, Ranking Member Lofgren, and Science, Space, and Technology Oversight Subcommittee Ranking Member Emilia Sykes (D-OH) also sent a letter calling on Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick to testify before the Committee about the staffing shortages at the National Weather Service and their potential impact on the Texas flash floods.

Amo also joined Homeland Security Subcommittee onEmergency Management And Technology Ranking Member Timothy Kennedy (D-NY) in calling for answers from Acting FEMA Administrator David Richardson and Acting Under Secretary of Commerce for NOAA Laura Grimm about the status of FEMA and the National Weather Service’s preparedness for and response to the disastrous flooding in Texas.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Vasquez Demands Action on Delayed Army Funding to Modernize Housing at White Sands Missile Range

Source: US Representative Gabe Vasquez’s (NM-02)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) sent a letter to Army Secretary Driscoll and Army Installation Management Command urging the Department to disperse $7 million dollars to make much needed improvements to housing infrastructure for our active duty military members that live and work at White Sands Missile Range. The funding was expected last summer but remains undelivered, despite assurance that these funds would be dispersed soon from General Mingus at a House Armed Services Committee hearing in May.

“Service members at White Sands train tirelessly, work hard, and selflessly serve their country while living in outdated housing that is decades past its prime,” said Vasquez. “The Department of Defense must make sure our service members have a much better standard of living if we are to reach our peak readiness potential. Further delays to modernize on-base housing – funding that has long been promised – continues to hurt morale and shortchanges our military’s most important asset: its soldiers.

White Sands Missile Range is the premier site for weapons development and testing. Many of its housing units were built shortly after the end of World War II and require urgent and extensive improvements. Many rural bases, like White Sands Missile Range, are often overlooked and face more red tape for infrastructure improvements compared to larger bases located in urban areas.

This letter calls on the U.S. Army to take action and immediately disperse these funds to begin upgrades to the housing on base to ensure service members and their families have safe, comfortable living arrangements. Additionally, it requests that the U.S. Army provides Vasquez with a brief on the status of these funds no later than August 1, 2025.

Rep. Vasquez is committed to honoring the heroes that protect our nation by securing federal resources that enhance both the operational strength of New Mexico’s military installations and the quality of life for service members and their families.

You can find the full text of the letter below:

Dear Secretary Driscoll and Lieutenant General Jones,

I write to you urging the Army’s Installation Management Command (IMCOM) to immediately disperse delayed funds to improve the quality of on-base housing at White Sands Missile Range (WSMR). WSMR and Fort Bliss were scheduled to receive approximately $7 million in the summer of 2024 for housing modernization, but that funding never materialized. On May 6th, 2025 General Mingus testified in the House Armed Services Committee that WSMR would “see movement on [the funding] shortly” – it has been nine weeks since General Mingus’ testimony and WSMR has still not received their funding.

WSMR is the Department of Defense’s (DOD) premier research, development, test, and evaluation (RDTE) site. DOD is reliant on WSMR to develop and test new weapons systems that prepare us for the challenges of tomorrow, but the success of this testing ecosystem falls on the shoulders of the service members who live and work on base. Despite working and living in aging and run-down infrastructure decades past its intended service life, the personnel at WSMR continue to do a world-class job in service to our nation.

It’s no secret that DOD has a housing quality issue, and unfortunately rural installations like WSMR are often the most delayed and overlooked. With many of the buildings at WSMR constructed in the years following World War II, much of the legacy housing on-base is outdated and needs significant upgrades. When service members and their families don’t have a safe or comfortable place to rest their heads at night, they can’t accomplish their mission – and that jeopardizes our readiness and national security.

Given DOD’s significant reliance on WSMR for their RDTE, I am concerned about the delay in disbursement of funds from IMCOM to upgrade legacy housing and the impact that is having on our readiness. Following the assurance from General Mingus that we can expect that funding shortly, I request the Army take actions to make this funding immediately available to WSMR and to provide me with a briefing on the status of this funding no later than August 1st, 2025.

Thank you again for your service and for your attention to this important matter.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Alongside Renters Rights Groups, Rep. Maxwell Frost Announces Two Bills to Empower Working Renters

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Maxwell Frost Florida (10th District)

    July 11, 2025

Frost’s End Junk Fees for Renters Act and End Tenant Credit Screening Act Work to Breakdown Hurdles for Renters

    Watch the Press Conference Here

ORLANDO, FL — As Florida and the country grapple with rising costs, a worsening economy, and a housing crisis, today Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost (FL-10) announced he was introducing two bills to empower working-class renters and dismantle the hurdles that have made it harder for too many to have a roof over their head.

Frost’s End Junk Fees for Renters Act and End Tenant Credit Screening Act would crack down on the excessive and dishonest junk fees that millions of renters are charged when applying and every month thereafter by money-hungry landlords while also removing a major obstacle renters face when applying for housing by prohibiting landlords from using credit scores and consumer reports when screening potential tenants.

Frost’s bills come as Florida and the U.S. face a housing affordability crisis that continues to squeeze working people and renters, too often forcing people to slip into homelessness at a time when cities are criminalizing folks who cannot afford to keep a roof over their heads.

Frost, who was joined by local elected leaders, including State Rep. Anna Eskamani, and housing organizations and advocates, recently posted on the Orlando community Reddit page where he received hundreds of comments and dozens of stories from local folks who have been victimized by excessive and hidden fees from landlords or have been outright denied housing because of their credit scores.

“At a time when many people in Central Florida and across the country are struggling to make ends meet, we must remove the obstacles that prevent them from keeping a roof over their heads. Hidden fees and discriminatory credit screenings are major challenges for renters,” said Rep. Maxwell Frost. “These bills will help create a fairer, more equitable, and transparent rental market. If we want a future where everyone has access to stable, secure housing, then we must end junk fees. We must end discriminatory credit screenings. We must make housing a right, not a luxury. We’ve got a lot of work left to do for renters and to address the housing crisis, but these bills are an important first step to offer immediate relief.”

The End Junk Fees for Renters Act is endorsed by the National Housing Law Project, National Low Income Housing Coalition, National Homelessness Law Center, National Alliance to End Homelessness, and National Consumer Law Center (on behalf of its low-income clients). The End Tenant Credit Screening Act is endorsed by the National Consumer Law Center (on behalf of its low-income clients).

“Credit scores were never intended to gauge whether someone will be a good tenant. They’re designed to predict whether someone will be late paying a loan, not rent, which is a much higher-priority bill than a credit card. Given the current rental housing crisis, this practice makes a bad situation even worse. We applaud Congressman Frost for introducing a bill to put a stop to this unfair practice,” stated Chi Chi Wu, Director of Consumer Reporting and Data Advocacy at the National Consumer Law Center.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Hoyle Joins Oregon Delegation to Urge Release of Critical Fishery Disaster Funding

Source: US Representative Val Hoyle (OR-04)

    July 11, 2025

Lawmakers press the Trump Administration to act quickly to unlock $7 million intended to help Oregon’s ocean commercial fishermen recover from significant economic losses from declining salmon populations

For Immediate Release: July 11, 2025

EUGENE, OR – Oregon’s U.S. Representative Val Hoyle (OR-04), alongside U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley and Reps. Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01), Andrea Salinas (OR-06), Maxine Dexter (OR-03), and Janelle Bynum (OR-05) pressed the Trump Administration to release the $7,050,722 that was allocated to Oregon for the catastrophic regional fishery disaster that was declared for the Oregon Chinook salmon commercial ocean fisheries in the state for 2018, 2019, and 2020.

The Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC) resubmitted their spending plan for funds allocated by the U.S. Department of Commerce in October 2024, but their final revised application has gone without a response from the Trump Administration for the last several months, delaying much needed funding for Oregon’s fishermen.

The Oregon lawmakers are urging Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought to promptly review and act upon the PSMFC’s application without further delay to help the state’s ocean commercial fishermen and coastal economies recover from the significant toll of declining salmon populations.

“Oregon salmon and salmon fisheries are an invaluable cultural, economic, and ecological resource in our state. Salmon are highly valued by Native American tribes in the Pacific Northwest for cultural, subsistence, and economic benefits,” wrote the lawmakers.

The impact salmon loss has on Oregon’s economy cannot be understated, as the state’s commercial fishing industry generates more than $640 million in economic activity each year, equivalent to 9,200 jobs.

The lawmakers pressed this fact to Director Vought: “Additionally, the commercial salmon industry is a significant economic driver for rural communities on the Oregon Coast, generating millions of dollars in economic output. Sadly, our salmon fisheries have faced significant obstacles over the last decade which have resulted in significant fishery declines.”

As the Oregon delegation continues to hear from concerned constituents in Oregon’s coastal communities and fisheries, they are requesting Director Vought provide responses to the following questions by August 1, 2025:

    1. Does the Office of Management and Budget require additional information to process the application submitted by the PSMFC?

    2. Will the Office of Management and Budget commit to promptly reviewing the application resubmitted by PSMFC in a timely manner and to apportion and obligate funding to the designated amount of $7,050,722 for the declared disaster?

“We look forward to a timely disbursal of these critical funds to assist Oregon’s commercial salmon industry and await your response,” the lawmakers closed.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Malliotakis Applauds Court Decision Rejecting 9/11 Plea Deal

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11)

(NEW YORK, NY) – Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) today issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit’s decision to strike down a plea deal that would have allowed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his co-defendants to avoid the death penalty:

“I applaud today’s decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals to rightly reject an outrageous plea deal that would have allowed the 9/11 mastermind and his accomplices to escape the death penalty. This ruling confirms what we’ve been saying all along: the Biden Administration never should have considered such a deal in the first place.

The American people have waited more than two decades for justice. The families who lost loved ones, along with the first responders who continue to suffer, deserve full accountability for those who orchestrated the deadliest terrorist attack on our nation’s soil. It is time to move forward by setting a trial date and pursuing the death penalty to ensure these terrorists are finally held fully accountable for their crimes.”

In 2024, Malliotakis was joined by 9/11 Families & First Responders Call for Justice to be Served Against 9/11 Terrorists.

In 2023, Malliotakis joined Texas Senator Ted Cruz in writing to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin urging the Department of Defense to scrap any possibility for a plea dealwith 9/11 terrorists that takes the death penalty off the table.

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Kevin Mullin California (15th District)

Today, U.S. Senators Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Ranking Member on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee (EPW), and Alex Padilla (D-CA), a member of the Committee, along with Representatives Doris Matsui (D-CA-07) and Kevin Mullin (D-CA-15), reintroduced legislation aimed at reducing harmful pollution from the global shipping industry.  Maritime shipping is a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions around the world and a major contributor to air pollution in port communities.

Led by Senators Whitehouse and Padilla and Representatives Matsui and Mullin, the bicameral International Maritime Pollution Accountability Act would decarbonize the emissions-heavy maritime shipping industry, prevent the release of criteria air pollutants in port communities, and revitalize the U.S. shipping industry.  Senators Martin Heinrich (D-NM) and Peter Welch (D-VT) are cosponsors.

“Communities near our ports—like those in the San Francisco Bay Area—bear the brunt of pollution from ships that fuel global trade. The International Maritime Pollution Accountability Act ensures that the global shipping industry does its part to reduce emissions. The revenue from these pollution fees will help speed the shift to cleaner ships and healthier ports. I’m proud to partner with Congresswoman Matsui to advance this policy that meets the urgency of the climate crisis while protecting the people and places most impacted by maritime emissions,” said Congressman Kevin Mullin, who co-led reintroduction of the International Maritime Pollution Accountability Act in the House.

“As climate change destroys lives and drives up costs for families, we need an all-hands-on-deck approach to avoid the worst consequences for communities, businesses, and the environment,” said Ranking Member Whitehouse.  “Encouragingly, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has put forward a global carbon price on shipping emissions.  This legislation reinforces that work, further cutting harmful emissions while supporting the maritime innovators that are pioneering clean technologies to protect public health and can help put us on course to climate safety.”

“California’s ports are the powerhouse of our country’s economy, moving critical freight and providing good-paying jobs, all while leading the nation’s decarbonizing efforts. But neighboring communities have been forced to shoulder the brunt of global shipping pollution for too long,” said Senator Padilla. “Our legislation would strengthen the sustainability of our shipping industry by reducing emissions in maritime transportation while simultaneously protecting coastal communities. The health of our communities and our planet requires us to be forward-looking and ambitious — we owe future generations nothing less than bold, transformative action.”

“The climate crisis isn’t a distant threat. It’s here, it’s accelerating, and it’s devastating communities across our state and our country,” said Congresswoman Matsui, who co-led reintroduction of the International Maritime Pollution Accountability Act in the House. “We must act quickly to reduce greenhouse gases and other harmful air pollution across our economy. The International Maritime Pollution Accountability Act takes decisive action to slash pollution from cargo ships and provide urgently needed investment in clean maritime technology and infrastructure. While the International Maritime Organization made history this spring by approving a global net-zero shipping framework, President Trump tried to derail negotiations and continues to block any action to fight climate change. This bill would ensure the U.S. is leading—not lagging—on climate action.  As Trump and his allies double down on climate denial and fossil fuel handouts, we’re fighting back with real solutions that protect public health and the planet.”

“Investing in green transportation–both on land and at sea–is vital to tackling the climate crisis. That includes supporting clean shipping initiatives that help protect communities from harmful emissions,” said Senator Welch, a cosponsor of the International Maritime Pollution Accountability Act.  “I’m glad to join Senator Whitehouse in introducing this bill to increase accountability for large polluters and help modernize America’s shipping fleet and port infrastructure.”

Globally, maritime shipping is a major source of climate-warming pollution, including climate-warming GHG emissions (carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide) and harmful air pollutant emissions (oxides of nitrogen, sulfur dioxide, and fine particulate matter). According to the International Maritime Organization 2020 GHG Study, the global shipping industry emits approximately one billion tons of GHG emissions per year, roughly three percent of total anthropogenic global-warming carbon-dioxide emissions. The study projects in future scenarios that shipping’s GHG emissions could more than double between 2018 and 2050 without action. These emissions are not only harmful for the environment, but they jeopardize the air quality and public health of the nearly 40 percent of Americans who live within three miles of a port.

Maritime shipping is the largest source of traded goods, both for the U.S. and globally.  Unlike other modes of transportation (trucks, planes, etc.), marine shipping vessels rarely pay fuel taxes.  Implementing a pollution fee would address this loophole while encouraging domestic manufacturing and reducing the U.S. trade deficit, which approached $1.2 trillion in 2024.

    International Maritime Pollution Accountability Act

The International Maritime Pollution Accountability Act would:

    ·        Impose a pollution fee on the largest marine vessels offloading cargo at U.S. ports, driving industry-wide decarbonization efforts and incentivizing the use and development of cleaner maritime fuels.

    ·        Levy a $150 per ton fee on the carbon emissions of fuel burned on an inbound trip, as well as fees for the nitrogen oxides ($6.30/lb.), sulfur dioxide ($18/lb.), and particle pollution (PM2.5) ($38.90/lb.) that ships emit.  The fees would apply only to those ships with 5,000 gross tonnage or more, excluding most of the domestic industry, and the fee on carbon emissions would sunset if the IMO implemented and enforced a fee on the greenhouse gas emissions of marine shipping that was equal to or greater than the $150 per ton fee levied in the bill.

    ·        Provide critical funding for modernizing the Jones Act fleet with low-carbon vessels, revitalizing and electrifying U.S. shipbuilding, and addressing pollutants in America’s port communities, along our coasts, and in our oceans.

The International Maritime Pollution Accountability Act has been endorsed by EV Maritime, Friends of the Earth, GreenLatinos, Ocean Conservancy, Pacific Environment, San Pedro & Peninsula Homeowners Coalition, Sierra Club, 350 Bay Area Action, and 350 Brooklyn.

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Hillary Scholten – Michigan

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Today, U.S. Representative Hillary Scholten (MI-03) announced that the Gerald R. Ford International Airport Authority (GRR) will receive $2,386,331 through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP). The grant will support key infrastructure improvements at the airport, ensuring safer, more efficient operations and long-term growth.

“Gerald R. Ford International is a critical economic engine and a gateway to West Michigan. I’m proud to secure nearly $2.4 million to improve airport safety, extend the life of essential infrastructure, and help GRR keep pace with growing demand,” said Rep. Scholten. “These upgrades will help ensure GRR continues to operate safely and efficiently for years to come. I’ll keep fighting to bring more resources like this home to help West Michigan grow and thrive.”

“We are incredibly grateful to Congresswoman Scholten and the Federal Aviation Administration for their continued support of the Gerald R. Ford International Airport and the West Michigan region,” said Tory Richardson, President and CEO of the Gerald R. Ford International Airport Authority. “This funding allows us to move forward with critical infrastructure projects that will enhance safety, improve efficiency, and support future growth. These investments help ensure we continue to deliver a world-class airport experience to our passengers, partners, and community.”

Specifically, the grant will support Phase 1 design work for several infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving safety, extending the life of existing facilities, and increasing airport capacity to meet growing regional demand. The funding goes towards the rehabilitation of Taxiway V, which serves a vital role as a primary connection between the terminal apron and the airfield for commercial aircraft. Partial rehabilitation of the Taxiway will extend the useful life at least ten years while preserving the pavement for continued safe and efficient operations.

GRR is currently at capacity for available airside development sites, and the construction of Taxilane L will allow for additional hangar developments.

As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Scholten is committed to bringing federal investment back to Michigan’s Third Congressional District and strengthening the region’s transportation infrastructure. Scholten secured $15,017,605 in total funding for GRR in the FY24- 25 fiscal year. This grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and will be administered by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Nick Langworthy Visits Springville to Spotlight Local Seniors, Small Businesses

Source: US Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) visited the Village of Springville on Thursday to meet directly with residents, local officials, and small business owners to hear about the challenges facing the community and highlight how recent policy wins are making a difference right here at home.

At the Concord Senior Center, Congressman Langworthy sat down with local seniors for a conversation over lunch about the rising cost of living and the importance of protecting Social Security. With recent legislative changes ensuring that 88% of seniors will no longer pay federal tax on their Social Security benefits, the Congressman emphasized that local retirees will see more breathing room in their budget for groceries, prescriptions, and other everyday essentials.

Joined by Concord Town Supervisor Phil Drozd and Springville Deputy Mayor Russ Belscher, Congressman Langworthy took a walk down Springville’s Main Street to hear directly from the small business owners that keep the local economy running. From family-run shops to independent service providers, these businesses are the backbone of Springville, and Congressman Langworthy reaffirmed his commitment to reducing red tape, keeping taxes low, and making sure local entrepreneurs have the support they need to grow and thrive.

At Springville Pharmacy, one of the community’s trusted health care resources, Congressman Langworthy discussed the urgent need to lower prescription drug prices and the impact of recent reforms targeting middlemen known as Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs). These changes are designed to protect local access to medications, especially in rural communities where pharmacies like this are vital.

“Springville is a wonderful example of everything that’s right about small-town America right here in Western New York—strong families, close-knit neighbors, and hardworking small business owners,” said Congressman Langworthy. “It was an honor to hear directly from the people I serve. Whether it’s helping seniors keep more of their Social Security, standing up for independent pharmacies, or fighting for small-town businesses, I’m proud to be your voice in Washington.”

“We are grateful to Congressman Langworthy for being a powerful voice for Concord in Washington.” said Supervisor Phil Drozd. “I was glad to welcome him to town to visit our senior program and walk through Springville to meet with local business owners. Our small business are the heart of this community and the tax relief he secured for families, seniors and businesses is critical to keep our money here instead of sending it to Washington.”
