Source: Hong Kong Government special administrative region

Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency leads industry delegation to participate in Annecy International Animation Film Festival and Market 2025 in FranceIssued at HKT 16:40

The Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau led an industry delegation to participate in the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and Market 2025 in France and joined forces with the Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association (HKDEA) to set up the Hong Kong Pavilion themed “AI-assisted Animation Production” and organised a series of activities, with the aim of increasing overseas exposure of Hong Kong original animation works and creative teams, enhancing their reach in market development, and enabling them to explore collaboration opportunities.

As the international animation film festival with a rich history and the largest scale of its kind, the Annecy International Animation Film Festival commands high respect from the global animation industry. Its film market, the Annecy International Animation Film Market, is a prominent annual business-oriented exhibition that takes place from June 10 to 13 (Annecy time). In the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong Pavilion held on June 10, the Assistant Commissioner for Cultural and Creative Industries, Mrs Lowell Cho, expressed hope that through a series of activities during this promotion, the CCIDA and the industry join hands to promote Hong Kong animation works to the animation industry professionals and audiences from all over the world, hence enabling the original animation by Hong Kong to shine bright on the international stage and to strive for opportunities to strengthen ties with global industry counterparts. She also warmly congratulated the film “Another World”, funded by the Film Development Fund (FDF) and produced by an animation creative team from Hong Kong, for being selected for the non-competitive section of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2025 and that it will be screened at the “Midnight Specials” session on the evening of June 13 (Annecy time). “Another World” brings international recognition, which serves as a significant booster for the Hong Kong animation industry, showcasing the global appreciation for Hong Kong animation.

The Hong Kong animation film “Another World” is directed by Tommy Ng, and produced and scripted by Polly Yeung. The production team attended the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in person to engage with audiences and industry counterparts. In 2019, the team participated in the sixth Animation Support Program, a project funded by the CCIDA through the CreateSmart Initiative (CSI), and was granted a subsidy to initiate the production of the short version of “Another World”, which won the Gold Award under the Small Animation Enterprises (Advanced Production) category. Subsequently, the team, with its proposal to develop “Another World” into a feature-length animation film, successfully applied for the Film Production Financing Scheme under the FDF and was granted the subsidy to bring the debut animation feature film directed by Ng into fruition, paving the way for the film’s global premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Yeung was also invited by the Hong Kong Film Development Council to participate in the 81st Venice International Film Festival in Italy and the 78th Cannes Film Festival in France to seek production investment, attend various producer matching activities, and exchange ideas with filmmakers from all over the world, increasing publicity for “Another World” and opening doors for overseas distribution of the film project.

During the exhibition period, a series of networking and exchange activities were launched at the Hong Kong Pavilion, and six short original animated works created with AI assistance were also showcased, demonstrating to the international market the creativity and unique charisma of Hong Kong productions. The Hong Kong Partner Pitches was held on June 11, where the six Hong Kong companies selected under the 2nd Future Animation – AI-assisted Animation Production Support Scheme organised by the HKDEA and sponsored by the CCIDA, namely 924 Studio Limited, Astro Heart Limited, Free-D Workshop, ManyMany Creations Ltd, Morph Workshop and Stepc, conducted exchanges with elite animation companies from all over the world. They took the opportunity to broaden their horizons, enhance their promotion to overseas practitioners and investors, and pursue more collaboration possibilities.

The Animation Support Program, a government-funded project under the CSI, is now in its 12th edition. It focuses on supporting local start-ups and small animation companies and cultivating local animation talent. Over the years, it has assisted more than 250 local animation companies and enabled them to produce more than 270 original animation works. As a scheme under the FDF with the longest history and well-received by the film industry, the Film Production Financing Scheme aims to provide government financing for film productions with small-to-medium production budgets. As of the end of May 2025, approved films have received more than 150 local and international film awards.

  • MIL-OSI: The Eclipse Foundation Launches the S-CORE Project: The Automotive Industry’s First Open Source Core Stack for Software-Defined Vehicles

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

BRUSSELS, June 12, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Eclipse Foundation, one of the world’s largest open source software foundations, today announced the upcoming 0.5 release of the Safety Open Vehicle Core (S-CORE) project, the first open source core software stack specifically designed for Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs). Targeting embedded high-performance Electronic Control Units (ECUs), S-CORE represents a significant milestone in the automotive industry’s transition toward open, community-driven software platforms.

With support from a growing group of major industry leaders, including BMW Group, Mercedes-Benz, Bosch, ETAS, QNX, Qorix, and Accenture, the S-CORE project is building an open source foundation that allows automakers and suppliers to accelerate the development of next-generation automotive software, while allowing them to concentrate on building their own differentiated features and applications.

“Open collaboration is key to managing complexity in modern vehicle software architectures,” said Mike Milinkovich, executive director of the Eclipse Foundation. “With S-CORE, we’re providing developers with a reliable, safety-grade runtime environment that allows the industry to focus on innovation while reducing duplication of effort. This project offers the entire sector a jumpstart in building the custom solutions that will define the future of mobility.”

Often described as “middleware,” S-CORE sits between the operating system and application layer, delivering core, non-differentiating services that all software-defined vehicles require. By providing a common set of baseline functions, such as application orchestration, inter-process communication (IPC), logging, and data persistence, S-CORE aims to streamline development, lower costs, and accelerate time-to-market for companies building software-defined vehicles.

The 0.5 release, targeted for availability in October 2025, will mark the project’s first public milestone, providing an initial set of functional building blocks for industry adoption and feedback. The reference platform for this release will run on QNX SDP 8.0, which is available for non-commercial prototyping and experimentation via the company’s recently launched QNX Everywhere program. Additional operating system support, including Linux, is planned for future releases.

In parallel, the S-CORE development process, currently under audit by a certification agency, aims to define a methodology for producing open source software suitable for safety-critical automotive standards such as ISO 26262.

As software increasingly defines vehicle functionality, S-CORE’s open approach helps address one of the automotive industry’s most pressing challenges: developing complex, high-performance vehicle software that is safe, cost-effective, and scalable, while still allowing room for innovation. By enabling automakers, suppliers, and technology companies to collaborate on shared core components, S-CORE allows development teams to focus their efforts on areas that create the most value, such as differentiated features, enhanced customer experiences, and brand-defining innovations.

  • MIL-OSI: Radware Cyber Survey Uncovers Critical Weaknesses in Application Security Measures

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

    • Only 8% of organizations use AI-based protection solutions
    • Just 6% of respondents have full documentation for all their APIs
    • Half of respondents don’t know what third-party code is being used by their apps
    • Only 29% of security staff are fully trained to handle API business logic attacks

MAHWAH, N.J., June 12, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Radware® (NASDAQ: RDWR), a global leader in application security and delivery solutions for multi-cloud environments, today released its new report, 2025 Cyber Survey: Application Security at a Breaking Point. The survey reveals threat areas of rapidly growing concern as organizations’ cyber defenses lag well behind. This includes a major lack of protection against AI threats, as well as API and business logic attacks, among others.

“The weaponization of AI by malicious actors is intensifying cybersecurity threats and drawing even more attention to areas where companies are simply ill-protected,” said Shira Sagiv, Radware’s vice president of product portfolio. “Internal alarms should be sounding. Companies openly admit to major concerns about gaps in cyber protection and lack of readiness, especially around web applications and APIs; yet their usage continues to climb creating even more risk and exposure.”

    KEY FINDINGS

The scramble is on to catch up with AI
According to the report, the use of AI to improve and intensify hacking tradecraft is of greatest concern. Organizations have significant concerns about threat actors using AI to generate new attacks at a faster cadence, bypassing existing defenses and compromising areas that were previously too difficult to attack.

    • Top concerns: The following percentage of respondents are highly or extremely concerned about hackers using AI:
      • To create/improve hacking tools – 70%.
      • To generate a larger volume of cyberattacks – 67%.
      • To launch new zero-day attack vectors – 66%.
    • Large readiness gap: Despite the concerns about hackers embracing AI, only 8% of organizations are currently using AI-based solutions for defenses.
    • AI adoption: Four out of five organizations plan to implement AI-based cybersecurity solutions within the next 12 months.

Security fails to keep up with sprawling API ecosystems
APIs are in a constant state of fluctuation. Organizations are increasing their use of APIs even while they remain ill-protected.

    • Surge in API usage and updates: In 2025, API usage is up 42% compared to the highest rate of usage in 2023, with multiple daily updates to APIs surging 6X during the same time frame.
    • Widespread third-party usage: On average, organizations are using 19 third-party APIs per application, which introduces new types of threats around data compromise that cannot be mitigated at a coding level.
    • Poor business logic attack mitigation: Business logic attacks, a common form of API attacks, represent a threat area of rapidly growing concern. While 81% of respondents say it is very or extremely important to have real-time protection measures in place:
      • Just half have deployed runtime business logic protections.
      • Only 29% have security staff fully trained to detect and mitigate these attacks.
    • Lack of preparedness:
      • On average, only 6% of respondents have full documentation for all their APIs.
      • Half of respondents don’t know what third-party code is being used by their web applications, which data is being leaked to third-party services, and when malicious scripts and services are introduced.

Risks to resilience continue to rise
Survey respondents expressed a lack of confidence in the effectiveness of their defensive posture against growing threats.

    • Third-party breaches: Only 16% of respondents are confident in their current protection against data breach attempts of third-party services code running on their web applications.
    • Costly DDoS disruptions: Downtime caused by an application DDoS attack averages $6,100 per minute or $366,000 per hour.
    • High compliance pressures: An average of 54% of respondents express high or extreme concern about a range of regulations, including NIS2, HIPAA, SEC, PCI DSS 4, GDPR, DORA, and SOX.

    Methodology
The survey, which was conducted with Osterman Research, includes responses from compliance, chief risk, and data privacy officers; vice presidents of research and development; senior network security administrators; senior DevOps and DevSecOps administrators; cloud security; API architects; among other titles. The survey was conducted in nine countries across North America, EMEA, APAC, and LATAM.

  • MIL-OSI Asia-Pac: MOEA’s 2025 Industrial Innovation Joint Awards Ceremony: National Industrial Innovation Award and National Invention and Creation Award Showcase Taiwan’s Excellence in Innovation

    Source: Republic of China Taiwan

The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) held its flagship innovation event of the year today (June 10), featuring the joint award ceremony for the National Industrial Innovation Award and the National Invention and Creation Award. A total of 92 outstanding achievements were recognized, spotlighting Taiwan’s robust capabilities in semiconductors, AI, healthcare, and sustainability. Premier Cho Jung-tai called on award recipients to continue driving innovation forward and contribute lasting momentum to Taiwan’s economic growth. This year’s Distinguished Innovation Award in the Organization Category went to Realtek Semiconductor, Onyx Healthcare, and ITRI’s Biomedical Technology and Device Research Laboratories. Four government agencies were also honored for their contributions to policy innovation and regional industry development. Their achievements exemplify the strong synergy among Taiwan’s industry, government, academia, and research sectors in propelling the nation’s economic future.

In his remarks, Premier Cho highlighted Taiwan’s impressive ranking of 8th among 67 countries in the latest IMD World Competitiveness Ranking. He also noted that Taiwan ranks 3rd globally in both total R&D expenditure and business R&D expenditure as a percentage of GDP. These rankings reflect the deepening commitment from both public and private sectors to investing in research and development-efforts that have earned consistent international recognition. In tandem with promoting the Five Trusted Industry Sectors, relevant ministries and agencies are currently drafting a “Top 10 AI Infrastructure Projects” program aimed at accelerating the next wave of AI development in Taiwan by scaling up industrial applications, integrating AI across various sectors, and facilitating AI adoption in both industry and government, ultimately building the most comprehensive AI supply chain. Meanwhile, this year saw the addition of a Government Agencies category, introduced to encourage government bodies to champion an innovative mindset, foster close collaboration with industry, and deliver tangible benefits for the public. Premier Cho concluded by emphasizing the shared goal of Taiwan’s domestic industry: to maintain our global leadership in semiconductor manufacturing. He urged the industry to adopt a “Taiwan plus” approach that anchors investments in Taiwan while expanding global reach and competitiveness.

Minister of Economic Affairs J.W. Kuo noted that the 9th National Industrial Innovation Award recognized 25 organizations, 8 teams, and 19 individuals from a total of 305 entries-a remarkable display of Taiwan’s innovation prowess. In semiconductors and AI, Realtek Semiconductor leads the global market in Ethernet chipsets and is expanding its core technologies into automotive and smart healthcare applications through diverse products and patents. Kneron, on the other hand, is advancing practical uses of large language models by offering powerful Edge AI computing solutions worldwide. In the healthcare arena, ITRI’s Biomedical Technology and Device Research Laboratories have pioneered a Virtual-Physical Integration Innovation Cross-Domain Platform for Digital Healthcare, energizing Taiwan’s push toward digital innovation. On the net-zero sustainability front, TSMC has built a world-leading zero-waste manufacturing center, cutting carbon emissions by more than 40,000 tons each year in support of a circular green economy. Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp is also contributing to global sustainability through its marine waste recycling technology.

Minister Kuo commended the 40 recipients of the National Invention and Creation Award, selected from 418 entries. With half of the winning entries from enterprises, it underscores the importance of strategic patent deployment in Taiwan’s industrial sector. These innovations span a broad range of fields, including 5G, smart AI healthcare, assistive devices for seniors, agricultural sensing, and smart living applications, all helping to cement Taiwan’s leadership in future-ready patent development.

Beyond celebrating industrial innovation, this year’s award ceremony also embraced social care and human connection. The MOEA specially invited the choir from Baolai Junior High School in Kaohsiung’s Liouguei District to perform, with the hope of inspiring greater support for education in rural communities. Looking to the future, the MOEA reaffirms its role as a guiding force that unites industry, government, academia, and research institutions to forge an even more competitive economic landscape for Taiwan on the global stage.

  • MIL-OSI Europe: Shaping the EU Anti-Fraud landscape: OLAF’s Helsinki Conference gathers specialists from all Member States

    Source: European Anti-Fraud Offfice

    Press release no. 15/2025
    PDF version

More than 100 anti-fraud experts from across the European Union met this week in Finland for the 2025 Helsinki OLAF Conference aimed at defining the next chapter in EU anti-fraud action. Organised by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) on 11-12 June, the event brought together representatives from EU Member States’ Anti-Fraud Coordination Services as well as key EU bodies involved in protecting the Union’s financial interests.

This year’s conference offered a unique platform to discuss policy and operational challenges in fighting fraud and irregularities affecting EU expenditure. Opening speeches were delivered by Ville Itälä, OLAF Director-General, and Riikka Purra, Finland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, highlighting the strategic importance of effective fraud prevention and detection.

A particular highlight of the conference was a discussion on the future of the EU Anti-Fraud Architecture, led by OLAF Deputy Director-General Salla Saastamoinen. The panel brought together senior representatives from OLAF and other Commission services, Europol, and Eurojust to examine how the anti-fraud framework must evolve to tackle increasingly complex and cross-border threats.

Ville Itälä, OLAF Director-General, said: “We gather just before the Commission presents its proposals for the next multi-annual financial framework.  This conference is about building a shared vision for how we protect the EU’s financial interests in an increasingly complex environment. Fraud is evolving, and so must we. Cooperation should be the cornerstone of our response. OLAF plays a unique role at the intersection of policy, investigation and coordination, bringing together institutions and Member States to ensure that EU funds are protected and, if necessary, recovered to the Union budget.”

The conference also featured panel discussions and interactive workshops covering a wide range of topics, from the protection of Cohesion Policy and Recovery and Resilience Facility funds, to the use of Artificial Intelligence in administrative investigations, and exploring the advent of increasingly performance-based EU funding instruments. It addressed emerging risks, such as money laundering linked to EU funding and conflicts of interest in fund management.

By gathering operational and policy-level anti-fraud professionals in person, the 2025 OLAF Conference set out to prepare all EU actors for dealing with an evolving financial framework and new financial instruments being rolled out in a context of ever more complex digital and international fraud challenges.

    OLAF mission, mandate and competences:
OLAF’s mission is to detect, investigate and stop fraud with EU funds.

    OLAF fulfils its mission by:
    •    carrying out independent investigations into fraud and corruption involving EU funds, so as to ensure that all EU taxpayers’ money reaches projects that can create jobs and growth in Europe;
    •    contributing to strengthening citizens’ trust in the EU Institutions by investigating serious misconduct by EU staff and members of the EU Institutions;
    •    developing a sound EU anti-fraud policy.

In its independent investigative function, OLAF can investigate matters relating to fraud, corruption and other offences affecting the EU financial interests concerning:
    •    all EU expenditure: the main spending categories are Structural Funds, agricultural policy and rural development funds, direct expenditure and external aid;
    •    some areas of EU revenue, mainly customs duties;
    •    suspicions of serious misconduct by EU staff and members of the EU institutions.

Once OLAF has completed its investigation, it is for the competent EU and national authorities to examine and decide on the follow-up of OLAF’s recommendations. All persons concerned are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a competent national or EU court of law.

  • 11 years of Digital India: Technology turned into tool to empower the lives of poor

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

Besides the ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ pledge, the goal and vision of achieving ‘Digital India’ is beginning to realise as this forms the core of governance of the incumbent dispensation.

The digital revolution, which began 11 years ago, is entrenched in almost every policy-making and public welfare scheme delivery with elaborate plans on how to bring benefits to the poor, downtrodden and marginalised sections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to the social media platform X on Thursday and wrote about “leveraging the power of technology in bringing innumerable benefits for people”.

“Service delivery and transparency have been greatly boosted. Technology has become a means of empowering the lives of the poorest of the poor,” he further said.

Here is a look at how the Digital India mission unlocked opportunities for millions:

The Digital India initiative, launched by PM Modi in his first term, has gone on to reshape the way the country has grown and developed in the past decade. The governance has become transparent and accessible for every citizen, while it has also unlocked massive opportunities for the common citizen.

Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) marks one of the biggest hallmarks of the Modi government as it ensured seamless and leakage-free delivery of public welfare funds and schemes to crores of poor households. Today, the villages have access to internet services, while the digital payment system is also reaching the rural belts.

    DBT transfers

Today, there are more than 322 schemes across 56 ministries covered under the DBT. More than Rs 44 lakh crore has been transferred directly into the accounts of beneficiaries, while Rs 3.48 lakh crore has been saved by cutting out leakages and preventing middlemen.

In the past ten years, there has been a 90-fold increase in DBT transfers, marking a new era of public welfare delivery, laced with speed and transparency.

Aadhaar: The World’s largest digital ID system

Aadhaar – a unique identity of every citizen is powering the country’s digital identity revolution.

Today, every citizen of the 140-crore population has a unique 12-digit Aadhaar number. Aadhaar authentication transactions have crossed 150 billion mark.

    DigiLocker making India paperless

DigiLocker, an application that facilitates document storage online, has given strong impetus to paperless governance. As per official estimates, there are more than 52 crore registered Digilocker users in the country, with over 852 crore documents issued.

    Jeevan Pramaan

Under the Jeevan Pramaan yojana, technology was harnessed to bring dignity to human lives. Jeevan Praman Patra has simplified life for pensioners by providing hassle-free digital life certificates.

Today, more than 10 crore pensioners are registered, which means they no longer need to visit banks for giving “life certificates” in person.

More than 143 lakh ‘Digital Life Certificates’ have been submitted since November 2024.

UMANG: One platform for all services

UMANG App has been instrumental in converging all government services on one platform. It has become a single digital gateway for accessing more than 2,000 services across various government departments. As per records, there are over 8.21 crore registered users, with over 597 crore transactions.

Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyaan is another scheme with far-reaching implications. It has gone a long way in bridging the digital divide in rural India.

  • MIL-OSI: Bitcoin Solaris Enters Final Presale Phase With $3.8M Raised Ahead of July Launch

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

TALLINN, Estonia, June 12, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — BTC-S sets sights on 2025 wealth creation with dual-consensus architecture, 100K+ TPS, and smart staking rewards With under eight weeks left before its public launch, Bitcoin Solaris (BTC-S) has crossed a major milestone in its presale: over $3.8 million raised and more than 11,000 early adopters onboarded. Priced at $7 in its current phase and scheduled to launch at $20, BTC-S is quickly positioning itself as one of the most anticipated blockchain projects of 2025.

More than just another token, Bitcoin Solaris introduces a next-generation blockchain infrastructure built to scale, incentivize participation, and power real utility. The network is designed around a hybrid consensus model—combining SHA-256 Proof-of-Work (PoW) with Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS)—to deliver both robust security and speed.

We’re creating a high-throughput, inclusive ecosystem where users can earn rewards based on real contribution, not just capital.” said a core developer from the Bitcoin Solaris team.

Key Features Now Live or In Development:

    • Block Times: 15 seconds for fast confirmations
    • Transactions Per Second: Capable of 100,000+
    • Validator Rotation: Every 24 hours to maximize decentralization
    • Energy Use: 99.95% lower than traditional PoW networks
    • Accessibility: Full support for web, desktop, and mobile wallets

Momentum Is Building—And the Numbers Prove It

Bitcoin Solaris is now in Phase 7 of its presale, and the pace is accelerating:

    • Over $3.8 million raised
    • More than 11,000 users joined
    • Current price: $7, next phase: $8, launch: $20

Early Bitcoin Changed Lives—BTC-S Is the Second Chance

How Bitcoin Solaris Will Make People Rich

BTC-S isn’t just for holding—it’s for building wealth through participation.

    • 40% of rewards go to miners on the Base Layer
    • 25% to validators on the Solaris Layer
    • 20% to stakers
    • 10% reserved for development
    • 5% supports the community

Rewards scale with your contribution—factoring in time held, task complexity, and even device capability. The more value you provide, the more the network gives back. It’s built to distribute—not concentrate—wealth.

A Glimpse Into the Road Ahead

Bitcoin Solaris isn’t just a plan—it’s executing on a timeline that’s already underway.

After launching its token and whitepaper in Q2 2025, the project moved quickly into community building and core protocol development. By early 2026, the testnet will go live, validator tools will be deployed, and bridge integration with Solana will be finalized.

The full mainnet rollout is scheduled for Q3 2026, accompanied by exchange listings, governance tools, and major enterprise partnerships. Following that, DApp expansion, a decentralized exchange, and institutional adoption will take center stage heading into 2027 and beyond.

This roadmap isn’t years away—it’s happening now.

Audited, Battle-Tested, and Ready for Growth

All BTC-S smart contracts have been fully audited and passed inspection. You can verify the full audit reports via Cyberscope and Freshcoins. Built in Rust and optimized for scale, these contracts support everything from DeFi and synthetic assets to NFTs, tokenized systems, and cross-chain functionality.

Community conversations are already heating up on Telegram and X, where early adopters are lining up for what could be the most significant wealth-building crypto in years.

The Window Is Narrow. The Potential Is Massive.

Bitcoin’s early millionaires were defined by timing. Now, Bitcoin Solaris offers a similar setup—only this time with faster tech, greater utility, and a presale window that’s still open. If history really does rhyme, 2025 could be remembered as the year BTC-S redefined what it means to be early in crypto.

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) — China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Thursday backed pledges by some automakers to pay their suppliers within 60 days, saying the move would benefit industrial and supply chains.

On Tuesday, 17 leading Chinese automakers, including China FAW Group Co., Ltd., Dongfeng Motor Corporation, Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd., and SERES Group, pledged to make payments to their component suppliers within two months. The IIM noted that due to growing competition in China’s new energy vehicle market, pressure has shifted from automakers to supply chain participants in the auto industry, leading to longer payment terms for suppliers and creating cash flow constraints.

The promises are expected to boost cooperation between automakers and auto parts manufacturers, and greatly promote the healthy and stable development of China’s automobile industry, the IIM said.

The IIM stated its readiness to continue to maintain long-term, stable partnerships between automakers and companies involved in the supply chain, as well as to encourage innovation and coordinated development of all enterprises involved in this area, regardless of their size.

“We will continue to work to enhance the resilience and safety of production and supply chains, and make new contributions to the development of the global automobile industry,” the ministry spokesman said.

China’s new energy automobile industry is now at a critical stage of high-quality development, the official said, calling on all sectors to work together to create a “positive, civilized and orderly environment” for the industry’s development.

In the first five months of this year, sales of new energy vehicles in China rose 44 percent year-on-year to 5.61 million units, accounting for 44 percent of the country’s total new vehicle sales in the same period, according to the latest data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

The data also showed that China’s auto exports in January-May this year rose 7.9 percent year-on-year to 2.49 million units, including 855,000 new energy vehicles, up 64.6 percent year-on-year. -0-

  • MIL-OSI NGOs: Metro Now Costs More Than a Meal for Many! Bengaluru Metro Protest Demands Reversal of Fares

    Source: Greenpeace Statement –

Bengaluru, India. 9th March 2025 – A month after the metro hike on 9th February, commuters and citizens in Bengaluru came together, inside the city’s metro today, calling for an immediate rollback of the recent fare hike. The demonstration highlighted growing public concern over affordable and accessible public transport, urging authorities to take action. Bengaluru Metro ridership dropped 13% overall post fare hike, with a sharp  20% drop in February alone, signalling affordability concerns.

A recent survey conducted by Greenpeace India after the metro fare hike in February 2025, highlights that Bengaluru Metro fare hike has significantly burdened low and middle income groups, students and working professionals as 72.9% of respondents said that their transport costs now exceeds or equal their one-time meal expense. Additionally, women, who depend on public transport more than men, have been disproportionately affected, further limiting their mobility and safety. The fare hike makes daily travel a financial burden for students and working professionals who rely on public transport.

    Key finding of the survey:

    • 40.4% of respondents use the metro as their primary mode of transport.
    • 62.9% rely on Public transport (metro & buses combined)
    • 73.4% spent 50-150 Rs daily on transport.
    • 68% of respondents stated that the fare hike made metro travel expensive.
    • 75.4% cut down on non-essential travel due to rising costs.
    • 38.2% women have reduced their non essential travel due to metro fare hike in Bangalore
    • A majority believe the fare hike is unjust and harms urban mobility.
    • Many commuters demand a rollback of the fare hike to restore affordability.

Click the link to find the detailed survey report.

Greenpeace India urged BMRCL to roll back the Namma Metro fare hike in a letter and called on the government to prioritize affordable, gender-sensitive and disability-friendly public transport over shifting costs onto commuters. The fare hike has led to several changes in the lives of people, with parents looking to shift schools and  people across income groups shifting to other modes of transport.

Bengaluru, already battling severe climate impacts like air pollution and heat waves and is vulnerable to high degree of climate change, needs greater investment in efficient public transit to tackle congestion and build climate resilience. Instead of fare hikes, measures like congestion charges and stricter parking policies can help generate revenue while curbing excessive car use. The car centric infrastructure such as the proposed ₹19,000 crore tunnel project will only offer a temporary fix and divert critical funds from sustainable transport solutions.

Aakiz Farooq, Campaigner, Greenpeace India: “Public transport should serve the people, not profit-driven motives. Bengaluru’s metro fare hike further burdens commuters already struggling with affordability and accessibility. With our cities facing severe environmental crises, investing in affordable and efficient mass transit is essential. There is a need for a dedicated public transport budget and both state and central governments must step up to strengthen the mass transit system.  The Government should  introduce Climate Tickets to incentivise public transport for commuters ”

Individuals with bold protest messages – Un-Fare Hike, Unfair Cities, gathered at Kengeri metro station in the morning, where they boarded a metro train bound for MG Road while carrying placards and banners advocating for fair fares. Their silent yet powerful visual demonstration represented the burden that fare hikes place on ordinary citizens, amplifying the public outcry and reinforcing the need for affordable, accessible, and sustainable urban mobility.

With each fare increase, Bengaluru’s metro—once envisioned as an affordable and inclusive public service—has become a system of exclusion, disproportionately affecting students, IT workers, informal workers, women, and lower-income groups,  office-goers among others. Many commuters are now forced to switch to costlier, more polluting alternatives, increasing road congestion and air pollution. Vehicular pollution ranks as the second largest and a highly consistent source of PM10 and PM2.5 particulate matter. This pollution poses a serious threat to citizen health and is a key driver of climate change.

Irene Ann Kuttichira,  Metro Commuter “As a daily commuter, I feel every fare hike hits hard. Many depend on the metro for work or college, and higher fares make commuting unaffordable and leave us with tough choices. We are demanding a transport system that serves everyone—not just those who can afford to pay more.”

  • MIL-OSI Africa: Young SAPS officer takes policing to new heights

    Source: South Africa News Agency

This Youth Month, the South African Police Service (SAPS) proudly celebrates the dynamic young men and women in uniform, who go above and beyond the call of duty.

Among them is 27-year-old Constable Roycolle Naicker, a trailblazing drone pilot based in Johannesburg District, Gauteng.

Armed with a qualification in Forensic Science and Technology, Naicker is part of a new generation of officers using innovation to fight crime. He joined the SAPS in 2019 at just 21 years old, trading in his previous role in the motor industry as a fitter and turner for a life of public service.

Policing runs in Naicker’s blood. Growing up surrounded by family members in the SAPS and other law enforcement agencies, he was inspired by their dedication and courage. Their example lit a fire in him to serve and protect his country.

Following basic police training, Naicker quickly expanded his skillset. In 2020, he completed Crime Intelligence training, and two years later, earned his licence as a drone pilot. His work now takes him to the skies, providing critical aerial support for operations on the ground.

From capturing high-definition footage during crime prevention missions to collecting evidence that strengthens investigations, Naicker’s drone expertise plays a vital role. These flying tools offer a bird’s eye view that helps officers plan ahead, track suspects, and access hard-to-reach areas.

In search and rescue missions, drones equipped with thermal cameras even allow officers to detect movement in the dark, giving the SAPS a powerful edge.

Drones have revolutionised police operations, allowing them to monitor high risk areas, predict suspects’ movements, and respond faster than ever before.

Although he is passionate about drones, Naicker’s heart remains rooted in his forensic background. He hopes to one day join the SAPS Forensic Division, where he believes his technical skills and drone expertise can further strengthen crime scene investigations.

True to his values, Naicker lives by the principle of doing good even when no one is watching. It’s this quiet integrity that he hopes to pass on to South Africa’s youth.

“You can do anything you put your mind to,” said Naicker to the youth of South Africa. – SAnews.gov.za

Deputy President Paul Mashatile will this afternoon respond to questions for oral reply in the National Assembly.

At Thursday’s session, which will take place at 2pm, the country’s second-in-command will touch on a wide range of issues from agricultural support, water shortages and intensified efforts in the country’s comprehensive HIV and AIDS response.

As Chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on Agriculture and Land Reform, the Deputy President will inform Members of Parliament (MPs) on government efforts towards improving access to funding and resource support for small-scale and smallholder farmers, as well as supporting infrastructure development in rural areas.

Following the withdrawal of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) funding by the United States Government, the Deputy President will reassure MPs that government has the capacity to fund its HIV/AIDS programme.

Bangladesh leader Muhammad Yunus warns plight of Rohingya with ‘no hope’ will lead to ‘explosion’
    News release
    jon.wallace
    11 June 2025

During an event at Chatham House, the Chief Adviser of the interim government discussed the difficulties in supporting Rohingya refugees following USAID withdrawal. He also outlined the challenges in holding new elections.

Professor Muhammad Yunus, leader of Bangladesh’s interim government since the toppling of the Sheikh Hasina regime in 2024, visited Chatham House on 11 June to share his vision for the future of his country’s democracy.

During his conversation with Chatham House Director Bronwen Maddox he discussed the challenges his interim government faces, his desire to tackle corruption through reform and technology, the potential of his country’s enormous youth population, and the aims of his foreign policy.

Bangladesh is host to the world’s largest refugee camp (in Cox’s Bazar), home to Rohingya refugees. Addressing the plight of these refugees, Yunus said the only long-term solution was for them to go home to Myanmar as they could not be integrated into Bangladesh.

‘We are working very hard to make sure that we can repatriate those people to go back. In the meantime, we have problems. The US government stopped all the money, the USAID money suddenly disappeared. And what used to be $12 a month per person for food, suddenly that $12 disappeared.’

He said it went down to $6 and then $3 a month. ‘What do you do with $3 a month for food for a person?’ he added.

Yunus warned of mounting frustration among the younger generation of Rohingya.

‘We have a whole new young generation coming up,’ he said, ‘and they have no hope, they don’t know who they are and what they are supposed to be doing. I said these will be very angry young people growing up. How their anger will be expressed, we don’t know. Whichever way it will be expressed, it will be a big explosion, I can assure you right now. Please help us so that before that explosion point comes, we can take care of them, (so) they are happy with their lives.’

Earlier in the month, Yunus’s government announced that new elections will be held in April 2026. Speaking about the challenges Bangladesh faces in holding new elections, Yunus said he was trying to create a new Bangladesh, reforming institutions and putting on trial figures from the past who, he said, were responsible for killings, disappearances and other political violence. He added that a culture of corruption necessitated a new system.

Professor Yunus also ruled out participating in any new government formed after the election, saying: ‘no way’.

  • MIL-OSI China: Chinese ministry backs carmakers’ payment commitment to suppliers

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Thursday voiced support for a commitment made by multiple carmakers to cap the term of payment for their suppliers at 60 days, saying that the move will benefit industrial and supply chains.

The commitment was recently announced by 17 major Chinese automakers, including China FAW Group Co., Ltd., Dongfeng Motor Corporation, Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd., and SERES Group. According to the MIIT, increasing competition in China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) market is shifting pressure from automakers to other parts of the supply chain, resulting in extended supplier payment terms and cash flow difficulties.

The commitment is expected to boost cooperation between automakers and autoparts manufacturers, and greatly promote the healthy and sustainable development of China’s automotive industry, the MIIT said.

The ministry noted that it will continue to maintain long-term, stable partnerships between carmakers and supply chain companies, and foster innovation and coordinated development among businesses of all sizes.

“We will keep working to strengthen the resilience and security of the industrial and supply chains, and make new contributions to the development of the global automotive industry,” said a ministry official.

China’s NEV industry is at a critical stage for high-quality development, the official said, urging all sectors to work together to create a “positive, civilized and orderly environment” for the industry’s development.

China’s NEV sales surged by 44 percent year on year to 5.61 million units in the first five months of 2025, accounting for 44 percent of total new vehicle sales in the country during the period, according to the latest data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

  • MIL-OSI: Iterate.ai Raises $6.4 Million from Auxier Asset Management and eBags Board Alumni to Accelerate AI Expansion

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

SAN JOSE, Calif. and DENVER, June 12, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Iterate.ai, recently named one of the 20 Hottest AI Software Companies by CRN, has announced $6.4 million in funding led by Auxier Asset Management and with participation from Peter Cobb, Mike Edwards, and Dave Zentmyer. All four are former eBags board members.

Jeff Auxier, founder of Auxier Asset Management, was a longtime board member at eBags, where he worked closely with Iterate.ai CEO Jon Nordmark. He’s joined by other eBags board veterans including Cobb (co-founder of eBags and Designer Brands (DSW) board director), Edwards (a seasoned retail executive and four-time CEO, including at eBags), and Zentmyer, former SVP of Lands’ End. Their collective involvement signals a powerful vote of confidence in Iterate’s AI growth journey as it expands distribution channels and introduces its key productivity solution, Generate Enterprise.

The investors’ decision to collaborate once again with Nordmark and his CDTO/co-founder Brian Sathianathan reflects the strong trust and mutual respect established during their successful tenure together at eBags, which sold $1.65 billion worth of travel products before it was acquired.

Before co-founding Iterate.ai with Sathianathan—who was a six-year member of Apple’s 60-person Secret Products Group that developed the first iPhone and is a patent holder on that groundbreaking product—Nordmark co-founded eBags in 1998 with Cobb. Cobb brings extensive experience scaling successful digital pure-play businesses, co-founding eBags (acquired by Samsonite) and 6pm.com (acquired by Zappos). He has served on the boards of publicly traded companies such as Designer Brands (DSW), and spent a decade as board director for the National Retail Federation and its digital predecessor, Shop.org.

“Iterate.ai’s approach to AI innovation is not only forward-thinking but also pragmatic, ensuring real-world application and success for enterprises,” said Cobb. “Look at how Iterate partnered with Intel to pioneer AI inference processing using CPUs on the Edge.” The company’s method of building technologies recently earned it a spot in Fast Company’s Best Workplaces for Innovators and recognition from the Colorado Technology Association as Colorado’s top technology company.

Edwards is a seasoned CEO and board chairman with over 35 years of leadership experience spanning public and private companies across industries such as digital commerce, consumer-tech AI, and CPG brands. A trusted investor and independent director with SEC financial expertise, he brings a wealth of strategic insight. His leadership roles include CEO of eBags (following Nordmark), as well as Lucy (acquired by VF), Hanna Andersson, and Borders, where he was appointed by Ben Lebow and Bill Ackman. Earlier in his career, Edwards served as EVP at Staples and CompUSA, following his graduation from Drexel University, where he is now a trustee.

“Iterate.ai recognized the transformational opportunity of AI in 2015 when it added the dot AI to its name, and customers like Ulta Beauty and Pampered Chef have been benefiting from Iterate’s cutting-edge technology for years,” said Edwards, strategic investor, Iterate.ai. “This is an incredibly smart team with a clear vision for how businesses can adopt next-gen AI effectively and securely—while outpacing and outmaneuvering competitors with innovative applications. I’m excited to help Iterate write the next chapter in the company’s story.”

Zentmyer—a former SVP of Lands’ End—helped build that company’s revenues from $10 million to a few billion after earning his MBA from Stanford University. “Iterate spent the past 18 months establishing partnerships with hardware providers like NVIDIA, Qualcomm, Intel, and distributors/resellers like TD SYNNEX that will help Iterate architect a rollout at scale,” said Zentmyer. “Building those partnerships is a tremendous feat because each of those Big Tech firms has a significant vetting process.”

With their track records, Auxier, Cobb, Edwards, and Zentmyer are well-positioned to offer valuable guidance and help Iterate.ai refine operational strategies, expand into new channels, and unlock the vast market potential of its patented solutions—further strengthening its presence in key industry verticals.

“This AI PC revolution is underway—analysts project over 100 million AI PCs will ship by 2025—and we’ve meticulously optimized Generate across Intel’s CPUs, GPUs, and NPUs to harness that on-device performance and efficiency,” said Sathianathan. “At the same time, we’re evolving Generate Enterprise into a unified, one-stop platform for agent building with a no-code interface and air-gapped, secure document RAG—complete with built-in vector databases and seamless integration into large-scale enterprise storage environments.”

Iterate.ai offers an AI platform and four distinct AI products, including its newest product, Generate. Generate is an AI Assistant that can run entirely on an AI PC, even without an internet connection.

Iterate’s low-code AI platform, Interplay, empowers traditional enterprises and Big Tech to rapidly build and scale AI solutions. With Interplay, Iterate creates its own innovative products, like Generate. Leading companies, including Ulta Beauty, Circle K, Hughes, FUJIFILM, MUFG, e.l.f. Cosmetics and Pampered Chef, leverage Interplay to enhance operational efficiency, develop custom AI-powered social media managers, implement deep-learning-based OCR, and tackle many other advanced AI initiatives.

“I’ve known each of these leaders for at least twenty years. Each brings a wealth of practical experience and strategic insight to fuel Iterate’s growth,” said Nordmark. “We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Mike, Dave, Peter, and the Auxier group as investors and strategic advisors.”

    About Iterate.ai

Iterate.ai is at the forefront of empowering businesses with state-of-the-art AI solutions, like Generate and its AI low-code platform, Interplay. Interplay is cloud-agnostic and can run AI on the edge and in secure private environments. With seven patents granted (including “drag-and-drop AI”) and nearly a dozen more pending, Iterate.ai’s platform offers corporate innovators a low-risk, systematic way to scale in-house, near-term digital innovation initiatives. (Circular ref. DOR.AML.REC.31/14.01.001/2025-26, dated June 12, 2025 on Updation/ Periodic Updation of KYC– Revised Instructions)

The Master Direction – Know Your Customer (KYC) Direction, 2016 dated February 25, 2016 (as amended from time to time) instructs the Regulated Entities (REs), including banks, that the customers’ KYC Identifier shall be the first reference point for the purpose of establishing an account-based relationship or for verification of identity of customers. Accordingly, while onboarding customer, the REs shall download customers’ KYC records online from CKYCR with customer’s consent without requiring him/ her to submit the same records again, unless there is a change in records available with CKYCR.

The processes of onboarding customer and updation/ periodic updation of KYC have been simplified and the same are given below:

    A. Face-to-face mode for onboarding the customer

    1. Customer may be onboarded in face-to-face mode through Aadhaar biometric based e-KYC authenticating and, in such case, if customer wants to provide a current address, different from the address as per the identity information available in the UIDAI database (i.e., Central Identities Data Repository), he may give a self-declaration to that effect to the RE (ref. paragraph 16 of the Master Direction on KYC).

    2. Further, Digital KYC process is also allowed for customer onboarding.

    B. Non-face-to-face (NFTF) modes for onboarding the customer

    1. Consent-based onboarding of customer in NFTF mode may be done using Aadhaar OTP based e-KYC authentication which is subject to certain conditions (ref. paragraph 17 of the Master Direction on KYC). Further, such account shall be placed under strict monitoring, and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) procedure shall be completed within a year.

    2. Customer onboarding in NFTF mode using digital modes such as KYC Identifier, equivalent e-documents, documents issued through DigiLocker, and non-digital modes such as obtaining copy of OVD certified by additional certifying authorities as allowed for NRIs and PIOs are subject to certain conditions (ref. paragraph 40 of the Master Direction on KYC).

    C. Customer onboarding using Video based Customer Identification Process (V-CIP)

V-CIP is an alternate method of CDD by an authorised official of the RE by undertaking seamless, secure, live, informed and consent based audiovisual interaction with the customer to obtain identification information required for CDD purpose (ref. paragraph 18 of the Master Direction on KYC).

    2. V-CIP is treated on par with face-to-face onboarding.

    D. Simplified process of updation and periodic updation of KYC

    1. Self-declarations – REs are allowed to obtain self-declaration regarding “no change in KYC information” or “a change only in address details” from customers using digital and non-digital modes, through customer’s email / mobile number registered with the RE, ATMs, digital channels (such as online banking / internet banking, mobile application of RE), letter, BCs, etc.

    2. The updation/ periodic updation of KYC records are allowed to be carried out at any branch of the RE with which customer maintains the account.

    3. Aadhaar OTP based e-KYC and V-CIP are permitted for the purpose of updation/ periodic updation of KYC.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar concluded a three-day official visit to Brussels from June 9 to 11, reinforcing India’s deepening ties with both the European Union and Belgium.

In a major boost to India-EU relations, Jaishankar met European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, and co-chaired the first-ever India-EU Strategic Dialogue with EU High Representative and Vice-President Kaja Kallas.

Jaishankar and von der Leyen reaffirmed their commitment to concluding a “balanced, ambitious, and mutually beneficial” Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by the end of 2025, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress of cooperation across sectors such as trade, technology, defence and security, mobility of skilled professionals, and connectivity. They also discussed preparations for the next India-EU Summit, agreeing to hold the next meeting of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) before the summit.

A key highlight of the visit was the Strategic Dialogue held on June 10, where Jaishankar and Kallas held wide-ranging discussions on enhancing collaboration in defence and security, counter-terrorism, maritime security, and cyber issues.

They also reviewed the proposed India-EU Security and Defence Partnership, a Security of Information Agreement, and plans for a comprehensive Space Dialogue.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and global developments. The European Union strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam and reiterated its support for India’s right to defend its citizens.

During his engagements with European Commissioners, Jaishankar discussed key areas of cooperation. He reviewed progress on the FTA negotiations with Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič, explored space and defence industry collaboration with Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevičius, and discussed connectivity initiatives with Commissioner Jozef Sikela.

The visit also saw the signing of an Administrative Arrangement for Trilateral Cooperation in development projects, aimed at leveraging the expertise of both India and the EU to support initiatives in third countries.

Strengthening bilateral ties with Belgium was another major focus of the visit.

Jaishankar met with Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening its close partnership with Belgium across a broad spectrum of areas.

He also held delegation-level talks with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot.

The two sides reviewed ongoing collaborations and explored new opportunities in key sectors including semiconductors, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, trade and investment, and security. Belgium reiterated its solidarity with India in the fight against terrorism.

The visit came on the heels of the EU College of Commissioners’ visit to India and the Belgian Economic Mission to New Delhi, signaling growing momentum in India’s ties with Europe.

According to the MEA, Jaishankar’s Brussels engagements marked “a significant step forward in reinforcing the vision for a future-oriented partnership” with both the EU and Belgium.
