Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Tracey Mann (Kansas, 1)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) voted to advance the One Big Beautiful Act. The bill fulfills priorities that Rep. Mann and President Trump campaigned on, including making the 2017 Trump tax cuts permanent, securing the nation’s borders, and reducing U.S. federal spending. The bill passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 215-214. Rep. Mann released the following statement after the vote:

“On November 5, 2024, 77 million Americans gave Washington, D.C. a mandate to get our country back on track,” said Rep. Mann. “Today, House Republicans delivered on that mandate by saving taxpayer dollars, securing our borders, investing in our nation’s defense, promoting hard work and the American dream, and most importantly, preventing Kansans from seeing an average tax hike of $2,200 next January. These are the commonsense policy solutions that the Big First District overwhelmingly voted for last November and I could not be prouder of what we were able to deliver for the country. I am hopeful the Senate will move quickly to get this bill over the finish line and look forward to President Trump signing it into law.”

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act:

    • Makes the 2017 Trump tax cuts permanent, protecting the average taxpayer from a 22% tax increase in January 2026
    • Eliminates taxes on tips, overtime pay, and car loan interest on American-made cars
    • Provides additional tax relief for seniors
    • Expands the 199A small business deduction to 23% and makes it permanent
    • Increases detention capacity for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and includes funding for ICE resources
    • Funds the completion of the border wall and invests in modern technology to assist with intercepting drugs and human smuggling at U.S. ports of entry
    • Invests $60 billion in strengthening the farm safety net by expanding crop insurance and updating reference prices
    • Closes loopholes in the law that allow states to waive work requirements for government assistance programs
    • Appropriates $12.5 billion to the Federal Aviation Administration for the modernization of air traffic control technology and infrastructure
    • Rescinds unobligated funds and eliminates Biden-era programs estimated to cost over $4 billion

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act will now go to the U.S. Senate for further consideration.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congresswoman Tenney Applauds the Passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22)

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today voted in favor of the historic One Big Beautiful Bill Act to deliver on President Trump’s America First Agenda.

This legislation passed the House by a vote of 215-214 with one voting present.

“The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which passed the House today, puts America First by making permanent the Trump Tax Cuts, providing ICE and the Department of Homeland Security the funding they need to build the wall and hire more agents to secure our borders, unleashing American energy production, and restoring common sense and sanity in our government,” said Congresswoman Tenney.

“House Republicans voted to prevent the largest tax hike in American History by preserving and expanding the 2017 Trump Tax Cuts. This legislation will now bring the most significant tax cut in American history, bringing an average of an extra $5,000 into our wallets. In addition, Americans earning between $30,000 and $80,000 will pay nearly 15% less in taxes. This legislation also includes President Trump’s promises of No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, and cutting taxes on Social Security recipients to benefit working-class Americans.

“NY-24 is the largest agricultural district in the Northeast; the One Big Beautiful Bill protects family farms by preventing the 6,804 family farms in our district from seeing their death tax exemption cut in half. Main Street businesses are also the backbone of our district, and this legislation protects the 199A Small Business Deduction to ensure the 40,720 small businesses in NY-24 are not hit by a 43.4% effective tax rate.

“This legislation also contains historic provisions to secure our borders and combat the migrant crisis by providing nearly $70 million to expand ICE detention centers, hire over 10,000 new ICE Agents, and finish the border wall. President Trump and House Republicans are also committed to protecting American family values and restoring sanity to federal policymaking. By including my legislation to end taxpayer funding for sex changes for children and repealing the Left’s Green New Scam, we are working to rid our federal government of waste, fraud, and abuse.

“Now, it is up to the Senate to unite around this legislation and get this One Big Beautiful Bill to the President’s desk to deliver on our promises to the American people. It was a great privilege to support this once-in-a-lifetime bill, and I am eager to see it signed into law!”

Washington, D.C. ─ Today, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) issued the following statement after voting against House Republicans’ reckless budget bill that would unleash pain on South Florida families.

“While House Republicans may have advanced this reckless bill in the dead of night, their catastrophic agenda is clear as day.

“I voted against their scheme because it would result in almost 14 million Americans losing health insurance, put more than 18 million kids at risk of losing their school meals, and lead to $500 billion in Medicare cuts. In other words, people will get sicker, hungrier, and poorer — all just to give billionaires a massive tax break.

“I will continue to fight back and do whatever it takes to protect South Florida families and small businesses who stand to suffer if this bill were to be signed into law.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Zinke Strips Public Lands Sales out of House Budget Reconciliation Fully endorses “One Big Beautiful Bill Act

Source: US Congressman Ryan Zinke (Western Montana)

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) Today, after unrelenting effort from Congressman Ryan Zinke (MT-01), a provision selling more than 450,000 acres of public land has been stripped from the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” also known as the House budget reconciliation. The provision passed out of the House Natural Resources Committee on May 6th, and after continual negotiations led by Zinke, was removed by the Rules Committee this afternoon. The Rules Committee is the last step before the bill goes to the House floor for a vote. The change was supported by Representatives Tory Downing (MT-02), Mike Simpson (ID-02) and hundreds of other members on both sides of the aisle.

Congressman Zinke has been clear on his opposition to selling public lands, especially by lowering the threshold for scrutiny by including it as part of the reconciliation process:

“This was my San Juan Hill; I do not support the widespread sale or transfer of public lands. Once the land is sold, we will never get it back. God isn’t creating more land,” said Zinke. “Public access, sportsmanship, grazing, tourism… our entire Montanan way of life is connected to our public lands. I don’t yield to pressure; I only yield to higher principle. There is a process to making sure that our lands are being used for the best benefit of the people.”

Zinke continued: “I’d like to thank Speaker Johnson for his leadership and listening to the concerns of the people of Montana and all Americans who love our public lands. I appreciate him working with me to get this done. I look forward to voting for the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ which delivers historic tax cuts for every American, makes Medicaid and SNAP stronger for American Citizens while removing illegal aliens from the rolls, and provides needed regulatory relief to get our economy back on track.”

“The TRCP is encouraged to see provisions removed from the House budget reconciliation bill that would sell off public lands. Hunters and anglers stepped into the arena to make their voices heard, and members of Congress listened—thank you,” said Joel Pedersen, president and CEO of the Missoula based Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership. “In particular, we thank Congressman Zinke for his strident advocacy on behalf of America’s hunters, anglers, and outdoor recreationists. We look forward to working with lawmakers to resolve challenges with public lands management, including housing affordability.”

“Hunters and anglers across America appreciate the efforts of Congressman Zinke and members of the House leadership to keep public lands in public hands,” said Chris Wood, President and CEO of Trout Unlimited. “Public lands are the backyard of the little guy, and we appreciate the House keeping it that way.”

“As a Montanan, a lifelong outdoorsman, NA board chair for BHA, and director of conservation for MeatEater, a business that was founded on the virtues of public lands, I’m proud and grateful that Congressman Zinke has the gumption to stand up for his constituents,” said Ryan Callaghan, Director of Conservation at MeatEater. “The Congressman is showing the type of leadership we need right now, huge thank you from all of us public landowners.”

“Congressman Zinke’s leadership was instrumental in removing a public lands sell-off proposal from the budget reconciliation process,” said Jessica Turner, President, Outdoor Recreation Roundtable. “At a time when gateway communities and outdoor recreation businesses need certainty and access, Congressman Zinke stood up for the economic, health, and cultural value of keeping our public lands public. Outdoor Recreation Roundtable and the $1.2 trillion outdoor recreation industry applaud his work to safeguard these shared spaces, and we look forward to continuing to work with him to ensure public lands remain a cornerstone of America’s economy and way of life.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Gabe Vasquez Secures First Major Win for Bipartisan Public Lands Caucus by Blocking Public Lands Sell-Off

Source: US Representative Gabe Vasquez’s (NM-02)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) announced the first major victory for the newly formed Bipartisan Public Lands Caucus, which he co-founded earlier this year. Thanks to strong opposition from the caucus, a controversial provision that would have authorized the sale of thousands of acres of public land in Utah and Nevada has been removed from the final Republican reconciliation bill.

“Stripping this dangerous amendment to sell off our public lands from the final reconciliation bill is a huge victory for all Americans,” Vasquez said. “When I launched the bipartisan Public Lands Caucus with Representative Zinke, we committed to working across party lines to sit down and ensure the integrity of our land management system. We’ve worked together across the aisle to prevent this unprecedented public lands sell-off. We will continue to work together to ensure our lands are public, accessible, and well managed.”

The provision would have allowed for the privatization of large swaths of federal land was stripped from the reconciliation bill before it reached the House floor. The Bipartisan Public Lands Caucus, which includes over a dozen lawmakers from across the political spectrum, made clear that any attempt to weaken public access or conservation protections would be met with unified resistance.

Rep. Vasquez serves as co-chair and founder of the Bipartisan Public Lands Caucus alongside Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-MT-01). The caucus is committed to advancing commonsense conservation policies, supporting outdoor recreation economies, and ensuring every American has access to our shared natural heritage.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Salinas, Bacon, Beyer, Gonzales Lead Bipartisan Resolution to Designate May as Mental Health Awareness Month

Source: US Representative Andrea Salinas (OR-06)

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representatives Andrea Salinas (OR-06), Don Bacon (NE-02), Donald Beyer (VA-08), and Tony Gonzales (TX-23) – the Co-Chairs of the Congressional Bipartisan Mental Health Caucus – led 39 of their colleagues in introducing a bipartisan resolution to designate May 2025 as National Mental Health Awareness Month.

“Along with my fellow Co-Chairs in the Bipartisan Mental Health Caucus, I’m proud to introduce this resolution recognizing May as Mental Health Awareness Month,” said Rep. Salinas. “At a time when 23% of American adults struggle with mental health challenges, it’s critically important that we work together to reduce the stigma, raise awareness, and expand access to quality, affordable care. Our Caucus is committed to finding commonsense solutions that will move us closer to that goal and put an end to America’s mental health crisis.”

“As someone whose family has been impacted by mental health, I know we have a real need for increased access to care, improved infrastructure and reduced stigma surrounding mental illness,” said Rep. Bacon. “By recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month, hopefully we can highlight the need to invest in mental health care and ensure access to treatment for those experiencing mental health crises.”

“Mental health is an issue that touches most families. Tens of millions of Americans report symptoms of anxiety or depression, and suicide is one of the top causes of death in the U.S,” said Rep. Beyer. “Recognizing May as Mental Health Awareness Month has long helped to put a spotlight on this topic, to help people realize they are not alone, and to bring together those of us who seek solutions. I will continue working with colleagues in both parties to do all I can to improve mental health in this country.”

Along with Reps. Salinas, Bacon, Beyer, and Gonzales, the resolution is cosponsored by Reps. Gabe Amo (RI-01), Becca Balint (VT-AL), Wesley Bell (MO-01), Ami Bera (CA-06), Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01), Julia Brownley (CA-26), Sean Casten (IL-06), Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Gil Cisneros (CA-31), Emanuel Cleaver (MO-05), Jim Costa (CA-21), Madeline Dean (PA-04), Veronica Escobar (TX-16), Dwight Evans (PA-03), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), Robert Garcia (CA-42), Sylvia Garcia (TX-29), Josh Gottheimer (NJ-05), Pablo Hernández (PR-AL), Eleanor Holmes Norton (DC-AL), Val Hoyle (OR-04), Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), Greg Landsman (OH-01), Doris Matsui (CA-07), Jennifer McClellan (VA-04), Brittany Pettersen (CO-07), Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03), Emily Randall (WA-06), Raul Ruiz (CA-25), Terri Sewell (AL-07), Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), Eric Sorensen (IL-17), Shri Thanedar (MI-13), Jill Tokuda (HI-02), Paul Tonko (NY-20), Gabe Vasquez (NM-02), Nydia Velazquez (NY-07), Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12), and Nikema Williams (GA-05).

The resolution is endorsed by the following organizations, in alphabetical order: American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), American Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), American Counseling Association (ACA), American Psychological Association (APA), Mental Health America (MHA), National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), National Association of Social Workers (NASW), National Council for Mental Wellbeing, Young Invincibles.

Since 1949, May has been observed as National Mental Health Awareness Month, a time when advocates and activists across the country draw attention to the mental health issues that affect as many as one in four Americans. Today, more people die from suicide in the United States than from traffic accidents or homicides, and we lose at least 17 veterans to suicide daily.

Unfortunately, because of the stigma associated with mental illness, many people do not seek the help they need for themselves or their loved ones. National Mental Health Awareness Month is a time when we work together to break through that stigma and to find real, bipartisan solutions for Americans to access the affordable, high-quality care they need. We express compassion for those who struggle with mental health issues, and we draw attention to the proven methods that can help change their lives for the better.

Rep. Becca Balint Statement on Republican’s Late Night Devastating Budget Cuts

    Washington, May 18, 2025

Washington, D.C– Tonight, Rep. Becca Balint (VT-AL) released the following statement after the passage of the Republican budget out of the House Budget Committee late this evening:

“In an economy already rigged against working people, Republicans are moving forward with sweeping cuts to the programs that millions of families afloat. Americans just want to be able to pay their rent, afford groceries and health care, get their kids a good education and build a better life. But this budget makes that so much further out of reach.

“Republicans have had hundreds of opportunities to stand up for Medicaid, food assistance and our public schools. But tonight, they are again deciding to turn their backs on working people to give tax cuts to their billionaire donors and help corporations rake in even more money. And to do that they are ripping away healthcare from nearly 14 million Americans. This means rural communities will have even less access to care, and our kids and veterans won’t get the medication they need. Their rushed budget will inflict pain on Americans in ways we are yet to even understand.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Miller Exposes Title IX Violations in Illinois

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Mary Miller (IL-15)

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Mary Miller (IL-15) sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon calling attention to a clear violation of Title IX that occurred at the Naperville Community Unit School District 203 in which the school district allowed a biological male to participate in a female-only athletic competition.

In the letter, Congresswoman Miller expressed opposition saying that any school district  that permits biological males to compete in girls’ sports should have its federal funds reviewed immediately for revocation, citing violations of Title IX protections.

    Read the full letter HERE.

“Girls across Illinois are being forced to compete on an unfair playing field, and it’s time to say enough. JB Pritzker’s radical trans agenda is destroying women’s sports and betraying an entire generation of young female athletes,” said Congresswoman Mary Miller. “Let me be clear: if you violate Title IX, you must be held accountable to the full extent of the law. I will not let our girls be pushed aside and silenced.”

In April, Congresswoman Mary Miller previously sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon calling for an immediate investigation into the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) and the State of Illinois for actions that undermine fairness and safety in girls’ sports.

Congresswoman Mary Miller introduced H.R. 2452, the Keep Our Girls Safe Act. This legislation would codify President Trump’s Executive Order 14201 and strip federal funding from any school that defies the commonsense protections for women and girls.

Congresswoman Miller currently serves as Chair of the Congressional Family Caucus and sits on the Committees on Agriculture, Education and Workforce, and House Administration.

Source: US Congressman Gabe Amo (Rhode Island 1st District)

Secretary Marco Rubio confirms Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food produced by Rhode Island’s Edesia Nutrition is lifesaving aid and Vice Ranking Member Amo presses Secretary to do everything to keep starving children from dying.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, House Foreign Affairs Vice Ranking Member Gabe Amo (D-RI), demanded Secretary of State Marco Rubio commit to fund the production, transportation, and distribution of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) aid to keep starving children from dying. Until recently, over 123,000 boxes of RUTF purchased for Sudan were sitting in Rhode Island’s Edesia Nutrition warehouse because of State Department inflicted delays. Another 185,000 boxes of RUTFs purchased by the U.S. Government still sit in Edesia warehouses undistributed.

“Ready-To-Use Therapeutic Food aid produced in Rhode Island has the potential to save hundreds of thousands of lives. Secretary Rubio promised over and over that he would not stop the distribution of lifesaving foreign aid, but today the truth came out,” said Vice Ranking Member Gabe Amo (D-RI). “Right now in Rhode Island, 185,000 boxes of therapeutic food bought and paid for by American taxpayers are sitting in a warehouse. All that’s standing between those boxes and the starving kids who need them is Secretary Rubio’s State Department. This is unacceptable, and I will call on Secretary Rubio every week until he keeps his word and distributes this live saving food aid.”

Watch Vice Ranking Member Amo’s Questioning Here.

    BACKGROUND

Edesia Nutrition is a Rhode Island-based nonprofit that produces ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) for worldwide distribution to save the lives of millions of children suffering from severe acute malnutrition.

On January 31, 2025 Amo asked Secretary Rubiofor information on the Trump administration’s unilateral foreign aid pause impact on the production and delivery of Rhode Island-made RUTFs. Amo called outSecretary Rubio for missing a deadline to provide clarity on foreign aid distribution on February 7.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Fitzgerald’s Halting Uncertain Methods and Practices in Supervision (HUMPS) Act Passes Financial Services Committee

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05)

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) introduced the Halting Uncertain Methods and Practices in Supervision (HUMPS) Act, which strengthens transparency in how banks are evaluated. The bill passed the House Financial Services Committee today by voice vote. Specifically, it directs the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) to revise the CAMELS rating system by establishing clear, objective standards for each component and updating the formula used to calculate a bank’s overall rating. It also calls for eliminating or reforming the subjective “Management” component, focusing instead on measurable risk governance and internal controls.

“The HUMPS Act brings much-needed transparency and accountability to the bank rating process,” said Congressman Scott Fitzgerald. “The CAMELS rating system has a real impact on how banks operate—but right now, it gives regulators too much room to apply double standards. This bill ensures that supervisory ratings are based on transparent, quantifiable metrics, not political bias or personal opinion. It’s a necessary step to prevent debanking by removing subjectivity from banking oversight.”

BACKGROUND: The CAMELS rating system—Capital adequacy, Asset quality, Management, Earnings, Liquidity, and Sensitivity to market risk—is a supervisory tool used by federal regulators to assess the health and safety of financial institutions. These confidential ratings significantly affect decisions around mergers and acquisitions, deposit insurance premiums, and whether a bank is considered “well managed” for regulatory purposes.

However, the current framework gives regulators broad discretion, particularly in the “Management” component, which is often based on subjective judgments rather than objective metrics. This discretion has raised concerns about politicized supervision and “debanking.” When a bank’s supervisory rating can be downgraded due to undefined or opaque criteria, institutions may choose to “de-risk” by avoiding lawful but politically disfavored customers. This creates a chilling effect on financial access and weakens trust in the neutrality of bank oversight.

SUPPORTERS: American Bankers Association, America’s Credit Unions, Bank Policy Institute, Financial Services Forum, and Wisconsin Bankers Association.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Clyde Leads Letter Requesting Risk Assessment of Chatuge Dam & Economic Impact Analysis for Spillway Safety Modifications

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Andrew S. Clyde (R-GA)

GAINESVILLE, GA — Today, Reps. Andrew Clyde (GA-09) and Chuck Edwards (NC-11) sent a letter to Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) President and CEO Don Moul advocating for a sensible approach to address Chatuge Dam spillway safety concerns. Additionally, the lawmakers requested critical information central to the modifications, including the TVA’s completed risk assessment and a comprehensive economic impact analysis of each proposal.

Reps. Clyde and Edwards highlight the potential economic impacts that TVA’s current proposals would have on their communities:

“We are writing to express our grave concern regarding the proposed Chatuge Dam Spillway Safety Modifications at Lake Chatuge, which is located in both of our districts. While we recognize the critical importance of ensuring the safe operation of Chatuge Dam – and safeguarding the many residents living in the valleys below – we urge you to carefully consider the potential economic impacts that any lake drawdowns would have on the residents and small business owners of the mountain communities of Hiawassee, Georgia, and Hayesville, North Carolina. These towns and surrounding mountain communities rely heavily on Lake Chatuge’s recreational tourism during the summer months to sustain their rural economies.”

The lawmakers detail how devastating a potential lake drawdown would be for North Georgia and Western North Carolina:

“…the proposals outlined by the TVA for potential repairs include lake drawdowns to an elevation as low as 1,908 feet – 10 feet below the normal winter pool – for the entire duration of the construction project, with some proposals expected to last as long as eight years. Such drawdowns would devastate the rural, mountain economies of surrounding towns, including Hiawassee, Georgia and Hayesville, North Carolina – leading to the shuttering of small businesses, the displacement of rural workers, and the upending of these communities for decades to come. For example, a 2021 assessment by the University of Georgia found that Towns County’s tourism-related output was $117.4 million, supporting 1,362 jobs or approximately 24% of county employment, and generated $30.8 million in wages.”

Additionally, the lawmakers share their constituents’ serious concerns about the TVA’s proposals:

“Residents across Towns County, Georgia and Clay County, North Carolina have contacted our offices to express serious concerns about the potential economic impacts of the TVA’s proposed lake drawdowns on their small businesses and financial futures.

“One constituent shared how the proposed drawdown would diminish the time they cherish with friends and family on the lake. A local business owner, whose livelihood depends on Lake Chatuge’s seasonal tourism, wrote about the devastating economic consequences an eight-year drawdown would have for Towns County: ‘Implementing a drawdown of this magnitude and duration threatens to eliminate thousands of jobs… bankrupt numerous businesses… [and] erode the tax base.’”

In closing, Reps. Clyde and Edwards request critical information central to the TVA’s spillway modification proposals:

“Specifically, we request that the Tennessee Valley Authority:

    • Publish the TVA’s completed risk assessment of the Chatuge Dam;
    •  Commission a comprehensive economic impact analysis for each proposal outlined in the April 2025 Notice of Intent (NOI);
    •   Explore mitigation measures that would minimize economic harm, such as restricting drawdowns to recreation off-seasons.

“We further ask that the TVA maintain full transparency in its communications with our offices and with the residents of surrounding communities throughout the Lake Chatuge dam modification process. We look forward to working with local officials, stakeholders, and TVA to reach the best solution that effectively balances the safety of spillway operations and the continued economic prosperity of our mountain communities.”

    Read the full letter HERE.

    Background

A recent TVA study identified a key vulnerability in the spillway of Chatuge Dam. While the conditions of the current spillway are not an emergency, the TVA is aiming to improve the safety of the spillway to reduce the risk of the dam’s long-term operations. The TVA study has judged the spillway at Chatuge Dam exhibits some of the vulnerabilities that led to the damage and failure of the Oroville Dam spillway in California. To address the issue, the agency announced four potential alternatives for a long-term solution.

Last month, Rep. Clyde visited the Chatuge Dam with Towns County Sole Commissioner Cliff Bradshaw, Towns County EMA Director Marty Roberts, and members of Rep. Chuck Edwards’ staff to meet with Tennessee Valley Authority officials and discuss the TVA’s proposed plans to address spillway safety concerns.

Additional information on the Tennessee Valley Authority receiving public input on Chatuge Dam safety modifications can be found HERE.

Details on the TVA’s notice of intent, including proposed plans, is available in the Federal Register HERE.

“Specifically, we request that the Tennessee Valley Authority:

    • Publish the TVA’s completed risk assessment of the Chatuge Dam;
    •  Commission a comprehensive economic impact analysis for each proposal outlined in the April 2025 Notice of Intent (NOI);

  • MIL-OSI USA: Alford Re-Launches Long-Range Strike Caucus

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Mark Alford (Missouri 4th District)

Today, Congressman Mark Alford (MO-04) announced the launch of the Long-Range Strike Caucus for the 119th Congress. The Caucus provides an informal, bipartisan opportunity to educate Members of Congress on current and future U.S. bomber capabilities, advocate for this essential instrument of national security, and facilitate engagement between Congress, industry, and the Department of Defense. The Caucus is co-chaired by Rep. Don Davis (NC-01).

“We’re proud to re-launch the Long-Range Strike Caucus for this Congress,” said Congressman Alford. “As the Congressman for Whiteman Air Force Base—the home of the B-2 Spirit, and soon the B-21 Raider—I have witnessed first-hand the strategic necessity of our long-range strike capabilities. Last October, I was in the Middle East when our heroic airmen showed the world what they can do, striking terrorist lairs in Yemen with pinpoint precision. That’s not just power. It’s a promise that America can reach out and touch anyone, anywhere, at any time when freedom is at stake. I look forward to bipartisan collaboration on how we can ensure America maintains its superior long-range strike capabilities well into the future.”

“As our nation confronts emerging global threats to national security, the Long Range Strike Caucus can play a significant role in our defense and in safeguarding the American people,” said Congressman Don Davis. “Modernizing our long-range strike aircraft, particularly our bombers, is essential to ensuring that the U.S. military continues to be the world’s premier fighting force.”

    Background:

The Long-Range Strike Caucus advocates for our nation’s bomber force and the many missions that support our bombers in conducting long-range strikes. This includes active duty, guard, and reserve units that provide fighter escort, suppression of enemy air defenses, air refueling, testing, acquisition, and depot maintenance.

The Air Force bomber fleet provides a unique ability for the U.S. to rapidly strike any target in the world, an essential capability for deterring our enemies and reassuring our allies and partners.

Despite its active use and global presence, our bomber fleet is the smallest and oldest it has ever been. With an average age of more than 40 years old, almost half of our current long-range strike aircraft pre-date the Cuban Missile Crisis. The failure to adequately modernize has impacted our ability operate, especially in potentially contested environments. Therefore, efforts to develop and procure a new generation of Air Force bombers, including the B-21 Raider and refitted B-52J, are critical to the conventional and nuclear national security apparatus.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Reps. Becca Balint and Dave Min Lead Colleagues in Calling Out RFK Jr. Dangerous Autism Comments

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Becca Balint (VT-AL)

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Becca Balint (VT-AL) is joined by Rep. Dave Min (CA-47) and 24 colleagues to condemn recent comments from Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy where he suggested individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) cannot lead fulfilling lives and oppose HHS proposals to track autistic individuals via private health data.

The Members point out serious concerns about cutting funding, dismantling education programs, and the sidelining of expert advisory committees like the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC). Members write to the HHS Secretary as they promote the “Make America Healthy Again,” (MAHA) slogan but recent cuts to programs across federal agencies will have the opposite effect.

In a letter to the Secretary the members urge him to retract his statements and call for a renewed commitment to evidence-based ASD research, support for caregivers, funding for IDEA programs, and full implementation of the Autism CARES Act of 2024.

“We are deeply concerned and outraged about your recent comments and proposed actions related to autism spectrum disorder,”wrote the Members in the letter. “We write today as Members of Congress, but also as parents, family members, and Representatives of loved ones with ASD to demand that you retract your comments and make clear to the nation that individuals with autism play a constructive and valuable role in American society.”

“Instead of vilifying and tracking Americans with ASD, MAHA should help the ASD community by implementing key programs, including: evidence-based research that focuses on improving quality of life, support for caregivers of individuals with ASD, increased access to early childhood screening and interventions, care for adults with ASD and co-occurring psychiatric conditions, and continued access to public health information relating to ASD. It is essential to develop the workforce of the next generation of behavioral pediatricians, psychologists, psychiatrists, speech-language pathologists, special educators, and other related health professions,” continued the Members.

“This should go without saying but Americans with autism are valuable and constructive members of our communities who lead meaningful and joyful lives,” said Rep. Balint. “I was appalled but not surprised to hear the Secretary continue to spread baseless lies about autism spectrum disorder under the guise of making Americans healthier. I’m standing with colleagues to implore the Secretary to listen and learn more from people with autism and immediately retract these harmful comments. Misinformation coming from someone who should be fighting for the health and safety of our country is not only disgusting but poses real risks to public health.”

“Secretary Kennedy is peddling lies that are devastating to individuals with autism spectrum disorder,” said Rep. Min. “Conspiracy theories like those that Secretary Kennedy has pushed forward cause major harm to public health and should have no place in the Health and Human Services Department. He must take back and apologize for these hateful comments.”

“The Autism Society of America is deeply concerned by ongoing threats to critical services and the misalignment in research priorities under the current Administration. The proposed cuts to Medicaid, and disruption of Autism-related programs, risk dismantling the essential infrastructure that millions of Autistic individuals and their families depend on,” said Tracey Staley, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Autism Society of America. “We appreciate the vital role that Congress plays in overseeing these matters and ensuring accountability and transparency in policies that impact the disability community.”

“As a non-partisan organization, the Autism Society of America remains committed to working with HHS to ensure that policy and research reflect the diverse needs of the Autism community and uphold the dignity and rights of all individuals on the spectrum,”Staley continued.

The letter was signed by Reps. Bonamici, Cleaver, Correa, Craig, Elfreth, Garcia (CA), Goodlander, Huffman, Johnson (GA), Kaptur, Krishnamoorthi, McCollum, Norton, Quigley, Ramirez, Raskin, Sherman, Takano, Tlaib, Tonko, Torres (NY), Velázquez, Vindman, and Watson Coleman.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Kamlager-Dove Leads Bipartisan Letter to Secretary Rubio Outlining Steps to Address the Visa Backlog Ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup, LA28 Olympics

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager California (37th District)

WASHINGTON, DC — In anticipation of Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s first appearance before the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-CA) led 55 lawmakers in a bipartisan letter to Secretary Rubio inquiring about the State Department’s plans to ensure quick and secure visa processing for the expected influx of visitors coming to the U.S. for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, 2028 Olympic Games, and other major international sporting competitions. Reps. Young Kim (R-CA),  Darin LaHood (R-IL), and Nikema Williams (D-GA) joined as co-leads.

Currently, six countries–Canada, Colombia, Honduras, India, Turkey, and UAE—have at least one U.S. diplomatic post with visa appointment wait times that extend beyond the start of the first FIFA26 game in the United States.

“The Olympics have the potential to bring up to 15 million visitors to the U.S. and produce an estimated $18 billion in economic impact. Over 5 billion viewers are projected to watch the FIFA World Cup, which could bring millions of visitors to the United States across 11 cities and generate an estimated $3.75 billion in economic revenue,” the lawmakers wrote.

They continued, “However, the success of these games hinges on the State Department’s ability to efficiently process the visa applications of spectators, athletes, and media, including providing adequate visa appointment availability and strategically offering visa interview waiver services where appropriate.

“To meet the moment, the State Department must not take a business-as-usual approach. Accommodating the anticipated surge in international visitation will require innovative solutions in the visa adjudication process that will allow us to maintain security safeguards while reducing unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles. It is critical to begin preparations now to demonstrate our nation’s ability to welcome the world,” the lawmakers concluded.

The letter also encouraged the Administration to update its current visa process to address visa processing challenges, including strategies to:

    • Develop a visa issuance process that maintains necessary security protocols while expediting processing for accredited individuals and entities participating in the games;
    • Ensure Consular Affairs is sufficiently resourced to support visa processing offices at overseas posts, disseminate information to Consular Affairs officers regarding games-related visa appointments, and handle the increased demand for visas well ahead of the games;
    • Establish protocols for visa issuance and entry from countries that are sanctioned or do not have U.S. consular offices, ensuring that all eligible athletes and support staff can participate in the games; and
    • Consider regulatory adjustments or other measures to reduce visa appointment wait times.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Sara Jacobs Grills Secretary Marco Rubio on President Trump’s Conflicts of Interest in UAE while Ignoring UAE’s Funding of Genocide in Sudan

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-CA-53)

    May 21, 2025

Rep. Sara Jacobs (CA-51) grilled Secretary Marco Rubio on President Trump’s conflicts of interest in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In recent weeks, the Trump Organization has announced plans to build an 80-story Trump Tower in Dubai, and President Trump’s crypto company, World Liberty Financial, has secured a $2 billion deal with an Emirati company with deep ties to the government. Then the Trump Administration blew through a congressional hold on over $1.5 billion in arms sales to the UAE, which continues to arm and fund the Rapid Support Forces’ genocide in Sudan.

    Watch Rep. Sara Jacobs Here

Rep. Sara Jacobs said: “Mr. Secretary, I want to turn to the war in Sudan. This is, as you know, the world’s largest displacement and humanitarian crisis, half a million people are facing famine. I saw firsthand the suffering when I visited Sudanese refugees in Chad.

“Earlier this year and again yesterday, you reiterated that the Rapid Support Forces, a militia, is committing genocide in Sudan. Is that correct?”

Secretary Marco Rubio said: “We’re very concerned about what both sides are doing frankly, but the RSF in particular.”

Rep. Sara Jacobs said: “Correct, I agree with that. You also said that, as part of that, all of our engagement with the UAE, we need to ‘raise the fact that they’re openly supporting an entity that is carrying out a genocide.’ And yet, President Trump continues to arm the UAE. In fact, he just blew through Ranking Member Meeks’ congressional hold on over $1 billion in arms sales, ignoring this Committee’s longstanding role as an independent check on major arms sales. Now, we can have a policy debate on the merits of whether to arm the UAE or not, despite this genocide. I had that conversation with Secretary Blinken. But actually, I want to talk about the events that led up to that decision.

“So on April 30th, the Trump Organization, which Donald Trump still owns, unveiled plans to build an 80-story Trump Tower in Dubai.

“On May 1, Trump’s crypto company, World Liberty Financial, secured a $2 billion deal with an Emirati company with deep ties to the government.

“And only 11 days later, on May 12, your Department notified our committee that it would ignore Ranking Member Meeks’ holds on UAE arms sales.

“Secretary Rubio, we have a President who is personally profiting from a deal with a foreign government-backed company at the same time he is selling lethal weapons to that same government. Isn’t that a clear conflict of interest?”

Secretary Marco Rubio said: “I think no matter who is president, they would have to deal with the UAE. We have to. They’re a member of…

Rep. Sara Jacobs said: “That’s not my question. We can have a policy debate about how we should engage with the UAE. I was just there a few weeks ago.

Secretary Marco Rubio said: “You’re making claims about corruption. I’m trying to answer them. Any President in the United States – I don’t care who it is – has to deal with the UAE. They’re a member of the Abraham Accords, number one. They’ve been incredibly cooperative on a bunch of other issues. We don’t agree with them 100%. We have some concerns about some of the things they do. But this is called the balancing of our foreign policy. It is in our national interest to have a good relationship with the UAE. And sometimes they do things we don’t like.

Rep. Sara Jacobs said: “Secretary Rubio, I don’t disagree with you. I just visited the UAE a couple weeks ago and had these very same conversations there and I don’t think this is a complicated question. President Trump is personally profiting from a deal with a foreign government and selling weapons to that same government who is enabling a genocide. Policy aside, are you really saying you don’t think this is a conflict of interest?

Secretary Marco Rubio said: “No, you’re making claims. The president’s family owns a business and they can conduct business anywhere in the world they want. The president has never once raised business deals in the UAE when talking about…Any President would have to have a relationship with the UAE.

Rep. Sara Jacobs said: “Secretary Rubio, that’s just silly. President Trump has retained his ownership of these companies and I have an image right here from World Liberty Financial’s website, so the idea that President Trump is not the face of the brand of this company on top of benefiting from them. And it literally says on the website that Mr. Trump and his family members own a 60% stake in this company. That’s silly. We can talk about the policy merits – that’s not what I’m asking you. I’m asking you a very simple question: do you believe that it’s a conflict of interest to have a president personally profiting from a deal with a foreign government while selling weapons to that same government who is enabling a genocide?

Secretary Marco Rubio said: “I don’t…I don’t accept the premise of your question. I think this has nothing to do with personally benefiting from anything. This has to do with the fact that in order to conduct foreign policy in the Middle East, you’re going to have to deal with the UAE. You have to have deals in place with the UAE.

Rep. Sara Jacobs said: “Mr. Secretary, this is a clear conflict of interest. Anyone with any common sense can see that. The President is personally benefiting from billions of dollars in deals, and he doesn’t care at all about the people of Sudan who are experiencing famine and genocide.

“It’s shocking to me that you can’t admit that. It’s clear to me that you seem more concerned about staying in Trump’s good graces than sticking up for human rights and American values that you once were a champion for. With that, I’m going to yield the rest of my time to Representative Olszewski.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Gabe Vasquez Urges Trump Administration to Preserve Affordable Access to Narcan

Source: US Representative Gabe Vasquez’s (NM-02)

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez sent a letter to President Donald Trump urging the administration to protect and expand access to overdose reversal medications, like Naloxone, which are critical tools in combating the fentanyl and opioid crisis.

His letter follows meetings with first responders from across New Mexico and reports that the Department of Health and Human Services may cut funding for programs that distribute Naloxone kits and train first responders in their use.

“Naloxone saves lives—and any move to reduce access to it puts our communities and first responders at greater risk,” said Vasquez. “Instead of cutting these programs, we should be expanding them and making sure cost is never a barrier to saving a life.”

Rep. Vasquez highlighted concerns from first responders across New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District, who have witnessed the devastating impacts of fentanyl and are increasingly facing rising costs for the tools they need to respond effectively. Naloxone—commonly known by the brand name Narcan—can reverse opioid overdoses in minutes and is credited with saving thousands of lives each year.

In his letter, Vasquez called on the Trump administration to:

    • Reverse course on any proposed funding cuts for Naloxone distribution and training programs;
    • Expand access to overdose reversal medications across the country;
    • Investigate and curb pharmaceutical price gouging of these lifesaving drugs; and
    • Keep Naloxone affordable for first responders.

The Congressman also pointed to a recent DEA-led operation in Albuquerque that resulted in the seizure of more than 400 kilograms of fentanyl pills. While praising law enforcement efforts, he emphasized that enforcement must be paired with strong public health investments.

In the letter, Rep. Vasquez reiterated his willingness to work with the administration on bipartisan efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks, secure the border, and ensure that treatment and prevention remain central to the federal response to the fentanyl crisis.

“After meeting with Congressman Vasquez in March and sharing our concerns about the rising cost and limited availability of Narcan, we appreciate him being proactive and stepping up to urge the administration to protect these lifesaving resources. Our crews are on the frontlines of the opioid crisis every day, and having access to affordable overdose reversal medications is critical to saving lives in our community,” said the Las Cruces Fire Department.

This letter also comes as part of Rep. Vasquez’s efforts to support first responders during National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week. This week, he also cosponsored the bipartisan Comprehensive Alternative Response for Emergencies (CARE) Act to allow seniors on Medicare to receive at-home emergency medical services to treat minor medical incidents by creating a model that reimburses EMS providers delivering treatment in place and not just reimburses when Medicare patients are transported to the hospital.

Rep. Pfluger Participates in Hearing with EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin

    Washington, May 21, 2025

Watch their full interaction HERE or read highlights below.

Rep. Pfluger: We were very pleased that Mr. Mason, the Region Six Administrator, came and visited the Permian Basin. One of the things we talked about was, with regard to methane, the monitoring that is being done. And to incentivize that good behavior, we have reduced the intensity of methane in the Permian Basin by almost 30%, and that’s happened in the last 10 to 15 years, while also increasing the amount of barrels produced from 1 million barrels a day back in 2010 to 6 million barrels a day. And that complexity that goes on to reduce that intensity. We want to work with you. I encourage that to work. Do you have any ideas on where the previous administrator was looking at the Permian Basin in general, to place it into a state of non-attainment with regard to the ozone reporting? Any updates on that for us? This was something that interjected a lot of chaos into that region.

Administrator Zeldin: It’s a very important pillar of the power in the great American comeback initiative to advance cooperative federalism. Part of that with the reorganization is creating an office for state air partnerships. Inside the Office of Air and Radiation, we have approved 25 state implementation plans, including a 16-hour backlog from the last administration. We are working through these non-attainment requests and issues, including inside the Permian Basin. We want to be a partner at the EPA for Texas and the local community.

Rep. Pfluger: Well, thank you. It was very apparent to my constituents that the EPA had become weaponized, and working in partnership is exactly the key word. We appreciate that.

Rep. Pfluger Announces San Angelo Senior as Winner of Congressional Art Competition

    San Angelo, May 19, 2025

SAN ANGELO, TX — Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) announced Korbin Jastrow as the winner of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition in Texas’s 11th Congressional District. Jastrow is a Senior at San Angelo Central High School. This year’s theme was ‘Texas to Me’, and the winning artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol building for the next year.

“For yet another year, I was completely blown away by the talent and creativity of so many art submissions from students across TX-11. While it was hard to select a winner from all the incredible entries, in a blind selection process, the committee picked Ms. Jastrow’s piece ‘The Exception’ because of its unique take on Texas agriculture, as well as its incorporation of our beloved Texas wildflowers. It’s a great combination of multiple parts of the district – embodying the rugged, agriculture-centric spirit of West Texas and the lush, colorful brightness of the Texas Hill Country, both of which I am honored to represent,” said Rep. Pfluger.

In her submission, Ms. Jastrow explained how she created the piece, stating, “The cow was drawn with pencil, then stamped with handmade stamps representing the Indian paintbrush and bluebonnets. The background was done with acrylic paint, and the shadows behind the cow were done with tissue paper.”

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01)

Washington, D.C. – Congresswomen Ashley Hinson (IA-02) and Angie Craig (MN-02) led 26 House lawmakers in a letter to President Trump encouraging him to support a strong Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) by adopting timely, robust blending requirements in the upcoming “Set 2” rule establishing Renewable Volume Obligations (RVOs). Read the full letter here.

“Biofuels play a crucial role in President Trump’s energy strategy that bolsters our energy independence and lowers costs for consumers. By establishing strong RVOs, we can provide certainty and encourage further growth in this important market for Iowa farmers and our rural economy. I look forward to continuing my work with the Trump Administration and expanding the use of biofuels as part of an all-of-the above and all-of-the-below energy strategy.”  Congresswoman Ashley Hinson

    Background:

This letter follows numerous efforts from Rep. Hinson to support the integrity of the Renewable Fuel Standard and fight for higher volumes for biofuels, including ethanol and biomass-based diesel. In 2024, Rep. Hinson led 35 bipartisan Members in a letter to then-EPA Administrator Michael Regan urging the agency to raise RVOs to account for increased production and availability of feedstocks. According to the Energy Information Administration, volumes set by the EPA for 2023 – 2025 were “set significantly lower than production trends,” leading to a significant drop in the renewable fuels market.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Nick Langworthy Introduces Bill to Save Taxpayers, Promote Infrastructure Development, and Increase Jobs

Source: US Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) introduced the Infrastructure Expansion Act, which would reform New York’s antiquated liability law on federally funded projects, reduce taxpayer costs, and promote more construction and jobs in our state.  This legislation will preempt state law and align New York with 49 other states which utilize a comparative negligence standard to assess fault when injuries occur on a construction site.

“This bill is urgently needed to preempt this broken liability standard on federally funded projects and get New York building again,”said Congressman Langworthy. “New York’s Scaffold Law is a gift to trial lawyers and a burden on our construction workers and taxpayers, and it must change.”

“It is estimated that the scaffold law increases total construction costs between 5 and 10%. This only in New York law, dating from 1885, doesn’t protect workers and unnecessarily increases the cost for building roads and bridges, hospitals, schools, affordable housing, industrial facilities, and office buildings.

“The last state to have such a law was Illinois which repealed its statute in 1995.  Since Albany refuses to act, federal preemption is the only path to proceed.  Enactment of this law will save at least $2 billion in federal tax dollars over the next 10 years and significant savings to state taxpayers.

“My hope is that this law if enacted will finally force Albany to reform this law, saving millions each year in construction costs to build schools, residential housing, and other projects which are not typically funded by Washington. Significant technology projects, such as Micron outside Syracuse and other projects all throughout New York State would see a reduced cost of construction,” continued Langworthy.

New York State’s outdated Scaffold Law imposes absolute liability on property owners and contractors for elevation-related injuries—regardless of a worker’s own negligence. This unique-to-New York mandate has made construction insurance skyrocket, driving up the cost of housing, schools, and infrastructure across the state. New York’s law has also resulted in significant fraud as staged accident suits have flooded the courts. This situation was recently documented in an ABC News national story on construction and legal fraud, most of which occur in New York State due to the scaffold law.

Original cosponsors of this legislation include Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) and Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY).

“New York’s burdensome and misguided Scaffold Law has caused construction costs to skyrocket, making it one of most expensive states to build in the country. The Infrastructure Expansion Act will lower costs on federally funded projects by finally bringing fairness and balance to liability rules. This is a critical step toward bringing investments to our state and making New York more affordable and competitive,”said Congresswoman Tenney.

Groups that support this legislation include the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York, Associated Builders and Contractors of New York State, Associated General Contractors of New York, Associated General Contractors of New York State, Building Trades Employer Association, Business Council of New York State, Inc., Big “I” New York, General Contractors Association, General Contractors Association of New York, Lawsuit Reform Alliance of New York, Long Island Builders Institute, National Association of Home Builders, National Electrical Contractors Association, New York Association of Homebuilders, New York Association of Towns, New York State Association for Affordable Housing, New York State Builders Association, New York State Business Council, Partnership for New York City, Real Estate Board of New York, Upstate United, Habitat for Humanity, .

“This legislation is necessary for all future development projects in New York State because it addresses the biggest ongoing concern we hear from our businesses: affordability. New York is the only state with this kind of law, which mandates unnecessary provisions that only raise the cost of doing business. Congressman Langworthy’s bill is critical to ensure key economic development projects remain affordable, such as reconstructing Penn Station and bringing high-paying jobs and economic growth to Syracuse through Micron,” said Heather Mulligan, President and CEO, Business Council of New York State, Inc.

“New York is the most expensive city in America, with the high cost of construction being a major contributor. Local legislators have been unwilling to override special interests to deal with our affordability crisis. We support the legislation introduced by Representative Langworthy that promises to impose needed fiscal discipline that we cannot seem to achieve on our own,” said Kathryn Wylde, President and CEO, Partnership for New York City.

“This commonsense legislation replaces outdated absolute liability rules with a fair and modern comparative negligence standard for federally assisted construction projects. This long-overdue reform will help reduce fraud, lower insurance premiums, and establish a more balanced legal framework for both builders and workers.Escalating insurance costs threaten the viability of construction projects, drive up consumer costs, and delay critical development needed to address housing and infrastructure demands. This legislation is a necessary step toward restoring fairness and long-term sustainability in construction-related liability policies. We commend Congressman Langworthy for his leadership on this important issue and urge swift passage of this vital legislation,” said Mike Fazio, Executive Vice President, New York State Builders Association.

“The Long Island Builders Institute supports the Infrastructure Expansion Act of 2025. This bill replaces outdated absolute liability rules with a fair comparative negligence standard for federally assisted infrastructure and transportation projects.By preempting such state laws and standardizing liability rules, this legislation ensures a balanced legal framework that encourages participation in federally supported projects without compromising worker protections. We applaud Representative Langworthy’s leadership and urge Congress to pass this commonsense reform,” said Mike Florio, CEO, Long Island Builders Institute.

“The National Association of Home Builders commends Rep. Nick Langworthy (R-N.Y.) for introducing the Infrastructure Expansion Act. At a time when rising construction and insurance costs are driving up overall project expenses, this bill would help reduce costs and better use valuable taxpayer dollars by implementing reasonable and fair liability standards for certain federally funded projects,” said Buddy Hughes, Chairman, National Association of Home Builders.

“The Scaffold Law costs New Yorkers nearly $800 million a year without delivering any tangible construction safety benefits, and as a result, we are hindering the economic growth of our communities statewide, preventing safe development from moving forward and creating new jobs and new business opportunities,” said John T. Evers, President and CEO, American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York.) “New York needs reasonable regulations that eliminate unnecessary costs, and this bill does just that by removing the requirements for higher-rate insurance on projects that receive federal funding. With this proposed legislation, we can expand the size, scope and number of public works projects that are critical to improving the built environment around us, and we applaud the work of Congressman Nick Langworthy and his fellow lawmakers for their efforts to reverse this alarming trend.”

“We’re grateful that Congressman Langworthy has heard the concerns of New York’s contractor community. His legislation takes aim at decades of abuse caused by an outdated, New York-only law that has helped make us one of the most expensive places to build in the country. When passed, it will help bring insurance carriers back to New York and make general liability coverage more affordable—allowing us to build more housing and repair our roads and bridges. We look forward to working with the Congressman to get this much-needed legislation across the finish line,”said Brian Sampson, ABC Empire State Chapter President.

“The Scaffold Act is a costly mandate that places undue fiscal burdens on towns and their taxpayers when trying to complete projects in their respective communities. We need this commonsense reform that will lower costs, protect the taxpayers, and help spur more investments in our infrastructure and in economic development projects across the state,”said Christopher A Koetzle, Executive Director, New York Association of Towns.

“Upstate United applauds Congressman Langworthy for introducing federal legislation that would reform New York’s outdated and costly ‘Scaffold Law.’ Originally enacted in the 1880s—when worker protections were minimal—the law now imposes an absolute liability standard for gravity-related construction accidents, a policy unique to New York. As a result, our state faces the highest general liability insurance costs for construction in the nation, burdening taxpayers with hundreds of millions of dollars each year. This proposed legislation would eliminate the absolute liability standard for federally funded projects, helping to reduce unnecessary costs and support job growth. We hope to see this legislation advance in D.C. and call on New York’s leaders to pursue long-overdue reforms at the state level,”said Justin Wilcox, Upstate United.

“The Empire State will never resolve its affordable housing crisis, properly invest in public infrastructure and transportation, or attract and retain the industries of the future if the only-in-New York Scaffold Law continues to waste public funds on liability costs,” said Tom Stebbins, Executive Director, Lawsuit Reform Alliance of New York. “Congressman Langworthy’s bill is a step in the right direction. It protects taxpayers’ money from being siphoned from federal projects to pay for lawsuits that benefit no one except the personal injury lawyer lobby. Congress is taking note, when will Albany act?”

“One of the main drivers of the high cost of construction in New York City is our antiquated Scaffold Law, which serves to protect special interests rather than any jobsite the law purportedly makes safer. Rep. Langworthy’s bill takes this outdated law head on, and if passed will allow our city to focus resources on the projects that matter, rather than increased insurance premiums and lawsuit settlements. Driving costs down and making New York City more affordable requires bold action at all levels, and Rep. Langworthy’s proposed legislation is a strong step in the right direction,” said James Whelan, President, Real Estate Board of New York.

“Congressman Langworthy’s bill takes aim at New York’s century-old Scaffold Law and its unjust absolute liability standard—a relic that saddles taxpayers with billions in extra costs while doing nothing to make jobsites safer.  By replacing absolute liability with the same commonsense comparative-negligence standard, we can steer precious federal dollars toward rebuilding schools, roads, and affordable housing instead of lining trial-lawyer pockets. We applaud the Congressman’s leadership and stand ready to help get this done for workers, taxpayers and our economy,” said Mike Elmendorf, President & CEO of the Associated General Contractors of New York State.

“Congressman Langworthy’s bill is a long-overdue step toward restoring fairness and affordability in New York’s construction industry. The Scaffold Law’s absolute liability standard, which is unique to New York, inflates insurance costs by as much as 7%, directly driving up the price of affordable housing and infrastructure statewide. Reforming this outdated law is not just common sense, it’s essential to addressing our affordability crisis and ensuring that coveted federal dollars are spent building homes and communities, not fueling a broken legal system,” said Jolie Milstein, President and CEO, New York State Association for Affordable Housing.

Representative Langworthy’s bill gives us a direct path to lowering costs on federally funded projects.  Insurance costs in New York City are unreasonably high. Bringing down costs will mean more construction; more construction means more union construction jobs. Let’s get this much needed legislation across the finish line and bring more construction and construction jobs to New York,”saidElizabeth Crowley, President and CEO, Building Trades Employer Association.

“Congressman Langworthy’s bill will help in removing the effects of outdated laws on NYS’s highest in the nation insurance costs,” said Robert G. Wessels, Executive Director of the General Contractors Association of New York. “The savings obtained by decreasing the extreme cost paid by NY Contractors, for insurance on public works projects, can be used for further investment in critical infrastructure projects.”

“The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) strongly supports the Infrastructure Expansion Act of 2025 and applauds Congressman Nick Langworthy for his leadership in advancing this vital legislation. By ensuring that federal infrastructure projects are governed by a fair, comparative negligence standard rather than outdated absolute liability rules, this bill protects both contractors and property owners while preserving access to critical federal funding.
On behalf of our several hundred electrical contractors across New York State, we thank Rep. Langworthy for standing up for the skilled professionals who power and build America’s infrastructure. This commonsense reform promotes safety, accountability, and much-needed investment in our nation’s roads, bridges, transit systems, and energy networks,” said Marco Giamberardino, SVP, Government and Public Affairs, National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA).

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of my friend and colleague, Congressman Gerry Connolly. For more than three decades, Gerry was a tireless advocate for the federal workforce and a steadfast defender of our democracy. His leadership on the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, as the Ranking Member, was pivotal in promoting transparency, integrity, and accountability across the executive branch.

“Congressman Connolly’s commitment to federal employees was unwavering. As a senior member of the Oversight Committee and the Subcommittee on Government Operations, he was a passionate and effective voice for active and retired federal workers. • MIL-OSI USA: Reps. Young Kim, Dave Min Lead Bipartisan Wildfire Prevention Bill

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Young Kim (CA-39)

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representatives Young Kim (CA-40) and Dave Min (CA-47) introduced the Building Resiliency and Understanding of Shrublands to Halt (BRUSH) Fires Act. Elex Michaelson with Fox 11 News first reported on the bipartisan effort. Watch here.

This bipartisan bill aims to evaluate and boost wildfire mitigation efforts in shrubland ecosystems and ensure land managers and first responders have the tools necessary to combat extreme brush fires.

“My community faced the wrath of the Airport Fire that burned nearly 24,000 acres less than a year ago. The more we fact find from past wildfires, the better we can ensure our first responders are prepared for future wildfires,” said Congresswoman Kim, who represents the canyon communities under U.S. Forest Service – Cleveland National Forest. “We must do all we can to support our first responders running into harm’s way to keep us safe, which is why I’m proud to join fellow Orange County Rep. Dave Min to lead the BRUSH Fires Act.”

“The recent LA wildfires illustrated the massive and unique wildfire risks that Southern California communities face,” said Rep. Min. “As climate change has accelerated, the annual Santa Ana winds are blowing more fiercely and the foliage is drier than it’s ever been, creating the conditions every year for ever more intense wildfires. I’m pleased to be leading this bipartisan effort to make Orange County safer.”

“We appreciate the leadership of Representatives Min and Kim in the introduction of the BRUSH Fires Act,” said Scott Morrson, California State Director of the Nature Conservancy. “Shrubland ecosystems are different than forests. Therefore, they require different strategies to mitigate the risk that wildfires pose. These strategies should be based in science. In California, shrubland ecosystems are biodiversity hotspots and home to millions of people, and to plants and animals that exist nowhere else on earth. Human-caused ignitions are now the leading cause of fires, with wind-driven embers starting fires far ahead of the fire front, damaging ecosystems while putting millions of lives at risk. To be effective, any approach to mitigating the risk of fire to people and structures must be based on sound science and will require collaboration between agencies at different levels of government.”

Specifically, the BRUSH Fires Act would direct the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) to:

    • Evaluate the effectiveness of its wildfire mitigation methods in shrubland ecosystems; and,
    • Submit and make publicly available a report to Congress that summarizes findings, identifies steps that USFS is taking to update its operational practices and protocols, and evaluates opportunities to improve coordination with non-federal entities in highest-risk areas.

The bill is endorsed by the Nature Conservancy, the California Fire Chiefs Association, Endangered Habitats League, California Chaparral Institute, and Irvine Ranch Conservancy.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (VA-04) issued the following statement after news of Congressman Gerry Connolly’s (VA-11) passing:

“Today, Fairfax County, our Commonwealth, and our country lost a dedicated public servant who always put his community first and fought for pragmatic policies that would improve the lives of his constituents. Gerry embodied public service, devoting decades of his life to serving our nation: as a congressional staffer, member and Chair of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, and Congressman.

“Gerry put his faith in action as a servant leader. He loved his neighbors and this fragile government by, of and for the people. He passionately provided a voice for the voiceless as he sought to ease any suffering he saw. No matter the challenges facing him or his constituents, he never lost his sense of humor or the twinkle of joy in his eyes.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Ranking Members Lofgren and Amo Implore Trump Administration to End Reckless Hiring Freeze at NWS

Source: US Congressman Gabe Amo (Rhode Island 1st District)

The letter comes as communities work to recover after deadly storms ripped through the South and Midwest this weekend.

Washington, DC – Today, Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) and Environment Subcommittee Ranking Member Gabe Amo (D-RI) sent a letter to Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought imploring the White House to grant a public safety exemption for the National Weather Service (NWS) and immediately lift the hiring freeze keeping the agency from hiring individuals to fill vacancies at woefully understaffed NWS forecasting offices. Currently, the Trump administration has a hiring freeze in place across the federal government. However, many agencies deemed critical to public safety have been exempted from the hiring freeze. Lofgren and Amo stress that given NWS’s role in keeping Americans safe and informed the agency should be granted an exemption.

“We write to you in defense of a critical public safety agency currently being strangled by the policies of the Trump Administration,” the Ranking Members wrote in the letter. “The National Weather Service (NWS) saves lives. It provides essential weather forecasts that alert Americans to extreme weather events. It coordinates with local officials and emergency responders to prepare for extreme weather and minimize the resulting dangers to life and property. And it delivers weather forecast information that Americans rely on each and every day to make basic decisions and plan their lives. It is simply indispensable; if the NWS does not perform these tasks, nobody else will. But the NWS is only as strong as its people. The NWS workforce is withering away because of this administration’s policies: indiscriminate firings; repeated offers of ‘deferred resignation’ and early retirement accompanied by threatened mass layoffs and hostile attacks on federal workers; and on top of it all, a hiring freeze that prevents the hiring of new employees to fill vacancies in critical public safety jobs across the country. Inexplicably, President Trump has refused to exempt NWS from the government-wide hiring freeze by designating it as a public safety department, despite the obvious and essential role it plays in protecting public safety during extreme weather events. As a result, NWS faces a profound crisis. The administration is playing with fire, and the American people are the ones who will get burned – literally, in the case of wildfires like the ones that tore through southern California earlier this year. As the start of hurricane season looms, we implore you to lift the hiring freeze for NWS before it is too late and allow the agency to hire the meteorologists, scientists, and technicians that it needs to carry out its mission and keep the American people safe.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Protect Children’s Innocence Act

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA, 14)

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has reintroduced her landmark legislation, the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, a bold step to end the barbaric practice of so-called “gender-affirming care” for minors. This legislation, now designated as H.R. 3492, criminalizes genital mutilation, chemical castration, and all sex-change procedures performed on children.

The Protect Children’s Innocence Act strengthens and codifies President Donald J. Trump’s executive order banning gender transition procedures for minors. Together, this legislation and the President’s action send a clear message: the federal government will no longer tolerate the abuse and exploitation of children by the radical gender ideology of the Left.

“Left-wing activists and medical institutions are targeting America’s children with dangerous drugs, disfiguring surgeries, and permanent sterilization,” said Congresswoman Greene. “My bill stops the mutilation of kids and holds those responsible for performing or facilitating these barbaric procedures accountable.”

The bill is scheduled to be marked up in the House Judiciary Committee at 10 AM tomorrow, a critical step toward bringing it to the House floor for a vote.

When Congresswoman Greene first introduced this bill in 2022, she was joined by Chloe Cole, a courageous young woman who began “gender-affirming care” at age 13 and underwent a double mastectomy at 15. Chloe detransitioned at 16 and is now a vocal advocate for protecting vulnerable youth from irreversible harm. Watch Chloe’s powerful testimony here.

What the Protect Children’s Innocence Act Does:

    • Criminalizes any attempt to perform or facilitate genital or bodily mutilation or chemical castration on a minor, with up to 10 years in federal prison and/or a significant fine.
    • Bans all puberty blockers and cross-sex hormone treatments for children.
    • Provides no exemption for mental health disorders as justification for these procedures.
    • Defines “chemical castration” and “genital or bodily mutilation” with detailed legal clarity.
    • Exempts children born with certain rare genetic conditions, or who are experiencing medical emergencies as certified by a physician.

Cosponsors in the 119th Congress include: Crane, Finstad, Luna, Bice, Mary Miller, Crenshaw, McGuire, Kustoff, Biggs, Burlison, Tenney, Higgins, Brecheen, Nehls, Weber, Harris, Grothman, Hern, Collins, Ogles, Babin, Clyde, De La Cruz, Hageman, Owens, Palmer, Timmons, Norman, Max Miller, Steube, Jackson, Riley Moore, Comer, Gill, Baird, McDowell, Harshbarger, and Gooden.
