  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Robert Garcia Urges Support for Superfund Designation of Exide Technologies and Impacted Communities in Vernon, California

    Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) sent a letter to the head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) urging support for adding Exide Technologies, Inc., in Vernon, California, to the National Priorities List (NPL), a key step towards a final Superfund Designation. The letter highlights the need for federal resources to facilitate a long-term comprehensive cleanup of the affected communities and to secure environmental justice for the residents of Southeast Los Angeles. Congressman Garcia emphasized that any federal cleanup must address soil, air, and other pollution sources, in addition to groundwater.     “Dear Administrator Regan,

    Thank you for your commitment to addressing critical threats to human health and the environment. I am writing in support of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed addition of Exide Technologies, Inc., in Vernon, California to the National Priorities List (NPL) and the federal resources necessary for a long-term, comprehensive cleanup of the affected communities.

    One of my first actions in Congress was writing with our California Senators on February 13, 2023, to urge you to designate this as a Superfund site. In our letter, we highlighted that, ‘the severity of the crisis, the failure of past remediation efforts to create healthy communities, and the risk to public health requires assistance from the EPA and the resources available under the Superfund program.’ Additionally, I directly raised this issue with you during a July 10, 2024, hearing of the Oversight and Accountability Committee.

    For decades, Exide Technologies released dangerously high levels of lead, trichloroethylene (TCE), a known human carcinogen, and other toxic substances in the air, water, and soil of the residential cities and neighborhoods surrounding Vernon—notably Maywood, Commerce, East Los Angeles, and Boyle Heights, California. The impact of this environmental degradation has been most severe in historically underserved, Latino communities.

    There are no safe levels of lead for any family or child. As you know, lead is a potent toxicant linked to severe behavioral, developmental, and educational impacts, and it is also a contributor to high blood pressure and heart disease. The federal government’s intervention is essential to fully correct the failures of past remediation efforts and to resolve this crisis.

    The Southeast L.A. communities I represent deserve the basic right to a clean, safe environment—not just groundwater. If your investigation confirms soil lead contamination above background levels linked to the Exide site, it is essential that the EPA collaborates with the community to implement a cleanup plan aligned with California’s lead contamination standard of 80 parts per million.

    The time has come for decisive federal action to rectify these long-standing environmental injustices. I stand ready to collaborate with the EPA to ensure a comprehensive resolution to this crisis and to help bring about a future where every resident can live without the threat of pollution in their homes, air, and water.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Mfume & Sessions Request GAO Examine $2.7 Trillion in Improper Payments and Provide Anti-Fraud Recommendations

    WASHINGTON, D.C.—Subcommittee on Government Operations and the Federal Workforce Chairman Pete Sessions (R-Texas) and Ranking Member Kweisi Mfume (D-Md.) are advancing bipartisan oversight to tackle improper payments and fraud in federal government programs. In a letter to the Comptroller General at the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) Gene Dodaro, they request information on how federal agencies are identifying root causes of improper payments and implementing corrective actions and ask GAO to provide recommendations to help reduce improper payments across federal agencies.

    “The Subcommittee on Government Operations and the Federal Workforce recently held its third hearing related to improper payments and fraud in the federal government. The goal of that hearing was to discuss agencies’ progress preventing improper payments and fraud in the federal government’s lifesaving programs,” wrote the lawmakers. “The Subcommittee seeks to continuously evaluate whether agencies are getting better or worse at ensuring the levels of fraud seen during the pandemic will “never happen again.” Unfortunately, because of limited or unreliable information maintained by federal agencies, the Subcommittee has been unable to adequately assess agencies’ progress.”

    The Subcommittee on Government Operations and the Federal Workforce recently held a hearing where the GAO highlighted improper payments and fraud across government, totaling $2.7 trillion in improper payments since 2003. Witness testimonies at prior hearings made clear that continuing to do the same things to address improper payments is not fully addressing a long-term problem. The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has identified a list of high priority programs, which are those with the highest dollar value or rate of improper payments or those with the highest risk of improper payments. 

    “Federal law requires [high priority] programs report information such as the root causes of their improper payments, mitigation strategies, and corrective action measures. However, the amount of improper payments within these programs continues to grow,” continued the lawmakers. “We ask that GAO regularly update Subcommittee staff on the progress of this review and provide periodic briefings on known practices that have helped prevent improper payments and fraud.

    Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (VA-04) issued the following statement after the Supreme Court granted a stay of the lower court’s injunction of Governor Glenn Youngkin’s voter purge: 

    “Governor Youngkin’s decision to purge 1,600 Virginians from the voter rolls 90 days before the election violates federal law. Governor Youngkin and Virginia officials further compounded the situation by failing to take any additional measures to verify impacted individuals’ citizenship status. We know lifelong Virginians and long-term voters were wrongfully removed from the rolls by this haphazard, shortsighted, and inaccurate voter purge. 

    “Governor Youngkin’s purge and the Supreme Court’s refusal to stay the decision pending appeal on the merits demonstrate a blatant disregard for the fundamental right to vote of American citizens caught up in their zeal to prevent something that is already illegal and punishable by up to five years in prison. In a government by, of, and for the people, lawmakers and government officials should take extra steps to ensure they do not infringe on the right to vote of a single eligible American citizen. That did not happen here. 

    “My office has already received calls from constituents who were inaccurately removed from the rolls. With less than a week until the most consequential election of our lifetime, impacted citizens must now take additional actions to ensure their vote will still count. It’s an unreasonable burden to place on voters in a state with an ugly history of voter suppression. I will continue fighting in Congress to shore up voter protections and ensure every American can exercise their fundamental right to vote.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Cory Mills Demands the Department of Justice Investigate Kamala Harris’ Questionless Press Conference Attacking Republican Presidential Candidate and Former President Donald J. Trump

    Washington, D.C. — Last week, Congressman Cory Mills (FL-07) sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland demanding that the Department of Justice investigate Kamala Harris’ questionless “press conference” hosted at the official residence of the United States Vice President. As a result, this is a direct use of official authority to affect the upcoming election, potentially breaching the Hatch Act.

    “The Hatch Act, which prohibits using official resources to support partisan political campaigns, does not apply to the President and Vice President in civil provisions, however, it does not exempt them from criminal provisions. Presidential candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris’ questionless “press conference” on Wednesday was filled with defamatory accusations aimed at her political opponent. The American people deserve leaders who uphold the integrity of their official office and play by the rules, not those who exploit their official position for electoral advantage,” said Rep. Cory Mills (FL-07). “There must be accountability for her actions, which once again raises the question about her commitment to ethical governance. As we approach this upcoming election, we must demand that Harris not exploit her office for political gain.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Deluzio Celebrates $4.3 Million for Shaler Township Water System

    CARNEGIE, PA — Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) announced that Shaler Township, a community in Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District, is receiving $4.3 million in a federal investment for water infrastructure improvements. Specifically, the project will replace defective infrastructure in the Township’s public sewer system through PENNVEST low-interest financial assistance loans. 

    “It’s simple: the good people of Shaler Township need a dependable water system. I’m proud to see these federal dollars come home to make sure Shaler’s water is safe,” said Rep. Chris Deluzio. “I came to Congress to make life better for folks in Western PA, and fixing our infrastructure—like this project funded through the Infrastructure Law—is a big part of that work.” 

    The project will repair 30,000 feet of defective sewer lines, rehabilitate 177 manholes through direct excavation and in situ lining, and install 29 new manhole structures. This project will help Shaler Township meet water safety standards, as it pulls the Township into compliance with the infiltration and inflow Consent Order with the Allegheny County Health Department. 

    The federal funding for this project comes from the Biden-Harris Administration’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and is awarded to Shaler Township through PENNVEST, a Pennsylvania State financing authority. The authority provides low-cost financial assistance to address water, wastewater, stormwater, and non-point source pollution problems in local water systems that impact public health, safety, the environment, regulatory compliance, and economic development. PENNVEST’s two-part goal is to provide all Pennsylvanians access to clean water while also supporting the Commonwealth’s economic development.

    The ‘Investigative Integrity Protection Act’ Would Prevent Sitting Presidents from Dismissing Own Active Criminal Prosecutions

    Washington, DC – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) joined Congressman Adam Schiff (CA-30) in introducing the ‘Investigative Integrity Protection Act,’ which would prevent a sitting president from dismissing an active criminal prosecution against him or herself, including through coercion of an attorney general by the president or anyone acting on the president’s behalf. 

    “The Rule of Law dictates that no person should be the judge and jury of his own case, yet Donald Trump has promised to throw out the federal criminal cases against him if he becomes President,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “Trump used the power of his office in many ways during his first term, so it is imperative that we codify the guardrails necessary to protect our nation from descending into dictatorship.”  

    In the event that an Attorney General would seek to dismiss any criminal prosecution against the president, the Investigative Integrity Protection Act would: 

    • Only allow the court to grant a dismissal after having considered a number of factors, including whether the Attorney General was appointed with the intent of dismissing any criminal prosecution against the President; 

    Congressman Goldman remains committed to protecting American democracy from those who wish to undermine and destroy it.  

    As his first bill in Congress, Goldman introduced the ‘Early Voting Act,’ which would require at least a 14-day window of in-person early voting for federal elections across the country. The bill would also require that election officials maximize polling place accessibility and would take steps to address unacceptably long wait-times for voters in line to cast their ballots and for election results by mandating that election officials start processing and scanning ballots at least 14 days prior to Election Day. 

    In February 2024, the Congressman cosponsored the ‘Preventing Private Paramilitary Activity Act’ to protect citizens the from intimidation and mass mobilizations of paramilitary groups. This legislation would federally prohibit those in private paramilitary organizations from conducting activity with firearms.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Salazar and Pettersen Introduce Legislation to Improve Retirement Security for Family Caregivers

    WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) joined Rep. Brittany Pettersen (D-CO) in introducing two bills to give critical support to caregivers across the United States who selflessly support their families. U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Mark Warner (D-VA) introduced the Senate versions of these bills.

    The Improving Retirement Security for Family Caregivers Act (H.R. 9765) and Catching Up Family Caregivers Act (H.R. 9764) would help address the financial challenges faced by individuals who leave the workforce to care for loved ones, often sacrificing their own long-term financial security. Our family caregivers need as many tax breaks and incentives as possible to help navigate the challenges they face while supporting their family.

    “Caregiving is one of the most important jobs, but our current policies penalize selfless Americans who look after their loved ones,” said Rep. Salazar. “I’m proud to co-lead the Improving Retirement Security for Family Caregivers Act and the Catching Up Family Caregivers Act, which will reward caregivers with new opportunities to secure a dignified retirement.”

    The Improving Retirement Security for Family Caregivers Act would allow family caregivers to contribute up to $7,000 annually to a Roth IRA, even if their income falls below that threshold. Current law caps contributions at the lower of $7,000 or yearly income, limiting caregivers’ ability to save for retirement when their earnings are reduced due to caregiving responsibilities. By eliminating this income cap for family caregivers, the bill would help to ensure that they can continue to save for retirement despite their reduced wages. 

    The Catching Up Family Caregivers Act would allow family caregivers to make catch-up contributions to employer-sponsored retirement plans, an option typically reserved for those over age 50. For every year they are out of the workforce, caregivers could be eligible for an additional year of catch-up contributions, up to a maximum of five years. This provision would help caregivers who miss critical savings years get back on track with their retirement planning.

    Both bills are supported by the Alzheimer’s Association, the Edward Jones Grassroots Task Force, the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), the Insured Retirement Institute, and the National Alliance for Caregiving.

    “Caregivers do some of the most important but under-appreciated work in our country,” said Rep. Pettersen. “Caregivers do everything from cooking meals, administering medications, paying bills, and driving their loved ones to frequent medical appointments. Caregivers often take a significant financial hit when they take time out of the workforce to prioritize their loved ones and many struggle with their own financial security and ability to save in the long term. These two pieces of legislation make it easier for caregivers to save for retirement, ensuring they can take care of their own financial health while caring for their family.”

    “Family caregivers provide critical support to their loved ones, yet many are forced to step away from work, significantly inhibiting their ability to save for retirement,” said Senator Collins. “Our bipartisan bills would give these individuals a better opportunity to build a secure financial future and help ensure they are not penalized for the vital care they provide.”

    BACKGROUND:

    Women often take time away from careers to care for their families, resulting in a significant loss to their retirement savings. According to the Center for American Progress, an average 26-year-old female making $60,000 a year who leaves the workforce for five years to care for her children will lose close to one million dollars over her lifetime due to lost retirement assets and wage growth. A recent study from the Edward Jones Grassroots Taskforce found that 64 percent of women say their caregiving duties have negatively impacted their ability to save towards their long-term financial goals. Those taking care of an aging parent often face similar repercussions to being a family caregiver. In 2020, AARP found that three in ten caregivers have stopped contributing to their savings. Therefore, these proposals would allow those who dedicate at least 500 hours to family caregiving and are unemployed or severely underemployed the ability to contribute to their retirement now and later.

Kat Cammack joined Congressman Aaron Bean (FL-04) in demanding USPS Inspector General Tammy Hull and the Office of Inspector General (OIG) audit and investigate the Regional Processing and Distribution Center (RPDC) in Jacksonville, FL.

    Reps. Buddy Carter (GA-01), Mike Waltz (FL-06), and John Rutherford (FL-05) also joined the effort in requesting specific answers and solutions to the months-long delays and mail delivery inconsistencies families, seniors, and businesses continue to face in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.

    In the letter, the lawmakers wrote: “As members of Congress, it is our responsibility to conduct oversight and ensure the USPS is serving the people effectively. Therefore, we request the USPS Office of Inspector General to thoroughly audit and investigate the postal situation in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. Specifically, we request to know the reason for the delays, how the transition to the Jacksonville RPDC has been implemented, and actions that can be taken to restore confidence in the postal services in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Garbarino, Gottheimer Introduce Bipartisan FLOAT Act to Reduce the Financial Burden Of Flood Insurance Costs

    WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressmen Andrew R. Garbarino (R-NY-02) and Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ-05) introduced the bipartisan Flood Loss Offset and Affordability Tax Credit (FLOAT) Act. The legislation introduces a tax credit of up to $1,000 to help individuals and families afford flood insurance premiums, whether through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) or private insurers.

    The FLOAT Act aims to ease the financial burden of flood insurance, encouraging homeowners to invest in protective coverage. The tax credit will be available to households earning under $200,000 annually, with a phaseout for higher incomes, and up to $400,000 for joint filers. The credit is also limited to primary residences and is inflation-adjusted to ensure long-term affordability.

    “Long Islanders know firsthand the impact of flooding and the importance of being prepared. This legislation provides a critical incentive for homeowners to protect their properties without breaking the bank,” said Rep. Garbarino. “With instances of severe weather on the rise, the FLOAT Act ensures that families in my district can afford flood insurance coverage, enabling them to recover quickly and avoid devastating financial losses.”

    The FLOAT Act reflects a proactive approach to mitigating the risks and costs associated with severe weather events. By offering an annual tax credit for flood insurance premiums, the legislation makes insurance more accessible and ensures that homeowners and their communities can withstand and recover from disasters more effectively.

    CRANSTON, R.I. — U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) joined HealthSource RI (HSRI) Director Lindsay Lang today at Comprehensive Community Action Program (CCAP)’s Family Health Services of Cranston to kick off the annual Open Enrollment period for the state’s health exchange, beginning Friday, November 1 and running through January 31. New customers can purchase plans, and existing customers can change their plan selections during this time without needing a qualifying life event.

    HSRI has served nearly 161,000 Rhode Islanders since its inception in 2013, roughly mirroring the proportion of 1 in 7 Americans, or about 50 million individuals, served by state and federal exchanges nationwide. HSRI’s role in connecting Rhode Islanders to coverage has been booming in recent months, with enrollment swelling to an all-time high of more than 46,000 in its individual and family plan offerings, and an additional 8,200 lives covered through its small employers arm serving local businesses and nonprofits with access to small group plans. Recent findings of its Health Information Survey put Rhode Island’s uninsured rate at a remarkably low 2.2%, among the best in the nation.

    “Every Rhode Islander deserves access to affordable, high-quality healthcare,” said Rep. Seth Magaziner. “The Affordable Care Act has expanded health coverage for tens of thousands of people in our state, and I will continue fighting to protect this lifesaving law from those who seek to repeal it.”

    As the only place Rhode Islanders can receive financial help to pay for their health coverage, HSRI plays a vital role in connecting customers to quality coverage. Currently, 6 out of 7 HSRI customers receive financial assistance, and nearly a third of customers pay less than $10 per month for their health coverage. For 2025, customers can choose from an array of 20 health plans and seven dental plans, all provided by well-known insurance carriers, when shopping through the marketplace. Cost-comparison tools on the HealthSource RI website and an abundance of phone, web-based and in-person support options make it convenient to get help when reviewing plans.

    The Constitution entrusts each House of Congress with the responsibility to “judge the Elections, Returns, and Qualifications of its own Members.” This authority was brought into focus in 2020 when Democrats attempted to overturn the certified results of an Iowa congressional race and install their preferred candidate instead.

    The Election Observer Program deploys congressional observers to polling locations nationwide to collect real-time, factual data that can assist in election disputes, seating challenges, and other election-related matters. This initiative is essential to House Administration Republicans’ work to promote election integrity and rebuild public confidence in the voting process. House staff members are encouraged to volunteer, and mandatory training is required for participation.

    “Elections have consequences, and there are few elections as consequential as the one taking place this November,” said Ellzey. This bill puts American businesses first and saves taxpayer dollars from duplicative and wasteful spending.
       
    • Introduced H.R.7984, the Rural Small Business Resilience Act: Would require the Small Business Administration (SBA) to improve access to disaster assistance and relief programs for rural business owners to efficiently mitigate effects of natural disasters.
       
    • Cosponsored H.R. 4721, the Main Street Tax Certainty Act: Permanently extends tax deductions for small and family-owned businesses, giving them greater flexibility to invest in new employers, expansion, or their communities.
       
    • Cosponsored H.R. 895, the Combatting Organized Retail Crime Act: Would deter future attacks on U.S. retailers by enhancing federal coordination, establishing an aligned multi-agency response, and creating new tools to tackle evolving trends in organized retail theft.

The Election Observer Program will deploy congressional observers to election sites across the country in order to record on-the-ground, factual information for use during elections contests or seating battles and for other purposes.

    Representative Hageman stated, “Earlier this year, the House of Representatives passed the SAVE Act, which I cosponsored, to require states to obtain proof of citizenship—in person—when registering an individual to vote, as well as to require states to remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls. The Chuck Schumer-led Senate failed to take up the bill. 

    “To safeguard election integrity, we must use all means available to us. That is why my office is participating in the House Election Observer Program. Faith in our electoral process is the bedrock of our system of government.   • MIL-OSI USA: Kamlager-Dove Secures $500K for Permanent Supportive Housing Site in West LA

    LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) presented a $500,000 check to IKAR to assist in the development of the new IKAR Center and Supportive Housing Project. This project is one of fifteen that Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove secured a total of $12.4 million for through Fiscal Year 2024 government funding legislation.

    This project will build at least 60 units of permanent supportive housing for unhoused people, including seniors, atop a new Jewish community campus. The project will also include space for supportive services and indoor and outdoor common areas for residents. Located on S. La Cienega Blvd., the development will be situated in a high-opportunity, transit-rich corridor that is lacking in affordable housing and permanent supportive housing.

    “Ensuring that all Angelenos have a place to call home isn’t just good policy—it is a moral obligation, often informed by faith.     WASHINGTON, D.C. — Ahead of a coming United Nations review of the human rights situation in North Korea, U.S. Rep. Michelle Steel is calling on the Biden-Harris Administration to hold Kim Jong-un’s regime accountable for failing to respect human rights obligations under international law.

    Steel, a first-generation immigrant whose parents fled North Korea, wrote a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken highlighting a series of concerns including North Korea’s campaign of torture, unlawful detainment and improper refugee treatment, among other issues.

    The United States will have an opportunity to raise areas of concern as part of the United Nations Human Rights Council’s review process.

    “Decades after my parents fled following a communist takeover, North Korea’s government continues to abuse basic human rights and aggressively persecute its own citizens,” said Rep. Michelle Steel. “Innocent North Koreans, defectors, and detained foreign citizens need the United States’ help now more than ever.   • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Zinke Announces over $31 Million dollars in Transportation Grants for Bridge and Airport Projects Across Western Montana

    Funds will go to replacing the Sportsman Bridge in Bigfork as well as expansion and modernization projects for airports in Missoula and Kalispell

    (WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Today, Western Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke announced the allocation of over $28.4 million in funding for bridge replacement in Bigfork, Montana. The new bridge will have an expanded deck width, be built on a redundant girder system, and use geogrid reinforcement to improve seismic resiliency. Sportsman Bridge was constructed in 1955 and currently does not meet standards for traffic volume in the area.

    The Congressman also announced two grants for airports in Kalispell and Missoula. The Missoula Montana Airport will be using the $875,000 for a revenue guarantee and associated marketing plan to recruit, initiate, and support year-round service to Chicago, expanding service to the airport. Glacier Park International Airport in Kalispell will be using the $2.5 million in funds to expand terminals and modernize gates and ticket areas, hold rooms, checkpoint lanes, utilities upgrades, and building envelope upgrades to improve efficiency, capacity, and accessibility.

    “Montana has been ignored for decades on our infrastructure. When counties don’t have working bridges, roads, airports, or sewer systems, they can’t promote growth in their economies,” said Congressman Zinke. “I am happy to be able to announce that with these grants we were able to get the Federal Government to pay attention to the needs of Montana.”

      

    Grant details are below:

    Recipient: Montana Department of Transportation

    Amount: $28,462,652

    Purpose: The project will replace the existing two-lane bridge with a more resilient two-lane bridge to maintain and improve access over the Flathead River in northwest Montana on Montana Highway 82 in Flathead County. Constructed in 1955, the existing bridge exhibits poor deck condition and its deck width does not meet current standards for accommodating future traffic volume growth. The structure also ranks high as a candidate for seismic retrofit as it is a two-girder non-redundant bridge that lies between two faults of the Mission Fault System. The new bridge will have an expanded deck width, be built on a redundant girder system, and use geogrid reinforcement to improve seismic resiliency. An additional 1.7 feet of freeboard and embankment protectors to route deck drainage will improve climate resiliency. Wider shoulders will allow drivers to pull out of travel lanes in emergency situations, allowing emergency responders to avoid vehicles parked on the shoulder.

      

    Recipient: Glacier Park International Airport

    Amount: $2,500,000

    Purpose: This award funds a portion of the terminal expansion and modernization project including gates and ticket areas, hold rooms, checkpoint lanes, utilities upgrades, and building envelope upgrades to improve efficiency, capacity, and accessibility.

      

    Recipient: Missoula Montana Airport 

    Amount: $875,000

    Purpose: Revenue guarantee and associated marketing plan to recruit, initiate, and support year-round service to Chicago (ORD).

    HULL, IOWA – Last week, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) helped introduce legislation – led by U.S. Rep. Trent Kelly (R-MS) – to help deliver financial relief to American farmers facing low commodity prices and high input costs this crop year.

    “President Biden and Vice President Harris approved trillions of dollars in reckless government spending that sent inflation skyrocketing and have completely failed to open new export markets for our producers. This one-two punch helped cause interest rates and input costs to rise significantly while a lack of demand for American-made agricultural products across the globe has exacerbated our low commodity prices,” said Rep. Feenstra. “It’s why I’m glad to support the FARM Act, which will deliver financial relief to our farmers and producers in the face of high operating costs and unrelenting inflation.     This legislation – dubbed the FARM Act – specifically directs the Secretary of Agriculture to make emergency assistance payments to farm producers to alleviate the financial imbalance between high input costs and low commodity prices.

    Chicago, IL – 10/29/2024 – Congressman Jonathan L. Jackson today issued a strong condemnation of the recent racist comments made against Puerto Ricans. In a statement, Congressman Jackson emphasized the importance of unity, respect, and the celebration of diversity within our nation.

    “These comments are not only deeply offensive but also completely unacceptable,” said the Congressman. “Puerto Ricans are an integral part of our American family, contributing to our society in countless ways. Racism and discrimination have no place in our country, and we must stand together to denounce such hateful rhetoric.”

    “It is very sad that Former President Trump did not condemn this, and other racist, bigoted, and divisive statements made during his rally. At his Madison Square Garden campaign rally, speakers referred to Puerto Rico as a ‘floating pile of garbage,’ said that African Americans ‘carved watermelons,’ referred to V.P. Kamala Harris as having a ‘pimp,’ described Democrats as ‘the enemy within,’ and repeated the 1939 Nazi chant ‘America for Americans.’ This rally follows previous statements where the former President claimed that Haitian migrants in Springfield, OH have been ‘eating the dogs, eating the cats.’ He has also referred to Mexicans as rapists and said that there were ‘very fine people on both sides’ during a Neo-Nazi rally in Charlottesville, VA.

    For Vice Presidential nominee J.D. Vance to also dismiss these hate speeches is absolutely beneath the dignity of anyone inspiring for any office of leadership in the U.S.  Vance has embraced that “Great Replacement Theory” which promotes the idea that “White People” are being replaced in America by minorities and thus we must have a stricter immigration policy as well as policies to force White women to produce more children.

    Congressman Jackson called for immediate action to address the issue and urged his colleagues in Congress to join him in condemning these remarks. “We must work tirelessly to ensure that all individuals, regardless of their background, are treated with dignity and respect,” he added. “Our diversity is our strength, and we must protect it.”

    The Congressman also highlighted the need for continued education and awareness to combat racism and promote inclusivity. “We have a responsibility to educate ourselves and others about the harmful effects of racism and to foster an environment where everyone feels valued and respected,” he said.

    WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Matt Rosendale (MT-02) introduced the University Forced Vaccination Student Injury Mitigation Act, which will require higher education institutions to pay the medical costs for any student who was required or is currently required to take a COVID-19 vaccine to attend classes and experienced an adverse reaction. The higher education institutions would lose all federal funds from the Department of Education if they do not comply with the requirements set out in the bill.   • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Robert Garcia Urges Social Security Administration to Protect Beneficiaries in Guaranteed Income Initiatives

    Washington, D.C.  – Today, Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) sent a letter to the head of the Social Security Administration (SSA) urging a rule change to ensure that individuals who benefit from guaranteed income programs can still access full Social Security Insurance (SSI) benefits. This change would allow SSI beneficiaries to take part in state and local guaranteed income programs and cash assistance initiatives that help low-income households, without putting their benefits at risk.     “Dear Administrator O’Malley,

    I am writing to urge the Social Security Administration (SSA) to address a critical issue affecting the interaction between direct cash programs and supplemental security income (SSI) benefits as part of its upcoming Overpayment Recovery rule, scheduled for April 2025. Specifically, SSA should take this opportunity to implement regulatory changes that will better protect SSI recipients who benefit from cash programs. These regulatory changes are urgently needed to clarify the definition of “Assistance Based on Need” (ABON) and ensure that state and local Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) programs are recognized appropriately in this context.

    Over the past five years, there has been a significant rise in direct cash programs aimed at improving the economic stability of low-income households, including guaranteed income initiatives, state and local tax credits, and TANF-funded cash transfer programs. During my mayoral tenure, I helped launch a transformational universal basic income pilot that provided critical financial support to low-income families.

    The program, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), has since benefitted hundreds of households, offering $500 monthly to families in the city’s lowest-income neighborhoods. Building on this experience, I recently introduced the Guaranteed Income for Foster Youth Act alongside Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and Mayors for a Guaranteed Income (MGI) co-chair Michael Tubbs, which would provide $1,000 monthly to young adults exiting foster care.

    These programs are designed to complement—not undermine—the existing social safety net. However, many SSI beneficiaries cannot participate in these programs without jeopardizing their benefits. SSA has yet to provide clear and comprehensive guidance on how to treat these cash transfers under SSI income determinations.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Bean Presses USPS Inspector General to Resolve NE Florida Mail Delivery Problems

    WASHINGTON—Today, in response to resident and industry complaints regarding late or lost mail, U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean (FL-04) demanded USPS Inspector General Tammy Hull and the Office of Inspector General (OIG) audit and investigate the Regional Processing and Distribution Center (RPDC) in Jacksonville, FL.

    Congressman Bean was joined by Buddy Carter (GA-01), Mike Waltz (FL-06), John Rutherford (FL-05), and Kat Cammack (FL-03) in requesting specific answers and solutions to the months-long delays and mail delivery inconsistences families, seniors, and businesses continue to face in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.

    Upon issuance of the letter, Congressman Bean said, “Since January, I’ve had many constituents reach out with concerns regarding delivery delays and lost mail. We all rely on the USPS for timely delivery of mail and packages, and I understand it’s not just a service, it’s a critical resource. That’s why I’m pushing the USPS Inspector General for answers and solutions, not excuses.”

    In the letter, the lawmakers wrote: “As members of Congress, it is our responsibility to conduct oversight and ensure the USPS is serving the people effectively. Therefore, we request the USPS Office of Inspector General to thoroughly audit and investigate the postal situation in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. Specifically, we request to know the reason for the delays, how the transition to the Jacksonville RPDC has been implemented, and actions that can be taken to restore confidence in the postal services in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.”

    Congressman D’Esposito (NY-04) and Congressman David Trone (MD-06) have introduced H.R.10038: Veterans Naloxone Access Expansion Act that would expand access to naloxone for veterans and caregivers of veterans.

    The Veterans Naloxone Access Expansion Act would remove restrictive requirements for acquiring naloxone, initiating a two-year pilot program allowing veterans and their caregivers the freedom to receive naloxone without a prescription or fee. Upon receiving naloxone, the VA will provide veterans and their caregivers invaluable information on addiction services, suicide prevention, mental health resources, and the use and application of naloxone. To understand the program’s impact and future considerations, the Secretary of the Department of Veteran’s Affairs will conduct a report to Congress, detailing the number of participants, the feasibility of extending this access to immediate family members and non-department providers, the potential effects of a consultation requirement by a VA medical provider and addressing any budgetary needs.

    While the current programs in place for providing naloxone have been effective in saving lives, the prescription requirement for veterans can dissuade them from utilizing care due to the stigma associated with substance use disorder and the process itself of acquiring the prescription. Furthermore, allowing caregivers of disabled veterans the ability to get naloxone without the prescription requirement and for free will help save lives.

    “America’s opioid crisis is affecting all Americans, especially the tens of thousands of veterans who’ve died from opioid related overdoses. Having already sacrificed so much for our freedoms, we owe it to our veterans to expand access to life saving treatments, not restrict access with bureaucratic red tape. I am proud to introduce this bipartisan legislation to do exactly that, to provide veterans and their caregivers the lifesaving drug naloxone.” said Congressman D’Esposito.

    “Naloxone has been proven highly effective at combating substance use disorder, saving countless lives,” said Congressman Lawler. “With so many of our nation’s veterans reeling from physical and psychological injuries incurred during their service, ensuring they have access to the help they need is mission critical.     WASHINGTON, D.C. — As first reported by Breitbart, U.S. Congressman Mark Alford (MO-04) sent a letter this week to U.S. Postal Service (USPS) Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to express his grave concern over reports that service members stationed abroad are being disenfranchised by the Postal Service’s delays in delivering their ballots to election authorities.

    Congressman Alford described voting as a fundamental right for all Americans and called on USPS to take urgent measures to address the issue and ensure that no service members are denied their Constitutional right to vote.

    “Election integrity is a key pillar in our democracy, and any actions that undermine free and fair elections are completely unacceptable,” said Congressman Alford. “The right to vote is a fundamental right for all Americans, enshrined in the United States Constitution. It is deeply concerning that members of our Armed Services stationed abroad could potentially be denied this right due to USPS errors.”

    I understand the USPS has attributed recent mail delays to major staffing shortages, an issue affecting various businesses nationwide. While I recognize the dedication of postal workers and mail carriers, there is no excuse for something as egregious as a failure to deliver ballots to our servicemembers. It is clear the USPS must take urgent measures to address this issue, and to prevent it from worsening. We cannot deny our servicemembers this Constitutional right, and it is your duty to ensure this does not continue.

    For these reasons, I request a timely response to the following questions:

    LANCASTER, CA – Representative Mike Garcia (CA-27) held a Veterans Town Hall at the Antelope Valley Community Resource Center, where he connected with veterans, advocates, and local leaders to address urgent issues affecting veterans in CA-27. Joined by Jon Clark, Staff Director for the House Veterans Affairs Committee, Rep. Garcia provided crucial updates on recent legislative wins, new resources, and his office’s ongoing commitment to supporting local veterans.

    A primary focus of the town hall was the recent passage of H.R.9468, the Veterans Benefits Continuity and Accountability Supplemental Appropriations Act, which Rep. Garcia introduced and got signed into law. This critical legislation closes a $2.883 billion gap in VA funding, securing uninterrupted benefits for over seven million veterans. The bill also mandates strong oversight, requiring the VA to provide regular reports on budget corrections and spending transparency, along with a comprehensive investigation into the causes of the recent budget shortfall.

    Rep. Garcia also shared plans for the new VA clinic in the Antelope Valley, set to open in 2025. This 20,000-square-foot facility will bring essential healthcare services closer to home for local veterans, including primary care, mental health, women’s health, and other specialized services. “The new clinic is a major win for veterans in the Antelope Valley,” Rep. Garcia said. “They won’t have to drive for hours to get the care they deserve. This clinic is built around the idea that veterans should receive top-notch care right here in their community.”

    Additionally, Rep. Garcia highlighted his office’s record of service to veterans in CA-27, noting that they’ve successfully closed over 600 veteran cases, helping with everything from securing benefits to navigating federal agencies.

    ●      Fully Funded VA Through Appropriations – Ensuring no cuts to the benefits veterans have earned.

    ●      Major Richard Star Act – Providing full retirement pay and disability benefits to veterans with a disability rating of at least 50%, regardless of years of service.

    ●      VA Same Day Scheduling Act – Requiring the VA to provide appointment times on the initial call, ending scheduling delays.

    ●      Elizabeth Dole Home Care Act – Expanding funding for home care options, enabling veterans to stay at home rather than in nursing facilities.

    ●      Veterans Education is Timeless Act – Removing expiration dates on GI Bill benefits so veterans can access education at any time.

    ●      Love Lives On Act – Ending penalties that cause surviving spouses to lose benefits if they remarry.

    ●      ACES Act – Addressing cancer risks for veterans who served in aviation roles, directing the VA to study ways to protect these service members.

  • MIL-OSI USA: McClellan Announces $6 Million in DOT Grant Award to Enhance Safety and Improve Service of Central Virginia Rail

    Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (VA-04) announced Buckingham Branch Railroad Company (BBRC) will receive $6,000,000 from the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) Program operated by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). The grant award will fund final design and construction activities on the BBRC Piedmont Subdivision, which will enhance safety and improve service and system performance.

    The federal funding provided by DOT will address the deteriorating conditions of ties, 83 miles of track, and seven grade crossings on the Piedmont Subdivision, which provides critical passenger rail service in communities like Richmond and Charlottesville. These track and tie replacements and resurfacing will increase resiliency and efficiency of the railway and reduce risk of derailment.

    “We must ensure we maintain and repair the infrastructure on the BBRC Piedmont Subdivision to sustain freight rail in rural and central Virginia,” said Congresswoman McClellan. “This robust grant funding will improve safety, efficiency, and resiliency and lay the groundwork for potential future passenger rail service connecting Hampton Roads to Southwest Virginia, something I have advocated for both in the Virginia General Assembly and now in Congress. I thank the Department of Transportation for this award and applaud the Biden-Harris Administration for its continued support of our nation’s rail systems.”

    CRISI supports projects aimed at improving safety, efficiency, and reliability of intercity passenger and freight rail. CRISI has made more than $2.4 billion available in CRISI grants for the 2023 and 2024 fiscal years.
