Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-CA-53)

    May 19, 2025

In recognition of today’s deadline for policy recommendations due to the Trump Administration on ways to expand IVF access, Rep. Sara Jacobs (CA-51) penned an op-ed for Fox News, calling on President Trump to support her bicameral legislation to expand TRICARE to cover IVF for service members and military families.

Read Rep. Sara Jacobs’ Op-Ed Here

In part, Rep. Sara Jacobs said:

“Military families need IVF access. They deserve it. And they’ve earned it. That’s why I introduced the “IVF for Military Families Act” alongside Illinois Democrat Senator Tammy Duckworth to require TRICARE to cover infertility diagnosis and treatment, including IVF. Our legislation would cover up to three complete egg retrievals, unlimited embryo transfers, and the necessary medications for IVF and intrauterine insemination (IUI)….

“I’m (obviously) skeptical of Trump’s commitment to expanding IVF access, but he has called himself the “Fertilization President” and the “father of IVF.” If he wants that to be true, he should throw his support behind a demographic that has already sacrificed so much for the safety and security of our country: our military families.”

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Wesley Hunt (Texas 38th District)

    March 25th, 2025

    Contact: Matthew Topolski, Communications Director

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Wesley Hunt is proud to announce that he has joined the Congressional Sneaker Caucus as Co-Chair for the 119th Congress and has set Wednesday, May 21st, as Sneaker Day on Capitol Hill! This bi-partisan effort was created to foster new relationships within Congress and promote interaction between Members of Congress and staff from both sides of the aisle.

The Congressional Sneaker Caucus is partnering with Soles 4 Souls, a well-renowned non-profit, to host a Shoe Drive on Capitol Hill with the goal of donating 50 pairs of sneakers to Americans in need.

Wesley’s passion for fashion, love for Jordans, and attitude toward partnership led him to spearhead this caucus in good faith that Republicans and Democrats can work together this Congress, despite what you may see on TV.

Congressman Hunt will be donating one of his favorite pairs of Air Jordans as a part of this remarkable effort and looks forward to seeing his colleagues’ most stylish pair of sneakers on May 21st!

    Co-Chairs Hunt (R-TX) and Moskowitz (D-FL) Commented:

“I am incredibly excited to serve as a co-chair of the Sneaker Caucus. I grew up in an era where we witnessed the greatest basketball player of all time, and the cultural phenomenon that followed,”said Rep. Hunt. “Michael Jordan represented excellence, elite talent, and the relentless pursuit of greatness—values that inspired an entire generation of Americans. Sneakers have become more than just footwear; they symbolize passion, history, and community. I look forward to championing the intersection of sports and culture to a bipartisan body in Congress on May 21st.  It’s proof that there are still common passions that unite us.”

“I am thrilled to be putting my best foot forward with my new co-chair, Rep. Hunt, as we re-introduce the Congressional Sneaker Caucus for the 119th Congress,” Congressman Moskowitz said. “As Sneaker of the House, I’ve always said that sneakers play such a big role in America’s culture, economy, and fitness. Not only that, but I also believe that bonding over common interests like this one can start conversations that’ll help break down some of the partisanship we see on Capitol Hill. I look forward to my colleagues and their staff joining us as we work together to restore the sole of Congress.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Don Davis Votes to Support Law Enforcement During National Police Week

Source: US Congressman Don Davis (NC-01)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) voted in favor of three bills to enhance public safety and improve law enforcement well-being during National Police Week.

On Wednesday, May 14, Congressman Don Davis voted yes on H.R. 2240, the Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act. Davis, a cosponsor of the legislation, said the bill is a step forward in protecting law enforcement officers. The bill aims to improve how attacks on officers are tracked and reported. It allows more detailed information to be voluntarily shared, such as whether an attack was planned or coordinated. It also directs the U.S. Department of Justice to consider adding “escalatory aggression” to its reports and to review how often officers use available mental health resources.

“Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities, and they deserve our support,” said Congressman Don Davis. “Congress must ensure that these officers have the necessary tools and resources to effectively serve and protect the communities they are sworn to uphold.”

By improving data collection, we can develop more effective strategies to protect those who serve and better address their mental health needs.”

On Thursday, May 15, Congressman Davis voted in favor of H.R. 2243, the LEOSA Reform Act. The bipartisan legislation expands where qualified active and retired law enforcement officers can securely carry firearms to respond during emergencies.

Congressman Davis also voted for H.R. 2255, the Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act of 2025. The bill allows federal law enforcement officers to buy back their retired service weapons at salvage value. Currently, federal agencies are required to destroy these firearms which costs taxpayers money.

“These bills are a step in the right direction,” said Congressman Davis. “They not only protect officers on the job but also honor their service after retirement.”

All three bills now move to the Senate for consideration.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Wilson Post Office Dedicated in Honor of Milton F. Fitch, Sr.

Source: US Congressman Don Davis (NC-01)

WILSON, N.C. – Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) and the United States Postal Service hosted a dedication ceremony Saturday, May 17, at Wilson Community College to rename the Wilson Post Office in honor of Milton F. Fitch Sr., a World War II veteran, community leader and pioneering postal worker whose legacy helped transform eastern North Carolina.

The renaming followed the passage of legislation sponsored by Congressman Don Davis and signed into law by former President Joe Biden on January 2, 2025. H.R. 6750, which secured the support of the entire North Carolina delegation, officially designated the federal facility at 501 Mercer Street Southwest in Wilson as the “Milton F. Fitch, Sr. Post Office Building.”

“Milton F. Fitch, Sr. is a remarkable and key figure in eastern North Carolina’s history. He devoted his life to serving our country and community,” said Congressman Davis. “Renaming this post office honors a letter carrier who broke barriers, inspired others, and left a lasting impact on Wilson and North Carolina.”

Fitch’s history was deeply rooted in service to his country. He served in World War II and played a key role with the Red Ball Express, a massive truck convoy that delivered supplies to Allied troops. After returning home, he became a letter carrier in Wilson with the postal service, paving the way for future generations.

Beyond his postal career, Fitch dedicated his life to advocacy. As lead plaintiff in a lawsuit, he successfully compelled the City of Wilson to pave 23 miles of unpaved roads in African-American neighborhoods.

“This naming of the Wilson Post Office is a recognition of Milton Fitch, Sr.’s service to our country during World War II and his groundbreaking advocacy for civil and voting rights during a very difficult moment of American history,” said former Congressman G.K. Butterfield. “Mr. Fitch was the letter carrier in the Wilson community during my childhood. We all loved and respected him. I extend my deep appreciation to Congressman Don Davis for his commitment to this naming and his stellar work in obtaining unanimous support from the entire North Carolina delegation.”

Fitch also held leadership roles in numerous fraternal and community organizations, including the Prince Hall Masons, where he was elected Most Worshipful Grand Master in North Carolina.

His wife, Cora Whitted Fitch, was also a passionate community leader, a dedicated educator, and was elected to the Board of County Commissioners. Together, they raised five children; Dr. Jerome Fitch, retired NC Superior Court Judge Milton “Toby” Fitch, Jr., the late Attorney Patricia Maria Fitch, Dr. Christine Fitch, and Dr. Ernestine Fitch, M.D., whom followed in their footsteps with careers in public service, education, and healthcare.

“My family and I are very pleased and happy for my father to be recognized in this fashion,” said Milton F. “Toby” Fitch, Jr., son of Milton F. Fitch, Sr., retired NC Superior Court Judge, and former NC State Senator. “Words cannot express it. To us, recognizing him and having an institution such as the main Post Office in Wilson, where my father worked, means so much. We thank Congressman Don Davis for honoring my father this way.”

Milton F. Fitch, Sr. passed on November 2, 1995. The dedication ceremony brought together elected officials, community members, and family to celebrate his life and legacy of service, leadership, and impact that will be forever embedded in the Wilson community.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Kweisi Mfume (MD-07), Congressman Steny H. “Today, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Kash Patel recognized what everyone, including his predecessors, have known for decades: the J. Edgar Hoover building is unsafe, unworthy, and unaccommodating of the FBI’s vital national security and law enforcement mission. We agree with his statement that ‘if you’re going to come work at the premier law enforcement agency in the world, we’re going to give you a building that is commensurate with that.’

“The solution is clear, and the decision to move the headquarters to the site in Greenbelt, Maryland, was final. This site was selected based on a thorough, objective process examining cost, construction timeline, transportation access, community impact, and the FBI’s mission requirements.

“Team Maryland remains committed to providing the world’s premier law enforcement agency with the world’s premier law enforcement facility. If the Trump Administration truly shares that goal, it will work with us to proceed on this project.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Amo Stands Firmly Against the Republican Budget Betrayal

Source: US Congressman Gabe Amo (Rhode Island 1st District)

Today, Congressman Gabe Amo worked to amend the disastrous Republican budget to ensure millionaires contribute their fair share.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today in the House Committee on the Budget, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) voted against on the disastrous Republican reconciliation package that would kick over 13 million people off their health care, gut food assistance for about 11 million people, and steal the dream of higher education from over 4 million Americans to fund tax breaks for billionaires.

Congressman Amo also introduced a motion to amend this budget betrayal to ensure Republicans fulfill President Trump’s request to make those earning more than a million a year pay their fair share in taxes. Due to hardline Republicans seeking greater cuts to vital services and Democrats sticking together, the bill did not advance out of Committee.

“Rhode Islanders know that cutting health care and food assistance for millions of Americans to give the richest few an extra $82,000 a year is a bad deal,” said Congressman Gabe Amo, a Member of the House Committee on the Budget. “Some Republicans, however, think it does not cut enough, making clear once again that cruelty is their north star. Republicans are betraying working Americans to fund giant tax breaks for their billionaire buddies, so I voted against this bill.”

    BACKGROUND

On April 9, 2025, Amo slammed the Republican budget resolution on the House floor and shared the story of a Rhode Islander in the First Congressional District who would be hurt by Republican cuts.
On February 25, 2025, Amo took to the House Floor to slam the Republican budget resolution that threatens devastating cuts to critical programs.
On February 24, 2025, Amo submitted two amendments to the House Committee on Rules to protect SNAP and affirm that Medicaid is a critical program for more than 306,000 Rhode Island residents. The Republican-controlled House Committee on Rules refused to consider Congressman Amo’s amendments.
During the House Budget Committee markup on February 13, 2025, Amo offered two amendments to support protecting and extending Medicare’s solvency as well as protect SNAP, the Community Eligibility Provision, the School Breakfast Program, and the National School Lunch Program. Republicans voted no.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Garbarino, Tenney Reintroduce Local Law Enforcement Protection Act to Protect Qualified Immunity

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Andrew Garbarino (R-NY)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Andrew R. Garbarino (R-NY-02), alongside bill sponsor Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (R-NY-24), announced the reintroduction of the Local Law Enforcement Protection Act to protect qualified immunity for police officers serving at the state and local levels nationwide.

This bill solidifies the precedent set in the Supreme Court case Saucier v. Katz, which ruled that police officers can only be held liable if there is a clear violation of an individual’s constitutional rights. The Local Law Enforcement Protection Act will block federal grants to state and local governments if they deprive police officers of qualified immunity protections.

“Qualified immunity has long protected law enforcement officers from being sued for doing their jobs when acting lawfully in the line of duty. Police protect and serve our communities every day—we have a responsibility to stand with them, not tie their hands. I’m proud to co-lead the Local Law Enforcement Protection Act, which discourages state and local governments from adopting harmful policies that undermine our law enforcement community,” said Rep. Garbarino.

“As assaults on police officers continue to increase and the radical Left’s ‘Defund the Police’ movement gains traction, some local and state-level governments are cutting police budgets and working to strip away qualified immunity. Police officers who put their lives on the line every day should be able to do their jobs without the constant threat of senseless lawsuits. The Local Law Enforcement Protection Act safeguards qualified immunity for these courageous police officers who risk their lives to serve our community. I will continue to stand with our men and women in blue to ensure they are treated like the heroes they are,” said Rep. Tenney.

  • MIL-OSI USA: New Dem Energy & Commerce Members Blast Republicans for Voting to Strip Health Care Coverage from 13.7 Million Americans to Finance Billionaire Tax Breaks

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (Virginia 4th District)

Washington, D.C. Today, New Democrat Coalition Energy & Commerce Committee Members, including Rep. Greg Landsman (OH-01), Rep. Jennifer McClellan (VA-04), Rep. Scott Peters (CA-50), Rep. Lori Trahan (MA-03), Rep. Troy Carter (LA-02), and Rep. Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) issued a joint statement following the Committee’s markup and party-line passage of the Republican reconciliation package:

“The reconciliation package our Republican colleagues just forced through the Committee shocks the conscience. In their effort to give the richest billionaires yet another unearned tax cut, House Republicans are betraying the American people.

“For more than 24 hours, we told the stories of our constituents and laid out the devastating impacts this legislation would have on the American people. We detailed how their Medicaid cuts would rip health care coverage away from a staggering 13.7 million people, including by raising Affordable Care Act premiums to jeopardize coverage for four million Americans. We railed against their efforts to defund reproductive healthcare at Planned Parenthood, raise copays on the lowest-income Americans, and handcuff healthcare providers at nursing homes and community health centers.

“All the while, our Republican colleagues either remained silent or echoed the same lies they’ve been spreading for months to justify their multi-trillion dollar handout to billionaires, financed on the backs of working people.

“The legislation is not inevitable, and the stakes are too high to give in. New Dems will do everything in our power to fight for our constituents, elevating the voices of everyday Americans to speak out against this injustice and blocking this bill at every opportunity.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Salazar Joins Bipartisan Letter to Sec. Rubio Raising Alarm Over Haiti’s Security Crisis

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar’s (FL-27)

strong>Washington, D.C. – This week, Rep. Maria Salazar joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers led by Congressman Rick McCormick (GA-7) in sending a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressing urgent concerns about the escalating security crisis in Haiti.

Recent reports indicate that gangs, including the Viv Ansanm coalition, now control over 85% of Port-au-Prince and are rapidly expanding into previously stable areas.

“Haiti is on the verge of collapse with violent gangs controlling the center of Port-au-Prince just blocks away from the National Palace. It is time for the United States to take a real leadership role in addressing the crisis with hard security solutions capable of stopping the gangs’ advance and restoring peace to Haiti,” said Congresswoman Maria Salazar (Fl-27).

“The United States has an important responsibility to act decisively to mitigate this humanitarian and security crisis in Haiti. We must enhance protective measures for our citizens and humanitarian workers while working with local authorities to restore peace and stability,” said Representative Rich McCormick (GA-07).

“Failure to address Haiti’s gang crisis risks a point of no return. I thank Representative McCormick for working with me in this bipartisan call for action. Our letter urges the administration to present a clear strategy to restore order, hold perpetrators accountable, resume aid, and return Haiti to the Haitian people,” said Representative Gregory Meeks (NY-05).

“Haiti continues to confront a dire political, security, and humanitarian crisis that has caused unimaginable amounts of human suffering. To prevent the situation from deteriorating any further, I am joining my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in calling on the U.S. Department of State to respond immediately. A long-term solution to this crisis means that we must crack down on violent gangs and the elites who fund them, while simultaneously curtailing the flow of illicit firearms,” said Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (FL-20).

“The humanitarian crisis in Haiti is heartbreaking and deeply concerning. As violent gangs threaten civilians, including American missionaries and aid workers, the U.S. must act swiftly to restore order and protect lives. My district is home to the second-largest Haitian American population per capita in the country, and I know how deeply these families are feeling the pain of what’s happening,” said Representative Michael Lawler (NY-17).

“The Haitian people are enduring a vicious cycle of horrific violence at the hands of brutal gangs. The U.S. must urgently support efforts to restore stability, protect women and girls from harm, and uphold human rights. I remain committed to working with bipartisan colleagues to equip Haiti’s security forces to protect civilians—and to cut off the illicit flow of American weapons to the criminal organizations threatening their safety,” said Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-25).

“The deteriorating security situation in Haiti is more urgent now than ever. Just last year I went on two rescue missions to Haiti bringing home 23 Americans and helping relocate 59 disabled Haitian children to safety. While there, I witnessed firsthand the threats faced by Americans, locals, and humanitarian workers, as criminal gangs endanger lives and disrupt vital aid efforts. I stand with my colleagues to urge Secretary Rubio to take a leading role in restoring stability in Haiti,” said Representative Cory Mills (FL-07).

“The heartbreaking reports out of Haiti are a call to action. Families are being driven from their homes, clinics and churches looted, and communities held hostage by violent gangs. With nearly half a million Haitian Americans living in Florida, many with deep ties to loved ones still on the island, the United States should act urgently to protect American citizens and humanitarian workers and support the Haitian people in their fight to reclaim their country from lawlessness and despair,” said Representative Lois Frankel (FL-22).

“The humanitarian crisis and security situation in Haiti is devastating. The State Department must act to enhance protective measures and resources for Americans in Haiti while also coordinating with Haitian authorities and the UN Multinational Security Support Mission to limit the flow of illicit weapons,” said Representative Bill Keating (MA-09).

“The crisis unfolding in Haiti is not just a matter of regional instability—it is a humanitarian catastrophe that demands urgent international response. Gangs now control over 85% of Port-au-Prince, and more than one million people have been displaced, many forced to choose between starvation and submission to armed groups. Haiti’s struggle did not begin with this wave of violence—it is rooted in a long legacy of foreign exploitation, failed interventions, and broken promises following the 2010 earthquake and the assassination of President Moïse in 2021. As a nation with deep historical ties to Haiti, the United States has a moral and strategic obligation to protect innocent lives, support democratic governance, and help dismantle the networks trafficking arms and chaos into the region,” said Representative Jonathan Jackson (IL-01).

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Nick Langworthy Announces $500,000 EPA Grant to Revitalize Communities in Chautauqua County

Source: US Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) today announced that the County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to assess and plan the cleanup of 21 targeted sites in the Cities of Dunkirk and Jamestown.

This federal investment will fund environmental site assessments, cleanup planning, and community engagement efforts at long-abandoned and potentially contaminated properties. Key sites include a vacant waterfront block, a former auto dealership and repair shop, a shuttered manufacturing facility, and a former dry cleaner in Dunkirk. In Jamestown, the focus will include a former landfill and multiple vacant industrial properties.

“I’m proud to announce this $500,000 Brownfields grant that will help clean up blighted and hazardous sites across Dunkirk and Jamestown,” said Congressman Langworthy. “These long-neglected properties have been barriers to investment and job creation for years. With this funding, we can begin transforming these liabilities into engines of economic opportunity—turning eyesores into job sites and pollution into progress. This is a major win for the future of Chautauqua County.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Deluzio, Moore, Cloud Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Invest in American Military Depots

Source: US Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — This week, Congressmembers Chris Deluzio (D-PA-17), Blake Moore (R-UT-01), and Michael Cloud (R-TX-27) introduced the Depot Investment Reform Act to help military depots across the United States respond to rapidly changing national security needs around the world by making federal investments more responsive.

“America’s military needs to be ready and prepared for whatever comes our way,” said Congressman Chris Deluzio. “This is a top priority in my work on the House Armed Services Committee, and I am proud to join my House colleagues and Senators to help improve our military depots and boost our military readiness.”

“I am immensely proud to represent the hardworking civilian engineers and technicians of the Ogden Air Logistics Complex at Hill Air Force Base in Congress. Known as the nation’s fighter depot center of excellence, the outstanding work happening at HAFB to maintain fourth and fifth generation air power generates deterrence against U.S. adversaries, such as China and Russia. I led this bill with Congressman Deluzio, Congressman Cloud, Senator Fetterman, and Senator Cotton to address longstanding investment shortfalls in our nation’s depots, which are required to operate during times when it is not profitable for private industry to do so. This bill ensures that annual DoD investments into our depots are more closely tied to future workload and readiness needs and will help our depots better plan, staff, and manage during emergency situations.” – Congressman Blake Moore.

“The Depot Investment Reform Act is a key step toward advancing America’s military readiness—not just here at home, but around the world. Reforming the investment formula ensures timely support for the men and women who keep our forces sharp, ready, and dominant on the world stage.” – Congressman Michael Cloud.

The Depot Investment Reform Act would improve military depot responsiveness by updating the formula used to determine federal investments in these depots. Currently, funding levels are determined based on the average workload of the previous three fiscal years. The Depot Investment Reform Act would change this formula to consider the workload average of the previous fiscal year, current fiscal year, and estimate for the next fiscal year to determine investments. By allowing future estimates to be included in investment calculations, this change would help military depots respond to rapidly changing needs. During periods of increased revenue, the investment formula set by the Depot Investment Reform Act would likely generate a higher minimum investment than the current formula, allowing the depots to receive adequate funding to meet demand. By considering both past and future workloads, this method may create a more stable investment amount in both times of increasing and decreasing revenue, allowing depots across the nation to plan for the future with confidence.

Military depots are essential to maintaining military readiness by ensuring critical weapons systems are being repaired and returned for use in training and operations. Tobyhanna Army Depot and Letterkenny Army Depot, both located in Pennsylvania, have played essential roles in arming U.S. servicemembers with reliable weapons, technology, and platforms throughout U.S. military history.

Last week, Senators John Fetterman (D-PA) and Tom Cotton (R-AR) introduced a companion bill in the Senate.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Ogles Urges Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees to Investigate Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell for Obstructing ICE Operations

    Source:

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Andy Ogles (TN-05) sent a letter to Chairmen Jim Jordan (OH-40) and Mark Green (TN-7) urging them to investigate the conduct of Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell, who has issued an executive order directing city agencies to track and report all interactions with federal immigration authorities.

“Instead of applauding the heroic efforts of law enforcement for removing violent criminals, drug traffickers, and even a convicted child sex predator from our streets, Nashville’s mayor chose to grandstand—penning an executive order directing city agencies to track and potentially undermine cooperation with ICE,” Congressman Ogles said.

“I want to remind Freddie that complying with federal immigration law is not optional. It is appalling that the mayor is using his office to obstruct lawful enforcement and shield criminals—not just putting neighborhoods at risk, but eroding the rule of law.

Let me be crystal clear: if any city agency in Nashville obstructs federal operations or impedes ICE, I will pursue every tool available in Congress—oversight hearings, funding restrictions, and legislative remedies—to hold them accountable.

Democrats want so badly to turn our growing metro area into a liberal hellscape reminiscent of the West Coast, but I refuse to let them. If they want to California our Tennessee by making it a sanctuary for gangs, predators, and traffickers, I think they should be investigated.

I commend ICE and the Tennessee Highway Patrol for their bravery and professionalism in the face of childish political hostility. I will not stop until every illegal alien is sent home, and Tennessee leaders follow the law,” said Congressman Ogles.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Ezell, Carbajal Introduce Bill to Modernize Coast Guard’s Merchant Mariner Credentialing Exam

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Mike Ezell (Mississippi 4th District)

This week, U.S. Representatives Mike Ezell (R-MS-4) and Salud Carbajal (D-CA-24) introduced H.R. 3331, the Mariner Exam Modernization Act, which directs the U.S. Coast Guard to develop and implement a plan to modernize the Merchant Mariner Credentialing exam, aiming to eliminate redundancies and improve efficiency within 270 days of receiving recommendations from a dedicated working group.

“Our mariners deserve a credentialing system that reflects the realities of today’s maritime industry—not outdated exams and unnecessary hurdles. I’m proud to co-lead the Mariner Modernization Act to bring transparency, accountability, and real-world input to the process. This is about building up America’s maritime workforce and supporting the professionals who keep America’s maritime commerce moving safely and efficiently,” Ezell said.

“The men and women pursuing careers in the maritime industry shouldn’t be held back by an antiquated credentialing system,” Carbajal said. “The Mariner Exam Modernization Act is a commonsense step to ensure our licensing process reflects the skills mariners actually need on the job—eliminating redundancy, updating outdated requirements, and making the path to certification more efficient. This legislation is about strengthening our maritime workforce and ensuring the Coast Guard’s processes keep pace with the needs of the 21st century.”

“USA Maritime supports the effort to modernize the licensing exam for merchant marine officers through the Mariner Exam Modernization Act. The maritime industry continues to evolve and change, but the Coast Guard’s licensing exam hasn’t.  The MarinerExam Modernization Act will remove redundancies, ensure testing isn’t duplicative with other licensing requirements, and align testing with the realities of serving in the 21st century merchant marine. We look forward to working with Congress to pass this bill and remove one more impediment to creating new Merchant Marine officers,” Brian Schoeneman, Chairman, USA Maritime said.

“Transportation Institute supports the Mariner Exam Modernization Act and applauds Congressman Carbajal for his leadership in solving the mariner workforce crisis.  His dedication to the American mariner is remarkable, and we are grateful to have his support as we address this challenge together,” Sara Fuentes, Vice President, Government Affairs, Transportation Institute said.

“The Navy League of the United States has long championed the importance of the American mariner to our national and economic security.  We are proud to support Congressman Carbajal’s Mariner Exam Modernization Act as part of the effort to grow our maritime workforce,” Mike Stevens, Navy League CEO and 13th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy said.

“The Consortium of State Maritime Academies strongly supports the “Mariner Exam Modernization Act”. This legislation will reduce the redundancy between The STCW Code and the National Exam. It will also eliminate the requirement for the Academies to dedicate time in the academic program on subjects that are outdated, and not currently used by professional mariners.  Additionally, it will substantially increase the value of the exam review teams (working groups).  Collectively, these efforts will allow us to assist with the goal of alleviating the current mariner shortage,” G. P. Achenbach, Ed. Rear Admiral, U.S. Maritime Service, President, Consortium of State Maritime Academies said.

The current Coast Guard licensing exam process for Merchant Mariner Credentials is outdated, redundant, and unnecessarily burdensome for aspiring mariners. Candidates must repeatedly demonstrate the same competencies, first through years of hands-on assessments and then again on a seven-part written exam—discouraging new entrants and diverting time from more relevant modern training like cybersecurity.

Additionally, the exam includes obsolete content and lacks a modern review system, leaving graduates underprepared for the realities of today’s maritime industry.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Becca Balint Joins Democrats in Taking Down Cruel Republican Budget

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Becca Balint (VT-AL)

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Becca Balint (VT-AL) and Budget Democrats successfully blocked the Republican Budget that would have slashed Medicaid, food assistance and other critical programs that Americans rely on. The Republican plan cuts over $880 billion in cuts that would decimate Medicaid, risking the health care coverage for over 13.7 million Americans to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and massive corporations. These cuts would put rural hospitals at risk of immediate closure due to these cuts, including many of Vermont’s hospitals.

“Budget Committee Republicans voted down their own bill because it wasn’t extreme enough to deny health care to 13.7 million Americans, they want to take it even further,” said Rep. Balint. “This failure means another opportunity to fight for what Americans need and want: affordable health care and an economy that works for all of us.”

    The Republican Budget included:

    • $7 trillion in deficit-financed tax cuts: $5.5 trillion that Republicans fraudulently claim are free, plus another $1.5 trillion in additional revenue losses
    • $880 billion in cuts that will decimate Medicaid
    • $230 billion in cuts that threaten food assistance
    • $5 trillion debt limit increase (Senate instruction)
    • More than $14 trillion in new debt over the decade

The Treasury Department found that the extension of the 2017 Trump tax cuts would give an average annual tax cut of $32,118 for those in the top 1 percent (family income over approximately $750,000 a year) and an average annual tax cut of $314,266 for those in the top 0.1 percent (making more than $3.5 million a year). Meanwhile, working families will only get a few hundred dollars in tax cuts a year.

    Read her opening remarks here:

“A budget is a reflection of our values, our priorities. What we view as the most important; and who we view as the most important. This Republican reconciliation package is cruel. It makes steep cuts to Medicaid. Millions and millions of people will lose their healthcare because of these cuts. Rural hospitals across this country will close because they won’t be able to make their margins to stay open. Medicaid is that margin.

“My Republican colleagues twice voted on the previous budget framework that made steep cuts to Medicaid. And they said over and over that there were not going to be cuts to Medicaid.

“And yet here we are. My Republican colleagues are making cuts to Medicaid. And millions and millions of people will lose their healthcare.

“But it’s not just a cruel budget. It’s also a cynical one.

“Why? Why do I use the word cynical?  Because these cuts to Medicaid AND the billions of dollars in cuts to food programs are being made to help pay for a massive tax break for the wealthiest in this country. Food and healthcare versus even more money for people who don’t need Medicaid or food assistance. So, yes, I think it’s cruel and I think it’s cynical.

“And get this–despite being lectured repeatedly by Republicans about our country’s deficit, this bill actually adds trillions of dollars to the deficit. I’m serious. Trillions of dollars.

“So people will lose healthcare. Kids and veterans will go hungry. Rural hospitals face closures. And the very rich will get even richer at the expense of our children and grandchildren who will shoulder the burden of the additional debt.

“Americans overwhelmingly do not want cuts to Medicaid or to food programs. 81% And when we see the full impact—when folks realize what’s being done in their name—they will be outraged. Because it’s a betrayal.

“Americans can’t pay their rent right now. Grocery prices are too high. Prescription drug prices are too high. And costs will get higher because of Trump’s stupid tariff regime. And small businesses are really struggling. This is Trump’s economy and it’s rigged against working people.

“This budget is not for working people or the middle class. It’s not for folks living paycheck to paycheck. It’s not for rural communities where health outcomes are the worst.

“Our constituents are struggling. They feel that despite how hard they work, they can’t get ahead.  They’re angry. They want fairness. They want a decent life for themselves and their families.  We need to be their voices in this committee.

“Let’s not add to the struggles of our people back home. They deserve so much better than this. And Americans are fed up with the way that they are being treated.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Jacobs, Meeks Introduce Joint Resolutions of Disapproval for Trump Administration’s Rushed Arms Sales to United Arab Emirates

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-CA-53)

    May 15, 2025

Representatives Sara Jacobs, Ranking Member of the Africa Subcommittee, and Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee today issued the following statement announcing the introduction of Joint Resolutions of Disapproval (JRDs) to block the Trump administration’s recent notification it would advance over $1B in arms sales to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by skirting longstanding practice to subject such sales to Congressional committee review and violating Congress’s constitutional role. In doing so, the Trump administration blew past the hold that Ranking Member Meeks had placed on U.S. arms sales to the UAE – as well as any other country fueling the conflict in Sudan – earlier this year.

PDFs of the JRDs are available here and here.

“The Trump administration’s decision to once again bypass the Congressional review process and notify over one billion dollars in arms sales to the UAE is a clear violation of longstanding, bipartisan process and undermines Congress’s constitutional authority and responsibility in overseeing arms transfers.

“Worse, this comes amid further credible reporting and evidence – both inside and outside the U.S. government – that the UAE continues to provide weapons to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), fueling the conflict in Sudan where more than 150,000 people have died and the RSF is committing genocide.

“The Trump administration’s end-run around Congress is irresponsible and will further embolden the UAE to violate the UN’s Darfur arms embargo and continue its support for the RSF and the killing of innocent civilians. The brutal war between the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces has already displaced nearly 13 million since it began in 2023 and forced 1 million people to the brink of starvation. It must end now.

“The JRDs seek to block certain arms cases the Trump administration notified on May 12 for export to the UAE, despite a Congressional hold. We urge our colleagues to support these JRDs to block these arms sales until the UAE ceases its armed support to the RSF and fueling of its horrific atrocities.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Sessions Introduces the Words Matter Act to Update Outdated Language in U.S. Code

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Pete Sessions (TX-17)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Pete Sessions (TX-17) has introduced the bipartisan H.R. 3420, the Words Matter Act, a bill aimed at modernizing federal language to reflect dignity and respect for individuals with intellectual disabilities. He is joined in this effort by Congressman Mark Pocan (WI-02), Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (DC-AL), and Congressman Richard Hudson (NC-09).

The Words Matter Act replaces more than two dozen instances of the term “mentally retarded” in U.S. Code with contemporary, respectful language. This update reinforces the principle that all individuals deserve to be treated with dignity.

“As the proud father of a young man with Down syndrome, I know firsthand that words matter. My son Alex is an Eagle Scout, a loving uncle, and accomplished young man whose abilities far exceed his disabilities. This legislation ensures that federal law recognizes people like Alex with the God-given dignity they deserve,” said Congressman Sessions.

“This bill just makes sense,” Congressman Pocan said. “Federal law should reflect the time in which we live and not include outdated, harmful slurs. The Words Matter Act will modernize our laws and remove offensive language from the U.S. Code. I thank my colleagues on both sides for supporting this effort and urge its swift passage so we can finally retire this language.”

“Words indisputably matter,” said Congresswoman Norton. “My own daughter Katherine has Down syndrome, and I’m appalled at the thought of anyone referring to her by using the R-word. It is inexcusable that this word is still part of the U.S. Code. Our country must be better than this, which is why I am proud to co-lead this bill with Rep. Sessions, Rep. Pocan and Rep. Hudson.”

“The Words Matter Act is important for our friends, family and children who are uniquely-abled,” said Congressman Hudson. “This bill will ensure they can live their lives equal to their peers without insulting legal language. I’m proud to support this legislation.”

This bill is endorsed by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS), National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD), and the Global Down Syndrome Foundation (GLOBAL).

“NDSS is proud to support the Words Matter Act, a bipartisan effort to ensure that all individuals with disabilities, including those with Down syndrome, are treated with the dignity they deserve,” said Kandi Pickard, President and CEO of the National Down Syndrome Society. “In recent months, we’ve seen a troubling rise in the use of the R-word – a word that dehumanizes and marginalizes people with intellectual disabilities. Outdated, offensive terms like the R word have no place in our society and especially our federal code. We thank Congressman Pete Sessions and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, two champions for the Down syndrome community, for their leadership on this important issue.”

“Words matter. The R-word is hurtful and wrong, and it should never be used to describe people like me,” said Kayla McKeon, Manager of Public Policy at the National Down Syndrome Society and the first registered lobbyist with Down syndrome. “I’m proud to use my voice to support the Words Matter Act so that our federal laws treat all people with disabilities with respect. This bill shows that people with Down syndrome are not invisible. We are strong, capable, and worthy of respect.”

“The Global Down Syndrome Foundation applauds Representatives Sessions, Pocan, Hudson, and Holmes Norton, for reintroducing this important bipartisan legislation to remove derogatory and hurtful language from our federal laws,” said GLOBAL Co-Founder, President, and CEO, Michelle Sie Whitten.  “There has been an increase in the use of demeaning language in society, and I am honored to join our congressional champions in this effort to ensure people with intellectual disabilities are treated with dignity and respect.”

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Jonathan Jackson – Illinois (1st District)

This week, Congressman Jonathan L. Jackson honored the Former U.S. Secretary of Labor Alexis M. Herman.

“My dear friends, we have gathered in this sacred hour not to weep without hope, but to give thanks—profound thanks—for a life that rose like a song from the rough soil of history. A life shaped by struggle, sustained by faith, and sanctified by service. We are here to remember, with grateful hearts, the Honorable Secretary Alexis Herman.

She was a builder of bridges. She laid down tracks not of steel, but of freedom. She walked by her dear friend and my father, Reverend Jesse Jackson, as he lifted high a dream that many thought impossible—that an African American could aspire to be the president of this land. Children of slaves and those of slaveholders might move together toward a more perfect union. Alexis Herman helped hammer the nails and tie the rails.

She understood something deep and necessary: that we could not simply resist the present—we had to build a future together. She walked in boardrooms and marched in communities. She spoke the language of labor and of liberation. She understood that work is sacred, that dignity is not reserved for the wealthy, and that policy must also have a conscience.

So let us not say goodbye, but say fair you well. Fair you well, Secretary Herman. You ran your race. You kept the faith. You believed in us before we believed in ourselves.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Gabe Vasquez Blasts Partisan SNAP Cuts After GOP Advances House Agriculture Reconciliation Bill

Source: US Representative Gabe Vasquez’s (NM-02)

WASHINGTON, D.C.–  Today, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) voted against the House Republicans’ bill that slashes food assistance for working families, veterans, and seniors, and steals revenue from rural grocers and producers. Vasquez condemned it as a cruel and irresponsible attack on working families, small farmers, and rural New Mexico.

“This bill is a direct attack on Americans,” said Vasquez. “It takes food off the plates of New Mexican families while handing tax breaks to billionaires like Elon Musk. We should be working to ensure that no child goes hungry, standing up for American farmers and ranchers, and not pulling the rug out from under hard-working families. This bill fails rural America.”

WATCH: Rep. Gabe Vasquez’s Remarks During House Agriculture Committee

Vasquez condemned the bill’s sweeping cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which are being used to fund massive tax breaks for the wealthy. If enacted, this legislation would cost New Mexican taxpayers over $250 million in 2026 alone and more than $2.4 billion over the next decade, forcing families to choose between groceries, medicine, and rent.

“If you can’t feed a child on $6 a day, don’t you dare pass a law that expects them to,” said Vasquez. “Hungry kids can’t learn. Hungry families can’t thrive. And a hungry nation cannot prosper.”

The reconciliation bill now moves forward solely on party lines. Vasquez vowed to continue fighting for working families, small farmers, and rural New Mexicans who Washington was leaving behind.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Gabe Vasquez Responds to New World Screwworm Crisis

Source: US Representative Gabe Vasquez’s (NM-02)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to growing concern over the spread of New World Screwworm (NWS) in Mexico and its impact on cross-border livestock trade, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) issued a statement today outlining his leadership on the issue and calling on the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to take immediate steps to protect New Mexico’s ranchers and while balancing the interests of New Mexico’s small businesses.

New World Screwworm, a parasitic fly that can cause fatal infestations in livestock, has recently led the USDA to restrict cattle, bison, and horse imports from Mexico. This has shuttered multiple U.S. ports of entry and stalled cattle crossings that border economies rely on. The three agriculture ports in New Mexico are among those affected, including Santa Teresa Port of Entry which is the largest cattle crossing in the U.S., and tens of thousands of cattle that would normally cross into the U.S. remain stranded.

Rep. Gabe Vasquez has proactively recognized the threat the screwworm poses to the agricultural economy:

    • Earlier this year, Vasquez sent a letter to the USDA urging them to address the issue before it escalated further.

    • Vasquez signed onto an appropriations letter supporting funding for a sterile fly facility within the U.S. to strengthen biosecurity and prevent future outbreaks.
    • Most recently, Vasquez introduced bipartisan legislation with Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX-23) and Senators Cornyn and Cruz to combat the NWS outbreak and begin production on a sterile fly facility in the US.

“I’ve been raising the alarm about the New World Screwworm threat because I know what it means for our ranchers, ports, and rural economies,” said Vasquez. “That’s why I introduced this bipartisan bill to fight this outbreak and protect our livestock industry. I was one of the first lawmakers to urge the USDA to take this seriously. Livestock auctions in New Mexico are already feeling the squeeze, and ranchers who depend on cross-border cattle trade are being left in limbo. USDA must be transparent about the timeline for reopening ports of entry, and they need to address the staffing and operational issues that are slowing things down. Our border economies can’t wait.”

Rep. Vasquez continues to work with border community stakeholders, producers, and the USDA to ensure ports of entry can reopen as safely as possible, while supporting long-term investments to keep U.S. livestock herds protected.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – During National Police Week, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02)delivered remarks on the House floor honoring three New Mexico law enforcement officers who are being added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial wall and recognizing the leadership of Las Cruces Police Chief Jeremy Story.

“Every day, across our country and in my home state, law enforcement officers wake up, put on the badge, and commit themselves to protecting our neighbors,” said Vasquez. “It is a calling that demands bravery, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication. This week, we remember those who answered that call and never returned home.”

This year, three fallen New Mexico officers are being recognized on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington:

    • Corrections Officer Roberto Rodriguez, Doña Ana County
    • Patrol Officer Jonah Hernandez, Las Cruces Police Department
    • Patrolman Justin C. Hare, New Mexico State Police

Vasquez also recognized the following fallen officers:

    • Police officer J.R. Stewart, Las Cruces Police Department
    • Police Officer Bianca Quintana, Albuquerque Police Department
    • Police officer Anthony “Tony” Ferguson, Alamogordo Police Department
    • Patrolman James M Sides, Alamogordo Police Department
    • State Police Officer Darian Jarrott, New Mexico State Police Department
    • Sheriff Michael Reeves, Curry County

Rep. Vasquez also called for stronger federal support for active law enforcement officers, emphasizing the need to invest in officer safety, mental health, and family well-being.

In addition, Vasquez recognized Chief Jeremy Story of the Las Cruces Police Department for his exemplary leadership in times of crisis and ongoing dedication to public service.

“Earlier this year, our community faced a horrific mass shooting—an act of senseless violence that shook Las Cruces to its core,” said Vasquez. “Chief Story responded swiftly and with compassion. His leadership was grounded in facts and empathy. He showed up—not just to lead, but to help us begin to heal.”

Chief Story, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and New Mexico State University graduate, was named Citizen of the Year by the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce this May.

“On behalf of all New Mexicans, I thank Chief Jeremy Story for his continued leadership and unwavering commitment to the people of Las Cruces,” said Vasquez.

National Police Week honors law enforcement officers nationwide who have died in the line of duty and recognizes those who continue to serve their communities with bravery and professionalism.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Pfluger, Colleagues Introduce Legislation to Unleash Military on Enemy Drones in U.S.

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11)

WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11), alongside Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06) in the House, and Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR) and Kristen Gillibrand (D-NY) in the Senate, introduced bipartisan, bicameral legislation to unleash the U.S. military on enemy drones within the U.S. The Comprehensive Operations for Unmanned-System Neutralization and Threat Elimination Response (COUNTER) Act would allow more military bases to become a “covered facility” to gain the authority to shoot down unauthorized drones that hover in their airspace.

Read more about this legislation in Fox News here.

“Unauthorized drone activity near and over U.S. military installations has become a persistent and growing national security concern. In the past year alone, there were more than 350 drone detections at 100 different military installations,” said Rep. Pfluger. “This is why I am proud to help lead the bipartisan COUNTER Act, which gives our armed forces the clear authority they need to take down hostile drones and defend our most sensitive installations. As a fighter pilot with hundreds of hours in combat experience, I know firsthand how critical airspace security is — and how urgent this action has become.”

“In recent years, there has been a disturbing increase in threats posed to U.S. military bases by unmanned aircraft systems, including from systems controlled by foreign adversaries. Despite this, our armed forces continue to tell us that they lack the authority to protect the skies over some of our most sensitive military installations,” said Rep. Houlahan. “Today’s introduction of the bipartisan COUNTER Act marks the next step towards delivering the expanded authorities our military needs to address the threats of unmanned aircraft systems and keep these facilities safe.”

“Leaving American military facilities vulnerable to drone incursions puts our service members, the general public, and our national security at risk. Our bill will expand the Department of Defense’s authority to neutralize unauthorized drones,” said Senator Cotton.

“As commercial drones become more commonplace, we must ensure that they are not being used to share sensitive information with our adversaries, to conduct attacks against our service members, or otherwise pose a threat to our national security. This legislation will enable DoD to more effectively mitigate threats from drones and allow for better interagency cooperation to keep Americans safe. I am proud to be introducing this important piece of bipartisan legislation, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to get it passed,” said Senator Gillibrand.

Source: US Representative Nick LaLota (NY-01)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Nick LaLota (NY-01) a steadfast advocate for Law Enforcement and a proud son and grandson of Nassau County and NYPD Officers, voted to pass the Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act, the LEOSA Reform Act, and the Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act of 2025. These three critical pieces of legislation increase data collection to help prevent Officer injuries and suicides, permit qualified Officers to carry concealed firearms nationwide, and allow retired Officers the option to purchase their service weapons.

“As a committed advocate for public safety and our men and women in blue, I proudly voted for three bipartisan bills that support those who wear—and have worn—the badge: the Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act, the LEOSA Reform Act, and the Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act of 2025,” said LaLota. “These commonsense measures enhance officer safety, cut needless red tape, and honor their service. Better data helps prevent tragedy by shaping smarter policy. Expanding carry rights ensures officers can respond to threats wherever they arise. And giving retired officers the chance to keep their service weapons is a meaningful way to recognize a lifetime of dedication to public safety.”

    Background:

The Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act directs the Department of Justice to report on targeted attacks against Law Enforcement Officers, the feasibility of tracking those attacks through existing crime reporting systems, and the mental health resources currently available to support Officers.

The LEOSA Reform Act allows qualified active and retired Law Enforcement Officers to carry concealed firearms across state lines.

The Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act of 2025 allows current federal Law Enforcement Officers in good standing to purchase a retired service weapon at market value from a federal agency.

Congressman LaLota has been a steadfast advocate for Law Enforcement, supporting legislation to increase funding for officer training, mental health resources, and advanced equipment. He has also championed initiatives aimed at combating gang violence and enhancing coordination between federal, state, and local Law Enforcement agencies. Additionally, Congressman LaLota has worked to secure grants that provide the Suffolk County Police Department with the tools necessary to address the growing challenges they face.

In January 2025, LaLota signed on to co-sponsor H.R. 31 – the POLICE Act of 2025, which would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to designate the assault of a Law Enforcement Officer as a deportable offense.

In January 2024, LaLota introduced theCOPS on the Beat Grant Program Reauthorization and Parity Act of 2024, a bipartisan bill aimed at reauthorizing and enhancing the COPS on the Beat Grants Program. This legislation seeks to support local Law Enforcement in hiring new Officers and improving community policing and training efforts.

In both the 118th and 119th Congress, LaLota co-sponsored the Protect and Serve Act, which protects Law Enforcement Officers by increasing penalties for those who target them.

In January 2023, LaLota co-sponsored and introduced the Back the Blue Act, which enhances penalties for those who seek to harm Law Enforcement Officers.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Pat Fallon (TX-04), along with Rep. Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) introduced the Federal Cyber Workforce Training Act of 2025, a bill which would require the National Cyber Director to submit to Congress a plan to establish an institute within the Federal Government to serve as a centralized resource and training center for Federal cyber workforce development.

“This legislation modernizes our approach to building a robust cyber workforce by streamlining onboarding with hands-on, role-specific training and sets high standards via DHS and DOD collaboration,” said Rep. Fallon. “By fostering sustainable career paths and bolstering recruitment with specialized talent management modules, we are taking necessary steps to fortify our defenses against escalating cyber threats.”

“The cyber threats against our nation are serious. This bipartisan legislation will help us to mount a defense against malign actors by bolstering, and enhancing cyber training,” said Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09). “This bipartisan legislation developed with Congressman Fallon seeks to modernize cyber workforce development through streamlined onboarding training — raising the bar for the Departments of Homeland Security and Defense. Our objective is to develop a framework to foster the highest levels of excellence in cybersecurity for professionals serving on the frontlines to safeguard our nation.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Gabe Vasquez Reintroduces Humane Accountability Act with Support from New Mexico Advocates

Source: US Representative Gabe Vasquez’s (NM-02)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On May 15, 2025, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) announced the re-introduction of the Humane Accountability Act alongside key New Mexican groups including El CENTRO de Igualdad y Derechos, NM Comunidades en Acción y de Fe, Center for Civic Policy, and New Mexico Immigration Law Center.

WATCH: VASQUEZ UNVEILS BILL TO HOLD DHS ACCOUNTABLE

“Today, I’m proud to announce the updated Humane Accountability Act because due process, transparency, and accountability are not optional in a democracy,” said Vasquez. “This bill is about making sure that every person is treated humanely, that Congress is informed, and that our constitutional values are upheld no matter who’s in power.”

The bill, which was previously introduced in the 118th Congress, has been updated to address new immigration enforcement concerns. U.S. Representatives Nikki Budzinski (D-IL-13) and Juan Vargas (D-CA-52) have co-sponsored the legislation.

“Every single person in this country has the right to due process and should be treated with dignity and humanity. That includes migrants in detention centers. As Trump continues to ramp up his attacks on immigrants and the rule of law, it’s on all of us to stand up for our constitutional rights and this nation’s values,” said Rep. Juan Vargas. “We need the Humane Accountability Act to help increase oversight, hold immigration detention centers accountable, and protect due process for all.”

“Reforming our broken immigration system while securing our borders has long been one of my top priorities,” said Rep. Nikki Budzinski. “But the Trump administration’s recent actions, including the unlawful detention of U.S. Citizens, has proven that Congress must strengthen oversight and demand greater transparency from ICE. The Humane Accountability Act seek to do just that—establishing clear accountability measures to ensure detainees are treated fairly and humanely, and that the administration is following the rule of law.”

The legislation includes three key provisions:

    • Transparency on Detention and Removal: DHS would be required to provide Congress with specific data on all encounters, detentions, and removals that have occurred since January, including the legal authority for removals and any transfers to detention centers located outside the territorial U.S.
    • Oversight of Detention Conditions: The bill mandates comprehensive reporting on abuses, deaths, injuries, lack of legal access, enforcement in sensitive locations, and the whereabouts of individuals in custody.
    • Notification for Non-Traditional Detention Sites: DHS would be required to notify Congress before using any non-traditional site, such as military installations, Tribal lands, or locations outside the territorial lands, for immigrant detention.

Multiple key organizations in New Mexico have endorsed the bill.

“My parents fled a war-torn nation to the United States, knowing that they would be guaranteed freedom and constitutional rights. Now, our community is facing dire threats as they are being detained without due process, not receiving proper notification or information in their own languages, and potentially being sent to countries they have never lived in. As the daughter of Vietnamese refugees, the Humane Accountability Act speaks to the needs of transparency and language access as required by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. Representative Gabe Vasquez’s leadership on this issue is crucial, as it shines a light on the darkest corners of our immigration system and demands accountability from those in power.” Lan Sena, MHA Policy Director, Center for Civic Policy

“As the Trump administration pursues its terrifying vision of mass deportation—including the removal of essential workers who haven’t been convicted of any crime, sometimes to countries where they aren’t even citizens—and even considers suspending habeas corpus, the constitutional right to challenge unlawful detention, it is more urgent than ever to pass the Humane Accountability Act,” said Fabiola Landeros, immigrants’ rights organizer with El CENTRO de Igualdad y Derechos. “This legislation would strengthen oversight, ensure due process, and mandate humane conditions in detention centers. These are New Mexico values—values our country should aspire and fight to uphold, no matter our political affiliation.”

“The Humane Accountability Act is a bold step toward shining a light on unchecked abuses and bringing transparency and oversight to the Department of Homeland Security — whose agencies ICE and CBP have blatantly violated the due process and human rights of immigrants, asylum seekers and even U.S. citizens — including a citizen from New Mexico,” said NM Comunidades en Acción y de Fe. “We applaud Rep. Vasquez for defending the civil liberties of our people and for demanding that our federal government follows the Constitution and the rule of law. This bill, if passed, would expose the deplorable conditions in New Mexico’s private immigrant detention centers and help prevent unlawful deportations of immigrants like Kilmar Obrego Garcia. It’s not just necessary — it’s the moral imperative.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Ogles Urges FBI, Secret Service to Investigate James Comey

    Source:

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Andy Ogles formally demanded that the United States Secret Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation launch a criminal investigation into former FBI Director James Comey, whose recent social media post has raised credible and disturbing concerns about incitement to violence against the 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump.

The letter—sent to Secret Service Director Sean Curran, FBI Director Kash Patel, and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino—calls Comey’s May 15th Instagram post “a coded suggestion to ‘eliminate 47’—that is, assassinate the President.” The post featured a staged photograph of seashells arranged in the numbers “86 47”—a phrase widely understood to mean “kill 47.”

The letter urges both agencies to investigate potential violations of federal law, including 18 U.S.C. § 871 (threats against the President) and 18 U.S.C. § 875 (interstate threats), and demands confirmation of whether Comey still retains any access to classified material or security clearances.

This isn’t just bad judgment—it’s a veiled threat from a former FBI Director who knows exactly what he’s doing,” said Congressman Ogles. If a right-winger posted this against a leftist, all hell would break loose. But because it’s James Comey—the man who weaponized the FBI against President Trump—the left is silent. That’s unacceptableThe Left invented the term ‘stochastic terrorism’ to go after conservatives anytime they voiced a strong opinion.

Now they need to live by their own standard. If James Comey thinks he’s above the law, it’s time to prove him wrong. The radical Left will stop at nothing to silence, imprison, or now apparently even threaten President Trump. It’s time for perp walks. If Comey broke the law, he shouldn’t get a pass. He should be in handcuffs,” Congressman Ogles said.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Feenstra Supports Legislation Requiring Reports about Violent Attacks on Police and Law Enforcement Officers

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Randy Feenstra (IA-04)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) voted for, and the U.S. House of Representatives passed, legislation requiring the U.S. Attorney General to furnish reports on violent attacks against police and law enforcement officers.

“Criminals who deliberately attack police and law enforcement officers must be punished and held accountable for their actions. Our society must have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to assaulting police and law enforcement. One way that we can help protect the men and women who protect our communities is by gathering information on attacks against law enforcement,” said Rep. Feenstra. “It’s why I voted for legislation requiring the U.S. Attorney General to provide reports to Congress and the American people about violent attacks against police and law enforcement officers. By fully understanding the facts, we can better defend law enforcement from vicious criminals and threats to their lives.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Mann Votes to Strengthen Farm Safety Net, Reform SNAP

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Tracey Mann (Kansas, 1)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) voted to advance the House Agriculture Committee’s budget reconciliation proposal that cuts $295 billion in wasteful and fraudulent spending and makes long-overdue investments for the nation’s farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers. Rep. Mann released the following statement after the markup.

“America’s farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers have been clear—they are struggling, and are in need of some degree of certainty,” said Rep. Mann. “After some Congressional Democrats held a Farm Bill hostage last Congress, House Agriculture Committee Republicans delivered to address some of the agriculture community’s most pressing needs. We made much-needed investments into rural America that protect the livelihoods of our farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers, and our nation’s food supply.

“Our proposal also strengthens the safety net for America’s most vulnerable communities by uprooting fraudulent spending and making commonsense changes that ensure the SNAP program can serve those it was intended to. The proposal gets able-bodied adults back on the ladder of opportunity, giving them a fair shot at the American dream, all while ensuring that the program is a bridge to a better life instead of a permanent destination. With seven million open jobs across the country, it’s time to get America back to work.

“I’m grateful we were able to move this proposal forward, and I look forward to seeing how our work lifts Americans out of poverty and provides certainty to America’s agriculture community.”

The House Agriculture Committee’s budget reconciliation proposal:

    • Invests $60 billion in strengthening the farm safety net by expanding crop insurance and updating reference prices
    • Bolsters trade promotion to correct the agricultural trade deficit left by the Biden Administration
    • Provides funds to address the deferred maintenance backlog at land-grants like Kansas State University
    • Invests in livestock biosecurity to fend off growing threats like New World Screwworm
    • Closes loopholes in the law that allow states to waive enforcement of work requirements
    • Enacts accountability measures to encourage states to administer the SNAP program efficiently and effectively
    • Ensures that work capable adults without children too young for school are working or volunteering in order to receive benefits

Ahead of the House Agriculture Committee markup, Rep. Mann applauded the committee’s portion of the bill and its investments to strengthen the farm economy. In May 2024, Rep. Mann voted to advance the Farm, Food, and National Security out of committee. Rep. Mann has continuously expressed his frustration with Congressional Democrats’ efforts to hold the agricultural community hostage to political games instead of passing a Farm Bill.

The House Agriculture Committee’s budget reconciliation proposal will now go to the House Budget Committee for further consideration.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Barry Moore introduces legislation to protect Alabama producers from feral hogs

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Barry Moore

Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Barry Moore (AL-01) introduced the Feral Swine Eradication Act, the bicameral Feral Swine Eradication Act. This legislation extends the Feral Swine Eradication and Control Pilot Program (FSCP). Feral swine are consistently detrimental to farmer’s, rancher’s and forester’s operations, raking in $1.5 billion in damages every year. The FSCP has seen a great deal of success in reducing these damages through trapping, removing and monitoring and assessing the lands on which feral swine frequently reside. Texas Senator John Cornyn introduced the Senate reauthorization legislation of this program.

“Feral swine have caused millions of dollars in damage on agricultural operations across Alabama and can undo years of hard work on Alabama’s farms, ranches and forests toward feeding our country,” said Moore. “I am standing with Alabama farmers to take action against this threat by authorizing an eradication pilot program with proven results, with changes to make it even more effective.”

“All across Texas, farmers are struggling to save their fields from invasive species that are destroying their crops and threatening other livestock on their land. This in turn has meant our constiuents have had to pay hirer food prices at the grocery stores.  I am grateful to be working with my fellow Texan, Congresswoman De La Cruz on this important issue and look forward to seeing this get across the finish line.” said Crockett.
