  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Cammack’s Charlotte Woodward Organ Transplant Discrimination Prevention Act Passes Energy & Commerce Committee

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Kat Cammack (R-FL-03)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Kat Cammack (R-FL-03) and Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI-06)’s bill, the Charlotte Woodward Organ Transplant Discrimination Prevention Act, passed through the Energy & Commerce Committee.

The bill prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in the organ transplant system. It upholds, clarifies, and builds upon rights established in the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Sec. 504 of the Rehab Act, and Sec.1557 of the Affordable Care Act. Additionally, the bill prohibits covered entities from determining that an individual is ineligible to receive a transplant, deny an organ transplant or related service, refuse to refer the individual to an organ transplant center, refuse to place an individual on a waiting list, or decline insurance coverage for a transplant or related service based solely on the fact that the individual has a disability.

Named for Charlotte Woodward, an adult with Down syndrome who received a lifesaving heart transplant over a decade ago, the bill also recognizes the importance of auxiliary aids and services, the ability of an individual’s support network to help with post-operative care, and the need for reasonable modifications to policies and procedures to make organ transplant systems and facilities more accessible to those with disabilities. Reps. Cammack and Dingell have been the bill’s sponsors for the last several years.

Rep. Cammack’s inspiration for introducing the bill is Baby Zion Sarmiento from Ocala, Florida. Zion was born with Down syndrome and a heart defect in June 2021. Following 40 days in the NICU and five open-heart surgeries, Zion passed away after being denied a heart transplant because of his disability.

The bill has received the endorsement of the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS), Autism Speaks, Autism Society of America, the National Down Syndrome Congress, the National Fragile X Foundation, Family Voices National, the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO), and LuMind IDSC Foundation.

The next stop for the bill is consideration before the full House of Representatives.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Mfume Joins Elfreth, Maryland House Colleagues to Press for Answers on Behalf of International Students Attending Maryland Universities

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Kweisi Mfume (MD-07)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth (MD-03) led a letter with Representatives Kweisi Mfume (MD-07), Steny Hoyer (MD-05), Jamie Raskin (MD-08), Glenn Ivey (MD-04), April McClain Delaney (MD-06), and Johnny Olszewski (MD-02) to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem on behalf of Maryland university international students who have been arrested or had their student visas revoked by the Trump Administration. To date, over 1,700 visas have been revoked and 4,736 students have had their status terminated across the country by this Administration.

“We write with profound concern that the Department of State revoked the status of student visas in the United States and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested a number of students without any transparency or explanation of why they are being targeted,” the lawmakers wrote.

“Students have been picked up in the street – in some cases by plain clothed immigration agents in unmarked cars – and being held in detention facilities with no warning and limited information as to why they are being deported. These students should be entitled to the fundamental rights of due process and freedom of speech – just as our Framers intended,” the lawmakers continued. “The Administration’s egregious policies have already had serious impacts at Maryland universities, including Johns Hopkins University, University of Maryland College Park, and University of Maryland, Baltimore County. These students are from different countries, in different programs, and have been in the U.S. for different lengths of time, yet are suffering the consequences of the indiscriminate policies of this Administration without explanation.”

In their letter, the lawmakers press for information on the following:

    • The number of student visas revoked from Maryland Universities
    • If the Department of State plans to reissue these visas
    • How many Maryland students have had their legal status terminated in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) by ICE, including: the specific legal status terminated and the legal authority for termination
    • A timeline for SEVIS record termination framework
    • The criteria the Department of State and ICE use to identify students for visa revocation and termination of legal status in SEVIS

Beyond the international students’ fundamental rights of due process and freedom of speech, international students enrolled in English language programs at U.S. colleges and universities contributed $371.3 million and supported 2,691 jobs to the U.S. economy during the 2023-2024 academic year.

Congresswoman Elfreth, a former Maryland college professor, issued an original statement on the rights of international students at the beginning of April, which is available HERE.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Pettersen Introduces Bipartisan Resolution Marking National Fentanyl Awareness Day

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Brittany Pettersen (Colorado 7th District)

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representatives Brittany Pettersen (CO-07), Lisa McClain (MI-10), Lori Trahan (MA-03), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), Joe Neguse (CO-02), and Addison McDowell (NC-06) introduced a bipartisan resolution recognizing April 29, 2025, as National Fentanyl Awareness Day in order to increase awareness about the growing threat of counterfeit fentanyl pills and their devastating impact on families and young people across the United States.

The resolution seeks to unite the public and policymakers in the fight against this deadly epidemic as fentanyl-related deaths continue to rise. In 2024 alone, law enforcement seized 60 million counterfeit pills, equating to over 377 million lethal doses.

“Like far too many Americans, my family was impacted by the opioid crisis. My mom’s addiction that started with prescription opioids led to a decades long struggle including heroin and fentanyl. In one year alone, my mom overdosed over 20 times because of fentanyl,” said Pettersen. “I know firsthand that we need to be at the forefront of this epidemic as it continues to take the lives of young people at an alarming rate. National Fentanyl Awareness Day is an opportunity to increase awareness about the dangers to prevent further tragedies and protect the next generation.”

“Countless Michigan families have suffered unimaginable loss due to this deadly drug,” said McClain. “We must secure our borders and crack down on the cartels that are fueling this epidemic. The safety of our communities and our children’s future depend on it.”

“The fentanyl-fueled overdose crisis is devastating families and communities in every corner of our country,” said Trahan. “By establishing National Fentanyl Awareness Day, we not only honor the lives lost, but also shine a light on the urgent need for action. This bill is about raising awareness, saving lives, and reaffirming our commitment to ending this crisis.”

“Counterfeit fentanyl is now the leading killer of young Americans, devastating families in every corner of our nation,” said Fitzpatrick. “I’ve seen the human cost of this crisis firsthand. As Co-Chair and a founding member of the Bipartisan Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Task Force, I’m working to turn awareness into action—stopping the flow of deadly counterfeit pills, strengthening prevention and enforcement, and saving lives. Recognizing National Fentanyl Awareness Day is a critical part of that mission and of building the national response this crisis demands.”

“Fentanyl-related overdoses and drug poisonings have had a devastating impact on communities across my home state of Colorado,” said Neguse.“In championing an effort to designate April 29th as National Fentanyl Awareness Day, we are not just bringing attention to this crisis but also sharing information and best practices for preventing the spread and sale of synthetic opioids—and, ultimately, fighting to save lives.”

“Today is Fentanyl Awareness Day, and I’m proud to co-lead this bipartisan resolution,” said McDowell. “I lost my younger brother Luke to this poison at just 20 years old. Too many families have gotten the same tragic news we did. Enough is enough.”

Text of the resolution can be found HERE.

Rep. Pettersen has been a leading voice in Congress on addressing the opioid crisis and expanding access to mental health and substance use disorder treatment. Inspired by her own mother’s struggle, Pettersen has fought for legislation to prevent the import of illicit drugs, crack down on drug traffickers and their financing operations, and prevent overdose deaths by ensuring airplanes, law enforcement, and hospitals are able to distribute naloxone when necessary.

Rep. Pfluger Reflects on First 100 Days – Delivering for Americans and Restoring Texas Values

    Washington, April 29, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC — Today marks 100 days since President Trump took office for his second term. To reflect on these first 100 days, Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) released the following video recapping what he sees as the top accomplishments Republicans have secured and highlighting the role he has played in them.

To watch the recap, click here or the image below.

Additionally, Rep. Pfluger released the following statement reflecting on the first 100 days of President Trump back in office:

“President Trump is turning campaign promises into measurable outcomes. With a Republican Congress working in tandem, we have begun reversing the damage done under the previous administration and laying the groundwork for a stronger, safer, and more self-reliant America. The first 100 days have made one thing abundantly clear: under Republican leadership, commonsense is being restored, and the American people are once again being prioritized. Change is never easy, but President Trump’s willingness to shake up a broken system has already produced tangible, meaningful victories and has set the tone for where we are going. Illegal border crossings have dropped to historic lows, energy production is surging in the Permian Basin, and Texas values are no longer under siege—they’re leading the way.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Derrick Van Orden (WI-03) released the following statement on President Trump’s first 100 days in office:

“Over 77 million Americans and 1.7 million Wisconsinites put their trust in President Trump to get our nation back on the right track after four years of disastrous policy from the Biden administration. In just 100 days, President Trump has delivered on his promises to the American people.

“Our borders are secure and over 100,000 illegal aliens have been deported. The first bill President Trump signed into law was the Laken Riley Act to require illegal aliens who commit crimes in the U.S. be detained instead of released back into our communities and put Americans at risk.

“He has reopened domestic energy production, rescinding every one of the Biden administration’s job-killing, America-last “green” environmental policies.

“After decades of being taken advantage of by our foreign trade partners, the president is putting America’s workers first and leveling the playing field for our farmers, manufacturers, and producers. Investments are being made, and jobs are returning to the U.S. at record pace.

“He has saved taxpayers billions by cutting wasteful and fraudulent programs within the federal government and is working to ensure Americans can keep more of their hard earned dollars and provide for their families.

“I am proud of the work accomplished thus far and look forward to working in Congress to further advance President Trump’s America First Agenda.”

For Immediate Release: April 29, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Today, Representative Val Hoyle (OR-04) released the following statement regarding the first 100 days of President Trump’s administration:

“As we look back on the first 100 days of President Trump’s administration, it’s clear that working people are still being left behind. Despite promises to bring back jobs, lower costs, and improve workers’ lives, we’ve seen attacks on the Constitution, gutting of public services, and higher prices for everyday Americans. We need a government that abides by the law and stands with working families – not just the wealthy.

“Our communities depend on good jobs, affordable healthcare, and fair wages. Instead of addressing these basic needs, this administration has weakened workers’ rights and prioritized tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. We’ve seen blatant union-busting and attacks on our Constitutionally protected rights to free speech and due process.

“The next 100 days must put the best interest of the American people first. We need investments in infrastructure, protections and opportunities for workers, and real solutions to the challenges we face. I’ll continue to fight for a future where every American has a fair shot at a better life and every voice is heard loud and clear.”

Today, Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) helped reintroduce the Equality Act, which would codify protections for members of the LGBTQ+ against discrimination in employment, housing, credit, education, public spaces and services, federal funded programs, and jury service.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to be the first openly LGBTQ+ member of Congress elected from Illinois and to have the opportunity to use my voice to fight against violence and discrimination,” said Congressman Eric Sorensen. “Attacks against LGBTQ+ people have been on the rise and we need to come together to do more than just speak out. I’m proud to join my colleagues in supporting the Equality Act, which would codify safeguards to protect the LGBTQ+ community from discrimination in all aspects of life.”

Congressman Sorensen has helped support members of the LGBTQ+ community in the midst of a concerning rise in attacks and discrimination against people expressing their identity. Last Congress, he helped introduce the Pride in Mental Health Act to improve mental health supports for at-risk LGBTQ+ youth.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – U.S. Congresswoman Hillary Scholten (MI03) proudly recognized the extraordinary talent of high school artists from across Michigan’s Third Congressional District at her annual Congressional Art Competition reception.

“Each spring, I have the unique opportunity to recognize and showcase the artistic achievements of high school students through the Congressional Art Competition. Every year, I am completely blown away by the creativity, thoughtfulness, and skill that our students bring to this challenge,” said Rep. Scholten. “At a time when so much feels uncertain or divided, art has a beautiful way of bringing us together. It invites conversation. It encourages empathy. It allows us to see through someone else’s eyes. That’s what makes this competition so special. Every day when I walk to votes, I connect with our winning piece again, and it reminds me of home and who I represent.”

Students from schools across the district were invited to submit original artwork, ranging from photography and painting to drawing and printmaking. A panel of local judges evaluated the submissions based on creativity, technique, and artistic expression.

The first-place artwork will be displayed in the United States Capitol for one year, representing Michigan’s Third District in front of thousands of visitors from across the country and around the world. Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (Virginia 4th District)

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (VA-04) called on her Republican colleagues on the House Energy and Commerce Committee to support measures to prohibit further mass firings at U.S. health agencies after the Trump Administration and Elon Musk’s widespread health personnel layoffs last month.

During a Committee markup of bills, including H.R. 2483, the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act of 2025, McClellan offered two amendments to prohibit further reductions in force (RIFs) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

Both were unanimously opposed by Committee Republicans.

“This Administration haphazardly purged thousands of personnel from U.S. health agencies responsible for supporting lifesaving cancer research, managing measles outbreaks, ensuring medication safety and efficacy, and combating opioid addiction,” said Congresswoman McClellan. “These cuts will delay critical treatments and place even greater pressure on already strained state and local health agencies, many of which are also facing federal funding reductions. The Trump Administration’s actions force these agencies into an untenable position where they will be unable to carry out their responsibilities and keep communities healthy and safe.”

Earlier this month, McClellan introduced a bill to prevent the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from implementing additional mass workforce cuts, following reports that the Virginia Department of Health had billions of dollars in federal funding cut by the Trump Administration that resulted in layoffs statewide for community health workers, nurses and epidemiologists.

    Read the ADL Report Here

“The newly-released data from the Anti-Defamation League’s (ADL) 2024 Annual Audit of Antisemitic Incidents is tragic, unacceptable, and once again, record-breaking. The Audit tabulated a record 9,354 antisemitic incidents across the United States by the ADL last year – a 5% increase year over year and the highest number on record since ADL began tracking antisemitic incidents 46 years ago. This continued surge in antisemitism further represents a 344% increase over the annual average for the past five years and a 893% increase over the annual average for the past 10 years.

“This shocking report is yet another harsh reminder that antisemitism is not contained to campus life, but has spread throughout our entire society. We must unite to address this unacceptable, un-American hate head on.

“As Co-Chairs of the House Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism, we will continue our bipartisan efforts to engage, educate, and legislate. We cannot let antisemitism become the norm. We urge all of our colleagues to condemn this increasing problem.”

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (Virginia 4th District)

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (VA-04) reintroduced the Relieving Economic Strain to Enhance American Resilience and Competitiveness in Higher Education and Research (RESEARCHER) Act, a bill to address the financial instability for graduate and postdoctoral researchers.

“Our nation’s graduate and postdoctoral researchers are the building blocks of our nation’s global competitiveness, yet too often we fail to even provide them a living wage, creating a research pipeline that shuts out too many talented researchers, especially those from low-income families,” said Congresswoman McClellan. “The RESEARCHER Act would support our young researchers, invest in their scientific and economic contributions, and build the STEM workforce of tomorrow. ”

    The RESEARCHER Act:

    • Directs the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) to develop a set of policy guidelines for federal research agencies to address the financial instability of graduate and postdoctoral researchers.
    • Requires federal research agencies to develop and implement policies based on OSTP’s guidelines.
    • Amends the CHIPS and Science Act to supplement data collection on financial instability of graduate and postdoctoral researchers and allows the National Science Foundation to award grants to research this issue.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Lawler Urges White House and DOT to Overrule Amtrak’s Planned 3-Year Closure of East River Tunnel

Source: US Congressman Mike Lawler (R, NY-17)

Washington, D.C. – 4/29/2025… Yesterday, Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) blasted Amtrak’s drastic and unnecessary cuts to service in New York, demanding the railroad immediately reverse course before causing massive, long-term disruptions to travelers across New York. Beginning today, Amtrak is canceling 25% of daily Empire Service trains between Penn Station and Albany and slashing 10% of peak Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) service into Penn.

While citing the need for full tunnel closures to complete a $1.6 billion federally funded project to address damage from Hurricane Sandy and deterioration on the over 100 year old tunnels, Amtrak has refused to adopt proven methods used around the world to maintain service during repairs, instead choosing to sideline thousands of New Yorkers for years.

“This plan is a total disaster for New York travelers, and it’s completely avoidable,” wrote Congressman Lawler. “Amtrak has alternatives that would keep service running during nights and weekends, but instead, they’re choosing to negatively impact service during peak travel times, hurting working families, students, businesses, and tourists.”

“I urge the Trump Administration and Secretary Duffy to overrule Amtrak and force them to keep the East River tunnel open during the day,” Lawler concluded in his letter. “We cannot allow Amtrak to sideline tens of thousands of travelers for years to come when there is a clear alternative.”

Congressman Lawler is one of the most bipartisan members of Congress and represents New York’s 17th Congressional District, which is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. He was rated the most effective freshman lawmaker in the 118th Congress, 8th overall, surpassing dozens of committee chairs.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Salinas’ Bipartisan Bill to Promote Scientific Research Standards Passes Committee

Source: US Representative Andrea Salinas (OR-06)

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Andrea Salinas (D-OR) announced that her bipartisan bill with Representative Rich McCormick (R-GA) passed out of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee. Introduced earlier this week, the Nucleic Acid Screening for Biosecurity Act would develop technical standards and best practices for nucleic acid screening.

“From treating and diagnosing diseases to developing new vaccines, nucleic acids are used for a variety of important purposes,” said Rep. Salinas. “My legislation would help standardize screening processes and protocols for universities, companies, and researchers who work with nucleic acids. I’m proud to see this bill pass out of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee with strong bipartisan support, and I’ll continue advocating for commonsense solutions that will ensure America remains a global leader in scientific research and innovation.”

Biotechnology companies routinely produce custom-ordered nucleic acids for university, industry, nonprofit, and government researchers. Although industry has worked to develop international standards related to screening molecules of concern, U.S.-led efforts are still required to further increase adoption of sufficiently rigorous protocols.

The Nucleic Acid Screening for Biosecurity Act authorizes the Director of the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) to carry out programs to support the development of technical standards and best practices related to nucleic acid screening. It would codify nucleic acid screening activities outlined in former President Biden’s Executive Order on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence.

The bill now awaits a vote by the full House of Representatives.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Ciscomani, VA Secretary Collins Reiterate Support for Veterans during Tucson Visit

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Juan Ciscomani (Arizona)

“Our goal is to make sure veterans in Arizona and across the country get the best possible care we can provide”

TUCSON, AZ – U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani and Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins reiterated their shared commitment to care for the men and women who’ve served our country in uniform.

During a tour of Southern Arizona VA Health Care System in Tucson, both the Congressman and the Secretary strongly pushed back on false claims that mission-critical positions within the VA will be cut, causing possible disruptions in the delivery of care and benefits.

“Don’t believe the lies,” Ciscomani said. “No one is talking about cutting positions for anyone that provides direct care or benefits to veterans. No one is talking about eliminating services. Our goal is to make sure veterans in Arizona and across the country get the best possible care we can provide.”

The Secretary spent the morning with Ciscomani in Tucson, meeting with the Congressman’s Veterans Advisory Council, touring the Tucson VA and discussing services to veterans with hospital leadership.

“One of the things that I spend 50 percent of my time on is basically fighting back against inuendo and rumor about what’s going on at the VA by those who think they know what’s going on at the VA,” Secretary Collins said.

Ciscomani, a member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, represents a district with nearly 80,000 veterans, one of the largest veteran populations of any Congressional district in the country. His Veterans Advisory Council includes community leaders like Sierra Vista Mayor Clea McCaa and Sahuarita Mayor Tom Murphy.

“It is my duty, and honor, to advocate on behalf of veterans to ensure their needs are prioritized by the federal government,” said Ciscomani. “I am incredibly grateful to Secretary Collins for his leadership, our shared commitment to veterans, and for taking the time to talk with those who served, tour VA facilities in Tucson, and counter false narratives about cuts to mission-critical employees, healthcare, and benefits. Secretary Collins is a fantastic partner. I look forward to continuing working together to modernize and improve the VA to deliver on our promise to our veterans.”

“Under President Trump’s leadership, VA is challenging the status quo to find new and better ways of serving America’s heroes,” said Secretary Collins. “As part of that effort, we’re visiting VA facilities in Tucson and across the nation to see what’s working and what needs improvement. We will reform the department to make it work better for America’s Veterans, families, caregivers and survivors, and we thank Rep. Ciscomani for his support.”

    • Through casework, Ciscomani’s team has returned $3.65 million to veteran-constituents, including $1.25 million since January 2025.

    • So far in the 119th, Ciscomani has introduced three pieces of veterans-focused legislation, with one of these bills passing the House of Representatives unanimously.
      • The Prioritizing Veterans’ Survivor Act (H.R. 1228)  would move the Office of Survivors Assistance (OSA) back within the Office of the VA Secretary to ensure that families of fallen veterans are able to receive the benefits and support they deserve.
        • This bill passed the House of Representatives unanimously on April 9, 2025.
      • The Coordinating Care for Senior Veterans and Wounded Warriors Act (H.R. 668) would improve healthcare coordination and management for veterans over the age of 65 who qualify for benefits from both the VA and Medicare.
      • The Veterans Education and Technical Skills (VETS) Opportunity Act (H.R. 1458) would expand veterans’ access to educational opportunities for high-demand skilled trade and vocational programs, whether they are in-person or partially online.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Feenstra Introduces Legislation to Continue Safe Exports of Iowa Agricultural Products in Event of Foreign Animal Disease Outbreak

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Randy Feenstra (IA-04)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Reps. Randy Feenstra (R-IA) and Jimmy Panetta (D-CA) and U.S. Senators Roger Wicker (R-MS), Katie Britt (R-AL), Tina Smith (D-MN), and Chris Coons (D-DE) introduced the Safe American Food Exports (SAFE) Act, which would codify USDA’s role in negotiating regionalization agreements that allow livestock, poultry, and other animal products from unaffected areas of the country to continue to be safely exported in the event of an animal disease outbreak. Although USDA already works with the United States Trade Representative to develop these agreements, this legislation explicitly expresses congressional support for establishing regionalization agreements and promoting robust agricultural trade policies before any animal disease impacts our nation.

This bill also establishes a notification system within the Import and Export Library to prevent our producers from being impacted by changes in trade status of agricultural commodities and alert the proper agencies, organizations, and State Departments of Agriculture that there have been changes in import or export status.

“Iowa farmers are the backbone of our economy and the breadbasket of our country and the world. However, an animal disease outbreak can be devastating for our producers, majorly disrupt trade with foreign countries, and close important export markets that our farmers depend on,” said Rep. Feenstra. “Understanding the dire financial and animal health consequences of a disease outbreak, I introduced the Safe American Food Exports Act so that we can negotiate comprehensive agreements with our trading partners and ensure that a disease outbreak in one part of the country does not impact Iowa’s ability to produce and export our agricultural goods. By working proactively on regionalization agreements and prioritizing farm biosecurity, we can safely ship our agricultural commodities around the globe, prevent massive trade disruptions, and mitigate the negative impacts of animal disease on our farmers, producers, and rural communities.”

“Mississippi’s poultry exporters and producers have suffered during the bird flu. Animal diseases often cause trade disruptions, and the government should help protect American agriculture exports in these situations,” said Sen. Wicker. “The Safe American Food Exports Act would help do that. The bill would give the USDA authority to negotiate regionalization agreements to ensure America’s agricultural producers are not shut off from the global market.”

“Outbreaks of animal disease, even when limited to a specific region, can upend access to global markets for producers across the country,” said Rep. Panetta.  “That’s why I’m proud to help lead this bipartisan, bicameral effort that would codify USDA’s role in proactively negotiating regionalization agreements.  By reducing unnecessary trade disruptions, we can ensure that disease-free producers remain competitive abroad, meet global food demands, and uphold the high food safety standards that American consumers expect.”

“Animal disease outbreaks pose a significant threat to not just American food security, but the livelihoods of our hardworking farmers and producers. This legislation would help secure global trade exports in the event of such an outbreak,” said Sen. Britt. “I’m proud to join my colleagues in this effort to support American agricultural producers and ensure sustainable markets.”

“Congressman Feenstra’s district is full of egg producers who welcome this proactive bill to have USDA work with our trading partners to prevent trade impacts from HPAI,” said Chad Gregory, CEO of the United Egg Producers.

“The North Central Poultry Association appreciates Congressman Feenstra’s keen awareness of challenges facing the poultry industry and his leadership on the House Agriculture Committee to support Iowa’s poultry and egg producers,” said Kevin Stiles, CEO and Executive Director of the North Central Poultry Association. “His efforts to help farmers protect their flocks and herds in Iowa, Minnesota, and across the country should prove expedient as we work together to proactively mitigate the impact of animal diseases. We strongly support the SAFE Act and encourage Congress to swiftly pass this vital legislation to protect animal health, bolster egg and poultry exports, and maintain America’s status as the breadbasket to our country and the world.”

“Ensuring turkey is available to consumers is essential to the success of Iowa’s turkey farmers.  When a devastating disease, like highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) infect a turkey flock, trade is disrupted, leading to financial losses to the turkey industry,” said Gretta Irwin, Executive Director of the Iowa Turkey Federation. “Preemptively negotiating regionalization agreements for known animal diseases, like HPAI, makes sense. This bill takes a critical step to ensure turkey products can effortlessly be exported during a disease disruption and reduce financial strain to the turkey industry.”

“State departments of agriculture play a critical role on the frontlines of foreign animal disease prevention, mitigation and recovery, and we appreciate this bipartisan effort to enable farmers and ranchers to more easily export safe food products to our trading partners,” said Ted McKinney, CEO of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture. “More collaboration and communication among federal partners enables state agriculture departments and U.S. farmers to better prepare and respond in the case of an outbreak and ultimately leads to stronger animal health and welfare across the U.S. NASDA thanks Congressmen Feenstra and Panetta for their leadership on this important issue.”

“Ensuring America’s turkey producers are not unnecessarily restricted in the global market is a common-sense step that would help the turkey industry persevere through the ongoing highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) outbreak,” said Leslee Oden, President and CEO at the National Turkey Federation. “NTF commends Rep. Feenstra (IA-04) for reintroducing the SAFE Act to aid in updating valuable regionalization agreements with key trading partners as members of the turkey industry simultaneously battle export market disruption and animal health challenges.”

“NARA supports the SAFE Act for its proactive approach to animal disease preparedness. We commend Reps. Feenstra and Panetta for advancing regionalization agreements that help prevent unnecessary export disruptions and keep markets open,” said Kent Swisher, President and CEO of the North American Renderers Association.

“We thank Representatives Randy Feenstra (R-IA-4) and Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-19) for championing legislative efforts to secure U.S. export markets for animal-based feed and pet food products in the face of foreign animal disease threats. These products are a critical, yet often overlooked, component of the food supply chain. The AFIA strongly backs the SAFE Act and our members are committed to working alongside the U.S. government to implement proactive measures to help shield our economy from future risks,” said Constance Cullman, President and CEO of the American Feed Industry Association.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Erin Houchin Introduces the Abortion Funding Awareness Act

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Erin Houchin (Indiana 09)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Erin Houchin (IN-09) has introduced the Abortion Funding Awareness Act, companion legislation to the Senate bill led by Senator Jim Banks (R-IN). This legislation brings long-overdue transparency to how states are using Medicaid funds in connection with abortion providers like Planned Parenthood.

This legislation ensures that American taxpayers are not unknowingly footing the bill for abortion-related services and holds state governments accountable for how federal funds are spent.

“The Abortion Funding Awareness Act exposes how states are funneling tax dollars to abortion providers,” said Congresswoman Erin Houchin. “For too long, the left has used loopholes and a lack of transparency to prop up Planned Parenthood and others who profit from taking innocent lives. This bill says enough is enough.”

Despite federal restrictions on direct abortion funding, states have been quietly steering taxpayer-funded Medicaid dollars to abortion providers under the radar. The Abortion Funding Awareness Act seeks to stop that by requiring states to report all Medicaid payments made to abortion providers, submit annual reports detailing those transactions, and publish this information on their official state websites for the public to see.

“This legislation provides the transparency and accountability the American people deserve. I remain committed to defending rights of conscience and the integrity of taxpayer dollars,” said Houchin.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Magaziner to Speak on House Floor Every Day Until Funding for Malnourished Children Is Restored

Source: US Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02)

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) announced that he will speak on the House floor every day the chamber is in session until federal funding for Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), used to save the lives of malnourished children around the world, is restored. Edesia Nutrition, based in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, is one of two organizations in the United States that manufactures RUTF, along with MANA Nutrition in Fitzgerald, Georgia. The Trump Administration has halted all new orders of RUTF as part of its dismantling of USAID.

Edesia-produced RUTF saves 5 million lives in more than 30 countries each year. Despite assurances from Elon Musk and Secretary of State Marco Rubio that funding would be restored, it still has not been.

Unlike Senators, Members of the U.S. House of Representatives cannot filibuster, but they are allowed to speak on the House floor for between one to five minutes each day – a right Magaziner plans to use until funding for RUTF is restored.

Magaziner will use every opportunity to call attention to what he calls a “moral failure” by the Trump administration, that is costing the lives of innocent children every day that the funding for RUTF, including that manufactured at Edesia, is halted.

    He released the following statement:

“Starting today, I will be taking to the floor of the House of Representatives on each day we are in session to speak out against the Trump administration’s failure to restore funding to save the lives of malnourished children around the world. I was elected to be a voice for Rhode Island’s Second District – and I intend to use my voice each and every day until this life saving aid is restored.”

    BACKGROUND:

Plumpy’Nut, a ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) is a nutrient-dense, life-saving paste, is one of the most effective methods of treating children with malnutrition. In the United States, USAID’s Office of Food for Peace, primarily through Title II emergency food assistance, has funded the manufacture and distribution of Plumpy’Nut to the developing world for decades.

Edesia is a nonprofit manufacturer in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, that produces more than 88 million pounds of Plumpy’Nut each year. Their products have treated malnutrition in infants and children across more than 65 countries, saving approximately 26 million lives since 2010.

Since the Trump Administration took office, Edesia has received no new orders from the federal government, causing production to nearly halt, despite assurances from Elon Musk and Secretary of State Rubio that funding for emergency food aid produced by Edesia will continue.

Magaziner vowed to keep pressing the issue on the House floor until federal funding for RUTF is reinstated.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Take It Down Act Passes the House and Heads to President’s Desk

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar’s (FL-27)

strong>(Washington, D.C.) – Today, the House of Representatives passed the Senate version of the bipartisan, bicameral TAKE IT DOWN Act (S.146), completing its passage through Congress. The bill passed unanimously in the Senate in February 2025. The TAKE IT DOWN Act protects victims of real and deepfake ‘revenge pornography’ by criminalizing the publication of these harmful images, in addition to requiring websites to quickly remove them. The rising popularity of AI requires decisive federal legal protections that will empower victims of these heinous crimes, most of whom are women and girls.

You can see Rep. Salazar’s remarks in front of the House of Representatives here.

“This is a historic day for parents and children facing unprecedented new challenges with technology. My TAKE IT DOWN Act will finally give innocent victims real protection from online exploitation. Websites and platforms like Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok must remove fake, compromising pornographic images within 48 hours or face consequences. No more inaction. No more excuses: if you exploit an innocent child, you will face jail time,” said Rep. Salazar (FL-27).

“The TAKE IT DOWN Act’s passage is a significant step forward in Congress’ responsibility to protect the privacy and dignity of Americans against bad actors and the most harmful developments of AI. It takes only minutes to create a deepfake or share intimate images without consent, yet the lasting consequences devastate its victims — often girls and women. Our bill requires platforms to remove these horrifying images and videos from the internet within 48 hours. I’m deeply grateful to work with Sen. Klobuchar, Sen. Cruz, and Rep. Salazar to create this bipartisan federal law,” said Rep. Dean (PA-04).

“The publication of sexually exploitative images—including AI-generated deepfakes—is a terrifying reality of the digital age. I applaud the First Lady for her leadership and the Problem Solvers Caucus for working across party lines to pass the TAKE IT DOWN Act. This is a critical first step, and we must continue working together to protect people from these reprehensible acts,” said Rep. Suozzi (NY-03).

“As a father, husband, and proud South Texan, I’m glad we got this important bill across the finish line in the House and the Senate in a bipartisan way. The TAKE IT DOWN Act is a vital step in safeguarding the dignity and safety of individuals, particularly our most vulnerable. It ensures the swift removal of harmful content and holds perpetrators accountable—prioritizing the protection and well-being of those affected by deepfakes and non-consensual intimate imagery,” said Rep. Cuellar, Ph.D. (TX-28).

“The increasing use of artificial intelligence to create and circulate deep fake pornography threatens the wellbeing and security of its victims, primarily women. Perpetrators have used deep fake pornography as a tool to harass, humiliate, and intimidate women and children online, and we need to work together to protect against these threats. This is a serious and growing issue that requires urgent action, which is why I introduced the Take It Down Act. I am thankful it has been passed by the House, and I look forward to it promptly being signed into law,”said Rep. Dingell (MI-12)

“In an age where personal privacy can be violated with a click, the House’s passage of the TAKE IT DOWN Act marks a critical step forward. This bipartisan legislation creates long-overdue federal safeguards against non-consensual intimate imagery and the growing threat of AI-generated deepfakes. It establishes a clear legal standard: victims have the right to have these exploitative images removed, and perpetrators will be held accountable. This is a commonsense, essential measure to protect Americans, empower survivors, uphold justice, and bring our laws in line with the realities of the digital era,” said Rep. Fitzpatrick (PA-01).

“There is nothing more personal than one’s image and dignity. NCII is a cruel and deeply violating issue, and with the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence, there has been a disturbing increase in these images online. The Take It Down Act is a crucial step in personal and internet security, and I am proud to help send this bill to President Trump’s desk. By introducing new protections against NCII content and criminalizing the publication of such content, we are making our world, both in person and online, safer for everyone,” said Rep. Bresnahan (PA-08)

“Congress must make sure there are protections in place, especially for minors, as technology rapidly evolves. Bipartisan support for and House passage of the TAKE IT DOWN Act is a critical step toward providing individuals who are victimized and inappropriately distorted through AI strong mechanisms to take action and remedy such traumatic situations,” said Rep. Edwards (NC-11).

“The passage of the TAKE IT DOWN Act is a historic win in the fight to protect victims of revenge porn and deepfake abuse. This victory belongs first and foremost to the heroic survivors who shared their stories and the advocates who never gave up. By requiring social media companies to take down this abusive content quickly, we are sparing victims from repeated trauma and holding predators accountable. This day would not have been possible without the courage and perseverance of Elliston Berry, Francesca Mani, Breeze Liu, and Brandon Guffey, whose powerful voices drove this legislation forward. I am especially grateful to my colleagues—including Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Rep. Maria Salazar, Rep. Madeleine Dean, First Lady Melania Trump, and House Leadership—for locking arms in this critical mission to protect Americans from online exploitation,” said Sen. Ted Cruz (TX).

We must provide victims of online abuse with the legal protections they need when intimate images are shared without their consent, especially now that deepfakes are creating horrifying new opportunities for abuse. These images can ruin lives and reputations, but now that our bipartisan legislation is becoming law, victims will be able to have this material removed from social media platforms and law enforcement can hold perpetrators accountable,” said Sen. Klobuchar (MN).

Over 120 organizations representing victim advocacy groups, law enforcement, and leaders in the tech industry have voiced their support for the TAKE IT DOWN Act, including Meta, Snap, Google, Microsoft, TikTok, X, Amazon, Bumble, Match Group, Entertainment Software Association, IBM, TechNet, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Internet Works, the National Fraternal Order of Police, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), and the National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE).

The TAKE IT DOWN Act addresses these issues while protecting lawful speech by:

    • Criminalizing the publication of non-consensual intimate images (NCII), or the threat to publish NCII, in interstate commerce;
    • Permitting the good faith disclosure of NCII to assist victims including for law enforcement or medical treatment purposes;
    • Requiring websites to take down NCII within 48 hours of receiving notice from victims; and
    • Requiring that computer-generated NCII meet a “reasonable person” standard for appearing to realistically depict an individual, consistent with current First Amendment jurisprudence.

Rep. Salazar reintroduced this bill in January and led the effort in the House to get it signed into law. President Trump endorsed the TAKE IT DOWN Act during a recent address to Congress. You can see his remarks here. The Act has been a legislative priority of former First Lady Melania Trump. Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman John James (Michigan 10th District)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives passed Congressman John James’ (MI-10) Promoting Resilient Supply Chains Act. The bill is aimed at bolstering American supply chains, creating good-paying manufacturing jobs, and reducing costs for consumers across the nation.

The Promoting Resilient Supply Chains Act (H.R. 2444) establishes a comprehensive approach to monitoring and proactively strengthening U.S. supply chains. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing, the legislation ensures the Department of Commerce is properly anticipating and mitigating potential supply chain shocks — ranging from natural disasters to geopolitical conflicts — before they impact American families and businesses.

As a former automotive supply-chain executive representing the #1 manufacturing district in the nation, I know firsthand that our dependence on adversarial foreign supply-chains is a problem we can no longer ignore,” said Congressman James. “This legislation is about bringing jobs back home, lowering costs for hardworking families, and ensuring our national security. It’s time to secure our own future by putting America First. I’m thrilled that this bill—which fully reinforces President Trump’s vision for secure supply chains—passed the House. I look forward to the bill moving to his desk and being signed into law.”

Key provisions of the legislation include:

    • Creating a Supply Chain Resiliency Program within the Department of Commerce to identify and address gaps in critical industries and emerging technologies.
    • Establishing an Early Warning System to predict and prevent disruptions using advanced technology.
    • Fostering Public-Private Collaboration to develop best practices and enhance supply chain security, with input from labor, industry, and government stakeholders.
    • Reducing Dependence on Adversarial Nations by incentivizing domestic manufacturing and diversifying supply sources.

The bill comes at a critical time, as recent years have highlighted the risks of over-reliance on foreign supply chains, particularly those of the Chinese Communist Party. By prioritizing American ingenuity and workforce development, the Promoting Resilient Supply Chains Act aims to safeguard economic stability and protect national interests for generations to come.

Rep. James was joined by his colleagues Reps. Debbie Dingell, Erin Houchin, Pat Ryan and Robin Kelly in introducing the legislation.
