  • MIL-OSI USA: Alford Urges Trump Administration to Investigate Potential Ties Between Antisemitic Murderer and Foreign Terrorist Organizations

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Mark Alford (Missouri 4th District)

Today, Congressman Mark Alford (MO-04) sent a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Following the heinous antisemitic murders of two Israeli Embassy employees last week, one of whom was a native of the Kansas City area, Congressman Alford is respectfully urging the Trump Administration to investigate potential ties between the alleged murderer and designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations.

Read the full letter here or below:

“Dar Secretaries Rubio and Bessent, and Attorney General Bondi,

“Today I am writing to you with a heavy heart to address the tragic murders of Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky. These two young employees of the Israeli Embassy were murdered as they were leaving the Capital Jewish Museum. They had just attended an event focused on finding humanitarian solutions for Gaza. Milgrim and Lischinsky, aged 26 and 28 respectively, were reportedly in a relationship and set to be engaged next week according to Israeli Ambassador Yechiel Leiter. My heart goes out to both families.

“According to eyewitness reports, the alleged murderer, Elias Rodriguez, held a keffiyeh and shouted, “Free Palestine.” Rodriguez had been a member of the Party of Socialism and Liberation (PSL), a revolutionary socialist party that has been a prominent supporter of Hamas and other antisemitic terror groups.  A now removed article in the group’s Liberation paper featured a picture of Rodriguez as well as quotes from him expressing fury at Amazon for the “whitening” of Seattle due to Amazon’s employees. The same article went on to list an “Elias Rodriguez” as one of its activists.

“The Chicago chapter of the PSL held a gala benefiting the Middle Eastern Children’s Alliance (MECA), a California-based nonprofit with reported ties to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).  The PFLP is a State Department designated Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and is a Marxist-Leninist group that is the second-largest of the groups forming the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO).

“Given these deeply concerning connections, I respectfully urge you to investigate potential foreign funding sources for extremist groups that may incite acts of terrorism on U.S. soil. I am especially alarmed by individuals and organizations operating domestically that maintain ties to designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations and promote antisemitic ideologies.

“I respectfully request your responses to the following questions:

    1. Are there any financial ties between the Party of Socialism and Liberation and Foreign Terrorist Organizations?
    2. What steps have the State and Treasury Departments taken to monitor foreign funding, especially by FTOs, of individuals or groups organizing anti-Israel and antisemitic events in the United States?
    3. What procedures are in place between the State Department and the Department of Justice to monitor non-citizens within the United States who express support for Foreign Terrorist Organizations?

“Tragedies like this must not be allowed to happen. I trust you will treat this matter with the seriousness it demands and look forward to your response.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Statement from Congressman Jonathan L. Jackson on the Passing of Congressman Charles B. Rangel

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Jonathan Jackson – Illinois (1st District)

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I join our nation in mourning the loss of Congressman Charles B. Rangel—a titan of public service, a warrior for justice, and a beacon of hope for generations of Americans. His passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the fabric of our nation, but his extraordinary legacy will forever illuminate the path toward equity and dignity for all.

Congressman Rangel was not only a colleague and mentor but a cherished friend and a guiding force in my life. His bond with my father, the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, was forged in the fires of the Civil Rights Movement, where they stood shoulder to shoulder in the fight for voting rights, economic justice, and the soul of our democracy. “Charlie” as we all affectionately called him, was a brother in struggle and a steadfast ally who reminded us that “service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this Earth.” His counsel to me, as a young man navigating the weight of my family’s legacy, was unwavering: “Keep your eyes on the horizon, but never forget the people who lifted you there.”

A son of Harlem and a decorated Korean War veteran, Congressman Rangel carried the scars of battle—both on the battlefield, where he earned a Purple Heart, and in the halls of Congress, where he waged a 46-year campaign against inequality. As a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus, he transformed its vision into a powerhouse for progress, championing landmark legislation from the Martin Luther King Jr. National Holiday to the fight for Reparations. His leadership as Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee redefined economic fairness, ensuring that prosperity reached those too long left behind.

Charlie’s life was a living testament to Black history. From his humble beginnings in a Harlem housing project to his rise as one of Congress’ most influential voices, he embodied the resilience and brilliance of our community. He stood as a bridge between the giants of the Civil Rights era and the leaders of today, reminding us that the fight for justice is both timeless and urgent. His unapologetic advocacy for the marginalized—whether through challenging apartheid in South Africa or battling discriminatory drug policies at home—cemented his place among the pantheon of American freedom fighters.

To the Rangel family, I extend my deepest condolences and the gratitude of a nation forever shaped by his courage. Charlie Rangel’s light will never dim. As we mourn, let us also celebrate a life that taught us to lead with conviction, serve with compassion, and never surrender in the pursuit of what is right.

Rest in power, Chairman. Your rent was paid in full.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Miller-Meeks Bill to Strengthen Veteran Suicide Prevention Passes House

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks’ (IA-02)

Washington, D.C. – This week, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1969, the No Wrong Door for Veterans Act, bipartisan legislation introduced by Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) to expand and improve the Department of Veterans Affairs’ suicide prevention grant program.

“As a 24-year Army veteran and physician, I’ve seen firsthand how difficult it can be for veterans in crisis to navigate a complicated system when every second counts,” said Miller-Meeks. “The No Wrong Door for Veterans Act ensures that our heroes are never turned away or left without help. It streamlines access, strengthens coordination, and reaffirms our promise to those who served. I’m proud to lead this bipartisan effort—and to say to every veteran: we see you, we hear you, and we will fight for you.”

“Since House Republicans created the Fox Grant program in 2020, hundreds of organizations in communities across the United States have been able to provide traditional and non-traditional mental health and therapy support services to veterans in need,” said VA Committee Chairman Mike Bost. “I want to thank my friend and our Health subcommittee Chairwoman Dr. Miller-Meeks for her work on the No Wrong Doors for Veterans Act to continue this lifesaving suicide prevention program. This bill also includes provisions to allow disabled veterans to receive prosthetics through VA to enjoy sports and recreational activities,” Chairman Bost continued. “With Dr. Miller-Meeks bill, we would expand mental health and wellness support by ensuring that there is truly no wrong door for veterans and their families to turn to – I look forward to seeing this bill passed in the Senate and signed into law by President Trump soon.”

The No Wrong Door for Veterans Act reauthorizes the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program through 2026 and makes key improvements—requiring local VA coordination, modernizing screening protocols, expanding access to emergent care, and holding grantees accountable.

    Background:

The Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program helps community-based organizations deliver life-saving mental health and suicide prevention services to veterans. Congresswoman Miller-Meeks’ No Wrong Door for Veterans Act strengthens this program by closing communication gaps between grantees and VA medical centers, requiring clearer eligibility standards, and extending funding authority.

Additionally, Miller-Meeks secured inclusion of her Veterans Supporting Prosthetics Opportunities and Recreational Therapy (SPORT) Act, which ensures veterans can access adaptive prostheses and terminal devices for sports and recreational activities—fostering both physical and mental well-being.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Zinke Introduces Bill to Modernize Outdated Foreign Military Sales Congressional Notification Process

Source: US Congressman Ryan Zinke (Western Montana)

(Washington, D.C.)  As Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Foreign Military Sales Task Force, Congressman Ryan Zinke has introduced bipartisan legislation to modernize the Congressional Notification (CN) thresholds for Foreign Military Sales (FMS) and Direct Commercial Sales (DCS). Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) co-sponsored this legislation. Read the full text of the bill here.

FMS and DCS purchases by allies have surged, however, CN thresholds have remained unchanged for over 20 years. The outdated process delays key defense and diplomatic partnerships, potentially pushing allies toward adversaries like China and Russia.

Zinke’s bill raises CN dollar thresholds to reflect inflation and global realities, streamlining approval timelines while maintaining rigorous security and human rights reviews by the Department of State and Department of Defense. The legislation also updates reporting requirements under the Arms Export Control Act to improve efficiency and oversight.

  • MIL-OSI USA: McClellan, Sánchez Introduce Bill to Improve Affordability of Student Transportation Costs

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (Virginia 4th District)

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (VA-04) and Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA-38) introduced the Accessible Campus Commuting and Expanded Student Savings (ACCESS) Act to improve accessibility and affordability of higher education.

The cost of transportation is a significant barrier for many students, yet is often overlooked as students weigh the affordability of college and apprenticeship programs.

The ACCESS Act would help reduce barriers to access, make higher education more affordable and alleviate student pressure by helping American families use their savings to cover more of their children’s education expenses.

“Student parking and transportation costs add up fast for commuting students — and the problem is only getting worse,” said Congresswoman McClellan. “High commuting costs hurt student retention and success at a time when institutions already see declining enrollments post-COVID, yet many scholarship and financial aid awards still don’t cover transportation expenses. The ACCESS Act empowers students to use their 529 savings plan to cover transportation and parking expenses, ensuring that they have the tools they need to succeed regardless of zip code or socioeconomic status.”

“Commuting to class shouldn’t be what keeps someone from getting their degree. But for a lot of students, the cost of parking or public transit adds up quickly. This is a smart, straightforward way to make things a little bit easier,” said Congresswoman Sánchez. “I appreciate Congresswoman McClellan for her work to make college more affordable for more students.”

The ACCESS Act has been endorsed by Commonwealth Savers (formerly Virginia 529), the College Savings Plans Network (CSPN), the Virginia College Advising Network (VCAN), the Virginia Community College System, the College Savings Foundation, and the Council for Independent Colleges of Virginia (CICV).

Specifically, H.R.3574, the Accessible Campus Commuting and Expanded Student Savings Act would:

    • Amend Section 529 of the Internal Revenue Code to allow 529 savings plans to include student parking and transportation costs at colleges, universities, and apprenticeship programs as eligible educational expenses covered by the 529 Program.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Don Davis Introduces Legislation Promoting Aviation Education and Honors Recent Graduates at Our Community Salutes Event

Source: US Congressman Don Davis (NC-01)

ELIZABETH CITY, NC — Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) announced new legislation Thursday aimed at expanding access to aviation education and later honored military-bound high school graduates during a community event in Elizabeth City.

H.R. 3530, the Flight Education Access Act, was introduced during a press conference at Davis’ district office. Co-led by Congresswoman Jen Kiggans (R-VA), the bill seeks to raise federal student loan limits for students enrolled in undergraduate flight training programs, such as those offered at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU).

The proposed bill would raise the amount students can borrow in federal loans for flight training programs. Dependent students could borrow up to $111,000, and independent students up to $137,500. It also increases the limit for certain other federal loans to $65,000. The bill would also require the Department of Education to track and report how many students finish these aviation programs each year.

“By raising student loan limits for our aspiring pilots, we are taking one step towards meeting our nation’s aerospace workforce needs and providing opportunities for the next generation across eastern North Carolina and our nation,” said Congressman Davis. “We must do everything we can to create a brighter future for our aviation students, no matter their zip code or crossroad.”

The announcement preceded the Our Community Salutes (OCS) event, a program that honors and supports high school graduates enlisting in the U.S. military, as well as their families, as they transition from civilian to military life. Since 2009, OCS has held more than 300 ceremonies across 70 communities in 25 states, honoring over 3,100 new enlistees in 2024 alone. The program also provides financial literacy training and educational pathways for enlistees.

This year marked the launch of an Our Community Salutes ceremony for the Northeast North Carolina region, hosted in partnership with Congressman Davis and ECSU. The event drew attendees from across the region, including Raleigh and Norfolk.

ECSU’s Aviation Science Program, the only four-year collegiate aviation education program in North Carolina, served as the venue for both the press conference and ceremony. The program offers specialized degrees in Aviation Management, Avionics, Flight Education, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, and Professional Aeronautics, preparing students for careers in aerospace and aviation industries. Despite growing enrollment, ECSU’s aviation program faces a funding deficit of approximately $18,000 per student. The university currently uses carry-forward funds to purchase equipment, but additional recurring funding is needed to sustain the program and expand student support.

Congressman Davis, a former assistant professor of Aerospace Studies at East Carolina University’s Air Force ROTC, has long been an advocate for aviation and military education programs. At a previous ECSU Aviation Sciences Building groundbreaking, he emphasized the importance of these programs for the region and the nation.

The press conference and OCS ceremony highlighted the region’s commitment to supporting military families and expanding educational pathways in aviation and aerospace.

Congressman Don Davis serves as the vice ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee and sits on the Subcommittees on Tactical Air and Land Forces and Readiness. He graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1994 and is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Russell Fry (SC-07) Introduces the Targeting Child Predators Act

    Source:

Congressman Russell Fry (SC-07) Introduces the Targeting Child Predators Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Russell Fry (SC-07) reintroduced the Targeting Child Predators Act, a critical piece of legislation aimed at strengthening law enforcement’s ability to investigate and prosecute online child exploitation.

Under current law, when officials identify a suspected child predator through an IP address, they can issue a subpoena to the Internet Service Provider (ISP) to obtain the name and account information tied to that address. While ISPs typically comply with these subpoenas, they sometimes alert the targeted user, who, in these cases, are suspected child predators.

This early notification can have devastating consequences and allow suspects to tamper with evidence, flee prosecution, intimidate witnesses, and jeopardize investigations before charges can be filed.

The Targeting Child Predators Act would give law enforcement the ability to request a temporary nondisclosure order that is valid for up to 180 days, preventing ISPs from alerting suspects while investigators build their case.

This specific authority would apply only in cases of suspected child exploitation. In addition, law enforcement must certify that, if the Internet Service Provider disclosed the information request to the targeted suspect, that disclosure could enable suspects and result in:

    1. Endangering the life or physical safety of an individual

    2. Flight from prosecution

    3. Destruction of or tampering with evidence

    4. Intimidation of potential witnesses or

    5. Seriously jeopardizing an investigation

The bill does not expand what type of evidence law enforcement can collect and ensures all subpoenas remain subject to judicial review.

We must ensure that child predators are brought to justice, and not tipped off by the systems that are meant to hold them accountable,” said Congressman Fry. “The Targeting Child Predators Act strikes a balance between protecting due process and giving law enforcement the tools they need to stop online exploitation before it’s too late. This legislation is a vital step toward protecting our children and ensuring investigators have the ability to act swiftly and effectively.

The Targeting Child Predators Act is supported by South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, Child Rescue Coalition, RAVEN, Major County Sheriffs of America, and the National Fraternal Order of Police.

The Targeting Child Predators Act gives law enforcement additional tools to ensure investigations can move swiftly and securely without giving child predators an opportunity to delete valuable evidence,” said South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson. “I support this legislation and commend Congressman Fry for his leadership in standing up for the safety of our children.”

The TCPA will streamline data access for law enforcement in child exploitation cases, without compromising their investigations, or repeatedly burdening the Judiciary, enabling quicker investigations to protect and rescue victims from online predators,” said the Child Rescue Coalition.

This bill is a commonsense step to help law enforcement move faster in child exploitation investigations,” said RAVEN Director of Legislative Affairs Jennifer Dunton. “By removing the extra step of seeking a court order just to delay user notification, we’re eliminating a procedural bottleneck that can cost investigators critical time. When children’s safety is on the line, we need to prioritize speed, discretion, and effectiveness — this bill does exactly that.

MCSA commends Congressman Fry for introducing the Targeting Child Predators Act,” said Major County Sheriffs of America Executive Director Megan Noland. “If those who target and exploit children are tipped off when a criminal investigation is underway, they can destroy evidence and complicate efforts to bring them to justice. This bill helps minimize that risk and improves our ability to hold offenders accountable. We encourage Congress to act on this important legislation.”

Congressman Fry serves on both the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the House Judiciary Committee. To stay up to date with Congressman Fry and his work for the Seventh District, follow his official Facebook, Instagram, and X pages and visit his website at fry.house.gov.

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Florida 20th district))

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Reps. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (FL-20), David Valado (CA-22), Vince Fong (CA-20), and Jim Costa (CA-21) introduced the Farm to Market Road Improvement Act. This bipartisan bill would make additional federal resources available to help repair and maintain the infrastructure that keeps America’s food supply chain moving.

“Farmers in the Glades rely on safe, drivable roads that allow them to feed families across both our state and nation,” said Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick. “I’m proud to introduce this bipartisan piece of legislation to protect our agricultural backbone, repair local infrastructure, and strengthen our supply chains.”

“The Central Valley is the backbone of our nation’s food supply, but after years of wear and tear from heavy trucks, many of our rural roads are in desperate need of repair,” said Congressman Valadao. “This bipartisan bill gives our communities access to the federal resources needed to repair and strengthen critical infrastructure, and I’m proud to lead this effort to support our farmers, grow our economy, and keep America’s food supply chain moving.”

“My district is one of the top agricultural producing regions in the nation, and I’m proud to partner with Congressman Valadao to create another resource to improve roadways in the Central Valley,” said Congressman Fong. “By investing in our rural infrastructure we’re supporting the hardworking farmers who feed America and strengthening the supply chain that keeps our economy moving.”

“Our farmers grow the food that feeds the nation, but they can’t do it without reliable roads to get their goods to market. The Farm to Market Roads Improvement Act ensures that rural communities like those in the San Joaquin Valley aren’t left behind,” said Congressman Costa. “By setting aside dedicated funding for farm-to-market road projects, we’re investing in the backbone of America’s agricultural economy and strengthening our rural infrastructure.”

“Palm Beach County, Florida supports resources to agricultural and rural communities to assist in repairing Farm to Market roads as efficiently as possible, so that agricultural products can be transported safely and quickly from farms to consumers,” said Maria G. Marino, Mayor, Palm Beach County, FL. “We support the legislative efforts of Reps. Valadao, Cherfilus-McCormick, Fong and Costa to define Farm-to-Market Roads in eligible counties, ensuring that 10% of the Rural Transportation Grant Program is directed to these crucial agricultural roadways.”

“Reps. Valadao, Cherfilus-McCormick, Fong, and Costa’s legislation directs more federal transportation funding to communities like Tulare County,” said Tulare County Association of Governments Chairman Rudy Mendoza. “Our roads are used not only by residents traveling to work, but by agricultural goods on their way to markets across the world. This bill recognizes the national economic impact of our region and we appreciate our Congressional delegation’s continued support.”

“Our local economy depends on safe, reliable infrastructure to move agricultural goods efficiently from the fields to the market,” said Kings County Supervisor Doug Verboon. “Farm-to-market roads are vital for connecting growers to processors, distributors, and markets across the region. The Farm to Market Road Improvement Act recognizes the unique transportation needs of rural farming communities and delivers the kind of targeted federal investment needed to maintain and modernize these critical routes.”

“We welcome Rep. Valadao’s attention on this issue, particularly at a time when investments in our nation’s rural infrastructure continues to lag behind our more urban areas,” said Shannon Douglass, President, California Farm Bureau. “As we like to say—food security is national security—and this legislation would help provide a much-needed boost towards protecting our critical food supply chains.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Zinke Celebrates Butte VA Clinic Renaming in Honor of RFC Charlie Dowd

    Source:

(Butte, MT.) Today, Western Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke attended the renaming ceremony for the Butte Veterans Affairs (VA) Clinic, which is now officially named the “Charlie Dowd Department of Veterans Affairs Clinic.” Congressman Zinke introduced the legislation to rename the clinic in January of 2024, with companion legislation introduced by Senator Steve Daines. The legislation was signed into law in July of 2024.

“Today was a deeply meaningful day as we renamed the Butte VA Clinic in honor of Radioman Charlie Dowd, a Pearl Harbor and WWII hero, and truly incredible American who dedicated his life after the Navy to serving Montana,” said Congressman Zinke

Zinke continued, “I had the privilege of visiting with Charlie many times over the years, and I’ll never forget listening to him share stories from Pearl Harbor and the South Pacific. Even at 99, he could still fit into his uniform and tap out Morse code like he did in the service. The ‘Charlie Dowd Department of Veterans Affairs Clinic’ will serve as a lasting reminder of Devil Dog Dowd’s legacy of bravery and lifelong commitment to his country, his fellow veterans, and his community.”

Charlie Dowd enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January 1941 and served as a radioman at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. During the infamous attack on December 7, 1941, which damaged 21 ships and claimed the lives of 2,400 Americans, Charlie, in a t-shirt and trousers, sprinted from the barracks to the armory, where he climbed to the roof to fire at the Japanese enemy aircraft, namely low-flying torpedo bombers. Through his act of bravery and continued service in the Navy in both the Solomon Islands and New Guinea, he earned the nickname “Devil Dog Dowd” from his shipmates for his unwavering willingness to volunteer for the most dangerous mission assignments.

After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy along with seven Bronze Star Medals, Charlie became a respected member of the Anaconda, Montana, community. He was known for his advocacy on behalf of fellow veterans, his dedication to preserving the memory of the events of World War II, and his active membership in the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. Charlie loved speaking to civic groups and museums across Montana. He was also an avid sportsman and served as an outdoor writer for the Anaconda Leader newspaper.

After Dowd’s passing in March 2023, Congressman Zinke honored him in the Congressional Record. Read the issue here.

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Frank J. Mrvan released the statement below following the announcement regarding Nippon Steel.

“From the very beginning of this proposed acquisition, I was steadfast in voicing serious concerns about the implications of foreign ownership – particularly Nippon Steel’s record on trade practices – and the critical importance of preserving American control over our steel production, which is vital to our national security.

“In the months since, as the Vice Chairman of the Congressional Steel Caucus, I’ve listened closely to the many voices raised across the political spectrum, including from the prior administration and the Trump Administration.  It is clear that this unified front of concern and advocacy played a crucial role in shaping the terms, incentives, and safeguards now in place.

“Thanks to this persistent and bipartisan pressure, we are in a stronger, more secure position today than we were at the time of the initial announcement.  But let me be clear: this is not the end of our oversight.  Nippon Steel must be held to every promise made – from promises to the hardworking steelworkers of Northwest Indiana and the City of Gary, to the economic and strategic interests of the United States.  We will not hesitate to act if those commitments are broken.”

“Increasing the production and availability of homegrown biofuels is a critical piece of the puzzle when it comes to the all-of-the-above energy policy we need to stay ahead,” said Co-chair Craig. “I’m proud to be relaunching the Biofuels Caucus alongside my bipartisan colleagues this Congress so we can continue our work to lower prices at the pump, create opportunities for local producers and strengthen our energy security.”

“American biofuel producers have an untapped ability to power the future of liquid fuels, whether ethanol blends, biodiesel, or sustainable aviation fuel,” said Co-chair Smith. “Advancing sound policy can unlock billions of dollars in savings at the pump and hundreds of thousands of added jobs for the American people. I thank Co-chairs Craig and Pocan and congratulate Co-chairs Hinson, Fedorchak, and Budzinski for joining me to strengthen this bipartisan caucus and continue working to inform our colleagues in the House of the value of biofuels for American energy abundance.”

“I am glad to join my colleagues in the Congressional Biofuels Caucus,” said Co-chair Pocan. “Corn growers in Wisconsin deserve to have an even playing field in the market dominated by the oil and gas industry. This Caucus will showcase how biofuels can help us reach our emissions reduction goals while investing in rural jobs and infrastructure.”

“Biofuels are a growing part of America’s energy strategy and another way North Dakota is helping fuel the world,” said Co-chair Fedorchak. “It’s an honor to serve as a co-chair of this bipartisan caucus to advance policies that will help expand domestic energy production, empower rural America, and deliver practical solutions for North Dakotans.”

“I came to Congress to be a strong voice for the people of Central and Southern Illinois—especially our hardworking farmers. Few issues are more critical to their success than strengthening the biofuels industry and expanding market opportunities,” said Co-chair Budzinski. “That’s why promoting the use of homegrown, sustainable biofuels has been a central focus of my work in Congress, and I’m looking forward to continuing that commitment as co-chair of this bipartisan caucus.

The Congressional Biofuels Caucus advocates for policies which reflect the capacity of American biofuels producers to meet the demand for reliable and affordable liquid fuels while growing rural economies, high-paying jobs, and value-added markets for agricultural commodities. The caucus recognizes biofuels are key to American energy independence and responsible stewardship of our resources.

Additional members of the caucus include: Reps. Dusty Johnson (R-SD), Darin LaHood (R-IL), Jim Baird (R-IN), Scott Peters (D-CA), Tom Emmer (R-MN), Andre Carson (D-IN), Ann Wagner (R-MO), Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO), James Comer (R-KY), Brett Guthrie (R-KY), Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR), Sam Graves (R-MO), Don Bacon (R-NE), Mike Bost (R-IL), Pete Stauber (R-MN), Michelle Fischbach (R-MN), Randy Feenstra (R-IA), Marianette Miller Meeks (R-IA), Zach Nunn (R-IA), Mike Flood (R-NE), Eric Sorensen (D-IL), Brad Finstad (R-MN), Tracey Mann (R-KS), Derrick Van Orden (R-WI), Mark Alford (R-MO), Sharice Davids (D-KS), Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-MI), Brian Jack (R-GA), and Mark Messmer (R-IN).

  • MIL-OSI USA: Vice Ranking Member Amo Introduces R.U.B.I.O. Act After Secretary Rubio Obscures Dire State of Food Aid for Starving Kids

Source: US Congressman Gabe Amo (Rhode Island 1st District)

The Reaffirming Unified Boundaries for Integrity and Oversight (R.U.B.I.O.) Act would ensure the Secretary of State is only doing one job.

WASHINGTON, DC – House Foreign Affairs Vice Ranking Member Gabe Amo (D-RI), introduced the Reaffirming Unified Boundaries for Integrity and Oversight or R.U.B.I.O. Act to prohibit the Secretary of State from taking on additional roles in the Federal government while serving as Secretary.

To ensure that Secretaries of State have adequate time and attention to manage our nation’s foreign policy, this legislation requires that the Secretary of State do only the job the Senate confirmed them to do – serve as Secretary of State.

“Foreign aid should be a foreign policy priority, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio is dropping the ball. In my questioning yesterday in the House Foreign Affairs Committee, our Secretary didn’t know the true state of the delayed contracts for Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food aid manufactured by Rhode Island nonprofit, Edesia Nutrition, meant to save the lives of starving children around the world” said Vice Ranking Member Amo (D-RI). “To ensure Secretary Rubio can focus on preventing children from starving while supporting American jobs, I’m introducing the R.U.B.I.O. Act toprevent the Secretary of State from holding more than one job. This bill just makes sure our food aid programs don’t fall through the cracks and the Secretary has the time and energy to do his job well.”

Watch Vice Ranking Member Amo’s Questioning of Secretary Rubio Here.

    BACKGROUND

On May 21, 2025, Amo questioned Secretary Rubio about the ready-to-use therapeutic food aid program that has been impacted by the Department’s work stoppage orders and disorganization. In the hearing, Rubio confirmed Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTF) produced by Rhode Island’s Edesia Nutrition is lifesaving aid and Amo pressed the Secretary to do everything to keep starving children from dying.

Amo has been trying to hold Rubio accountable to solve State Department administrative problems that threaten Rhode Island jobs and prevent life saving aid from reaching starving children for months.

On January 31, 2025, Amo asked Secretary Rubiofor information on the Trump administration’s unilateral foreign aid pause impact on the production and delivery of Rhode Island-made RUTFs. Amo called outSecretary Rubio for missing a deadline to provide clarity on foreign aid distribution on February 7.

(May 22, 2025) WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) released the following statement after the House passed its reconciliation package, a historic piece of legislation that delivers middle-class tax relief, unleashes American energy and innovation, and roots out waste, fraud, and abuse.

Kean said, “We did it. The House just passed the Reconciliation package, a major step forward that delivers important wins for New Jerseyans and all Americans. I stood up for New Jersey every step of the way, even when it meant standing alone or standing against my own party’s leadership. I led the fight to restore our property tax deduction, and we won. The House bill restores the full SALT deduction for middle-class families, providing up to $40,000 in deductibility.

“On healthcare, we protected Medicaid for every intended beneficiary in New Jersey and across the country and stopped illegal immigrants from stealing taxpayer-funded benefits. By rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse, we can ensure that this vital program is there for current and future generations of Americans. We also boosted the Child Tax Credit to $2,500, giving young families a much-needed return at a time when they need it most. We secured critical relief for Somerset and Morris Counties and the whole state of New Jersey by providing tens of millions of dollars for local and state law enforcement, ensuring they are supported while protecting President Trump over the next four years. We continued delivering for the American people by voting to secure our borders, unleash American energy and innovation, and invest in national security, all while cutting wasteful spending and making the federal government more efficient, accountable, and effective.

“This bill lays the foundation for a stronger, more affordable America for middle-class families in the Seventh District, but the fight doesn’t stop here. I will continue advocating for the hardworking taxpayers in New Jersey until this bill reaches the President’s desk.”

Key Wins in the House Reconciliation Package for New Jersey and the Nation:

    • SALT Deduction Raised: Raises the cap on the State and Local Tax deduction to $40,000, providing major relief for all middle-class families.

    • Medicaid Integrity Restored: Ensures benefits go only to eligible recipients and that those who are able to contribute to their community are doing so in order to receive Medicaid benefits. Preserves funding for New Jersey’s hospitals, nursing homes, and other providers.

    • Secret Service Reimbursement Secured: Secures vital federal support for local and state law-enforcement who provide protection when President Trump is at his home in Bedminster.

    • Border Security Strengthened: Provides resources to support border patrol agents, detect illegal drug smuggling, and secure our southern border.

    • American Energy Independence Advanced: Unleashes American energy production to help us meet our growing energy needs.

    • Child Tax Credit Boosted: Increased to $2,500, offering direct support for families after years of rising costs.

    • PBM Reform Achieved: Cracks down on abusive middlemen in the prescription drug market to lower costs for Medicare and consumers.

    • “Doc Fix” Enacted: Addresses long-standing Medicare physician payment issues to ensure that New Jersey’s doctors receive fair reimbursement for their important services.

    • Orphan Cures Act Passed: Eliminates a misguided law that slowed the development of drugs for patients with rare diseases. Many of these treatments are developed by New Jersey’s unparalleled biotech innovation industry.

    • Air Traffic Control Modernized: Delivers a $12.5 billion investment to overhaul, modernize, and staff our air traffic control system.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Moran Applauds House Passage of ‘One, Big, Beautiful Bill’ to Reignite the American Dream

    Source: Congressman Nathaniel Moran (R-TX-01)

Today, Congressman Nathaniel Moran (R-TX-01) released the following statement after the House passed the “One, Big, Beautiful Bill,” sending it to the Senate for consideration:

Washington, D.C.—Today, Congressman Nathaniel Moran (R-TX-01) released the following statement after the House passed the “One, Big, Beautiful Bill,” sending it to the Senate for consideration:

“With today’s passage of the One, Big, Beautiful Bill, House Republicans delivered on the promises we made to the American people. This legislation puts working families, small businesses, and rural communities back at the center of our economic future—right where they belong.

“In Texas’ First Congressional District, where the median income is just $62,000, a family of four was on track to see their taxes increase by over $1,100—a staggering 22% hike—had we failed to act. That’s six weeks’ worth of groceries. That’s money that could fix a truck, invest in a small business, or be saved for a child’s future. By passing this bill, we’ve protected those hard-earned dollars. But more than that, we’ve advanced liberty by empowering families, workers, and small businesses to thrive without the government taking more of what they earn. This bill expands opportunity, restores dignity in work, and strengthens the American Dream. That’s worth fighting for.”

    Watch Congressman Moran’s Full Remarks
    HERE

Background on the “One, Big, Beautiful Bill”:

    For Small Businesses:

    • Makes permanent the 199A small business deduction and expands to 23%, supporting over 1 million new jobs and generating $750 billion in economic growth

    • Reinstates immediate expensing for R&D

    • Revitalizes American manufacturing by renewing 100% immediate expensing for new factories, equipment, and facility improvements

    • Doubles section 179 Small Business Expensing to $2.5 million, allowing small businesses to invest in their employees

    • Reduces administrative burdens by repealing the Democrats’ $600 1099-K gig worker rule, and re-setting it to $2,000 threshold

    For Families:

    • Expands tax relief for families and seniors—including no tax on tips, relief on car loan interest, tax relief for those working overtime, and additional tax relief for seniors

    • Expands the enhanced standard deduction and increases the Child Tax Credit for over 40 millions families

    • Empowers working families through permanent paid leave tax credits, expanded child care access, and new savings accounts for every child at birth

    • Increases access to the Adoption Tax Credit for those families looking to change the lives of our little ones through the gift of adoption

    For Rural America:

    • Protects family farms and rural small businesses by making the doubled Death Tax exemption permanent and increasing it

    • Revives and expands Opportunity Zones to bring $100 billion in investment to rural and distressed communities

    • Unleashes rural growth with 100% expensing for new factories, agricultural improvements, and equipment—empowering producers to expand and invest

    For the Broader Economy:

    What’s at Stake:

    • Without this bill, a family of four earning the national median income ($80,610) will face a $1,695 tax hike starting in 2026—equal to 9 weeks of groceries

    • In Texas’ First Congressional District, families earning the median income of $62,182 will see a $1,142 increase—a staggering 22% spike in their tax bill

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Bean Applauds Signing the ‘Pam Rock Act’ into Law, Strengthening Letter Carrier Protections

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Aaron Bean Florida (4th District)

WASHINGTON—U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean (FL-04) released the following statement after Governor Ron DeSantis signed the Pam Rock Act into law, a critical state measure to strengthen the safety of Postal Service workers by enhancing how Florida identifies and regulates dangerous dogs.

The legislation honors Pamela “Pam” Rock, a local letter carrier, who tragically lost her life in 2022 after sustaining injuries while delivering mail in Northeast Florida.

“Today, Florida sends a clear message: moments matter, and we will not wait for another tragedy to act,” said Congressman Bean. “With the Governor’s signature, Florida is taking meaningful steps to ensure our dedicated letter carriers are protected from dogs with violent histories. Pam’s story moved hearts across Florida, and now her name will stand as a symbol of safety and change. I am incredibly grateful to Representative Sapp and Senator Collins for their outstanding leadership in getting this bill across the finish line.”

     ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The Rock family reached out to Congressman Bean’s office in 2023, determined to turn their grief into advocacy. What began as a heartfelt plea for change soon transformed into a statewide movement. Congressman Bean partnered with Congresswoman Kat Cammack to pass federal legislation renaming the Melrose Post Office in Pam Rock’s honor.

H.B. 593, the Pam Rock Act, championed in the Florida Legislature by State Representative Judson Sapp and State Senator Jay Collins, requires owners of dogs that have attacked humans, severely injured or killed pets, or menacingly chased people to carry liability insurance of at least $100,000. The law will officially take effect starting July 1, 2025.

According to the US Postal Service, more than 5,400 postal employees were attacked by dogs in the United States in 2021. Florida was one of the top 10 states for dog bites, with 201 reported incidents last year, according to USPS.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Sara Jacobs Calls Out Trump Administration For Failing to Prioritize Sudan

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-CA-53)

    May 22, 2025

Rep. Sara Jacobs (CA-51), Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, today called out the Trump Administration for failing to prioritize Sudan and helping to bring an end to the war and genocide in Sudan.

Watch Rep. Sara Jacobs’ Opening Remarks Here

    Rep. Sara Jacobs said:

“Thank you, Chairman Smith, and thank you to all of our witnesses joining us today to testify and bring attention to the ongoing catastrophe in Sudan. Last month marked two years since the outbreak of war in Sudan. It is now the largest humanitarian crisis in the world. Nearly 25 million people – half of Sudan’s population – are facing acute hunger, and more than half a million people are facing famine. More than 13 million Sudanese have been displaced from their homes since the conflict began, including nearly four million people forced to flee across Sudan’s borders as refugees. I have seen this suffering firsthand when I traveled to Chad and met with Sudanese refugees last year.

“And let’s be clear: this is a war of choice. The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), and allied militias have waged this war, committing war crimes and holding the Sudanese people captive for their own selfish interests. And their external backers, particularly the United Arab Emirates with their support to the RSF, in addition to Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Russia, have turned this war into a regional proxy war by supporting and arming either side, risking further regional destabilization.

“But despite this, the Trump Administration is nowhere to be found. In fact, the Administration’s actions have only worsened the suffering of the Sudanese people. The Trump Administration’s sham “foreign assistance review” was really just a pretext to end most foreign assistance – like food aid, disaster relief, global health programs, development and economic aid, and more. In Sudan, it’s meant cancelling millions of dollars in U.S.-funded life-saving aid. For instance, before it was illegally dismantled, USAID was supporting the heroic efforts of the Sudanese Emergency Response Rooms (ERRs) to open community kitchens and provide basic meals to Sudanese civilians throughout the country. Following the massive cuts to U.S. foreign assistance, which included USAID support to the ERRs, more than 80% of the roughly 1500 community kitchens across Sudan have been forced to close their doors – cutting off vulnerable Sudanese civilians from life-saving food assistance.

“And the Administration hasn’t stopped there. Yesterday, they announced over $87 million worth of cancelled humanitarian programs, including $30 million for emergency nutrition, water, and food aid in Darfur. The SAF and the RSF continue to commit atrocities against the Sudanese people, and the people of Darfur are facing a second genocide in 20 years at the hands of the RSF. Yet despite the clear need for the United States to play an active role in negotiations to end this brutal conflict, the Trump Administration has failed to dedicate the resources necessary to do so.

“More than four months into President Trump’s term, the Administration has still failed to nominate an Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of African Affairs at the State Department, an NSC Senior Director for Africa, or a Special Envoy for Sudan – a position the Administration is required by law to fill. And just yesterday, during Secretary Rubio’s testimony, he actually refused to say the word genocide and reaffirm his previous statements that the RSF is in fact committing a genocide.

“These actions – or lack thereof – show that Sudan is not a priority for the Trump Administration. And while the Administration ignores the conflict and its human consequences, it chooses instead to provide weapons to the UAE – a country that is arming the RSF, fueling the war and facilitating a genocide in Darfur. There is widespread and credible reporting that the UAE continues to funnel arms to the RSF, even though the UAE continues to deny this publicly. But instead of pressuring the UAE to stop arming the RSF forces currently carrying out a genocide, the Trump Administration has chosen to blow through a Congressional hold by Ranking Member Meeks and proceed with arms sales worth more than $1 billion.

“Just as I did under the Biden Administration, I believe that the United States needs to use its significant leverage with the UAE to pressure them to finally end their support to the RSF. That is why I, along with Ranking Member Meeks, introduced Joint Resolutions of Disapproval last week to block the Administration’s arms sales to the UAE. If the United States wanted to, we could take tangible actions and make sensible policy decisions that would help bring an end to the war in Sudan and a sustainable peace agreement that ends military rule, establishes a civilian government, and provides a clear roadmap to democratic elections. Instead, this Administration seems to be ignoring the problem and selling weapons that are fueling genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and ethnic cleansing.

“The Sudanese people have suffered enough. It is time for the United States and the international community to step up and focus on bringing an end to this war so that the Sudanese people can finally rebuild their country. Thank you, Chairman Smith, and with that, I yield back.”

Congress must do more to support working families. That’s why I voted NO on President Trump’s big ugly budget bill – because it hurts everyday Americans by taking away health care, food assistance, and economic stability, all so Republicans can give massive tax breaks to billionaires and corporations.

    Trump’s Big Ugly Bill Highlights:

    • 13.7 million Americans will lose health care coverage due to cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act
    • 18 million children will lose their school lunches and experience food insecurity
    • $3.8 trillion will be added to America’s national debt – bringing our already ballooning debt to $40 trillion

According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, 13.7 million Americans would lose their health coverage under this plan, including seniors, children, and people with disabilities. It also proposes the deepest cuts to food assistance in our nation’s history, stripping SNAP benefits from at least 3 million people a month and putting 18 million children at risk of losing their school lunches.

Republicans have decided to give benefits to the uber wealthy at the expense of the people who are already hurting the most. Under Trump’s plan, someone making over $1 million a year gets an $82,000 tax cut, while hard working Americans are left to pay more for groceries, health care, and energy. It’s a clear case of billionaires winning and working families losing.

Despite cutting vital services, the Republicans’ budget still adds $3.8 trillion to the national debt, threatening our economic stability and driving up inflation. Our kids and grandkids are going to be paying for Republicans’ utterly irresponsible budget.

For months, my Democratic colleagues and I have advocated against these proposed budget cuts. Last week, when Republicans jammed their Medicaid cuts through the Energy & Commerce Committee in the middle of the night, I fought to defend Americans’ health care for over 26 hours straight.

The American people deserve better. That’s why I voted NO today. This fight is not over: along with fellow House Democrats, I will continue to oppose any budget that prioritizes the wealthy few at the expense of the many.

Texas has been on the front lines of the previous administration’s irresponsible open-border policy and has apprehended over 531,700 illegal aliens, at a significant cost to Texas taxpayers. I am pleased to see this victory achieved and remain committed to delivering more results for Texans and all Americans in the 119th Congress.”

    • Permanently securing our southern border with funding for wall construction, new border agents, and additional security measures.
    • Strengthens and restores the integrity of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to ensure it is a temporary life vest for the needy—not a lifestyle.
    • Modernizes air traffic control, making our skies safer and air travel more efficient.

Washington, D.C. – Early this morning, Rep. Becca Balint (VT-AL), member of the House Budget Committee, released the below statement after the passage of the Republican budget that guts Medicaid, food assistance and other critical programs that Americans rely on.

The Republican plan includes over $800 billion in cuts that would decimate Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. These cuts will put rural hospitals at risk of immediate closure. It would kick nearly 14 million Americans off their health insurance and throw at least 3 million people off food assistance, all to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and massive corporations. The bill passed the House with all Democrats voting no.

“A budget is a reflection of our values: what we view as the most important and who we view as the most important. And it’s not you and your family or me and mine. It’s about propping up billionaires and kicking the rest of us in the teeth while they do it,” said Rep. Balint. “This bill comes after the poorest among us to give to the richest. Americans are already struggling to put food on the table, afford for medications, and pay rent in an economy rigged against working people. This bill stands to make that reality much more painful.”

“And this massive wealth transfer, passed in the middle of the night, will only exacerbate the already obscene wealth inequality in this country. I was sent to Congress to fight for the needs of working people, to stand up for the rights of every Vermonter and every American. I voted ‘hell no’ on this devastating budget because lives are on the line. Americans deserve so much better than this awful bill. I promise to keep fighting. It’s not over yet.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congresswoman Lauren Boebert’s Bipartisan Zip Code Bill Passes Through Committee

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Lauren Boebert (Colorado, 3)

EATON, CO— Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (CO-04) successfully passed her bipartisan Zip Code bill, H.R. 3095, through the House Oversight Committee this morning. H.R. 3095 directs the United States Postal Service to create unique zip codes for more than 65 cities, towns, and communities across the country. The bill, which includes a dozen communities in Colorado and 30 cosponsors, is a reintroduction of the Congresswoman’s similar effort in the 118th Congress which passed through the U.S. House in December 2024.

Cities and towns like Castle Pines, Lone Tree, and Severance all have their sales tax revenue, insurance rates, mail delivery rates, and response times for first responders negatively impacted by the lack of a unique zip code for their community. This legislation will address these issues and directly improve the quality of life for Coloradans and Americans living in these communities.

“For too long, small cities and towns across Colorado and America have been stuck with higher insurance rates, longer response times, inconsistent mail delivery, and less revenue for public services because they lack their own unique zip code,” said Congresswoman Boebert. “It may not be an issue that draws headlines, but zip code reform is a topic I continue to be passionate about because it impacts the daily lives of so many small-town residents in the 4th District and beyond. Mayors and community leaders from every part of Colorado have made it clear fixing this problem is a priority for them and I am determined to finish the job this Congress after getting our bill through the House Oversight Committee this morning.”

“We are so appreciative of Congresswoman Boebert’s leadership in addressing the vast number of challenges communities face with the USPS across the country,” said Castle Pines Mayor Tracy Engerman. “Lauren’s bill includes over 65 communities that have worked for years, and in some cases decades, to get a unique zip code from the USPS. We value our relationship with the Congresswoman and, on behalf of our National Zip Code Coalition, I personally want to thank her for unwavering leadership on this issue. Lauren knows this is not a partisan issue and has worked across the aisle to make this bill happen. I believe this will be the year that she gets this bill through Congress.”

“The Postal Service structures the delivery of mail around ZIP Codes—five-digit numbers that organize how to deliver the mail. H.R. 3095, which will create new ZIP Codes for communities across the nation, is the product of various Members’ advocacy. I thank Rep. Boebert for her work on this bill,” said House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (KY-01).

    BACKGROUND:

The full text of Congresswoman Boebert’s H.R. 3095 can be read HERE. The Congresswoman’s remarks from today’s Committee hearing can be found HERE.

The following news stories are a mixture of recent news articles and coverage on Congresswoman Boebert’s previous effort on zip codes in the 118th Congress:

Fox 31: Proposed bill could give these Colorado areas a new zip code

CBS News Colorado: New zip codes could improve Colorado towns’ income, safety

The Orange County Register: Could North Tustin get its own zip code? Proposed congressional effort underway to do that

The Zip Code system was instituted in America in the 1960s. The Postal Service utilizes the zip code system to deliver mail, but it is also heavily used and relied on by economic developers, insurers and emergency personnel.

Communities that do not have a unique Zip Code often experience associated problems that include the loss of economic development, loss of sales tax, unjustifiably high insurance rates, tax remittance and commercial licensing issues, diminished public safety and reduced emergency response times, identity issues, and efficiency issues.

For example, first responders often go to the wrong streets and people needing help experience delays due to Zip Code issues that would be addressed by this legislation.

Small towns and cities can petition the Postal Service for a new Zip Code but it is rarely approved and if it is denied they cannot appeal this decision for up to 10 years. Congress has intervened on these matters and last passed a law enacting four new Zip Codes through the Post Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006.

The current list of 30 cosponsors for H.R. 3095 includes Rep. Young Kim [CA-40], Rep. Brittany Pettersen [CO-07], Rep. Jason Crow [CO-06], Rep. Gabe Evans [CO-08], Rep. Joe Courtney [CT-02], Rep. • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Fitzgerald Statement on the Passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05)

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) issued the following statement in response to the passage of the House Republican budget bill, better known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

“This legislation is a victory for working Americans across the nation and delivers on our promise to bring tax relief, reduce government waste, and secure our border. It delivers the largest tax cut in American history—returns an average of $5,000 in annual take-home pay to hardworking Americans, makes the Trump Tax Cuts permanent, and increases the child tax credit. By eliminating taxes on tips and overtime pay, we’re ensuring that workers keep more of their hard-earned income.

“The reconciliation bill also provides significant relief to seniors through a deduction of taxes on Social Security benefits. It protects America’s family farmers by preventing the death tax from impacting nearly two million farms—safeguarding generational livelihoods.

“It also strengthens Medicaid by rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse. It removes 1.4 million illegal aliens who are fraudulently receiving benefits—ensuring that Medicaid serves those who need it most: the disabled, children, pregnant women, and seniors. Additionally, by implementing work requirements for able-bodied, working-age adults, we are prioritizing policies that lift Americans out of poverty and promote self-sufficiency. Improving the federal funding formula ensures that states like Wisconsin, who took a responsible/conservative approach to funding Medicaid, are not unfairly treated, allowing BadgerCare to better serve the most vulnerable residents.

“Recognizing that border security is national security, this bill fully funds the completion of President Trump’s border wall, increases the hiring of additional Border Patrol and ICE agents, and invests in large-scale deportation operations to remove illegal aliens and keep our communities safe.

“By passing the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, we’re delivering on the promises made to the American people and putting President Trump’s America First agenda where it belongs—front and center.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Jonathan L. Jackson Condemns Republican Tax Scam Slashing Social SafetyNet, Harming Illinois Chicago Families; Introduces Amendments to Protect Constituents

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Jonathan Jackson – Illinois (1st District)

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Jonathan L. Jackson (IL-01) fiercely denounced the Republican budget proposals that prioritize massive tax giveaways for corporations and the wealthiest Americans, funded by devastating cuts to essential social safety net programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, and Medicare. These cuts would directly harm hundreds of thousands of residents in Illinois’ First Congressional District and the City of Chicago.

“The Republican budget is a morally bankrupt document that seeks to balance the books on the backs of our most vulnerable citizens – our children, our seniors, and our working families. To propose a tax scam that lavishes benefits on the ultra-rich while snatching food from hungry mouths and denying essential healthcare to those in need is an outrage,” said Congressman Jonathan L. Jackson. “In the First District and across Chicago, these are not abstract numbers; these are our neighbors, our grandparents, and the children in our communities. I grew up understanding the importance of a strong community and a supportive safety net. Gutting SNAP, Medicaid, and Medicare is a direct assault on the well-being of the people I represent and a betrayal of our nation’s values. I will fight these catastrophic cuts every step of the way.”

In a direct effort to shield his constituents and vulnerable Americans from the most damaging aspects of these proposals, Congressman Jackson introduced three amendments to the bill. Notably, his Amendment #31 sought to prevent Republicans from raising the age of work requirements to receive SNAP benefits, a change that would disproportionately harm older workers and those nearing retirement.

The Republican budget outlines draconian cuts that would have severe consequences:

    • Slashing SNAP: The plan calls for a $300 billion cut to SNAP nationally, which would strip food assistance from millions.
      • Impact on IL-01 & Chicago: In Illinois’ First Congressional District, 139,900 households, representing 233,900 people, relied on SNAP as of March 2024. These families, including many children and seniors, would face increased hunger and hardship. Across Cook County, hundreds of thousands more depend on this vital program to put food on the table. Proposed changes, such as increasing work requirement ages, which Congressman Jackson fought against, would exacerbate this crisis.
    • Devastating Medicaid: Proposed cuts to Medicaid range from $715 billion to over $880 billion nationally, potentially forcing millions to lose their health coverage, including essential long-term care for seniors.
      • Impact on IL-01 & Chicago: As of October 2023, 321,000 individuals in the First District were enrolled in Medicaid. In Cook County, approximately 154,719 seniors (aged 60+) rely on Medicaid (May 2024 data), many for nursing home care and in-home support. These proposed cuts threaten their access to critical medical services.
    • Undermining Medicare: Republican tax plans could trigger automatic cuts to Medicare exceeding $500 billion nationally due to PAYGO rules, jeopardizing the healthcare security of seniors who have paid into this program their entire working lives.
      • Impact on IL-01 & Chicago: In Illinois’ First Congressional District alone, 120,682 residents are Medicare beneficiaries (December 2023). Across Cook County, 729,299 individuals rely on Medicare (May 2024). These cuts could mean higher out-of-pocket costs and reduced access to doctors and treatments for our seniors.

These proposed cuts are not about fiscal responsibility; they are about funding tax breaks for the wealthiest 1% and large corporations at the expense of everyday Americans. Cutting these essential programs will lead to increased poverty, worse health outcomes, and greater economic instability for families in Chicago and across the country.

Congressman Jackson stands firmly against this Republican Tax Scam and calls on his colleagues to reject these cruel and counterproductive measures. He remains committed to protecting and strengthening the social safety net that provides a lifeline for so many, ensuring that every resident of the First District has the opportunity to live with dignity and security.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Gabe Vasquez Opposes House Republican Bill That Slashes Health Care and Essential Services for New Mexicans

Source: US Representative Gabe Vasquez’s (NM-02)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) voted against the House Republican reconciliation package, titled the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” citing its devastating impact on working families, rural communities, and public health in New Mexico. The bill imposes deep cuts to Medicaid, food assistance, and rural hospitals, while handing permanent tax breaks to billionaires and corporations.

“This bill takes food and health care away from our families so the ultra-wealthy can get another tax cut,” said Vasquez. “In my district, it would rip away Medicaid from 29,000 people, slash food assistance for nearly 50,000 families, and put rural hospitals on the brink of closure. I came to Congress to fight for working people—not to help Elon Musk and his billionaire friends get richer.”

    The reconciliation package would:

    • Cut $698 billion from Medicaid, threatening care for over 35,000 New Mexicans.
    • Eliminate enhanced ACA tax credits, raising premiums and risking coverage loss for thousands.
    • Slash $267 billion from SNAP, cutting benefits for 120,000 New Mexicans—including 49,000 in NM-02—and costing New Mexico  $270 million.
    • Puts rural hospitals in New Mexico at risk of closure.
    • Add $3.8 trillion to the deficit while delivering 66% of tax breaks to the top 20% of earners.

While Republicans push tax cuts that overwhelmingly favor the rich, Vasquez has introduced and supported legislation that puts working families first:

    • The Boost the Middle Class Act – Expands the Earned Income Tax Credit by 10% and indexes it to inflation, putting more money into the pockets of working families.
    • The Tax Relief from Tariffs and High Costs Act – Offers a fully refundable 10% tax credit to households making under $100,000 to offset rising prices.
    • The Honor and Hire Veterans Act – Increases tax incentives for businesses to hire veterans.

As Congress debated the bill, Rep. Vasquez also fought for improvements, including his Honor Farmer Contracts Act to ensure USDA upholds contracts with farmers and the Affordable Insulin Now Act to cap insulin costs at $35/month for people with private insurance. However, Republicans blocked both amendments.

This vote underscores Rep. Vasquez’s commitment to protecting New Mexico’s working families, veterans, and rural communities. As House Republicans prioritize tax breaks for the wealthy at the expense of essential services, Vasquez continues to champion legislation that lowers costs, expands access to care, and delivers real relief to the people of southern New Mexico.
