  • MIL-OSI Global: Forecasters expect a busy 2025 hurricane season – a storm scientist explains why and what meteorologists are watching

Source: The Conversation – USA – By Colin Zarzycki, Associate Professor of Meteorology and Climate Dynamics, Penn State

U.S. forecasters with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are expecting an above-normal 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, with 13 to 19 named storms, and 6 to 10 of those becoming hurricanes.

But, how do they know what’s likely to happen months in the future?

I’m an atmospheric scientist who studies extreme weather. Let’s take a look at what Atlantic hurricane forecasts are based on and why those forecasts can shift during the season, which runs from June 1 to Nov. 30.

What goes into a seasonal forecast

Think of the preseason hurricane forecast as the 30,000-foot view: It can’t predict if or when a storm will hit a particular location, but it can offer insight into how many storms are likely to form throughout the entire Atlantic, and how active the season overall might be.

These outlooks rely heavily on two large-scale climate factors.

The first is the sea surface temperature in areas where tropical cyclones tend to form and grow. Hurricanes draw their energy from warm ocean water. So when the Atlantic is unusually warm, as it has been in recent years, it provides more fuel for storms to form and intensify.

Once water temperatures are 79 degrees Fahrenheit (26 degrees Celsius), hurricanes can form. Most of the Gulf was above that by late May 2025.
    NOAA/NESDIS

The second key ingredient that meteorologists have their eye on is the El Niño–Southern Oscillation, which forecasters refer to as ENSO. ENSO is a climate cycle that shifts every few years between three main phases: El Niño, La Niña, and a neutral space that lives somewhere in between.

During El Niño, winds over the Atlantic high up in the troposphere – roughly 25,000 to 40,000 feet – strengthen and can disrupt storms and hurricanes. La Niña, on the other hand, tends to reduce these winds, making it easier for storms to form and grow. When you look over the historical hurricane record, La Niña years have tended to be busier than their El Niño counterparts, as we saw from 2020 through 2023.

We’re in the neutral phase as the 2025 hurricane season begins, and probably will be for at least a few more months. That means upper-level winds aren’t particularly hostile to hurricanes, but they’re not exactly rolling out the red carpet either.

At the same time, sea surface temperatures are running warmer than the 30-year average, but not quite at the record-breaking levels seen in some recent seasons.

Taken together, these conditions point to a moderately above-average hurricane season.

It’s important to emphasize that these factors merely load the dice, tilting the odds toward more or fewer storms, but not guaranteeing an outcome. A host of other variables influence whether a storm actually forms, how strong it becomes, and whether it ever threatens land.

The smaller influences forecasters can’t see yet

Once hurricane season is underway, forecasters start paying close attention to shorter-term influences.

These subseasonal factors evolve quickly enough that they don’t shape the entire season. However, they can noticeably raise or lower the chances for storms developing in the coming two to four weeks.

One factor is dust lofted from the Sahara Desert by strong winds and carried from east to west across the Atlantic.

These dust plumes tend to suppress hurricanes by drying out the atmosphere and reducing sunlight that reaches the ocean surface. Dust outbreaks are next-to-impossible to predict months in advance, but satellite observations of growing plumes can give forecasters a heads-up a couple weeks before the dust reaches the primary hurricane development region off the coast of Africa.

Dust blowing in from the Sahara Desert can tamp down hurricane activities by shading the ocean over the main development region for hurricanes and drying out the atmosphere, just off the African coast. This plume spread over 2,000 miles in June 2020.
    NASA

Another key ingredient that doesn’t go into seasonal forecasts but becomes important during the season are African easterly waves. These “waves” are clusters of thunderstorms that roll off the West African coast, tracking from east to west across the ocean. Most major storms in the Atlantic basin, especially in the peak months of August and September, can trace their origins back to one of these waves.

Forecasters monitor strong waves as they begin their westward journey across the Atlantic, knowing they can provide some insight about potential risks to U.S. interests one to two weeks in advance.

Also in this subseasonal mix is the Madden–Julian Oscillation. The MJO is a wave-like pulse of atmospheric activity that moves slowly around the tropics every 30 to 60 days. When the MJO is active over the Atlantic, it enhances the formation of thunderstorms associated with hurricanes. In its suppressed phase, storm activity tends to die down. The MJO doesn’t guarantee storms – or a lack of them – but it turns up or down the odds. Its phase and position can be tracked two or three weeks in advance.

Lastly, forecasters will talk about the Loop Current, a deep river of warm water that flows from the Caribbean into the Gulf of Mexico.

When storms pass over the Loop Current or its warm eddies, they can rapidly intensify because they are drawing energy from not just the warm surface water but from warm water that’s tens of meters deep. The Loop Current has helped power several historic Gulf storms, including Hurricanes Katrina in 2005 and Ida in 2021.

The Loop Current stretched well into the Gulf in May 2022. The scale, in meters, shows the maximum depth at which temperatures were 78 F (26 C) or greater.
Nick Shay/University of Miami, CC BY-ND

But the Loop Current is always shifting. Its strength and location in early summer may look very different by late August or September.

Combined, these subseasonal signals help forecasters fine-tune their outlooks as the season unfolds.

Where hurricanes form shifts over the months

Where storms are most likely to form and make landfall also changes as the pages of the calendar turn.

In early summer, the Gulf of Mexico warms up faster than the open Atlantic, making it a notable hotspot for early-season tropical storm development, especially in June and July. The Texas coast, Louisiana, and the Florida Panhandle often face a higher early-season risk than locations along the Eastern seaboard.

These are generally the busiest areas during each month of hurricane season, but that doesn’t mean hurricanes won’t make landfall elsewhere.
    NOAA

By August and September, the season reaches its peak. This is when those waves moving off the coast of Africa become a primary source of storm activity. These long-track storms are sometimes called “Cape Verde hurricanes” because they originate near the Cape Verde Islands off the African coast. While many stay over open water, others can gather steam and track toward the Caribbean, Florida or the Carolinas.

Later in the hurricane season, storms are more likely to form in the western Atlantic or Caribbean, where waters are still warm and upper-level winds remain favorable. These late-season systems have a higher probability of following atypical paths, as Sandy did in 2012 when it struck the New York City region and Milton did in 2024 before making landfall in Florida.

At the end of the day, the safest way to think about hurricane season is this: If you live along the coast, don’t let your guard down. Areas susceptible to hurricanes are never totally immune from hurricanes, and it only takes one to make it a dangerous – and unforgettable – season.

Common Starscope Problems & How to Fix Them
Even high-quality devices like the Starscope Monocular can encounter minor issues. Here are some common problems users have reported — and how to resolve them quickly:

    Problem: Blurry or Out-of-Focus Image

    Fix:

    • Rotate the focus ring slowly while looking through the eyepiece.
    • Make sure the lens is clean and free of fingerprints or smudges.
    • If using with a smartphone, ensure the adapter is properly aligned.

Problem: Smartphone Adapter Doesn’t Fit Properly

    Fix:

    • Loosen and adjust the clamp arms carefully — most adapters are universal but may require repositioning for multi-lens phones.
    • Try removing your phone case to improve alignment.

Problem: Double Vision or Image Distortion

    Fix:

    • Clean both lenses with a microfiber cloth.
    • Make sure the monocular isn’t fogged up (especially when moving between temperature zones).
    • Check if the internal lens is misaligned due to a drop — in rare cases, customer support may need to assist.

Problem: View Is Too Dark or Dim

    Fix:

    • Ensure you are not using it in complete darkness — Starscope is optimized for daylight and low-light, but not for nighttime use.
    • Wipe off any moisture or condensation from the lens.

Problem: Can’t See Anything Through the Eyepiece

    Fix:

    • Remove all lens caps.
    • Adjust your eye position — the exit pupil must align with your eye.
    • Twist the eyecup if you’re wearing glasses.

    Problem: Scratched or Smudged Lens

    Fix:

    • Use only soft, non-abrasive cloths (preferably microfiber).
    • Avoid using paper towels, shirts, or abrasive materials that could damage the lens coating.

    When to Contact Support

If none of the above solutions help, or if your monocular is damaged during shipping, contact Starscope’s official support through their website for warranty service or a replacement.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: China Auto Association Warns of ‘Involutionary’ Competition in NEV Market

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: People’s Republic of China in Russian – People’s Republic of China in Russian –

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

BEIJING, May 31 (Xinhua) — The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAA) has launched an industry-wide initiative calling on automakers to avoid disorderly competition in the country’s booming new energy vehicle (NEV) market.

The KAA statement stressed that despite the rapid growth of China’s NEV industry, which accounts for more than 40 percent of new vehicle sales in the country, the industry has seen a decline in profitability in recent years, largely due to increased “involutionary-style” competition accompanied by chaotic price wars.

Continuously increasing investment is needed to ensure after-sales service and innovative development of enterprises, and disorderly price wars seriously affect the normal business operations of enterprises, threaten the stability of industrial chains and supply chains, and drag the sector into a vicious circle, the KAA said.

The KAA noted that the recent significant price cuts initiated by one of the major automakers on May 23, which were subsequently followed by others, caused panic in the market.

The association warned that such price wars would further reduce the profitability of enterprises, thereby affecting the quality of products and after-sales services. This would not only hinder the healthy development of the industry itself, but also harm the rights and interests of consumers and create a hidden security threat.

All enterprises must strictly adhere to the principles of fair competition, while advantaged enterprises should not seek to displace other players in order to gain a monopoly, the initiative notes.

In addition to legitimate price adjustment measures, businesses should not sell their products at prices below cost, engage in deceptive marketing practices, or distort market order in ways that harm the fundamental interests of the industry and consumers, the CAA said.

All enterprises are also encouraged to conduct self-inspection and correct any identified problems in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations of the country. -0-

  • MIL-OSI Global: Investors are calling Trump a chicken – here’s why that matters

Source: The Conversation – UK – By Alex Dryden, PhD Student in Economics, Department of Economics, SOAS, University of London

Calling someone “chicken” might sound like a playground insult, but it’s exactly the label some financial investors have begun attaching to US president Donald Trump. The “Taco” trade, short for “Trump Always Chickens Out”, has gained traction in financial circles in recent weeks, as investors come to believe that whenever markets begin to slide as a result of one of his policy decisions, Trump tends to retreat.

The jibe appears to have struck a nerve. When a reporter asked him about the “chicken” reputation this week, Trump bristled. “Oh isn’t that nice – I chicken out. I’ve never heard that,” he snapped. The president returned to the topic later to criticise the “nasty” question and insisted that he was no such thing.

Policy reversals have been a hallmark of both Trump’s first and second terms. During the 2018-19 trade wars, he frequently threatened sweeping tariffs only to water them down in subsequent rounds of negotiation.

A similar pattern has emerged this year. In early April, Trump’s “liberation day” announcement triggered a sharp sell-off, with the S&P 500 falling more than 12% over the following week.

However, as market volatility surged, the administration softened its positioned and opted to delay the tariffs for 90 days. As the tariff plans were softened, markets rebounded. The index is now 4% higher than it was before the announcement and up 0.7% year-to-date.

To the president’s supporters, these policy U-turns reflect his shrewd negotiating tactics designed to extract concessions or cajole reluctant governments into striking trade deals. But to many investors, the pattern looks less like strategy and more like retreat. And while the Taco nickname might sound like a playground insult, for financial investors the jibe has a real impact on navigating financial markets.

    Credibility is currency

When investors call a politician or policymaker a “chicken”, it’s not just a jab at their courage. It’s a much more serious insult that calls into question their credibility. And in financial markets, that’s one of the most valuable assets a leader can have.

As a policymaker or politician, communicating successfully with markets depends on trust. Investors allocate capital based on expectations about the future – inflation, trade flows, interest rates, fiscal spending – and those expectations are influenced not only by what policymakers do, but by what they say.

If a leader regularly threatens sweeping economic action but repeatedly backs down at the first sign of trouble, their credibility begins to erode.

Once that doubt takes hold, it changes the dynamic. Investors begin to ignore warnings as threats are brushed off and policymakers’ influence loses its force.

The erosion of a leader’s credibility among investors is likely initially to dampen market volatility as investors begin to ignore the words of politicians and policymakers. They assume that the status quo will remain in place as a leader is unwilling or unable to instigate the changes they had initially proposed, leading to little change in financial markets. This weakens a leader’s ability to steer market expectations and, by extension, the broader economy.

However, the Taco mindset could be dangerous if it takes hold in markets. Once investors start to assume that Trump will always blink, they build their portfolios around that expectation. Talk of sweeping economic changes or significant increases in tariffs begin to be ignored as investors lean into risky positions in the belief that escalation will be avoided at the last minute. This can create a false sense of calm that holds only as long as Trump plays to type.

‘It’s called negotiating.’ Trump was clearly angered by the chicken jibe.

But the “chicken” jibe has clearly angered the president. He may well be looking for an opportunity to change investors’ minds. If Trump decides to hold the line by pushing through tariffs without compromise even in the face of legal action, or let a standoff over the US debt ceiling run hot, this could catch complacent investors off-guard.

The resulting repricing is likely to be sharp and disorderly. Volatility could spike, not because Trump changed, but because investors assumed he never would and then overreact when he does. In that sense, the real risk of the Taco mindset isn’t that it insults Trump – it’s that it provokes a stubborn response. A president who digs his heels in and ploughs ahead with risky policies despite all the warning signs would be bad news for the whole world – and the global economy.

  • MIL-OSI Asia-Pac: Tunnel runs smoothly after takeover

    Source: Hong Kong Information Services

The Transport Department said that the Government took over the Tai Lam Tunnel at 0.00am, and that the implementation of the new tolls and HKeToll has mostly been smooth so far.

Commissioner for Transport Angela Lee visited the Tai Lam Tunnel Administration Building in the small hours of today and was briefed by the operator’s management on the switchover works conducted during its full closure.

She also oversaw the tests and preparations prior to the introduction of HKeToll at the control centre.

The transport chief met tunnel management and engineering personnel of the operator and thanked the team for racing against time in completing the takeover work thoroughly, efficiently and smoothly.

Ms Lee was glad to note that the tunnel reopened at 5am as scheduled with the launch of HKeToll. She appreciated the tireless efforts of the multidisciplinary team comprising the Transport Department, the Highways Department and the Electrical & Mechanical Services Department in completing the necessary drills as well as installing adequate traffic signs and road markings, providing motorists with a smoother road experience.

The Transport Department’s Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre has been closely monitoring the traffic conditions before and after the takeover of the tunnel, and the traffic in both directions has generally been smooth so far. In addition, the traffic of alternative routes, such as Tuen Mun Road and Tolo Highway, has largely been smooth.

The centre will closely monitor the overall traffic conditions on June 2, the first working day, including the application of time-varying tolls on private cars and motorcycles at the tunnel for the first time.

Ms Lee said that as motorists, transport trades and members of the public may take time to adapt to new routes and adjust their commuting habits, traffic flow and public transport services will be closely monitored in the vicinity of the tunnel.

Following the substantial reduction of tolls and the roll-out of HKeToll, the Transport Department hopes to make optimal use of the tunnel’s spare capacity effectively to alleviate the busy traffic on alternative routes, such as Tuen Mun Road, thereby improving the flow of people and freight between the New Territories West/North and the urban areas, as well as achieving the objective of providing a smooth commute and bringing benefits to all sectors.

  • We don’t believe in dialogue with a gun pointed towards our forehead: Tharoor clarifies India’s stance against Pakistan

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, leading an all-party delegation to Colombia, stressed that there can be no dialogue with Pakistan until it takes concrete steps to dismantle terrorist networks operating from its territory. He emphasised that while India recognises the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue, such engagement cannot occur “with a gun pointed at its forehead.”

“We do not dispute the value of dialogue, but no nation can be expected to negotiate with a gun pointed at its forehead,” Tharoor said, leading an all-party parliamentary delegation to Latin America. He emphasized that Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence coexisted with an unwavering commitment to justice and freedom.

“Gandhiji taught us Ahimsa, but he also led a determined struggle for independence. Peace must be accompanied by self-respect, and freedom must come without fear,” he asserted.

Tharoor made it clear that India is open to dialogue — but only once Pakistan takes credible steps to dismantle terror infrastructure on its soil.

The Congress MP cited the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 civilian lives, as a turning point. “This was not just an act of terror — it was a targeted attack, where the victims were asked their religion before being shot. Such acts not only claim innocent lives but also affect the livelihoods of the people of Kashmir,” he said.

In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting known terror launch pads and infrastructure across the border. “We struck nine identified terror bases with precision, avoiding civilian areas. Our message was clear: we will respond strongly, but responsibly,” Tharoor explained.

Tharoor condemned Pakistan’s retaliatory shelling of civilian areas and reiterated India’s policy of proportionate response. “If you hit us, we will hit you hard. If you stop, we stop. After 18 hours, they stopped.”

Tharoor also drew attention to the unity of the Indian delegation, which comprises MPs from five political parties, seven states, and three religions. “We are united in our message: India stands firmly against terrorism and will continue to engage the world on this front.”

The delegation, part of India’s diplomatic outreach, has visited Panama, Guyana, and Colombia, and is scheduled to travel next to Brazil and the United States.

JERUSALEM, May 31 (Xinhua) — Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on Friday called on Hamas to accept the ceasefire offer in Gaza made by U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East Steven Witkoff “or be destroyed.”

According to media reports, Witkoff’s proposal includes the release of 10 surviving Israeli hostages and the handover of the bodies of 18 dead in two stages in exchange for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza. In return, the Israeli side will release 1,236 Palestinian detainees and hand over the bodies of 180 Palestinians.

In a statement released by his office, I. Katz said the Israeli military was continuing operations in Gaza at full force, carrying out attacks from the air, land and sea on an unprecedented scale “to provide maximum protection to our soldiers in preparation for the deployment of maneuver forces to each area.”

In a statement released on Friday, the Israeli military said the Israeli Air Force and ground forces had struck dozens of targets in the Gaza Strip since Thursday, “killing terrorists, destroying weapons, terrorist infrastructure and underground infrastructure.”

It is added that during the military operations, two rocket-propelled grenades were fired at Israeli troops, resulting in three soldiers receiving minor injuries.

Of the 251 hostages taken during the Hamas attack in October 2023, 57 remain in Gaza, 34 of whom are presumed dead, according to the Israeli army. –0–

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

NEW YORK, May 31 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that he plans to double tariffs on imported steel and aluminum to 50 percent to further protect domestic industries from foreign competition.

    D. Trump made the announcement during a visit to the US Steel plant in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, where the US Steel deal with Japan’s Nippon Steel worth $14 billion was also announced.

“We are going to raise tariffs by 25 percent. We will raise tariffs on steel imports to the United States of America from 25 to 50 percent,” local media quotes D. Trump as saying. “/This/ will further protect the US steel industry.”

The US president later confirmed the decision in a post on the Truth Social social network, stating that the new tariffs would go into effect on June 4.

On March 12, the Trump administration imposed 25 percent tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, drawing sharp criticism from the U.S. auto industry. Canada immediately retaliated, and the European Union announced counter-tariffs but ultimately dropped them.

As local media note, the increase in tariffs could lead to an increase in prices for metal products, including cars, canned goods and industrial equipment. –0–

High range speeding on Bass Highway

    Saturday, 31 May 2025 – 4:29 pm.

An 18-year-old P1 driver from Lutana has had their vehicle clamped and will face a fine and disqualification after they were detected driving at high-speed this morning and tested positive to a roadside drug test.
Just before 11:30am, whilst police were conducting a high visibility road safety operation along the Bass Highway, they detected a red Holden Commodore travelling at excessive high speed along the highway at Westbury. The vehicle was detected at 164km/h in a 110km/h zone, and the driver was safely intercepted by police.
The driver was an 18-year-old man from Lutana with a P1 driver licence which restricts him to maximum speed of 100km/h. Subsequently the driver was travelling at 64km/h over the speed limit, and they returned a positive roadside drug test.
The driver has been fined $1161.50 and six demerit points for the excessive speed, and their vehicle will be clamped for 28 days. Being a provisional driver who normally only hold 4 demerit points, the driver will be subject to a further period of disqualification.
“Speeding and drug driving are both part of the ‘Fatal 5’ causes for fatal and serious crashes, but in this example when you combined both, the consequences could have been disastrous,” said Sergeant Benjamin Kromkamp.
“Had police not been actively patrolling this area, the high-speed driving could have easily resulted in another serious or fatal crash on our roads.”
“Tasmania Police will continue to hold unsafe drivers to account including the seizure of vehicles and disqualification of licenses.”
“Remember that police can be anywhere, anytime, so slow down and get to your destination safely. It’s about your safety and the safety of everyone else.”

  • IPL 2025 Playoffs: Mumbai survive Sudharsan scare, enter Qualifier 2

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

Powerhouse Mumbai Indians kept alive their hopes of reaching the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with a 20-run victory against Gujarat Titans in the eliminator of the 10-team league on Friday.

Electing to bat, Mumbai racked up a commanding 228-5 after their frontline batters hit a combined 17 sixes.

Gujarat managed 208-6 in reply despite defiant knocks by opener Sai Sudharshan (80) and all-rounder Washington Sundar (48).

Five-time champions Mumbai will play Punjab Kings on Sunday for a place in Tuesday’s final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

After Mumbai skipper Hardik Pandya elected to bat, Jonny Bairstow, replacing Ryan Rickelton, smashed 47 off 22 balls in his first match of the season in a blistering opening stand of 84 with Rohit Sharma.

Rohit, dropped twice early in his knock, struck 81 to punish Gujarat.

Suryakumar Yadav (33), Tilak Varma (25) and Pandya (22 not out) produced whirlwind cameos to take Mumbai past the 200-mark.

The chase was steep and Gujarat stuttered early in their reply losing skipper Shubman Gill trapped lbw by Trent Boult in the opening over of the innings.

Kusal Mendis (20) fell hit wicket but Sudharsan, the tournament’s leading scorer, revived Gujarat’s chase with his sixth fifty of the tournament.

He found an able ally in Sundar who smashed Boult for back-to-back sixes to turn the pressure back on Mumbai.

Pandya brought back Jasprit Bumrah and the pace bowler slipped in a yorker between Sundar’s legs to flatten his leg stump.

South African Richard Gleeson bowled Sudharsan as Mumbai reclaimed control of the contest through their seamers.

  • MIL-OSI Africa: Land degradation neutrality- a pathway to sustainable futures for vulnerable communities

    Source: South Africa News Agency

    By Bernice Swarts

As the world battles escalating environmental challenges, from climate change to biodiversity loss, one crisis continues to be overshadowed – that is land degradation. Every year, over 100 million hectares of productive land are lost or degraded, affecting the lives of more than 1.3 billion people globally.

In regions already grappling with poverty, hunger, and unemployment, this environmental degradation becomes a multiplier of vulnerability.

The recent Global Land Degradation Neutrality – Integrated Land Use Planning (LDN–ILUP) Inception Workshop that took place in Sandton, South Africa marked a critical turning point in the global fight against Desertification, Land Degradation, and Drought (DLDD). For four days, experts, government representatives, and development partners from 18 participating countries gathered to refine targets and develop strategies aimed at restoring our planet’s productive land. This meeting was not just another technical gathering – it was a platform of hope for millions whose lives and livelihoods depend on healthy land.

At the heart of this initiative is the principle of Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN), a concept rooted in sustainability and inclusivity. It recognises that land restoration cannot succeed without the active participation of people at the grassroots level. These are the farmers, herders, and communities whose daily decisions directly influence land and water resources. Empowering them to implement sustainable practices remains vital.

Bringing the issue of land degradation home to our country, it must be noted that South Africa, is currently presiding over the G20 under the theme: “Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability.”  Our country will use its presidency of the G20 to place the issues of DLDD at the heart of G20 member states and tackle degradation in the country. Our argument is that the G20 – representing the world’s largest economies – must lead by example in addressing land degradation as an integral part of climate and development discourse.

The G20 Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group (ECSWG) – which is led by our department – will focus on DLDD, along with other critical areas such as biodiversity, climate change, and ocean health. But while global policy alignment is essential, real progress lies in concrete actions on the ground—large-scale restoration projects, transboundary collaboration, and integration of Sustainable Land Management (SLM) into national development plans.

To this end, existing initiatives such as the Changwon Initiative, African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative (AFR100), the Great Green Wall, and the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration must be harnessed and scaled up. These programmes provide tested frameworks for land restoration and resilience building.

However, none of these ambitions will materialise without adequate and sustained financial support. Development and financial partners must step up their efforts. While we acknowledge the critical support provided by entities like the Global Mechanism of the UNCCD, Global Environment Facility, and development partners from Canada and Germany, there remains a significant financing gap. Innovation in resource mobilisation is urgently needed, whether through blended finance, public-private partnerships, or carbon markets. South Africa will therefore call on the developed nations under the G20 to provide more financial support to developed countries to tackle land degradation.

It must also be noted that we cannot continue to formulate frameworks and strategies without addressing the daily realities faced by vulnerable communities. If we are serious about achieving the targets of the UNCCD, Convention on Biological Diversity, and the Paris Agreement, financial commitments must match the scale of ambition.

I must commend all dignitaries from all over the world who attended the workshop. I want to reiterate that the workshop should not be seen as a standalone event. It must be viewed as a launchpad for action—an opportunity to demonstrate that LDN is not merely a technical term, but a vehicle for change, resilience, and hope. As global citizens, we owe it to future generations to restore the land they will inherit.

Let this be the moment we stop talking and start restoring.

  • MIL-OSI Africa: Cape Town commuters to benefit from Chris Hani to Cape Town line

    Source: South Africa News Agency

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) has officially re-opened the Chris Hani to Cape Town leg of the Central Line to commuters, bringing this very important rail artery to near-total recovery.

“The Central Line is Cape Town’s most important rail corridor. It connects the communities of Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain to the Cape Town CBD and the Bellville CBD [central business district].  At full capacity, the central line contributes 350 000 daily passenger trips of Cape Town’s 685 900 daily passenger trips,” Minister of Transport Barbara Creecy said on Thursday.

She was addressing the launch of the Chris Hani- Cape Town line, which is part of the Presidential Rail Project, aimed at revamping and improving rail infrastructure in South Africa.

WATCH | Minister Creecy Launches Chris Hani to Cape Town Passenger Rail Line

The line was opened after extensive repair works on stations, substations, Overhead Traction Electrification (OHTE) systems and more.

“A fully recovered central line has the potential to return a considerable number of commuters to rail, thereby easing the city’s unbearable traffic congestion. The numbers speak for themselves: nearly 700 000 daily passenger trips equate to a substantial number of cars that are taken off Cape Town’s Road network.

“Given the capacity of a full 12-car Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train to transport some 2400 passengers, the gains in affordable, safe and efficient public transport are considerable.

“The recovery of the Central Line provides residents of Cape Town a safer commuter experience, shorter travel times and a more integrated mobility environment. Due to its affordability, and the greater mobility that it enables, passenger rail has the potential to provide the working class with greater economic opportunities,” Creecy explained.

The Central Line is a significant part of PRASA’s rail service in the Western Cape and following a halt in services as a result of theft, vandalism and the occupation of the perways along various parts of the route, the return of the Chris Hani station and service is a reflection of the synergy and collaboration between various tiers of government, law enforcement agencies as well as communities.

“The recovery of the Central Line has not been easy—illegal occupation, vandalism of infrastructure, and a grim security environment all stood in the way. But what we have experienced today on the train ride from Chris Hani Station to Cape Town Station is a safe, reliable, and modern rail corridor that once again connects our people to opportunities, to work and to education,” she said.

    Impact

The Minister shared the impact of recovering parts of the Central Line using numbers.

“Cape Town had 53,000 daily passenger trips in April 2024. With the reopening of Philippi and Nolungile stations, this number rose to 104,000. With the targeted July – December 2025 completion of Kapteinsklip’s second line, the number of daily trips is expected to reach 162,400. By April 2026, the number of trips is expected to climb to 342,951 per day.

“This will signal the move towards an optimal service, characterised by improved frequencies, recovered signalling, higher train speeds and enhanced connectivity. This all bodes well for the commuter community, both for peak and off-peak travel,” Creecy said.

The target for 2026-2027 is the delivery of an optimally operating service — fully recovered signalling, 90km/h speeds, digital environment and compliance with every aspect of the regulator’s safety standards.

“The entire process of recovering the central line corridor – replacing and repairing overhead signalling equipment and substations, refurbishing stations and perway, and relocating those occupying the tracks – has so far cost R 1.3 billion.

“During the recovery of the central line over 2,500 direct jobs have been created and 53 Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) empowered, contributing to local economic upliftment,” the Minister said.

    PRASA recovery project

PRASA has successfully revived 35 out of 40 service lines as part of restoring passenger rail services nationwide.
“At present there are two trains departing Chris Hani Station per hour on the central line, however as we increase our signalling capacity, we hope to run an optimal service where we have six trains per hour.

“In Cape Town the southern line is 98% re-signalled. The focus has now shifted to fully restoring signalling on the central line, with completion scheduled for the end of the 2026/2027 financial year. This will increase service frequency and allow a more regular, punctual passenger service,” the Minister said.

The reopening of these lines has led to a significant increase in passenger trips nationwide, reaching 77 million over the past year.
This figure is projected to reach 123 million in the current year, indicating a clear trajectory towards the goal of 600 million passenger trips by 2030/31. –SAnews.gov.za

    Friday, May 30, 2025

The main suspect in the murder of Olorato Mongale has been shot and killed by police in KwaZulu-Natal.

Philangenkosi Makhanya was found by the police in Amanzimtoti, south of Durban and when approached, he shot at the police who then returned fire killing him.

At the time of the shooting, Makhanya was hiding out at a flat in Amanzimtoti.

He is believed to be the main suspect in the Mongale case, following her killing. Her body was found dumped on the side of the road in Lombardy West, Johannesburg last week.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Athlenda Mathe, the suspect’s parents were arrested.

“His mother was arrested for tipping him that the police were looking for him while his father was arrested as it was established that he is the owner of the white VW Polo used in the commission of crime,” Mathe said.

A multidisciplinary team led by the SAPS’ anti-kidnapping task team seized the vehicle at a panel beater workshop in Phoenix, Durban.

The mother’s actions allowed their son to evade arrest on Wednesday evening.

The police are still searching for two additional suspects linked to the case.

Mongale was last seen on Sunday when she went on a date with her alleged killer, who picked her up from her residential complex in Athol, Johannesburg, driving a white VW Polo with a cloned number plate that belonged to a Toyota Hilux.

  • MIL-OSI Africa: Postbank warns grant beneficiaries of card fraud scams

    Source: South Africa News Agency

    Friday, May 30, 2025

South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) grant beneficiaries using the black Postbank cards as well as the gold SASSA cards have been urged to be wary of rising fraud scams targeting their cards and PIN information.

In a statement on Friday, Postbank said a recent scam involves fraudsters impersonating Postbank officials and targeting social beneficiaries in their homes.

“The beneficiaries are then duped into handing over their Postbank grant cards and PIN information under the pretext that there is something that requires fixing on the cards; or fear is instilled in them that they will not receive their future grant payments if they don’t handover their cards PIN information.

“Postbank assures social grant beneficiaries that there is nothing that requires fixing on any of its black cards and SASSA gold cards, and that both cards will continue to work beyond 31 May 2025 for the payments of their grants,” Postbank said.

Beneficiaries must be wary of fraudsters who may pretend that they are from Postbank, even if they are wearing what may appear to be Postbank uniforms or branded cars.

Here is how they can be spotted:

    • They show up unannounced or without an appointment.
    • They ask you for your card PIN number.

If fraudsters pretending to be from Postbank visit your home:

    • Quietly alert your neighbours and the community.
    • Alert the police.
    • Report the incident to Postbank on 0800 53 54 55.

    Protect you card PIN numbers:

    • Never give anyone your card PIN number, even to a Postbank official.
    • Postbank will never ask you for your card PIN as that is against banking
rules. Your card PIN is your personal possession.
    • Memorise your PIN and don’t write it on a piece of paper (If you must
write your PIN, ensure that the paper on which you write it is not kept in
the same place as your card).

Postbank will not visit beneficiaries’ homes unless invited.

    • Postbank will never visit your home unless you have requested that
through the necessary home visits channels.
    • Beneficiaries must always remember that their cards and PINs are their
personal keys to their money. They should never give them to anyone.

“Beneficiaries are also reminded that they should not listen to anyone that tells them to change their SASSA gold cards or Postbank black cards to other banks payment methods, even if they are advised to do so by government officials.

“Postbank is committed to protecting its social grant customers while offering them safe, secure and convenient ways of accessing their social grant payments,” Postbank said.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Stauber to Attend President Trump’s Rally in Pittsburgh Celebrating U.S. Steel-Nippon Partnership

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08)

PITTSBURGH, PA – Today, Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) will join President Donald Trump, Members of Congress from the Pennsylvania delegation, and local steelworkers at the U.S. Steel Irvin Works Plant in Pittsburgh to celebrate the new and historic partnership between U.S. Steel and Nippon Steel.

Of this partnership, Congressman Stauber stated, “The partnership between U.S. Steel and Nippon Steel will revive America’s steel industry, and the benefits will be felt right here in Northern Minnesota. This deal will inject $14 billion in new, capital investments, including an estimated $800 million for U.S. Steel’s Iron Range taconite mining operations. This significant investment will create jobs and strengthen our region’s proud iron mining legacy for generations to come. I thank the President for his decisive leadership on the matter, and for making American Steel Great Again.”

    BACKGROUND:

Without this partnership, U.S. Steel faced an uncertain future. This iconic American company was in jeopardy of being split up, thousands of jobs would have been lost, and China would have been enabled to attempt its dominance in global steelmaking.

Instead, this historic partnership will save jobs and strengthen American steel production, improving the domestic steel supply chain for vital products such as cars, appliances, ships, pipelines, and more. Northern Minnesota will greatly benefit from the partnership, as the iron ore and taconite mined on the Iron Range is used to make approximately 80% of the country’s domestically produced steel.

Under this partnership, U.S. Steel will remain headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania under American control:

    • U.S. Steel will maintain its production locations and capacity in the United States. American jobs are protected and cannot be offshored.
    • A majority of U.S. Steel’s Board of Directors must be American citizens.
    • U.S. Steel’s key management team, including the CEO, will all be American citizens.
    • U.S. Steel’s trade actions will continue to be determined solely by American citizens, with oversight from the U.S. government.
    • U.S. Steel will honor existing labor commitments with the United Steelworkers (USW).

  • MIL-OSI Asia-Pac: Substantial reduction of tolls and implementation of HKeToll mostly smooth at Tai Lam Tunnel (with photos)

Source: Hong Kong Government special administrative region

Substantial reduction of tolls and implementation of HKeToll mostly smooth at Tai Lam Tunnel
The Commissioner for Transport, Ms Angela Lee, visited the TLT Administration Building in the small hours today and was briefed by the operator’s management on the switchover works conducted during its full closure. She also oversaw the tests and preparations prior to the introduction of the HKeToll at the control centre. She met with tunnel management and engineering personnel of the operator and thanked the team for racing against time in completing the takeover work thoroughly, efficiently and smoothly.

Ms Lee was glad to note that the TLT reopened at 5am as scheduled with the launch of the HKeToll. She appreciated the tireless efforts of the multidisciplinary team comprising the TD, the Highways Department and the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department in completing the necessary drills as well as installing adequate traffic signs and road markings, providing motorists with a smoother road experience as they do not have to stop or queue for payment.

The TD’s Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre (ETCC) has been closely monitoring the traffic conditions before and after the takeover of the TLT, and the traffic in both directions has generally been smooth so far. In addition, the traffic of alternative routes, such as Tuen Mun Road and Tolo Highway, has largely been smooth. The ETCC will closely monitor the overall traffic conditions on June 2, the first working day, including the application of time-varying tolls on private cars and motorcycles at the TLT for the first time.

Under the new tolls, tolls for all vehicle types are lower than previous tolls by 22 to 80 per cent. Among them, tolls for private cars in the peak, normal and off-peak time slots from Monday to Saturday are $45, $30 and $18 respectively, with a fixed toll of $18 throughout the day for Sunday and general holidays. The motorcycle toll for all time slots is set at 40 per cent of the private car toll, i.e. between $7.2 and $18. Taxis and other commercial vehicles (such as goods vehicles and buses) continue to have a fixed toll on all days: $28 for taxis and $43 for other commercial vehicles.

Ms Lee said, “As motorists, transport trades and members of the public may take time to adapt to new routes and adjust their commuting habits, we will closely monitor the traffic flow and public transport services in the vicinity of the TLT. Following the substantial reduction of tolls and the roll-out of the HKeToll, we hope to make optimal use of the TLT’s spare capacity effectively to alleviate the busy traffic on alternative routes, such as Tuen Mun Road, thereby improving the flow of people and freight between the New Territories West/North and the urban areas, as well as achieving the objective of providing a smooth commute and bringing benefits to all sectors.”

Motorists may refer to the TLT’s toll displays or the TD’s HKeMobility mobile application for real-time toll information. Those who have yet to apply for an HKeToll vehicle tag and account should do so as soon as possible.

  • MIL-OSI USA: May 30th, 2025 Heinrich Invites U.S. Forest Service Chief to Pecos Watershed

    US Senate News:

Source: United States Senator for New Mexico Martin Heinrich
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Ranking Member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, sent a letter inviting U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz to visit the Upper Pecos Watershed in Northern New Mexico and hear from local leaders, Tribes, community members, farmers, business owners, and recreationists about the importance of protecting the Upper Pecos Watershed from new mining operations.
“For decades, the community in the Upper Pecos Watershed of New Mexico has been united in an effort to protect the river basin from the very real threat of mine waste pollution. Everyone in the community can agree that the Pecos River is an invaluable lifeline. With headwaters in Northern New Mexico, the Pecos supports a wide range of uses from recreation and agriculture to traditional use by the Pueblos in the area. Unfortunately, this region has a history of poorly managed mining projects,”Heinrich wrote to U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz.
“The area is still recovering from a devastating 1991 mine spill, which threatened the health and economic survival in the immediate community and for hundreds of miles throughout the state. Thanks to decades of hard work and millions of dollars, this watershed is once again one of the cleanest and most productive in the state – though the remediation is not complete,” Heinrich stated.
In 1991, a toxic waste spill from a closed mine in the Upper Pecos Watershed caused more than 11 miles of fish kill in the river and required a clean up effort that took decades and millions of dollars to complete. For years, there has been a community-led effort to protect the area from future mining claims to avoid similar threats and pollution.
In response to a letter sent by Heinrich and the N.M. Congressional Delegation, in December 2024, President Biden’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Forest Service initiated a process to propose a 20-year withdrawal to help secure the region’s water and air quality, cultural resources, critical fish and wildlife habitat, and recreational opportunities. The withdrawal, for lands in San Miguel and Santa Fe counties, encompassed multiple Pecos River tributaries, including Dalton Canyon, Macho Canyon, Wild Horse Creek, Indian Creek, and Doctor Creek.
On December 16, 2024, the BLM and Forest Service initiated a 90-day public comment period to gather input on the proposal. During the comment period, the two agencies were scheduled to host a public meeting for the proposed Upper Pecos River Watershed Protection Area withdrawal on February 26, 2025. This public meeting was cancelled by the Trump Administration on February 19, 2025, with no further explanation. Despite the cancellation, the Administration received hundreds of public comments in support of the mineral withdrawal.
On April 7, 2025, reporting from Source New Mexico revealed the Trump Administration plans to reverse the BLM and the Forest Service’s decision to protect the Upper Pecos Watershed from new mining operations.
“I am concerned by the Forest Service’s decision to reverse the temporary protection and discontinue the process for a longer-term withdrawal. This decision was made without proper community engagement or review of the hundreds of positive comments that were submitted during the public comment period,” Heinrich continued in his letter to Chief Schultz.
In response to the Trump Administration’s reversal, Heinrich reintroduced his Pecos Watershed Protection Act to permanently withdraw all federally managed minerals in the watershed from development — preventing the leasing, patent, or sale of all publicly owned minerals.
To continue the effort to protect the Pecos, Heinrich invited Chief Schultz at the end of his letter, writing, “I would like to extend an invitation to you to visit New Mexico and the Pecos area so you can hear firsthand from local leaders, Tribes, community members, farmers, business owners, recreationists, and others while experiencing the beauty of this watershed. While there, you can see why this river is so valuable and witness the very real threat of mining pollution that still exists.”
At the end of his letter, Heinrich included invitations to Chief Schultz from local and Tribal leaders that show the widespread community support for permanently protecting the Pecos.
Read the community letter from over 20 local leaders and members of the Hispanic Conservation Leadership Council here.
Read the invitation from the Pueblo of Jemez here.
Read the invitation from the Pueblo of Tesuque here.
Read Heinrich’s full letter here and below:
    Dear Chief Schultz:
For decades, the community in the Upper Pecos Watershed of New Mexico has been united in an effort to protect the river basin from the very real threat of mine waste pollution. Everyone in the community can agree that the Pecos River is an invaluable lifeline. With headwaters in Northern New Mexico, the Pecos supports a wide range of uses from recreation and agriculture to traditional use by the Pueblos in the area. Unfortunately, this region has a history of poorly managed mining projects. The area is still recovering from a devastating 1991 mine spill, which threatened the health and economic survival in the immediate community and for hundreds of miles throughout the state. Thanks to decades of hard work and millions of dollars, this watershed is once again one of the cleanest and most productive in the state – though the remediation is not complete.
To New Mexicans who are facing a threat to their way of life and cultural heritage, there is no doubt that this area should be permanently protected. The spill in 1991 left scars on the landscape and with those who depend on the river. We celebrated when the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management announced last year that they would be pursuing a 20-year mineral withdrawal in the basin. The long-overdue action by the last Administration was a major victory for the Pecos Valley.
However, I am concerned by the Forest Service’s decision to reverse the temporary protection and discontinue the process for a longer-term withdrawal. This decision was made without proper community engagement or review of the hundreds of positive comments that were submitted during the public comment period. The Administration also cancelled a public forum that would have allowed for discussion of the administrative withdrawal and demonstrated to your agency that this community is united by the beauty and health of the Pecos River.
Therefore, I would like to extend an invitation to you to visit New Mexico and the Pecos area so you can hear firsthand from local leaders, Tribes, community members, farmers, business owners, recreationists, and others while experiencing the beauty of this watershed. While there, you can see why this river is so valuable and witness the very real threat of mining pollution that still exists.
I am including letters and invites from local and tribal leaders that show the widespread support for this effort in the area. They represent just a few of many examples of community support for protecting the Pecos. Thank you for your attention to this request and I hope I can see you in New Mexico soon.
    Sincerely,

  • MIL-OSI New Zealand: Operation Purple – anti-social road user gathering in Levin

    Source: New Zealand Police

Attributable to Inspector Ash Gurney, Manawatū  Area Prevention Manager:

Ten people were arrested during a large anti-social road user event in the Levin and Palmerston North areas overnight, which saw five members of the public and two Police officers injured.

Police were out on the streets overnight with plans in place to keep the gathering in check, including air support from the Police Eagle helicopter, however faced physical attacks on the ground from those present.

A crowd of around 1000 people gathered in Levin late last night, many performing burnouts and other driving offences.

Fireworks, physical aggression, and a vehicle were all used against Police who were attempting to break up the gathering. Two Police officers received minor injuries from the fireworks that did not require hospitalisation.

Five people were arrested at this location and will face Levin District Court in coming days, on disorderly behaviour and driving charges.

The large group then moved to the State Highway 57/Tavistock Road intersection, where Police were again confronted with more unruly behaviour, including a number of burnouts.

A pedestrian bystander was hit by a car doing a burnout. People and vehicles blocking the roads delayed an ambulance getting to this person, forcing Police to employ tactical options – including deploying sponge rounds to disperse the crowd- to allow it through.

During this period, several Police vehicle were damaged and had tyres slashed.

Police moved this crowd on, which then moved to the intersection of State Highway 56 and Tiakitahuna Road.

Further burnouts and unsafe driving took place, and four bystanders – aged 16-20 years old – were hit by cars. One female had both of her legs run over. The group were taken to Palmerston North Hospital for treatment for their injuries.

The Police Eagle helicopter assisted staff on the ground in tracking one of the drivers who hit the bystanders. The 18-year-old man was taken into custody after a lengthy foot pursuit by officers, and he is due in Levin District Court on Tuesday on a range of serious charges.

Diesel was poured on an intersection in Palmerston North city where the group set up again around 2am – numbers were estimated at around 200 by this stage. The crowd dispersed shortly after the diesel was set alight.

Several other instances of single vehicles seen doing skids and burnouts in the Levin area were identified by officers over the next hour or so, with the Police Eagle helicopter proving invaluable in giving officers on the ground relevant information.

“The escalation in the level of violence committed against officers at these events is incredibly reckless and will not be tolerated,” Inspector Gurney says.

“The fact that members of the public were injured should send a strong warning to people intending to take part or observe – this is dangerous and stupid behaviour which can very easily result in multiple serious injuries or even death.

“On this occasion, given the size and unruly nature of the crowds involved, it is fortunate no other people were seriously hurt or worse, and that no Police officers were seriously injured,” Inspector Gurney says.

Police intend to hold everyone identified as having committed an offence to account, with the Eagle helicopter proving vital in helping gather relevant information to help us follow up.

Officers will have staff deployed from Central District and from Wellington ready to respond to any potential further activity this weekend.

Denis Manturov, as part of a working visit to Tatarstan, took part in the launch ceremony of the new generation Sollers SF5 light commercial vehicle production

First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, as part of a working visit to Tatarstan, together with the head of the republic Rustam Minnikhanov, took part in the ceremony of launching the production of the new generation Sollers SF5 light commercial vehicles. In addition, Denis Manturov, via videoconference at the plant site, handed over a Sollers Atlant bus to a large family from Ingushetia, with whom Russian President Vladimir Putin had spoken the day before.

Sollers SF5 is the first Russian car of its class, serially equipped with an automatic transmission. It is produced using full-cycle technology, equipped with a fully localized diesel engine with a volume of 2.7 liters and a power of 150 hp, corresponding to the environmental standard “Euro-5”. Already at the stage of launching production, components of Russian manufacture are installed on Sollers SF5. It is planned that by the end of this year the level of localization of the new model will be 70%.

“Sollers is taking a responsible approach to fulfilling its obligations, which were included in the special investment contract at the initial stage, and is gradually developing a new product range. Not long ago, last year, we launched the production of tourist buses in the Far East, before that – the previous generation of the Atlanta. I am confident that Sollers, both at other sites and in Alabuga, will confidently expand its product range, model range, increase the level of localization, and also provide work for other enterprises in the automotive component industry. In recent years, the automotive component industry has received a new lease of life in the development of the production of units and components. And Sollers is actively contributing to this, providing workload and orders to a wide range of Russian companies in this sector,” the First Deputy Prime Minister noted.

“For 20 years, Sollers has been a strategic partner of Tatarstan. Today, the company continues to increase its market share, engage in localization and launch new products. Today, we are meeting another model. We sincerely thank the Government of Russia for supporting our car manufacturers and assisting in the implementation of promising investment projects. Stable operation of enterprises is the key to guaranteed good wages and decent working conditions,” said Rustam Minnikhanov.

Denis Manturov handed over a 16-seat Sollers Atlant bus to a large family from Ingushetia via videoconference. Earlier, the family of Beslan Ruslanbekovich Bogolov and Maryam Khazhbikarovna Khamkhoeva, who are raising 11 children, asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to assist in purchasing comfortable transport for family trips. The President said that assistance would be provided, and today this informal order was fulfilled.

Denis Manturov congratulated Maryam Khazhbikarovna on being awarded the title of “Mother Heroine”: “Even raising one child is a huge responsibility and noble work. And you have 10 boys and a girl, so raising them on their feet is definitely not an easy task. You are doing it – and this is truly a parental feat worthy of the deepest respect. The state has a special place for such families. Our President directs all authorities to prioritize support for those whose home is full of love, care and children’s voices.”

As the First Deputy Prime Minister emphasized, the family will receive new transport within a week. “I hope that with its help you will show the children the beauty of the Caucasus. And it will be easier to solve everyday issues,” Denis Manturov added.
