Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Eric Burlison (R-Missouri 7th District)

WASHINGTON—Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs Chairman Eric Burlison (R-Mo.) announced a hearing today titled “Made in the USA: Igniting the Industrial Renaissance of the United States.” The subcommittee hearing will examine how cheap labor abroad, combined with overregulation and obstacles to permitting in the United States, contributed to the offshoring of American manufacturing and an over-reliance on China to fulfill manufacturing needs. To ensure our national security and safeguard supply chains, the subcommittee will discuss the importance of bringing manufacturing back to the United States and analyze economic opportunities it promises to benefit all Americans and spur innovation in the U.S. manufacturing industry.

“For decades, America’s manufacturing industry has been gutted—sold off piece by piece to bidders overseas. The federal government has allowed cheap foreign labor, red tape, and a broken permitting system to hollow out America’s industrial might, handing over critical supply chains to the Chinese Communist Party.  Alongside President Trump, Congress is now taking action toward restoring the United States’ industrial strength and economic independence. Washington is waking up and realizing it’s time to bring American jobs, innovation, and production back home. I look forward to shining a light on the root causes of this manufacturing decline and exploring meaningful solutions that ensure our supply chains are strong, our workforce is empowered, and our future is built right here in the United States,” said Subcommittee Chairman Burlison.

    WASHINGTON, April 28, 2025

“Today’s announcement is a win for South Texas communities. Since coming to Congress, I have worked tirelessly to deliver the water Texans are owed under the 1944 Water Treaty. After two years of being told nothing could be done, we finally have a President and an Administration that has shown strength and delivered. Thank you President Trump, Secretary Brooke Rollins, and Secretary Marco Rubio for your leadership on this issue. • MIL-OSI USA: House Passes Miller-Meeks Bill to Boost Domestic Manufacturing

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks’ (IA-02)

Washington, D.C. – The House of Representatives tonight passed the Critical Infrastructure Manufacturing Feasibility Act, introduced by Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) and Kim Schrier (D-WA). The bipartisan legislation directs the Secretary of Commerce to conduct a study on the feasibility of manufacturing more critical infrastructure goods in the United States, with a focus on identifying rural communities best suited to support domestic production.

The legislation now heads to the Senate for consideration.

“With House passage of my bill HR 1721, we are now one step closer to getting this critical bill to President Trump’s desk and advancing his America First priorities,” said Rep. Miller-Meeks. “We can no longer allow adversarial nations, like China, to control the flow of goods and disrupt our economy. This bill takes a proactive step to assess how we can expand American manufacturing, particularly in rural areas, to protect our supply chains and strengthen our economy. I urge the Senate to swiftly pass this legislation that would greatly benefit the Hawkeye State.”

“The Critical Infrastructure Manufacturing Feasibility Act is an important step toward revitalizing rural economies and strengthening America’s supply chains,” said Emily Benjamin, President & CEO of Lee County Economic Development Group. “While urban areas have continued to grow, many rural communities have faced population decline, compounding challenges such as workforce shortages, underutilized infrastructure, and disinvestment. This legislation recognizes the untapped potential of rural America to drive economic growth, create quality jobs, and bolster the nation’s critical infrastructure manufacturing capacity. We appreciate Congresswoman Miller-Meeks’ leadership in championing policies that create real opportunities for communities like Lee County.”

“A data driven approach to the reshoring manufacturing into the United States, particularly in communities like the Quad Cities, is critical to the long-term success of the U.S. economy,” said Ryan Sempf, Executive Director of Government Affairs at the Quad Cities Chamber. “We appreciate Congresswoman Miller-Meeks proactively fighting to ensure America and the Quad Cities have the information necessary to compete for investment in critical supply chain industries”

“We need a clear understanding of what products can and should be manufactured in the United States. We cannot remain dependent on just a handful of other countries for critical parts and products,” said Congresswoman Schrier. “That’s why I was proud to introduce this commonsense, bipartisan bill with Congresswoman Miller Meeks that will allow us to make evidence-based, thoughtful decisions about the role domestic manufacturing will play in the years ahead, and I am thrilled to see it pass the House.”

    Background:

First introduced in the 118th Congress, The Critical Infrastructure Manufacturing Feasibility Act directs the Secretary of Commerce to study which high-demand critical infrastructure products are currently imported, assess the costs of domestic production, and evaluate the feasibility of manufacturing these goods in rural communities and industrial parks. The findings must be reported to Congress within 18 months of enactment.

Congressman Jonathan L. Jackson Condemns Trump Administration’s Dismantling of Voting Rights Protections

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    April 28, 2025

Congressman Jonathan L. Jackson Condemns Trump Administration’s Dismantling of Voting Rights Protections

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Jonathan L. Jackson (D-IL) issued the following statement in response to recent actions by the Trump administration that have significantly weakened the enforcement of federal voting rights laws.

“The Trump administration’s decision to dismiss all active voting rights cases and reassign experienced civil rights attorneys within the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division is a direct assault on the fundamental democratic principle of equal access to the ballot box. These actions undermine decades of progress made to protect the voting rights of marginalized communities.”

Recent reports indicate that political appointees have removed senior civil servants from the DOJ’s voting section, instructing attorneys to dismiss ongoing cases without discussion. This includes significant cases challenging voting laws and redistricting efforts in states like Georgia and Texas.

“The systematic dismantling of the Civil Rights Division’s mission not only threatens the integrity of our electoral system but also signals a dangerous shift away from the DOJ’s historical role in safeguarding civil rights. The reassignment of seasoned attorneys and the abrupt dismissal of critical cases suggest a politicization of justice that should alarm every American committed to democracy.”

Democratic Senators have expressed similar concerns, questioning the DOJ’s recent personnel changes and their implications for civil rights enforcement.

“In light of these developments, it is imperative that Congress exercises its oversight responsibilities to ensure that the Department of Justice remains an impartial enforcer of the law. I stand with my colleagues in calling for transparency and accountability in the DOJ’s operations, particularly concerning the protection of voting rights.”

Congressman Jackson has consistently advocated for robust voting rights protections, emphasizing the importance of the Voting Rights Act and supporting legislation aimed at restoring and strengthening these critical safeguards.

“We must remain vigilant against any efforts to erode the hard-won rights that form the bedrock of our democracy. I am committed to working with my colleagues to uphold the principles of justice and equality for all Americans.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Deluzio Holds Resident Town Hall at Millvale Senior Community

Source: US Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA)

Seniors Shared Concern About Cuts to Social Security & Other Critical Federal Programs

MILLVALE, PA — Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) visited the Lloyd McBride Independent Senior Living Community in Millvale for a town hall meeting with residents. He answered questions about the Trump Administration’s and Congressional Republicans’ attacks on federal programs that residents rely on, like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid—and shared how he’s fighting back to stand up for Western Pennsylvanians.

“The good folks at Lloyd McBride Independent Senior Living Community have earned the right to retire with dignity, and they rightfully expect our government to deliver their hard-earned benefits. It’s outrageous that the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans are attacking so many of those commitments that seniors rely on,” said Congressman Deluzio. “It’s tough for some seniors to travel to events, so I was glad to come to them in Millvale to hear their concerns, answer their questions, and share a simple message: no matter what they throw at us down in Washington, I’ll keep fighting for all of us in Western PA.”

Photos from the event are available for use by the press here

Below are just a few examples of the federal actions that are causing concern for seniors in Western Pennsylvania and across the country—as well as how Congressman Deluzio is fighting back:

    • The Social Security Administration has plans to fire thousands of workers, is planning to close field offices around the country, is ending payments by paper check, is pushing seniors to use its unreliable website for customer service instead of in-person assistance, allowed DOGE to access sensitive personal data, has said it will stop responding to Congressional inquiries, and has switched its official messaging to Elon Musk-owned social media platform “X” (formerly known as Twitter) following cuts to communications staff.

      In response, Congressman Deluzio has

    • Congressional Republican’ budget outline targets Medicaid for $880 billion in cuts. Medicaid is a key source of funding for senior living homes. More than 130,000 people that Congressman Deluzio represents in Western PA rely on Medicaid for healthcare.
    • If Congressional Republicans are successful in rolling back healthcare elements of the Inflation Reduction Act, Americans would lose a key Medicare provision that caps out-of-pocket prescription drug costs for Medicare enrollees at $2,000 per year. This is expected to save PA Medicare enrollees an average of $2,515 this year.
      • Congressman Deluzio has called attention to this under-discussed threat and will continue doing so.

Congressman Deluzio looks forward to discussing many of these issues further at his upcoming Telephone Town Hall focused on protecting Social Security and Healthcare next Tuesday, April 29th at 6:00pm and at his in-person May Town Hall (details forthcoming).

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Deluzio Helps Unfreeze $400,000 Federal Grant for Local Energy Efficiency Projects

Source: US Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA)

Unfrozen Funds From the U.S. Department of Energy Will Help Lower Utility Costs for Low-Income Western Pennsylvanians

CARNEGIE, PA — Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) celebrated that with his office’s assistance, the U.S. Department of Energy has unfrozen $400,000 in funding to Energy Efficiency Empowerment (E3)— a fiscally-sponsored project of local nonprofit New Sun Rising. E3 helps to retrofit existing buildings in low-income communities to make them more energy efficient.

The organization had received the first round of funding from the Building Upgrade Prize grant in October of 2023, and was able to complete nine neighborhood improvement projects in partnership with local nonprofit developers. In January of 2025, as they were expecting to receive the second round of funding, E3 lost all communication from the Department of Energy’s Building Technologies Office—the program had been paused without justification. Following outreach from Congressman Deluzio’s office, the money is now unfrozen and is available to the nonprofit to continue implementation of the 25 home energy efficiency projects for which the grant was intended.

“The high cost of living is making the American Dream seem more and more unrealistic for folks, and utility costs are a big part of that. This funding is estimated to help lower utility costs by $500 per year for many Western Pennsylvanians—that’s real money back to help make life better,” said Congressman Deluzio. “I’m proud that our work to unfreeze this grant was a success, but this funding never should have been frozen in the first place. I’m concerned that the Department of Energy has removed some key pages about this grant program from their website, making it hard for organizations to plan. I’m urging the Administration to fully restore this program and keep these resources flowing to help lower utility costs for people feeling squeezed by rising costs.”

“We sincerely thank Congressman Deluzio and his office for their steadfast advocacy in helping to secure the release of frozen federal funds,” said Lucy de Barbaro, E3 Director. “We are also deeply grateful to the many lawyers and organizations who swiftly mobilized and worked tirelessly to challenge the funding freezes in courts. In particular, we are thankful for the invaluable insight and groundwork provided by Lawyers for Good Government and the Environmental Protection Network. Fair Shake Environmental Legal Services, with financial backing from the Heinz Endowments, started legal action on our behalf, and we are proud to acknowledge their role in this victory. While the future of the full Buildings Upgrade Prize program—originally planned to run from 2023 to 2028—remains uncertain, we are thrilled to continue our mission of advancing energy efficiency and long-term housing affordability for another year.”

The Department of Energy’s “Buildings Up Prize,” administered by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), is designed to support innovative approaches to retrofitting buildings, to include high performance technologies.

The Trump Administration’s efforts to freeze funding and pause federal grants has created significant uncertainty for grantees, varying by agency and program. As of now, the courts have paused many of these freezes. However, Congressman Deluzio’s office will continue to monitor these developments and fight to make sure this congressionally-authorized funding will keep flowing to projects that make life better for Western Pennsylvanians. If you are the recipient of a federal grant and have been notified that this funding is no longer available to you or are experiencing other issues accessing your lawfully appropriated funds, please share your concerns with Congressman Deluzio’s office at PA17Grants@mail.house.gov.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Young Kim Bill to Promote Cost Transparency Passes House

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Young Kim (CA-39)

Washington, DC – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Hotel Fees Transparency Act (H.R. 1479), a bipartisan bill led by U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40) to improve cost transparency for stays in short-term lodging, such as hotels, motels, and inns.

The Hotel Fees Transparency Act of 2025 prohibits unfair or misleading price advertising for places of short-term lodging and requires accurate price listings that include all mandatory and resort fees.

Rep. Kim introduced this bill in the 118th Congress, which passed the House in June 2024.

Watch Rep. Kim speak on the House floor in support of H.R. 1479 HERE or read her remarks below.

Thank you, Chairman Guthrie, for yielding. I rise in support of my bill, H.R. 1479, the Hotel Fees Transparency Act.

Hidden fees on short-term lodging, whether at hotels, motels, inns, resorts, or rentals, make it harder for families to plan for a trip.

Too often, what looks like an affordable overnight stay online turns out to be far more expensive once these deceptive charges are added.

Additionally, the way these prices are advertised are fragmented and not uniform.

Americans deserve price transparency so that they can appropriately budget for their travels.

The Hotel Fees Transparency Act requires providers of short-term lodging to disclose upfront the full cost of a stay, including all mandatory and service fees.

It would also require the lodging and booking industries to clearly display the final price of a stay, providing transparency for consumers and improving American tourism and hospitality.

I want to thank Representatives Castor, Fry, and Mullin for their collaboration on this bipartisan, commonsense pro-consumer legislation.

I urge my colleagues to support the Hotel Fees Transparency Act.

Thank you, and I yield back.

More Than 17,000 Children and Teenagers Shot Each Year, 4,000 Will Die

PROSPER Act Provides Resources and Funding to On-Ground Efforts Already Proven Effective

    Read the Bill Here

New York, NY– Congressman Dan Goldman (NY10) held a press conference to announce the reintroduction of his bill, the ‘Prioritizing Resources for Outreach, Safety, Violence Prevention, Youth Empowerment and Resilience’ (PROSPER) Act. This legislation invests in community-based organizations that focus on gun violence intervention and prevention. The bill is intended to ensure these organizations have the support and resources they need to curb gun violence in their local communities.

Last week, the Trump Administration abruptly canceled hundreds of Department of Justice Grants for gun violence prevention, addiction prevention, and victim advocacy across the country. While Trump and the GOP claim crime prevention and public safety are among their chief concerns, they are kneecapping the very organizations responsible for improving both.

“As gun violence continues to ravage our communities every year, it’s critical we address this epidemic with a comprehensive, multi-faceted approach,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “This means not only common-sense gun safety legislation but also investing in community-based intervention and prevention programs that tackle the demand for guns. We have proof of what works, and it’s imperative that we continue to support and strengthen these effective programs. While Trump undermines our public safety by slashing grants for DOJ violence prevention initiatives, legislation like the PROSPER Act is essential to equip local organizations with the resources they need to combat cyclical violence and make our communities safer.”

The Congressman was joined by representatives from gun violence prevention organizations, as well as New Yorkers who have been personally impacted by gun violence.

Rebecca Fischer, Executive Director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, said, “While Trump is defunding gun violence prevention initiatives and rolling back public-safety efforts, Congressman Goldman is fighting every day for New Yorkers and leading to save lives. NYAGV knows first-hand how critical community violence intervention programs are for Americans most impacted by gun violence, especially our youth. Gun violence is the leading cause of death for youth nationally and in NYS, and the PROSPER Act is fresh air for all of us who are committed to creating safer environments for our children – in our schools and in our streets. The legislation will authorize substantial funding for the Youth Gun Violence Prevention Grant Program, ensuring a dedicated and consistent source of support for initiatives specifically targeting youth gun violence. This bill ensures that those who are on the ground and understand their communities best will have the necessary resources to implement effective prevention strategies. Thank you Congressman Dan Goldman for your outstanding leadership and for championing this life-saving funding bill.”

Mark Collins, Director of Federal Policy for Brady: United Against Gun Violence, said, “As gun violence continues to threaten the lives of American youth, it is imperative that we as a nation invest in our children and their future. The Youth Gun Violence Prevention Grant Program under the Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention will do just that, providing necessary support to community-oriented violence prevention initiatives and programs aimed at juvenile justice. This investment will strengthen communities across the country and allow our nation’s children to grow into healthy, prosperous members of society. Brady thanks Congressman Goldman for reintroducing the PROSPER Act and for his continued dedication to building up the next generation of Americans.”

Emma Brown, Executive Director at GIFFORDS, said, “Guns are the leading cause of death for American children, an unacceptable fact. Many young people in this country are continually exposed to community violence. Rep. Goldman’s bill would open an alternate path by funding youth violence prevention programs in communities nationwide, protecting at-risk children and helping to interrupt cycles of violence. We thank Representative Goldman for introducing this crucial legislation, and urge Congress to pass it swiftly.”

Dr. Gisele Castro, Chief Executive Officer of exalt, said, “To solve complex problems, we must work with those most proximate to them. This legislation proposes to do exactly that by bringing much needed resources to leaders who are deploying real solutions to youth violence. Our model at exalt provides youth with support through educational progress and pathways to fulfilling careers that enable them to earn a living wage. In this way, exalt empowers justice-involved youth to achieve both academic success and social and economic mobility.  I applaud Congressman Goldman for his thoughtful approach and for introducing this legislation. Together, with the right investments, we can create more resilient, safe, and prosperous communities.”

Daniela Gilbert, Director of Redefining Public Safety at the Vera Institute of Justice, said, “Far too many young people—especially Black youth and other young people of color—are growing up in communities where gun violence is a daily threat and opportunity is out of reach. The PROSPER Act is a critical step toward breaking that cycle by investing in what works: community-centered and evidence-based solutions that prevent violence. This bill brings us closer to a future where every young person has the support they need to thrive—not just survive.”

David Garza, President & CEO of Henry Street Settlement, said, “We are grateful to Representative Dan Goldman for his leadership in providing crucial resources to prevent gun violence among New York City youth. With a 132-year history on the Lower East Side, Henry Street understands that the way to make neighborhoods safe is by ensuring that youth are connected to their communities, and one key way to ensure that is by providing meaningful and responsive human services, including a high-quality, versatile educational, employment, athletics and enrichment, and mental health programming. There is no single answer to violence prevention, but with hope in one hand, opportunity in the other, and someone behind you that believes in you, young people not only can stay safe but can be part of the solution toward moving communities to safety.

Gun violence is the leading cause of death for American youth. More than 17,000 children are shot each year, resulting in over 4,000 tragic and preventable deaths. Gun violence also has a disproportionate impact on communities of color, with Black children and teens being 20 times more likely to die in a gun-related homicide than their White peers.

Young people exposed to gun violence often suffer long-lasting physical, psychological, and emotional trauma. These experiences increase the risk of substance abuse, mental health disorders, and even the perpetuation of violent behavior—creating a tragic cycle of violence that affects future generations. The economic toll of these cycles is staggering, with youth violence costing an estimated $122 billion each year in medical expenses, lost employment opportunities, and diminished quality of life due to injury.

Evidence-based, community-driven programs have had great success in curbing violence at the local level. For example, Chicago’s Youth Violence Prevention Center reduced local homicides by 17% in one year, even as the city’s overall homicide rate increased. The PROSPER Act will address the demand for guns by reducing the conditions that lead young people into cycles of violence in the first place. This legislation is intended to empower young people, not punish them.

To address the gun violence epidemic, the  PROSPER Act:

    • Authorizes a new Youth Gun Violence Prevention Program under the Department of Justice’s (DOJ’s) Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP).

    • This dedicated program would invest in locally tailored and evidence-based violence prevention initiatives by awarding grants to community-based organizations, local, state, and tribal governments.

    • Provides $100 million in funding for each of the following five fiscal years for Title V Incentive Grants for Local Delinquency Prevention.

    • This includes $25 million in funding per year for the new Youth Gun Violence Prevention Program. The remaining funding would be allocated for other juvenile justice programs carried out by the DOJ such as gang prevention, opioid affected youth, children exposed to violence, trafficking prevention, etc.

Congressman Goldman has made gun violence prevention a centerpiece of his time in office.

In March, the Congressman joined colleagues in sending a letter to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg highlighting Meta’s failure to adequately regulate advertisements for gun silencers on its platform and requesting clarification around the platform’s ad moderation process.
In February, the Congressman joined Rep. DeLauro in introducing ‘Ethan’s Law’, which would set federal standards for safe gun storage and establish incentives for states to create and implement safe gun storage laws.
In January, the Congressman joined Reps. Blumenthal, Dean, Raskin, Thompson, and Johnson in leading 43 of his colleagues in an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc. et al., v. Estados Unidos Mexicanos, to hold American gun manufacturers responsible for aiding and abetting illegal arms trafficking to Mexican drug cartels and fueling gun violence across Mexico.

Congressman Goldman is the Chair of the Gun Violence Prevention Working Group on Dads Caucus.

  • MIL-OSI USA: American Music Tourism Act PASSES House

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Diana Harshbarger (R-TN)

WASHINGTON — Today, Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger’s bipartisan American Music Tourism Act passed the House Floor on suspension with bipartisan support.

This legislation would require the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Travel and Tourism to implement a plan to support and increase music tourism for both domestic and international visitors. The Act would also require the Assistant Secretary to report to Congress on the success and challenges related to achieving these tourism goals.

Notably, this bill will not require any additional taxpayer dollars to implement.

Congresswoman Harshbarger issued the following statement.

“We’ve been working longer than nine to five to get this legislation passed through the House, and I’m thrilled that it passed with such overwhelming support. This legislation will have a direct impact on Tennessee’s First Congressional District. As home to iconic destinations like Dollywood in Pigeon Forge and the Birthplace of Country Music in Bristol, we play a vital role in the music tourism industry.

“I’m thankful to my colleague and co-lead Rep. Nanette Barragán (CA-44), as well as all of the members who voted to support this bill. I look forward to this legislation making its way through the Senate, where it’s sponsored by Senator Blackburn, with the ultimate goal of having it signed into law by President Trump.”

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) has joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers to reintroduce the Youth Lead Act, a bill aimed at helping youth organizations like the Future Farmers of America (FFA), 4-H, and the Scouts continue to grow and thrive. The legislation highlights the importance of building leadership and life skills in young people across the country.

“Growing up, I learned how important it is to work hard, be part of a team, and help others—and that’s exactly what programs like FFA, 4-H, and the Scouts teach,” said Congressman Eric Sorensen. “The Youth Lead Act helps support these awesome groups so more kids in our community can build confidence, learn new skills, and become great leaders. When we believe in our young people, we believe in a brighter future for everyone.”

Nearly 8.4 million young people participate in FFA, 4-H, and the Scouts nationwide. Congressman Sorensen is proud to support this legislation to help expand access to these life-changing programs, especially for students in Central and Northwest Illinois.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) applauded the recent announcement of a $999,764 federal grant awarded to Monmouth College to fund scholarships for low-income students interested in pursuing a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) degree. The funding will help prepare students for careers in high-paying STEM jobs.

“The best way to grow our economy and create good-paying jobs is to ensure we prepare our next generation with the tools necessary to succeed in a competitive world,” said Congressman Sorensen. “This funding will ensure that everyone – no matter their financial situation – has a chance to pursue a high-paying career in a STEM field.”

Congressman Sorensen has championed efforts to help colleges and universities across Illinois’ 17th district secure federal funding to boost their STEM programs, allowing many more Illinois students to graduate with a degree in a STEM field that prepares them for a high-paying job. In 2023, he announced $4.5 million in federal grant funding to support efforts to create STEAM talent development strategies. Last year, he supported a $15 million project to help Illinois State University build a new STEM/Science Lab building.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Pettersen Leads CO Democratic Delegation in Calling on President Trump to Fund Head Start Amid Child Care Crisis

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Brittany Pettersen (Colorado 7th District)

WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Representative Brittany Pettersen (CO-07) led the Colorado Democratic Congressional Delegation in a letter urging President Trump to fully fund Head Start in the upcoming budget. The letter follows alarming reports that the Trump administration is considering a proposal to eliminate funding for the program.

In Colorado alone, more than 11,600 children rely on Head Start services every year, and the program supports over 5,000 jobs. Head Start provides child care, early education, nutrition, and health services to children in low-income households, while also offering parents opportunities for employment and education.

“As a mom, I know firsthand how difficult it is to find safe, affordable childcare, and for far too many families, it is nearly impossible,” said Pettersen. “Head Start is an essential support for our kids and families to help bring financial independence and give our kids the best shot at success. Gutting funding for this program will have a cascading impact on our local economy, workforce, and our kids’ future and disproportionately impact our rural communities.”

In a letter, the Members shared, “Colorado families face a child care crisis: child care is neither affordable nor accessible, and most families face a lengthy enrollment waitlist. The elimination of Head Start funding would further imperil an already fragile state of affairs – particularly for rural communities, where local child care facilities are often oversubscribed or nonexistent. Head Start facilities often serve as the only affordable option.”

The Members continued, “Since the 1990s, the cost of child care has more than tripled, outpacing wages, the cost of groceries, and even housing. Reducing critical funding for Head Start would reverse decades of bipartisan investment in children amidst a cost-of-living crisis, compounding potential harm for working families.”

“This isn’t about politics. It’s about kids,” said Heather Frenz, executive director of the Colorado Head Start Association. “Colorado’s families need Head Start now more than ever. Eliminating this program would be a devastating blow — and it’s simply unacceptable.”

Signers of the letter include Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper and Representatives Diana DeGette (CO-01), Joe Neguse (CO-02), and Jason Crow (CO-06).

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congresswoman Tenney Unveils Legislation to Back Rochester PD and Support Law Enforcement Officers

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22)

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Tenney (NY-24) today unveiled the Law Enforcement Solidarity Act, which conditions federal funds on state and localities, allowing local law enforcement to cooperate with federal law enforcement, including the Department of Homeland Security.

In March, members of the Rochester police department responded to a call for emergency backup from federal law enforcement. Rochester police valiantly responded, yet they have faced backlash from liberal city officials due to Rochester’s sanctuary city policies. This bill will ensure that all law enforcement officers, at the federal, state, and local levels, can provide support to one another in emergency circumstances.

“Law enforcement officers who respond to the emergency call from their fellow officers should be celebrated, not chastised. Yet, Rochester city officials are seeking to penalize the RPD officers who quickly responded to assist ICE during a traffic stop, simply because of Rochester’s unlawful sanctuary city policies. That’s why I’m introducing the Law Enforcement Solidarity Act to make federal funding conditional on allowing local law enforcement to cooperate with federal law enforcement. No law enforcement officer, local or federal, should be abandoned because of reckless policies driven by the Left’s political agenda,” said Congresswoman Tenney.

“The Locust Club is grateful for Congresswoman Tenney’s support and encouragement. Our members will always answer the call when other agencies ask for our help. The Locust Club supports this legislation which protects our officers from being punished for responding when our assistance is requested,” said the Rochester Locust Club.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-02) released the below statement following the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s emergency waiver to allow the uninterrupted sale of E15 this summer nationwide.

I want to extend a huge thank you to the Trump Administration for following through on its commitments to Iowa farmers & biofuels producers by allowing the sale of E15 this summer nationwide.

I recently led a letter urging the administration to ensure E15 could be sold across the country this summer, and I’m thrilled to see them take this crucial step. I will continue working with the administration to expand the use of biofuels to achieve American energy dominance and get a permanent solution across the finish line for the benefit of producers and consumers alike.” – Congresswoman Ashley Hinson

    Background:
In Congress, Rep. Hinson has been a leading advocate for expanded access to higher blends of ethanol, including E15. EPA’s announcement follows a letter led by Representatives Hinson, Adrian Smith, Angie Craig, and Mark Pocan urging the president to permit the nationwide sale of E15 during the 2025 summer driving season. This Congress, Rep. Hinson has also joined several efforts to promote the use of biofuels and pursue American energy dominance, including:

    • Sending a letter to EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin urging support for the Renewable Fuel Standard and the elimination of regulatory barriers to the growth of the American biofuels industry.
    • Helping introduce the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act to make E15 available year-round, nationwide.

Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) today praised President Trump, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins for granting an emergency waiver allowing E15 sales this summer, helping lower costs for Iowa families and strengthening America’s biofuels industry.

“I’m proud to have worked with President Trump, Administrator Zeldin, and Secretary Rollins to deliver summer E15 for Iowa,” said Miller-Meeks. “But Iowans deserve permanent, year-round access to E15. That’s why I introduced the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act to guarantee affordable, homegrown energy at the pump—strengthening our farmers, lowering prices, and unlocking America’s energy future.”

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Maxwell Frost Florida (10th District)

    April 20, 2025

San Salvador, El Salvador – Today, U.S. Representatives Maxwell Frost (D-FL), Robert Garcia (D-CA), Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ), and Maxine Dexter (D-OR) announced that they have arrived in El Salvador to pressure the Trump Administration to abide by a Supreme Court order to facilitate the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man with protected legal status who was unlawfully deported by the Trump Administration. Mr. Abrego Garcia is currently detained in El Salvador despite having no criminal conviction in the United States, a direct violation of due process protected by the Constitution.

The Congressional Members are in El Salvador to bring attention to President Trump’s illegal defiance of the binding and unanimous Supreme Court decision in Noem v. Abrego Garcia that demands the Administration facilitate Abrego Garcia’s return and due process in the United States.

This visit comes after the Trump Administration admitted that Mr. Abrego Garcia’s detention was an “error” but refused to abide by a federal judge and the Supreme Court’s orders to facilitate Mr. Abrego Garcia’s return home. Members will also advocate for other detainees who are being held without due process.

This trip is not being financed by taxpayer dollars and comes after Chairman James Comer refused to approve Garcia and Frost’s request for an official CODEL.

“Donald Trump and his Administration are running a government-funded kidnapping program– illegally arresting, jailing, and deporting innocent people with zero due process. Kilmar Abrego Garcia is Trump’s latest victim,” said Congressman Maxwell Frost. “As Members of Congress it is our responsibility to hold the President and Administration accountable for defying the constitution of the United States. Donald Trump and ICE are not above the law. Today it’s Kilmar, but tomorrow it could be anyone else. We cannot and will not let Donald Trump get away with this.”

“While Donald Trump continues to defy the Supreme Court, Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia is being held illegally in El Salvador after being wrongfully deported,” said Congressman Robert Garcia. “That is why we’re here– to remind the American people that kidnapping immigrants and deporting them without due process is not how we do things in America. We are demanding the Trump Administration abide by the Supreme Court decision and give Kilmar and the other migrants mistakenly sent to El Salvador due process in the United States.”

“My parents fled an authoritarian regime in Iran where people were ‘disappeared’ – I refuse to sit back and watch it happen here, too. Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s illegal abduction and President Trump’s complete disregard of due process and a unanimous Supreme Court ruling are deeply disturbing. We should all be appalled by this treatment by the United States government,” said Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari. “I’m in El Salvador to advocate for the Trump Administration to facilitate his safe return home, and make sure Trump’s attack on our Constitution and due process stops now. Trump has already threatened to illegally deport ‘home-growns’ and American citizens. If this can happen to Mr. Abrego Garcia, it can happen to any of us. This is a constitutional crisis. ”

“What happened to Kilmar Abrego Garcia is not just one family’s nightmare—it is a constitutional crisis that should outrage every single one of us,” said Congresswoman Maxine Dexter. “We will not rest while due process is discarded, and our constitutional rights are ignored. We will be loud in demanding that the Trump Administration abide by the Supreme Court’s decision and uphold the rule of law. Because if this can happen to Mr. Abrego Garcia, it can happen to anyone.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: McClellan Demands Answers from Colonial Heights Rehabilitation and Nursing Center Following Reports of Substandard Care

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (Virginia 4th District)

Washington, D.C. –Today, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (VA-04) sent a letter to the Colonial Heights Rehabilitation and Nursing Center to express deep concern over a growing number of reports describing troubling conditions at the facility:

“The deeply concerning and persistent reports emerging from Colonial Heights Rehabilitation and Nursing Center warrant a thorough investigation. Federal and state officials have a responsibility to uphold the dignity and well-being of every Virginian, especially those who are most vulnerable and in need of care. These individuals are parents, grandparents and loved ones whose voices often go unheard.

“Families across Virginia place their trust in nursing and rehabilitation centers to provide their loved ones with the care and attention they deserve. They should never have to question whether that trust is misplaced. Virginians deserve the peace of mind that comes from knowing their loved ones are safe, valued, and treated with the utmost dignity.

“The disturbing reports about conditions at the Colonial Heights Rehabilitation Center demand answers. Both federal and state authorities must ensure Colonial Heights Rehabilitation and Nursing Center remedies this concerning situation immediately, so nursing home residents can get the quality care they deserve.”

Multiple reports indicate persistent staffing issues that management has failed to resolve. A Virginia Department of Health inspection report published in February 2025 found that staff did not promptly respond to requests for assistance from residents, failed to check on residents at regular intervals, and did not help residents maintain proper hygiene.

It was also reported that insufficient staffing forced nursing personnel into unsafe situations, such as a single assistant being responsible for caring for over 30 residents.

McClellan demanded answers to a series of questions, including:

    • What process does your leadership use to identify and correct deficiencies in resident care?
    • What concrete actions are you taking to resolve staffing shortages and ensure adequate nursing coverage at Colonial Heights?
    • How many compliance surveys have been conducted at your facility in the past five years for state and federal requirements? Have any of these surveys been related to allegations of abuse or neglect? If so, were any deficiencies in those areas substantiated?
    • What corrective actions have been imposed on your facility in the past five years? Are there any ongoing corrective actions currently in place while your facility works to resolve deficiencies identified during surveys?
    • Did the most recent survey result in any corrective actions related to your license to operate issued by the Virginia Department of Health?
    • Moving forward, what steps will you take to provide greater transparency and accountability around the quality of care provided at the facility?

Source: US Representative Gabe Vasquez’s (NM-02)

Vasquez, New Mexico Congressional Delegation: “Honor the voices of New Mexicans and confirm that you will leave the Organ Mountains, Rio Grande del Norte, Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks, and all other national monuments intact”

WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.) led the New Mexico Congressional Delegation in urging the Department of the Interior to leave Organ Mountains — Desert Peaks National Monument (OMDP)  intact. The letter comes in anticipation of a number of harmful executive orders to be announced, including one that will purportedly target America’s national monuments. Vasquez was joined by U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M) and U.S. Representatives Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.) and Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.).

“Our national monuments in New Mexico protect some of the most significant landscapes and cultural resources in the nation. The monuments were carefully curated and represent a balance of public land protection negotiated between local leaders, communities, Tribes, and our constituents. The areas protected under national monument status across the state are culturally valuable, archeologically and geologically unique, and represent a conservation legacy that should not be erased,” the lawmakers wrote. “National monuments are vitally important to our history and any proposals to reduce their boundaries will not be reflective of the voices of New Mexicans.”

The lawmakers emphasized how crucial New Mexico’s national monuments are to the state’s economy, underscoring the significant revenue particular monuments under threat of elimination generate annually, “In New Mexico, we have a $3.2 billion outdoor recreation sector and monuments are a significant contributor to this robust economy. In 2022 alone, monument visitation resulted in $1.9 million in tax revenue. The economic impacts of visitation to Organ Mountains — Desert Peaks National Monument (OMDP) surpassed the initial prediction by more than 50 percent. In just one year after its establishment, the Rio Grande del Norte (RGDN) National Monument saw a 40 percent increase in visitors, resulting in a 21 percent increase in Town of Taos lodgers’ tax revenue.”

The lawmakers continued, highlighting the immeasurable cultural and economic impact of three national monuments in New Mexico under consideration for reduction or elimination: Organ Mountains — Desert Peaks, Rio Grande del Norte, and Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks, “In OMDP in southern New Mexico, you will find significant petroglyph and archeological sites and walk among historic travelers’ routes. In northern New Mexico, RGDN boasts some of New Mexico’s most prized recreational opportunities in an area where the Rio Grande carves an 800-foot gorge through historic volcanic activity. RGDN offers immense economic value to northern New Mexico and provides access for traditional use like piñon nut collection. As for the third monument under review, Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument, the Bureau of Land Management recently celebrated the monument’s inclusion on TIME’s World’s Greatest Places of 2025. Not only is Tent Rocks “geologically surreal,” but it is also a sacred landscape to the Cochiti Pueblo.”

The lawmakers concluded by demanding the Administration keep New Mexico’s national monuments intact, “There is no greater value to these natural landscapes than what is brought to the community through their continued protection. Withdrawing protections from these sites would threaten the economic benefits associated with New Mexico’s outdoor recreation economy and it undermines our community and tribal voices. We urge you to honor the voices of New Mexicans and confirm that you will leave the Organ Mountains, Rio Grande del Norte, Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks, and all other national monuments intact.”

“Math isn’t just numbers – it’s the universal language of innovation and the backbone of many industries shaping our future,” said Kim. “STEM education opens new doors for students, drives economic growth, strengthens our national security, and ensures America remains globally competitive. I’m proud to lead this bipartisan resolution recognizing Mathematics and Statistics Awareness Month and reaffirming our commitment to investing in STEM education so that future generations can achieve their American Dream.”

I’m proud to join my colleagues in uplifting the current and future mathematicians and statisticians who move our country forward and improve our lives,” said Tonko.

Source: US Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10)

“Despite his public statements, President Donald Trump’s actions have made it abundantly clear how little he truly cares about the health and safety of the American people. At his direction, the Department of Justice has canceled hundreds of previously allocated grants that supported youth gun violence prevention programs, opioid addiction treatment centers, and community initiatives aimed at protecting those most often targeted by hate crimes.

“These grant cuts expose the blatant hypocrisy from an administration determined to dismantle programs that protect the American people. Trump campaigned on improving public safety, yet slashing programs that reduce the demand for guns and drugs will only make our communities less safe.

“Legislation like my PROSPER Act—which invests in community violence prevention— significantly boosts proven methods that reduce crime and improve public safety, including initiatives and programs that prevent delinquency, curb gang activity, and address the gun violence crisis. As Trump continues to strip funding from vital organizations doing the hard work in our communities, it is even more important for Congress to act to keep the public safe. “

TUCSON, AZ – U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani on Thursday hosted the second annual Veteran Servant Leader Award Ceremony, honoring 31 local veterans who served in the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force.

This award recognizes veterans from Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, Pinal, and Pima Counties for their continued service to our communities after they leave the Armed Forces. Each winner will receive a Veteran Servant Leader Award certificate and a challenge coin from the Congressman. Those who served in Vietnam will receive a special pin in addition to the other awards. You can watch opening remarks here

“Our veterans embody the highest ideals of courage and patriotism,” said Ciscomani. “I had the pleasure of hosting the second annual Veteran Servant Leader Award Ceremony to recognize their remarkable leadership, dedication, and service, even after their time in uniform. It is one of my highest honors to be able to recognize their efforts in front of their families and loved ones. Their continued contributions to our community embody what it means to be a servant leader and make southern Arizona, and our nation, stronger.”

Ciscomani represents nearly 80,000 veterans and serves on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee. Through casework, Ciscomani and his team have returned $3.65 million to veterans, including $1.25 million since January. This is money that was owed to veteran-constituents but was stuck in the bureaucracy of a federal agency, such as the Department of Veterans Affairs, the IRS, Social Security, and more.

In the 119th Congress, he introduced 3 pieces of veterans-focused legislation, with one of these bills already passing the House of Representatives unanimously
    • The Prioritizing Veterans’ Survivor Act (H.R. 1228) would move the Office of Survivors Assistance (OSA) back within the Office of the VA Secretary to ensure that families of fallen veterans are able to receive the benefits and support they deserve.
      • This bill passed the House of Representatives unanimously on April 9, 2025.
    • The Coordinating Care for Senior Veterans and Wounded Warriors Act (H.R. 668) would improve healthcare coordination and management for veterans over the age of 65 who qualify for benefits from both the VA and Medicare.
    • The Veterans Education and Technical Skills (VETS) Opportunity Act (H.R. 1458) would expand veterans’ access to educational opportunities for high-demand skilled trade and vocational programs, whether they are in-person or partially online.

His administration terminated a $1 billion emergency food assistance grant that New York City organizations depended on to feed New Yorkers in need, and his cuts to the emergency rental assistance program as well as child care programs like Head Start have impacted thousands of New Yorkers’ ability to afford the already high cost of living. To compound the issue, the GOP’s budget proposal would cut SNAP and Medicaid significantly, which over 5 million New Yorkers rely on for nutrition and health care.

“Donald Trump and the GOP’s reckless, self-serving agenda is breaking his campaign promises by making it harder than ever for working New Yorkers to put food on the table and provide for their families,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “Grocery prices are soaring, and families are struggling across the country, all so that Trump and Congressional Republicans can hand out tax breaks to billionaires. After running on a platform to lower costs, Trump has completely abandoned working Americans with reckless and pointless tariffs that have skyrocketed everyday costs while pushing forward with massive cuts to government programs that help New Yorkers get by.  It is long past time that New York’s Republican members of Congress choose their constituents over Trump’s billionaire buddies.”

Councilmember Susan Zhuang said, “For years the cost of groceries, utilities, property taxes, and more has increased. Within the last few months, we’re watching those rates sky-rocket. I dedicate my time to make our community affordable because right now it’s difficult to put food on the table. We must pay attention to these rising costs and fight against it at the federal, state, and local levels.”

Wai Yee Chan, President & CEO of Homecrest Community Services, said, “As the cost of living continues to rise, our community is feeling the pressure. While tariffs aim to protect local industries and ensure fair trade, they can also contribute to higher prices for everyday goods. When businesses face increased import costs, those expenses are often passed on to consumers. Nearly half of our members shared this week that they are struggling to afford basic necessities like food and rent. At Homecrest Community Services, we are deeply concerned about the growing financial strain on working families. We will continue to keep a close eye on the situation and work with partners at all levels to find fair solutions—ones that help our economy grow without putting too much pressure on everyday New Yorkers.”

Nicole Huang, Executive Director of Parent Child Relationship Association, said, “Rising costs are not just numbers — they are daily struggles, especially for our most vulnerable communities.”

Congressman Goldman has made supporting working families a centerpiece of his time in office.

In February 2025, Congressman Goldman joined Congresswoman DeLauro in introducing the ‘American Family Act,’ which would codify the expired, COVID-19-era expanded monthly Child Tax Credit. Passed temporarily in the Congressional Democrats’ American Rescue Plan, the expanded Child Tax Credit reached more than 61 million children and lifted nearly 4 million out of poverty in 2021 alone.
In August 2024, Congressman Goldman cosponsored the ‘SNAP Theft Protection Act,’ which aims to update the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to allow states to use existing SNAP funding to refund stolen benefits to victims of SNAP-related scams.
In July 2024, Congressman Goldman held a Summer Nutrition Town Hall to discuss food insecurity, share information about New York State’s Summer EBT program and its rollout, and provide resources to residents who would like to apply.

Sheridan, WY – Congresswoman Harriet Hageman and her team joined staff members of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee for an oversight visit to the Sheridan Veterans’ Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) to review veteran care, facility conditions, and the implementation of recent reforms aimed at improving outcomes for Wyoming veterans.

This visit was driven by multiple concerning reports received by Rep. Hageman’s office indicating that the Sheridan VAMC was not fulfilling its mission with transparency, efficiency, and accountability.

“Our Wyoming veterans are incredibly important to me, to their communities, and to our state as a whole. It is of utmost importance that we give these men and women the medical care that is due them,” said Rep. Hageman. “I have had numerous constituents reach out to me with legitimate concerns around their treatment at the Sheridan VA, and after gathering substantial information, those concerns culminated with today’s visit. My advocacy for veterans will continue well past today, and I will work with my team, the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, and local stakeholders to ensure that our veterans receive the care they deserve.”

The visit included meetings with local service providers and staff on issues ranging from mental health services to claims processing and facility modernization needs.

The visit reflects Congresswoman Hageman’s ongoing commitment to protecting those who wore the uniform and ensuring federal agencies operate with the accountability and urgency our veterans deserve. There are over 45,000 veterans in Wyoming, and Congresswoman Hageman will continue to advocate for them all.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick Statement on the Smithsonian’s Purging of Black Artifacts

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Florida 20th district))

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) issued the following statement on reports that the Administration has purged exhibit items at the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

“This purge is nothing short of betrayal and is part of a dangerous, concerted effort to suppress the legacy of Black history. It is appalling that anyone would attempt to expunge the legacy of the courageous Greensboro Four. Had those students not launched a sit-in at that Woolworth’s whites-only counter in 1960, the racist policies of the Jim Crow South would reverberate for eternity.”

The beauty of our nation lies in how we’ve gotten to where we are today and the struggles that paved the way. Erasing our nation’s painful past will come at a cost for generations yet to come.

“Black history is American history. It must be taught in full by the Smithsonian without a sugarcoated or incomplete narrative. For the sake of our nation — and for all those who paid with their lives advancing civil rights — these attacks must stop immediately.”
